I really like the concept of this book and taking Pride and Prejudice but make it mystery. It definitely has Stalking Jack the Ripper vibes.

Do I ever not like a Pride and Prejudice adaptation? This time, Lizzie Bennet wants to be lawyer in her father’s firm, but to do so, she must find a case to take on. The Lizzie in this adaptation is headstrong and smart. She felt like a mix of Jo March and Lizzie Bennet in the best possible way. Price managed to create an adapation that could have still lived in the Austen universe and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

I am a sucker for any Pride and Prejudice retelling, so I had to pick this one up when I saw it was available! The book had such a great plot and the CHARACTERS! I will definitely be looking into this authors other books!

Elizabeth Bennet, who was 17 y/0 works inconspicuously at their legal service firm, Longbourn. As with the original, Mr Collins, a solicitor, is the heir of the firm and the head is Mr Bennet, a barrister. Since this was in the 19th century, a lot oif restrictions were placed on females and lots of propriety standards were followed. As with the original, Lizzy doesn't want to conform. She wants to be part of the legal team officially. His father gave her a challenge. To win this challenge, she found case to solve. This was a murder case involving the Bingley's and Mr. Darcy. There were other characters in the story that played significant roles as she tries to uncover the truth.

This was a very well written mystery , with good show of some tactics/strategies. Enjoyed the banter between Mr Darcy and Lizzy. Though there is a happy ending, there was not much romance. (I wonder if there is a sequel to this book, esp ODC are young and are just starting). i would really like to have sequels to this.

I highly recommend this book.

I was given an advance readers copy and am leaving a voluntary review. I have this in digital and audiobook formats)

I LOVED THIS Book! Pride + Prejudice with a feminine and murder mystery twist! I enjoyed listening to every minute of this! The characters are compelling, the story keeps you guessing to the end. Where will all of your favorite characters land in this stunning retelling?

A classic novel with a fantastic whodunit twist. I couldn't ask for a more fun story.

I'm a fan of adaptations of classic stories and Pride and Premeditation is no exception.

Lizzie is an aspiring lawyer at Mr. Bennet's firm. She is challenged to prove herself so she decides to solve a local murder in order to save the accused. You get your classic Darcy/Lizzie banter, the loveable Bingley, and, of course, the single sighted Mrs. Bennett. I love the twist on these memorable characters Tirzah Price has given us. The murder mystery keeps you on your toes as you try to figure who the perpetrator could be.

This is a premise that shouldn't work: Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, rewritten as a young adult murder mystery, in which Lizzie Bennet investigates the death of a gentleman in an attempt to clear Mr. Bingley's name and convince her father to let her practice law. The transposing of the classic novel into a murder mystery worked surprisingly well, but I was never quite able to suspend my disbelief when Lizzie genuinely believed her father might give her a job in his law firm. This was also my first attempt at an audio review copy, and I found the artificially generated narrator to be less bothersome than I anticipated.

Phenomenal.

This book had me from the first sentence. The way it re-imagined Pride and Prejudice was masterful. Same wit, same social commentary, same wonderful characters, but with enough of a twist that I was pulled through the book, eager for more.

Elizabeth Bennet wants to work in her fathers law firm, not just as an unrecognized clerk, but as a solicitor and someday a barrister. When a young Mr. Bingley is accused of murder, she is given the chance to prove herself. From there she take the case through its twists and turns, uncovering a mystery that is more twisted then anyone thought possible.

I was so immersed in the world that the plot twist got me, even though it was obvious once I thought about it for a second. I was swept away with Elizabeth as she and Darcy attempt to clear Mr. Bingley's name.

Although I love Pride and Prejudice and have read many adaptations this one missed the mark. It just did not hit the witty plot points like the original. I did not enjoy the character reimagines either. There we a lack of surprise for the who-done-it factor as a fan of P & P.

This was an interesting read. I actually didn't expect to enjoy it but I was indeed hooked with the story. The entire story was a good retelling of Pride and Prejudice with the characters that we already love but with a feminist perspective. I like the fact that it sticks to some of the same perspectives and ideas as Jane Austen. It was a refreshing read. Nevertheless I don´t think it will be memorable to the readers since it also felt kind of flat in the story.

I have never really been a fan of Pride and Prejudice. I've seen multiple versions of the movie and loved them, but I have never made it through the book. And unfortunately I didn’t make it through this one either. I really tried, but I just didn’t care. I like the premise. Elizabeth Bennett wants to be a lawyer and practice with her dad, but she is a lady and lady’s done work. Mystery abound, but it’s not entertaining enough to the reader/listerner (as I was reading an audiobook) to care enough to finish the story.

A beautiful twist on a classic tale. Lizzie wants to become an associate at her fathers law firm and is determined to prove herself. She partners with Darcy to discover who murdered one of his friends. As more and more information comes to light Lizzie is challenged to use her womanly wit and to put everything together to find the murderer. She is also able to unravel a whole organization of piracy!

A fun rendition!

4/5
What a great new twist on this my favorite classic Austen novel. I love a good murder mystery and I love Pride and Prejudice so it was a foregone conclusion that I would love this book if it were well written. I listened to an audiobook version (not the final audiobook) of this book and it was fantastic. All our favorite characters come back in new and interesting roles. The Bennett’s and the Darcy’s are actually two family law firms. Elizabeth is determined to inherit her father’s and gain a place there over the stupid and incomplete Mr. Collins. To do so, she must prove herself to her father by finding and handling a case. The next case to come in is the murder of Mr. Hurst, and the accused is none other than Mr. Bingley. Elizabeth pursues the case only to discover that Mr. Darcy is his solicitor, but she doesn’t let that stop her from investigating the crime! It’s a wild wild ride to unravel the mystery, and it was loads of fun! And I say this having listened to a robotic voice read it out in near monotone. Just imagine how good the actual text and final audiobook will be?!? I highly recommend this book and look forward to any future continuations or adaptations of other classics! I have a feeling Persuasion will be next...

