Chalk up another great book for prolific writer Danielle Steel.

After sustaining a devastating and very public betrayal coupled with a tragic loss, 63 year old Meredith White submerged herself in her grief and became a recluse for fourteen years. This world-famous actress and film icon lives in a mansion/fortress in the exclusive neighborhood of Pacific Heights in San Francisco with a couple who serve as caretakers of the estate. Meredith’s sedate and predictable lifestyle of seclusion come to an abrupt halt when an 8.2 earthquake strikes on sultry evening. Literally and figuratively shaken out of her complacency, she invites her neighbors, who are virtual strangers to her, to share her home for several weeks while their respective houses are being repaired.

Steel does a credible job of weaving together multiple storylines into a cohesive and compelling read. The neighbors include an abusive orthopedic surgeon, his wife and two children; a tech entrepreneur and his underappreciated girlfriend; and an elderly, blind, renowned pianist with his budding novelist caregiver. The book also explores the backstory of Meredith’s estranged family and her dependency upon the rather sketchy caretaker couple. As the story unfolds, we are given the opportunity to see someone “come back to life” through her caring for others and taking a risk on a romantic relationship.

As with most Steel novels, I was immediately engaged with the story from the first page. I enjoyed the characters and felt emotionally connected with them – their fears, their caring, their gratitude, their outrage. The author explores a wide variety of relationship issues with the diversity of characters in age, ambition and accomplishments. This was a very entertaining read that couldn’t put down.

My thanks to the author, Random House Publishing Delacorte Press and NetGalley for providing the opportunity to review an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review

Five stars.

When an earthquake hits a San Diego neighborhood, a group of neighbors becomes a group of friends. A recluse movie star's home becomes the place where neighbors come together for a place to stay but find so much more: friendship, safety, and perhaps even love.

Thank you Net Galley for an ARC of Danielle Steel's new release Neighbors. This book is about an older movie star, Meredith, her life, her tragedies and her redemption. Beautiful story through and through. Loved it!

I liked getting to know all of the characters and their backstories in the first half of this book. Everyone being thrown together because of the earthquake was a great premise. The second half of the book was a bit disappointing though, as far as follow through for all of the character's storylines goes. I wanted more. Everything became very predictable. Overall this wasn't a great read, just ok.

Thank you to NetGalley and Delacorte Press for access to this ARC.

It has been a long time since I have read a Danielle Steel book. After reading Neighbors I am wondering how many wonderful books I have missed out on? This book is great. The storyline and characters draw you in almost from the beginning and hold you until the end. I laughed and cried and wished I was part of this book. During this crazy time the theme of "Love thy neighbor" is needed more than anything.

For Meredith White, a reclusive Hollywood Legend when she does the unpredictable, her life and the people she meets coumpletely changes. Although this book is a bit predictable, I found I couldn’t put it down. Pure enjoyment.

Former Icon Meredith locked herself away from the world after her husband cheated on her with Silvana, meredith then blamed the death of her beloved son on her exhusband as he was only 14 when he asked his father to go sailing and ended up dying in a pop up storm. Meredith is also estranged from her daughter so she relies on her hired hands Debbie and Jack. The couple has worked for Meredith for years and live in her guesthouse. Meredith White believes her Debbie are friends, But do Debbie and Jack really have Merediths best interest at heart? When a devastating Earthquake hits Meredith decides its time to open the gates and let her neighbors stay with her until they can get their own homes fixed and taken care of. As we continue to learn about the neighbors we are met with many diverse characters including Peter who stops by to check on the house and make sure that everything is stable. In doing so he meets Meredith and they start a budding romance?

I found the part about the neighbors and their stories most interesting after that the book got kind of monotonus and repetitive. It felt like some of the story lines were shorter than others and like some parts didnt fit very well. I was hoping to love this As it was my first Danielle Steel book alas that did not happen but i will try other books by Ms.Steele

A earthquake that cracked open not only splinters structures, but splinters the emotions of life for a small group of people who didn’t even realize that this quake actually saved them!

This is the Old Danielle Steele book writing because it is truly remarkable in depth insight and emotional! The characters jump off the pages to you because you feel with them and you can identify with what they are struggling with overcoming. The author has done a majestic level of writing that the pages seem to turn themselves as you keep reading.

The characters are believable and the storyline is just phenomenal!
I would buy this book and recommend this book!
If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

Meredith White had a star studded life before tradgedy changed everything. Living a reclusive life she was going through the motions of "a life". An earthquake changes everything, her views on life, family and friends. A wonderful read .

Really enjoyed this one from Danielle Steel. her books are always such easy books to read, usually in one sitting. A movie star recluse who stays hidden mansion, she basically had gave up on life, then the earthquake came and everything changed for her. loved how she let all her neighbors stay with her even though she did not know them at all and from that she learned to live and love again. she finally did what she needed to do to have peace within herself and got an entirely knew family again.. Loved this one! #NEIGHBORS

There's a reason that Danielle Steel has been my favorite author since I was a young girl. Her books grab your attention. Whether they be based in modern day, during historical events or have a touch of creative imagination, they never fail to entertain.
In this story we meet Meredith, a reclusive former Hollywood star. Back-to-back tragedy has had her life in limbo for many years. An earthquake really "shakes" up her life in more than the literal sense. Bringing many new friends and adventures.
I recommend grabbing a copy and joining this eclectic group of misfits on their journey to becoming a family. You won't be disappointed.
Once again, kudos Ms. Steel.
Thank you Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.

As the book opens, we meet Meredith, a popular actress who has gone through some very hard struggles in her personal life. She has become a bit of a hermit in her home and relies on her help, Debbie & Jack, in all aspects of her life. However, we find that Debbie & Jack do not always have good intentions in their help and work.

A huge earthquake hits and Meredith finally goes outside of her gates to meet her neighbors and then welcome them in to her house. Debbie & Jack are appalled and threatened, but the neighbors all have interesting backgrounds and stories themselves. A man named Peter eventually stops by the house to check on everyone, and a romance begins between him and Meredith. We continue to learn more about him and all of the neighbors as they move on after the earthquake.

Overall, this story felt a bit clunky. Some story lines were shorter than I expected and the overall direction of the book didn't flow as I expected it.

Disasters can have a transformative effect on people, either positive or negative. Meredith was a major movie star many years ago and withdrew from the world after losing people close to her. She went into a deep depression and the only relationships she had were with her two live in estate managers who were husband and wife. She trusted them to handle everything for her. But was she too trusting? She lived for many years this way until a disaster made her reach out to those in her neighborhood to help out. This is a story of how reaching out to others and helping them in time of need can be a wonderful transforming experience. Relationships grow between the neighbors as they all have difficulties they are dealing with. I enjoyed reading about how the neighbors grew closer and really changed each other lives for the better. It was a heartwarming story that I really enjoyed.
