This book looked like it was going to be a fun new take on vampire romance. Unfortunately, it repackaged the same old tropes in conventions in a new setting. Neither of the MC's were very likable and I actively did not care if they got an HEA. The heroine is supposed to be this smart doctor but she made some really stupid decisions all for the sake of being "independant". The most offensive peice of this book, though, was the writing. There was a lot of Tell and no Show. A good editor should have pointed this out as a major failing in the writing. Readers connect when they can immerse themselves in the story, but when you tell them everything they need to know it's like getting read the ingredients list of a recipe. It's imformative but not very entertaining.
Bane’s Choice is the first book in Alyssa Day’s brand-new series, Vampire Motorcycle Club and naturally as a huge fan of her Warriors of Poseidon, indulging in this latest work was absolutely a no brainer. That said, I have mixed feelings about this first book. Ms Day always does a commendable job of world building and character development, but I really found Bane’s character to be lacking. As an entity who cares nothing for others and their mortality, he comes across as cold and aloof for the most part, and that makes him hard to like. Yes, he does soften somewhat later after meeting Ryan, but his impression has already been made.
Action a plenty, mystery and intrigue are definitely big factors in this story, and a conscientious and committed doctor who is stalwart in her duty to save lives and heal those entrusted to her care. Two people couldn’t be more different, but along the way a balance has to be found. I did enjoy the concept of this new series and hope the next story is more enticing.
This had everything in its premise to be a top read for me but unfortunately, I just could not get pulled into the story. Admittedly, I DNF'd this one at about 25%. The male characters were too "badass" and cocky for me to find them enjoyable to read and coupled with the necessary suspension of belief needed for a paranormal romance, I just couldn't get into it.
I had to think about this for a couple days. I did enjoy reading Bane’s Choice but it was not what I would have hoped for.
I did like the banter between Bane and Ryan also I like the secondary characters, they were interesting and they were a little bit more lively.
But unfortunately I never got engrossed or pulled into the story to the point that I couldn’t put it down.
About Ryan and Bane there was not much background information about Them. I would’ve liked to have known more about Bane especially why he had to save the fire fighter Hunter and what was going on with why the progress wasn’t going according to normal. We never saw Ryan helping out “doing her doctor-thing”.
Then I felt like it was rushed in places, and we were told about the conflict between the vampires and the evil organization called The chambers.
But overall it was just a quick, fun not super complicated read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are all my own.
Being honest when I started reading this I thought to myself, oh boy all the old stereotypes vampire book, then a couple of chapters in it became it's own story. It starts off with a bang and has lots of action and steam between Bane a 300 year old vampire, and Ryan a woman ER doctor. It's a pretty quick love story which is actually well done, everyone has special abilities that we discover as the book flows. There are good guys and villains, various paranormal species introduced in this first of a series story. My hope is Ms Day will explore the past of the characters somehow in future stories, why did Bane come to America, Ryan's past with her father, why is Hunter special to Bane, will we learn more about the MC, just a few of my questions. Enjoyable book, great at explaining why people need free choice, good supportive characters. Thanks to Netgalley and publishers for a chance to give an honest opinion
A new vampire series, yippee 😁
This book is about Bane, yep the name in the title. He is a 300-year-old vampire and acts all badass.
Ryan, is a doctor, she's a warm caring lady who comes into contact with a mysterious man while treating a patient, and her world is changed forever.
If I'm honest this book didn't hook me straight away, but once I'd got further in I was more invested. The vampires all have the typical vamp traits, which I don't have a problem with as I like vamp romance books.
The vamps are a group of friends/family and they live in a big house with a Mumsy type housekeeper, I liked Mrs C.
There's plenty of action along with the romance side and the characters develop through the story to a satisfying end.
I'll read more of this series when it comes out.

I have been thoroughly entertained by this authors Warriors of Poseidon series so was very excited to read this book. The idea of a motorcycle club in romance isn't unique but making that club a mixture of both Vampires and Humans was to me very different. Yes its a paranormal romance but there's also the fact that women are being murdered and it looks as if Bane himself is the reason for it !
Look I'm going to be brutal and say I really didn't like Bane. From the start he's this heartless guy who doesn't care if those following him die. I personally wouldn't feel any loyalty towards someone like that so really didn't understand why others followed him. Yes meeting Ryan does eventually soften him slightly but honestly my initial impression of Bane soured him for me.