Not at all what I expected. Our bored characters are totally reworked here so it is a new experience. Add in a murder mystery and its a whole new adventure. Fun read and looking forward to more in the series

Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Teen for sending me this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I loved Pride and Premeditation so much! My first 5 star of the year. It was such a fun twist on the classic story of Pride and Prejudice. I loved the murder mystery. I’m not one to usually pick up a YA mystery thriller, but it was well done in my opinion and quite satisfying if you are familiar with the original story.

The writing was easy to follow and witty which I loved. I really love the way Price wrote Elizabeth as such a strong woman seeking to do with her life what she wanted. I loved to see her be a fierce woman in this time period. (Although she does mention at the end how it wouldn’t be until 1922 that women actually would become solicitors.)

I love how Price incorporated some of the original lines from P&P, but then twisted them to be a little more modern. So much fun.

I truly appreciate how the author kept the essence of each character the same as the original. I recently read a retelling/reimagining that was nothing like the original and it really annoyed me. The personalities are largely the same in this one.

The relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth was so wonderful. I love a good “hate to love” (was this the original?) and this one did it justice in my opinion.

Overall, it was fantastic and just a delight to read.

3.5/5 - Pride and Premeditation really won me over by the end of the book. I love a good Pride and Prejudice retelling and I tend to always enjoy them. And like most P&P retellings, I had issues with Lizzy when the book started out. Retellings tend to make Lizzy a slightly more extreme version of original Lizzy. Since Lizzy is one of my all-time favorite characters in books I feel like she needs to win me over. And by the end of Pride and Premeditation, this Lizzy had won me over.

I really loved Lizzy's ambition in this retelling. I believe the time-period is around the same time-period as the original book and this Lizzy really just wants to be an attorney and is trying to prove herself to her father so he will hire her for a job at his firm (and of course Collins is there and is just as sucky as every version of him I've ever encountered). She's not afraid to go the extra mile to uncover evidence and to prove that her client is innocent. Lizzy is such a smart strong-willed character, I love it.

This is geared toward a more YA audience and I can imagine that audience really really loving this book (and eventual series) so much. I know I'm going to be looking forward to book two in this series.

*Thank you NetGalley and HarperTeen for the eARC of Pride and Premeditation in exchange for an honest review.

Ok I actually liked this one! It was totally different and I'm glad it still took place in early 1800's and its just Jane Austen's world of P&P reimagined with a murder mystery. It took me awhile to get into the murder mystery and Lizzie wanting to become a solicitor for her father's company. I'm just really into different variations of P&P lately. It was sort of interested and well thought out what Tirzah did with this book. Cover is cute.

I received this VOICE GALLEY at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 this audiobook this past weekend, and I can’t stop thinking about it!⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Most of the 𝘗𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘦 & 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘫𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘦 stories/retellings I’ve read tend to follow events after the classic, but this is a complete retelling of 𝗪𝐇𝐎𝐃𝐔𝐍𝐈𝐓 proportions.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
I have never been so invested in trying to figure out a mystery; granted, I suppose that isn’t really saying much when I don’t often indulge in the genre. 😅 There are a handful of characters from 𝘗&𝘗 that I just 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 to 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦, so obviously I was hoping for one of those outcomes. But of course, my lips are sealed. I will say that I was genuinely surprised by how it all turned out.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 really captures the characters very well while also making them very unique to this new and fresh story. When I tell you that I was never bored and popped in my earbuds to listen every chance I could, I am not exaggerating 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵.⁣⁣

This book started off great. I listened to the audiobook and I really enjoyed the update. I liked the law firm setting, but the ending was ridiculous. Mr. Wickham and Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine de Bourgh are not likable characters in the original book, but they would never behave this way. Mr. Collins, in particular, is not evil. He's just obsequious and Lady Catherine de Bourgh believes completely in the ranking of the peerage system in England, but she's not a criminal mastermind. This book is a character assassination against both Mr. Collins and Lady Catherine and clearly doesn't understand the original book or the nuances of various characters well at all.

The ending was quite disappointing and unfortunate after such an auspicious start.

What fun this was!
As an avid lover of all things Pride and Prejudice I was intrigued when I came across this book. P&P with a murder mystery? Sounds delightful! I also LOVE the title (and the titles for the next 2 books as well!).

I listened to a synthetic voice galley so I'm only reviewing this based on the story itself but I have to admit, I wasn't bothered by the synthetic voice. Surprising considering I tend to be quite picky when it comes to audiobooks.

In Pride and Premeditation Elizabeth Bennet is an aspiring lawyer at her fathers firm Longbourn & Sons while Fitzwilliam Darcy is the heir to the prestigious firm Pemberley Associates. When a scandalous murder shocks high society Lizzie takes on the task of solving it in an effort to prove to her father once and for all that she has what it takes to be a lawyer. Complications arise when she discovers that Mr. Darcy is the lawyer currently working the case and he is none too happy with her interference.

I loved the interactions between Lizzie and Mr Darcy and I appreciate that Tirzah Price managed to stay true to the characters while still adding her own twists. The last thing on Lizzie's mind is marriage, Collins is still a weasel and Mr. Darcy is just as infuriating - and lovable - as always.

Pride and Premeditation is a fresh take on a beloved classic and I can't wait to read the next installments in the Jane Austin Muder Mystery series!
