*received for free from netgalley for honest review* pretty cute kids book, the art is different and the story is pretty cute as well
One of the cutest, most well illustrated children's book ever!
Actually the artwork is dreamy. It reminds me of actual fairytales and childhood memories.
The story is what the title says. It happens in a day when Benny decided to have a haircut at a salon nearby taking along her dog which got a haircut as well!
This storybook has all the good vibes and such a quick fun read.
Thank you, author and the publisher for the book.
I love how Benny has a mustache! Benny is a dog whose owner needs a haircut, so they go to the hair salon and wait for her haircut. Sam sees everything in the salon and thinks it is all so cool. Benny's mustache in the end is hilarious.
I received a copy of this ARC from NetGalley for an honest review. I loved this book about Benny the dog wanting a hair cut just like his owner.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Benny wants a hair cut is a cute children's story about a girl and her dog Benny who visit the hair salon for a hair cut. During her hair cut Benny the dog starts to create a fuss and the hairdresser deduced that Benny is wanting his hair cut too. Benny gets his hair cut and they leave the salon feeling and looking great together.
This is a great book to reassure children that there is nothing to be afraid of when they are going to get their hair cut especially for the first time, and children will love looking at all the things they may see at the salon too.
This was a fun story about getting a haircut.
It was an easy read and fun but I can only see it being read once or twice as it is very short but the illustrations are lovely and really help being the story to life.
It is 3 stars from me for this one
Cute and simple book with good illustrations and storyline to make the point that you should not be afraid to get a hair cut
Cute book with nice illustrations about why kids shouldn't be scared to get a haircut. I wish it gave more examples of why you shouldn't be scared - seemed the only statement made was that getting hairs cut didn't hurt. It was a cute touch that the dog also got his haircut too after Sam.
Sam looks in the mirror one morning and confides in her beloved dog Benny that she really needs a haircut because she can hardly see. She leashes her dog and off they go to the local hair salon, Chez Pierre.
Pierre greets her and assures her that he can give her a cut and directs her ( and Benny ) to a seat where they wait their turn to be called. He offers her a magazine to read while she waits but Sam doesn't need it... there's way too much interesting activity going on around her. Customers are getting snipped, curlers are projecting out from underneath helmet-shaped hair dryers and others are patiently waiting for their cut and style.
When it's Sam's turn and she is caped and sitting in the chair Benny begins to bark and cause havoc. Pierre suggests that Benny is not scared as to what is happening to Sam but Benny wants his hair cut too. Do you think Pierre is correct?
Kids reading the book discover the sights and sounds connected to a busy hair salon. The illustrations are very well done. They are whimsical and full of expression and fun. Kids will experience through this delightful book exactly what a trip to get a haircut in a salon will entail. I really like the book and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Vive la coupe de cheveux!
This was an adorable story about a girl and her dog, Benny. She needs a haircut and takes Benny with her to the salon. Soon, after watching, Benny also wants a haircut! This would be a great book for teaching kids about their first haircut experience and a salon. Illustrations were adorable. Sweet, easy, quick read.
I received an electronic ARC from Clavis Publishing through NetGalley.
Sam needs a haircut and Benny accompanies her to the salon. The dog acts up and they decide to give Benny a haircut too. Both head for home with new hairstyles and feeling accomplished.
The text was small and the story was fairly obvious. It's a very short book and the story was okay but not one that will stay with a reader. The message that it's okay to try things and do things is there but muddled.
I loved the old school vibes of the illustrations in this book. I don't have anything more to say about this book aside from that, though.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for granting me access to this title in exchange for an honest review.
Benny Wants a Haircut (or Benny at the Hairdresser as it seems to be titled on some listings) is a cute story about Sam, her dog Benny, and their trip to the hairdresser. The illustration style reminds me of 1990s cartoons and the story seems like it should be suitably interesting for kindergarten and primary grade age kids. I can definitely see my sister using this in her K/1 class. My three-year-old, on the other hand, was not interested in my read-through, which tells me it's beyond toddler/preschooler level.
Minor note about the inside cover doodle pattern: the hairdryers don't look like hairdryers when flipping past those cover pages quickly. Children shouldn't see anything wrong with it, it's fine, but adults rest assured it's not what it looks like in your peripheral vision.
Overall it's a cute story. The title gives it all away, but the age this is aimed at probably won't mind.
I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from Judith Koppens and Clavis Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is my second Benny book and it was just as cute as the first. I love the relationship Benny and Sam have, you can tell they really love each other and want to do everything together. I love Benny's haircut at the end and the fact that Sam's hair looks exactly the same.
Very short, but cute story of a little girl who needs a hair cut and goes to get one with her dog- who also wants to be groomed! Illustrations were sweet!

Cute story, cute illustrations. Title pretty much says all that happens in the book.
Loved both the book and the illustrations. It has a story to tell and it does it in a very easy and straightforward way. It takes an everyday life fact creatively turned into a story that keeps the children interested. Recommended for pre-school and first grade children.
This is a really sweet story of a girl going to get her haircut and her how her dog Benny reacts at being at the hairdresser.
The art and colours within the book were super engaging and cohesive..
Various literary devices used throughout would be effective in keeping children attention such as the use of repetition and onomatopoeia.
Overall it is an adorable story perfect for kids who love animals.
Benny accompanies Sam to the salon. While there he decides he also wants a haircut. There wasn't much more to the story than that. The title just gives away the entire story. If there were a different title, then we could have been surprised as to why benny was trying to get attention at the salon.
I do find this creator hit and miss. My previous Benny book was something about the girl and her dog and whether the dog could have swimming lessons. D'uh. This is the girl and the dog and a hairdresser, who might well end up giving the mutt a trim – especially if it kicks off in the salon, that is. The previous book was majorly flawed as it didn't seem to obey by its own rules (a poolside girl in outdoor gear worried about her pooch being in the right bathing clothes; ignorance of the fact dogs can, like, swim etc) – this is flawed by the fact it's not entertaining. It's a book that claims to be a drama of a girl at the hairdressers, but it clearly is using her experience – and that of the mutt – to show that such experiences are OK and might actually be beneficial and fun. That's a lesson any parent worth their salt could get across, and this didn't seem at all a fun way to address that earth-shattering issue. Two stars is being very generous. Now, do you want wax with that?
