Following Candace Cameron Bure on IG is to follow an actor, dancer, mom, cook, athlete, clothing designer and author. I love Bure's writing style for her adult books and her children's books will not disappoint. Candace's playful puppy has numerous lessons embedded in a short, engaging read. My daughters and I have read over and over. It is sure to end the night with a smile.
This book is way too long. I find this is just another example of an actress being given a book deal for name recognition. The author even uses her own name as the character's name. If that was the case why not say this happened when I was younger, etc. I think it needs a better editor or a better ghost writer.
This wonderful book teaches kids that while having a puppy is tons of fun, it is also a lot of responsibility and hard work. Owning a pet requires commitment, patience, and dedication, which Candace Cameron Bure writes about in an educational and entertaining way. This is a great book to read before a family gets a new fur-ever friend. It will lay out what to expect in a positive way. The illustrations are adorable and keep an eye out for pet hamster Harry throughout the
Such an adorable story! With kids everywhere wanting to get a pet, it’s nice to read one where the responsibilities are front and center. I like how Candace reads a book for help and refers to it often so kids don’t get the idea that they have to know everything about pets beforehand. Only there is one thing that needs to be pointed out. About halfway through book, there’s a little girl holding hard to her umbrella. No words or explanation as to why she’s there. Believe me, kids will ask. My only other thing to bring up is I was so engrossed in the story that I was sad when it ended. If you made it a little longer, I promise I won’t mind.
I received an advanced reader copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was a cute story about the trials and tribulations of getting a puppy and then training it. Candace and her mom went to the shelter to adopt a dog. Candace wants a cute puppy instead and names him Freckles. Her mother agrees, but lets Candace know that she will need to train her new pup. Candace gets a book from the shelter and reads it carefully to begin her training sessions. All does not go well and Candace realizes that it is not going to be easy or quick to train Freckles. This is a story about patience, perseverance, love and consistency. This is a great book to read before a family gets a new furrever friend. It is especially important when deciding on a puppy to know what you are in for and what it will take to train him or her. The illustrations were cute and added to the story. My granddaughter enjoyed this story, but listened intently rather than reacting to it. We talked about dogs and puppies after reading this one and she liked her big dog that already knew what to do when he came to live with them. She said her daddy would be able to train a puppy. A cute book for those interested in getting a puppy or dog.
Thank you Zonderkidz-Books and NetGalley for the advance digital reading copy of this book.
I love that this book teaches kids that getting a puppy (or pet) is not all fun and games and there are a lot of responsibilities when you get a new pet. This book would make a great gift for anyone with children that is contemplating adopting a pet. This books talks about all the aspects of owning a new pet including the not-so-fun ones.
Cute story about taking care of a rescue puppy and all that it takes to train and take care of a pet. The story and illustrations are easy to follow. Both of my daughters enjoyed this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.
Candace's Playful Puppy is an adorable book about taking responsibility and not giving up even when it; hard.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Zonderkidz Books for my copy of Candace's Playful Puppy by Candace Cameron Bure. It publishes January 26, 2021.
This was a fun book to read to three children in my life who recently got a new puppy! I think it reminded them that having a new puppy takes hard work and dedication. They loved the illustrations and wanted to know what happening throughout the story.
If you have kids in your life who have a new puppy, this would make a great welcome home gift for them!
It is a big responsibility to care for a pet. You can't give up and training can take a very long time but the rewards are great! Candace is excited about having a puppy of her very own and to be best the mommy dog ever. She picks out her dog at the pound and quickly learns the hard work in taking care of a dog. She also learns it takes prayer!
The illustrations are playful and will bring laughs and wonder to your little one. If you don't have a dog in the family, you probably will be hit up for one after this read.
A special thank you to Zonderkidz and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review
A cute picture book that is perfect for young readers learning dedication, faith, and responsibility.