Ryan is this take charge doctor who doesn't know how to back down and I do get that having the power of quite literally life or death can make many a little arrogant. She's determined to save her patient but she's stepped or rather been pulled into a world from her wildest nightmares. There is something definitely different about Ryan that's mentioned a few times in the beginning and then ignored almost until the end of the story which felt a little uneven to me as I wish it had been commented on a little more.
This couple are quite funny though and their interactions frequently made me smile. Bane just keeps pushing and their mutual attraction is palpable. A jealous Vampire is a very possessive one ! As it's the first in this new series we meet supporting characters who clearly have secrets to tell and I look forward to reading how everything develops as the series progresses.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This story starts out with a bang and captures the reader. I really enjoyed the authors take on vampires and the cross over to MC clubs. While I was a bit taken aback at the beginning as the story just jumps you right into the action, it did level out and become an interesting and fun read. I liked the dynamics of the different supernatural creatures and how the author took everyday life and warped it just a bit to including the character in this story. There is extraordinarily little world building at the beginning we learn it along the way and that made it difficult at times to understand if what was mention was important or just passing knowledge. That said I really loved the action within this story, it balanced well with the vampires, MC, and their enemies. The characters are unique, and bold and I really enjoyed their interactions with each other. The doctor was a bit hard to take at times, but she found her way. There are moments of strife, twists and turns and enough angst to make this story enjoyable. I would recommend it to lovers of the supernatural, MC club and actions readers. I received an ARC vis NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC and I am leaving an honest review. 3.75 stars

I love biker and vampire books, so the thought of having both in the same story sounded like a spectacular read for me. I didn't get the gritty Sons of Anarchy vibe I had hoped for. Rather, it leaned more toward the True Blood campy style. I did like the story, but it wasn't exactly what I had expected.
There are tons of characters aside from humans and vampires. You have warlocks, necromancers, werewolves, zombies, and more. I absolutely, totally loved Meara and the sizzling chemistry between her and Edge. Luke and Carter were strong characters as were Constantine and Sylvie. There's a lot of world building and series set up. Relevant information was strategically fluid in how it was presented where I never felt overwhelmed or info dumped—which is a testament to this author's skill. There's a story arc that will obviously carry over into the other books in the series. So while the book does end at a natural point, the ongoing nature of the story arc leaves a few unanswered questions.
For the most part, I generally liked both main characters but Ryan was so over-the-top that she just outright annoyed and frustrated me. She was so set on commanding independence and felt the need to buck everything and everyone. I think it was meant to show her strength, but it came across as bratty. Bane...I loved his devotion to Ryan and how he tried to change in hopes of falling into her good graces. And while his power was evident at the start and near-end of the book, that grit and strength from those parts didn't appear in the middle of the story when those around him ribbed him for his distraction toward Ryan.
In the end, I was hoping for a grittier story and I was left with far too many unanswered questions to truly love the book. While this story might not have hit the mark with me, I'm sure it will appeal to others and grow into a great series.
/I received an advanced edition of this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my opinion of the book or content of my review./
When Bane goes to the hospital to take his mortally wounded friend in the hopes of turning him, Bane meets the fiery Dr. Ryan St. Cloud. Intelligent, sassy, and fierce, Ryan is the first person in a long time to challenge Bane, and he is instantly intrigued. Who is this fascinating and intelligent woman, and why does she move him so? On top of that, how does she resist his powers, and why does she glow?
Ryan is shocked when she sees a stranger trying to steal her patient. However, she never expected to be thrust into a world of vampires and a supernatural battle for power. She also never expected to fall for the mysterious and handsome kidnapper. As her feelings for Bane grow, can Ryan protect her heart and her patient?
Ryan is an interesting character and one of my favorites in the story. A human immersed in a supernatural world that was previously unknown to her, Ryan hides her fear and stands up to Bane and his intimidating peers. I like her gumption, her take-charge personality, and her humor. Take a look at one of her more sarcastic moments:
“I’m not sure you should thank me, Doctor. I’m the villain in your story.”
She gave him a long look. “You’re taking too much credit. Maybe you can be part of a subplot?”
