The Good Neighbour is high in creep factor. A true to form thriller! I read this in one sitting while I was home alone and found myself checking the locks on the doors. The early chapters had me on the edge of my seat. The writing style is fast paced and smooth. I really enjoyed when the story went back in time to show us more of Martin and the things that he was doing. I didn’t love the character development for Leah. At times, I wanted to shake some sense into her. RJ Parker makes up for it with pages packed with nail biting drama. I recommend this for anyone who loves a fast paced thriller.

Psychological thriller with uninspiring characters and a twisted storyline.Obvious early on who was responsible but there were lots of twists to keep it going.

oh my !
Leah Talbot, working woman, unhappily married, childless and out on the road late at night hits a deer. Can't drive the car and cell not having a signal, she goes knocking at a neighbors door in order to call for a wrecker.
Charming and calm, Martin Tate answers the door and helps her by calling a tow truck and police ....a bit more happens during that time, but I won't spoil it for you..
Next morning, Leah drops by neighbors to bring a bottle of wine as a kind of thank you....and finds out the owner of the house has been murdered and it is a woman!!! Not Mr. Tate. Seems Mr. Tate is the killer.....
He has also decided to fixate on Leah to be his partner....
There are a couple of places in the book where I wanted to call bullshit.....a bit too convenient and incredible to be credible...but it all wraps up pretty nice in the end and it does twist and turn.
Overall I would give it a B+

Leah Talbot is only minutes away from home when she hits a deer and is forced to abandon her vehicle at the side of the road. The conditions are awful, so she walks to the nearest house for help, clearly in shock, and is allowed to use the telephone and await the vehicle recovery services in the kind strangers home.

Martin Tate does everything he can to make Leah feel at ease, and despite her fear she feels a magnetic pull towards him. But that could be because it's valentine's night, she can't get hold of her husband, has no idea where he is in fact, and this stranger is being kinder to her than anyone has been in years.

When Leah returns the next day to gift a bottle of wine to her neighbour, he has gone and instead the police are on the doorstep wanting to know why she is at the house of a murdered woman.

Martin Tate is nowhere to be seen.

Leah is understandably shocked, and more than a little confused as she explains the previous nights events to the police. They tell her not to worry, that they will look after her, and her husband, whilst they attempt to find Tate, their prime suspect.

Leah is pacified by this, until she gets a phone call from Tate, and then the real 'fun' begins ....

The Good Neighbour is an addictive read, that will keep you hooked until the end.

The Good Neighbour is a creepy thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat. I've never read anything quite like this novel, and I couldn't wait to see how it would end (and the ending was great). I'm definitely going to check out more of R.J. Parker's books...thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for giving me the opportunity to read The Good Neighbor and helping me discover an amazing new-to-me author. : )

Quite interesting, I read this in one sitting as it gripped me early on.
Fast paced and intriguing.
I felt little sympathy for the main character though, the storyline itself kept me interested but she was annoying personally.
I'm definitely interested in reading another book by R J Parker

This book successfully gave me the full anxiety feelings that started from the beginning. The cat-mouse chase of mystery, fast paced, fun and creative plot.

One night Leah Talbott was driving and hit a deer, and her car stuck on a ditch. She then looked for help in a house nearby from where she left the car. Martin Tate opened the door for her. He appeared as a handsome guy, charming, and constantly offered her his help dealing with her ditch car by making phone calls. After she left and arrived at her house, she decided to stop by at Martin’s the next day, just to want to say thank you for her help. But to her surprise, there was a woman being murdered at Martin’s house, and turned out he’s not the owner of that house!

I liked the premise, endless creepy sensation, seriously I had anxiety all the time. However, when I was looking for any logical reason on every character on why they’re making such “a not smart” decisions throughout the story, I could not find it, and that makes me a little bit disappointed. I was hoping Leah will develop herself to be more smart, and brave, but she fall “flat”

Thank you to One More Chapter, HarperCollins UK for the digital copy of this book through NetGalley.

A good read, although at times a bit far fetched with some of the choices the character decided. However, it nevertheless kept me wanting to read more.

The book centers around Leah. Leah is driving home one night when she hits a deer in the road and luck behold, her cell phone is dead. She walks to the closest house to get help and is greeted by Martin. Martin helps call a tow truck and while waiting manages to sneak in a kiss. Leah scurries away and spends all night thinking about her actions. The next day, Leah decides to go back to thank Martin for helping her the night before only to learn that Martin is not the homeowner at all and a murder occurred at the house about the same time that she arrived the night before..

This is a fast pace book. The author does a great job of weaving in what happened before Leah's arrival to help us build background information. I wasn't a huge fan of Leah's marriage subplot being included.

A psychological thriller that will have you questioning what you know, who you know, and what was that noise behind you? Parker used the finest details to weave this story together and when you think it’s all tied up with a bow, you’ll have to think again. Great chiller for those dark nights that’ll keep you on your toes.

Leah is driving home late at night. She hits a dear leaving the dear dead and her car damaged. Her mobile is not charged. She spots a nearby house with a light on. She is greeted by Martin Tate a handsome stranger. He helps her calling the AA out.. This is the beginning of a blood filled nightmare as it becomes clear Tate is a deranged murderer. Absolutely brilliant thriller.

I really enjoyed this title.

A lady goes to the first house she finds after a car crash, leading to terrible consequences.

I thought it was more frightening as it was something that could actually happen. I did feel that the story regarding her sister was rushed and brushed over and could have been explored a bit deeper and there was A LOT of detail at the end describing every single movement which was frustrating. But, it was well written, suspenseful and a good read.

Loved the book…such a well written fast paced thriller. You never know people around you…and who you can trust! Had a hard time putting this down…worth reading. Great characterization and plot development. Kept me on the edge and turning page after page.

Leah runs a deer over , her car is wrecked and her phone has no battery.
So she walks to a nearby house .
A man answers the door and lets her use the phone.
Next day she returns to say thank you but the police are at the house with the house owner murdered and it’s a woman.
Leah knows that Martin the man who answered the door is the murderer and could he now come after her.
A gripping book.
Thanks NetGalley

This is a niche domestic suspense with a breathtaking beginning. Martin helps Leah after her road accident, but Martin is not who he seems. The story is a rollercoaster ride of mayhem and murder where Leah constantly puts herself in danger to follow Martin's demands. The ethos is chilling, but the murder's killing spree is reminiscent of a horror film and defies belief. The writing style makes good use of sensory imagery to immerse the reader into the story.

I received a copy of this book from One More Chapter in return for an honest review.

This book was a conundrum. On one hand, the story hooked me from page one and kept me engaged until the end. On the other hand, the heroine was a complete moron, and the ending felt like the author just tired of writing the story. I mean, we couldn't get at least a couple chapters of them dealing with the police??!! 🤷

A neighbour is a person living next door to or very near to the speaker or person referred to.

This book was sooooo good I've literally read it in one sitting. Fast paced from start to finish, gripping, edge of your seat stuff. It's the first book I've read by this author & I'm hunting down his other works as we speak. This was fantastic & in my top 5 of the best reads this year!
A riveting roller-coaster ride of a psychological thriller.

When Leah has a car accident & hits a deer, she turns to the nearest house to see if she can use their telephone. Charming Martin Tate allows her in. She decides to say thankyou to him for his hospitality the next day, but when she arrives at his home the door is answered by the Police; the sole 'female' resident of the house has been murdered, so who is Martin Tate & what does he want with Leah? 😱

Many thanks to Netgalley for my ARC in return for my honest review.