I read this with my younger sister at bedtime and she enjoyed it, which I was not surprised since my sister is starting to take more care of our family dog and is so sweet and loyal to our pets.
This is a wonderful, pink, and good bedtime read for little girls.
I voluntarily received and reviewed a complimentary e/copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this little picture book. It taught about responsibility and taking ownership of choices even when they are not easy. I also enjoyed that the child didn't not turn into some kind of petulant tantrum throwing bad example at any point in the story. She simply accepted that there was something difficult to do and acknowledged the problem and worked through it.
Candace’s Playful Puppy is a warm-hearted children’s book that teaches children responsibility and determination to reach their goals. Candace, the main character, is a little girl who learns that being a pet owner is difficult yet rewarding. This book is a perfect learning tool for children who are begging for a pet of their own.
I do appreciate a tender moment when the main character prays to God asking Him for help. This shows that even when we work hard, we still need to rely on God first for His help.
The illustrations are simply adorable, and the writing will keep the young readers attention. I highly recommend this adorable story.

Candace's wish is finally coming true. Her mother is allowing her to adopt her very own dog. They collect and buy all the necessities that will be needed for the new family member then it's off to the pet shelter to choose. Candace encounters a sweet, energetic puppy that she adores and brings him home. She names him Freckles and she settles in to become his new caretaker/mommy.
Candace learns quickly that this is going to be a very hard job, one she must stay committed to because the bouncy little guy would rather play, explore and get into mischief rather than listen to her commands and obey the house rules. He howls at night because he doesn't like to sleep in his special crate, he makes big soapy messes when she tries to bath him, and he even chews up her training book, just to name a few.
She finds her patience oftentimes runs thin and she wants to give up but she doesn't. She remains determined and consults the puppy training manual to help her raise her little ball of energy.
One rainy morning Candace takes Freckles out for a walk. In his enthusiasm he dashes off from her dragging his leash behind him. Oh my! Frantically she searches everywhere to find him but he is nowhere to be found. Will she succeed and bring him safely back home where the sweet little guy belongs?
This wonderful book teaches kids: how to be faithful to their commitments, to never give up when faced with tough situations, and to have patience - which takes a lot of practice and hard work. The illustrations are extremely well done. I love the colour pallet and the emotions that are portrayed. Kids can keep a look out for Freddie, Candace's pet hamster, throughout the pages which is a fun element to check out. The message of the book is positive ( adopt a pet from a shelter ) and inspiring ( you can parent a puppy too). If you enjoy Candace's Playful Puppy you may also like Candace Center Stage and Grow, Candace, Grow. I highly recommend this book.
Candace Cameron Bure is a favorite of mine and I love that she is now writing picture books. This is a cute story about the responsibilities of a owning a pet.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Super cute story! I loved the illustrations, the little hamster sidekick and the diverse characters that were included. The message, being faithful and persisting, is important and I think it's easy for kids to understand and relate to.
This was a cute book that could help teach children about responsibility and caring for others. It was a little bit longer than I thought it needed to be, but it was a fun and sweet story o overall.
Candace is so excited to get a puppy and be the best dog mom ever. Little freckles, however, is very wild and playful. Candace struggles with training and feels like she isn't great at being a dog mom. For starters, this book is just fun and great for entertainment purposes on its own. Its also a good book to teach kids just how hard puppies are to handle. Its hard as an adult to take care of puppies, but Candace never gives up.
I am so glad this is a book about adopting a dog instead of buying one. Candace's mom says that they can get a dog, so they go shopping for supplies before they stop at the animal shelter to pick out a dog. This is a wonderful story about a dog picking its human and just knowing which dog is the right one for you. I especially love that this book points out that owning a dog isn't always fun and that training is hard work.
This is a cute story. Lots of colorful and detailed pictures. Would be a great book to purchase and read with a child before they get a new pet. The message is about how things may be hard, like training a new puppy, bug you always need to keep trying and never give up. Super cute story!