I love how Ryan’s humor and sarcasm not only brings a bit of light-heartedness to the story, but it also breaks down the wall that Bane built around his heart. As the leader of his motorcycle club and head of his household, Bane shoulders a lot of responsibility, and, as a long-living vampire, he’s experienced a lot of loss. Ryan makes him feel things he hasn’t felt in a long time, and Bane makes Ryan feel desired. They fill voids in each other’s lives, challenge each other, and are really attracted to each other, which leads to a chemistry-laden romance. Get a fan, because Ryan and Bane’s sexy scenes are swoon-tastic!
Bane’s sister Maera is another intriguing character. Like Ryan, Maera is a strong, independent woman who is unwilling to bend to the alpha males that fill her life. She is loyal to a fault and respected by her family. Sharp and fierce, Maera is also vulnerable and loving. Though Maera isn’t the main focus of the story, she leaves a strong impression, and I’m hopeful that her story will be further explored in future books. I also like that Ryan and Maera developed a friendship. Often, women become competition or rivals in romance novels, and I like that the author took Ryan and Maera’s relationship in a different direction.
Other minor characters, like Edge, Mrs. C, and Luke are dynamic additions to the story, and their camaraderie is funny and heart-warming. I also like the plot, which includes a battle for power among the supernatural. Warlocks and necromancers threaten the precarious peace among the vampires and wolves. As the battle heats up, Bane and his family must do everything they can to protect their people as well as themselves, which grows increasingly more difficult.
Bane’s Choice is an interesting, immersive, and sexy story that will appeal to readers of supernatural romance. The story wraps-up nicely while still leaving some questions unanswered, which I liked. I’m curious to learn more about Ryan. What is she? How does she resist the powers of the vampires? What will happen to Maera and her potential love interest? Will the warlocks cause more trouble? I can’t wait to find out. Thanks so much to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first time reading about a vampire motorcycle club (in fact, about a motorcycle club in general) and it was fantastic!!
Since this is the first book in a new series I'm very happy that you get Bane's backstory a little bit before it jumps into the romance. You learn a bit about him when something near and dear to his heart happens and it brings in the gorgeous Dr. St. Cloud. Bane of course can't stop thinking of her and he abducts her. When he does that then he starts falling for her but she of course is very scared at the start because she is learning about all the things that "go bump in the night" are actually true.
There is something unique about Ryan St. Cloud and you don't find out until the end but it definitely was a shocker for me!
I really enjoyed the romance for the most part except things seemed to happen very very VERY quickly which is why I only gave it 4 stars. I feel like you meet Bane when he is a "badass vampire who can intimidate anyone" and Ryan who calls herself "reliable ryan" where she doesn't do anything out of the straight and narrow. All of a sudden less than 100 pages later they are all in love with each other and want to marry. It just seemed very unrealistic even for a PNR.
Still a great book, still great erotic scenes and I am very excited to continue this series!
From the beginning chapters, I felt like I was missing out on so much information. I thought maybe this was a part of a series that I hadn't read yet but it wasn't. I wish so much that this could be like a duology with Bane. There wasn't enough information about any of the magical creatures and if this was more than one book, I feel like it could have been more felt out and completed. However, I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I think this is a really good book but it just needs more detail and maybe spread out the timeline. Three days to a week for an entire book like this seems very unrealistic.
The first in a new series for Alyssa Day, so there was quite a bit of set up for this new world. Told from multiple POV's Bane is a centuries old vampire who has become disenchanted with his life. We are introduced to an ongoing battle between necromancers and warlocks along with a truce that in jeopardy with werewolves and we get an insight into the process of how vampires are changed. So while there is a main storyline between Bane and Ryan, there are also several multiple starting points for where this world will take off.
Bane is the leader not only over his MC group (which is something is more in the background for this story), but he is also the leader over his vampire family. He is controlling and possessive over everyone around him and the same holds true when Ryan comes into the picture.
When the war heats up everyone in Bane's family is in jeopardy and Bane is torn on how to help when facing such a powerful enemy while trying to keep his new love safe.
Dr. Ryan St. Cloud is helping a patient, the very one that Bane steals from under her nose, when they first meet. He can sense she is different that first night, but cannot pinpoint what she is. This underlying mystery holds throughout the entire story on what makes her special, but it is something. Aside from this mystery, Ryan is bold and doesn't back down from Bane and his commanding ways. She intrigues Bane in ways no one has in centuries and he finds himself claiming her when he knows he shouldn't.
