Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
I so wanted to like this book. I even gave it a second chance after DNFing it awhile ago. However, it just fell short for me. The plot was hard to follow and I couldn't find myself connecting with the characters. Sadly, this was a low rating for me.
British romance just hits different. If you enjoy Beth O Leary then Laura Jane Williams is a great author to read next.
I thought I would like this one, but I didn't realize there would be cheating. Also Lizzo? Really? Just too much of a leap for me.
OK so anytime I see a book with a similar cover I know it is something I am going to pick up.
I was not disappointed with this book. Fans of The Flip Side would love this book.
I requested this book years ago, and am no longer interested in reading. Thank you for the opportunity.
Penny has a lot of life choices to make. This was one book I just could it get into. It was well written, just not for me. This isn’t to say it wouldn’t be for others.
Was not able to read the entirety of the book and cannot give an accurate or overall rating/review . As a librarian for a big library system, we most likely have a copy of this item. I will look forward to reading it in future since I am sure I will.
This started off and I immediately knew that it wasn't for me. It sounded like such a cute concept that I'm sure other people will enjoy it, but it's not for me.
I read several Laura Jane Williams books around the same time and this was definitely my least favorite! I felt very frustrated by how long it took the main character to figure her situation out. Lots of lack of communication and just plain poor decision making. I found myself rooting for any ending just so I could be DONE with the book!
Penny has not had much luck in love. So when a handsome man walks into her café and sparks start to fly she is skeptical to say the least. A blissful few weeks fly by and then Penny meets another man...and then another. Once single and lonely, Penny is now faced with the impossible decision of who she should choose to spend her time with but the thought of choosing wrong is crippling to say the least. But will circumstances make the decision for her after all? Based on the description of this book and the whimsical cover you would think this would be a light-hearted rom com, right? Well, you'd be wrong. On the surface that's exactly what it is but just under that frosting of romance are so many trigger warnings for readers that you would need to shovel them all out. Infidelity, abandonment, cancer diagnosis, infertility, loss of a parent...the list goes on. (Also a random appearance by Lizzo is just the cherry on top of this SMH story.) Clearly there are people out there that enjoy this based on it's 3.5 star rating on some book sites but this was a miss for me. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
If you want a typical rom-com that just makes you enjoy yourself, this is a book for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the way their lives interwove, I laughed out loud numerous times, and really enjoyed the ending.
This started so strongly and then just meandered. I had a hard time sympathizing with Penny to the point where I debated giving up halfway through. Just ok.
This was a great book and really tells how life can be extremely complicated when you're given multiple choices and can only choose one.
The concept was cute and I thought I would enjoy it more but I got a little lost with all the switches between characters. It may have been more an issue with formatting the book than anything else and the downloaded version I had. Distracted to much to keep me pushing through.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
I thought this book started out strong but more than a few times I found myself lost. The point of view felt like it was jumping around, the ebook didn't have chapters or sections clearly marked and there were details that felt like they went no where. I felt like there were some details and sections that could have been omitted while others should have been expanded! A lot of the side characters seemed to be undeveloped. Parts of this book were entertaining but Penny really was a mean character who treated people very badly.
This is a quick read that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside! If you're looking for a fun rom-com, laugh-out-loud beach read, look no further! Another winner from Laura Jane Williams!
Just a sweet, feel good, juicy & romantic book that's an easy and quick read! I really enjoyed it and would recommend.
I didn’t enjoy this read. Mostly because I take issue with it being delineated as a romantic comedy when the protagonist is still dealing with the aftermath of cancer at an early age. Other than that, it just took far too long to establish the stakes, especially considering how perfect for Penny one of the love interests obviously was. I put this book down many times in frustration and did not want to pick it back up.
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