This was a good starting point for what I hope will be a good series because Bane's Choice ended with several open ended plot lines. I hope the plots and subplots Alyssa started tie up in another story because I was left with questions. Aside from that, the multiple POV's kept the book moving and did ramp up the suspense. It also had me looking forward to upcoming books, which again hopefully will answer some of my questions.
Overall, if you love the paranormal world, there is a lot to look forward to in this new world created by Alyssa Day.

Bane’s Choice is not the first Ayssa Day book I’ve read. I read the first couple of installments of her Warriors of Poseidon series back when they were first released starting in 2007; I stopped reading them not because I did not like them, I remember enjoying them as I read them, but because I had caught up and honestly just forgot to go back and pick up the rest of the series when it was finished. Having now read Bane’s Choice, I don’t find myself in much of a hurry to read her other books.
When I first saw the cover of the book I was excited, a vampire motorcycle club sign me up. I was hoping for exactly what that cover promised a vampire motorcycle club, but I didn’t really get that in this book. The motorcycle club was pretty much nonexistent. They made an appearance in the first chapter and then are not heard of again until the end. What I wanted, what I was led to believe I would get, was a novel about the love lives of a motorcycle club that just happened to have vampire members, but what this book really was … wasn’t that.
About 80% of this book happens in one location, the house where Bane lives with his sister Meara and two other vampires, Luke and Edge. I’m sure we will get their stories in upcoming books so I wasn’t really mad that we learned very little of any of them. Except we learn very little of any of the characters including our two main’s, Bane and Ryan. We don’t really learn much about Bane’s past, and what we learned is basically just told to us. We don’t even know why they migrated to Savannah. And we learn even less about Ryan. Basically, Ryan is a doctor, her father was an asshole, although we don’t really know why or in which way, she lived with her grandmother, but we don’t know when or why, and she whines a whole lot about not being as pretty as or as thin as or as glamorous as Meara or her friend or some random person walking down the street.
The book itself was about Bane and Ryan falling in love after one day, and the vampires battling an evil organization called the Chamber and the evil necromancer they sent to take over Savannah. I know this because we are told this. There’s very little action in this book and what there is seems rushed and honestly boring. I really didn’t care about the action; not even a werewolf motorcycle club made me care about how they were battling against the evil, scary necromancer.
I think the biggest issue is that in my head this was supposed to be a different book than what it ended up being. It wasn’t a bad book, Ms. Day’s writing made sure of that, but it wasn’t the book the cover promised. I’m going to read the next one because I really liked the secondary characters more than I liked the mains, and hopefully the next will be more motorcycle club and less angsty vampire.
This book was provided free of charge by NetGalley and the publishers for an honest review.
Bane's Choice is a fangtastic fantasy novel that will captivate you from the start. Alyssa Day will mesmerize readers with her dazzling writing and fascinating characters.
When I heard about this book and was told that it was a mix of Sons of Anarchy and True Blood, I knew I had to read it. In the beginning, we are introduced to a dominant vampire named Bane. He is living among humans and doing it in plain sight. He is the leader/president of The Vampire Motorcycle Club which ironically is primarily comprised of humans. He is very protective of those that he is close to and will protect them at all costs. When warlocks try to threaten his territory, he won't go down without a fight. He has faced danger in all of his 300 years but this time it's different.
Dr. Ryan St. Cloud comes into the picture when she is trying to save a patient who is a burn victim. The patient happens to be one of Bane's closest human friends. Bane knows that he can save his friend by turning him into a vampire, but when he tries to compel Ryan he is completely left speechless. Ryan is unlike any human that he has met and finds himself attracted to her like never before.
I love how different Bane and Ryan are and how that only makes their attraction more appealing. They get to know each other pretty quickly and yet it never felt insincere. I am such a fan of vampire novels and I know that some come off as cheesy, but I guarantee you this book is not that. All the twists and turns add to the suspense of the novel. I admit that this is my first time reading Alyssa Day, but I am so glad I did because this book was so easy to read and engaging.
I give Bane's Choice 5 stars. It's an alluring fantasy read that will easily capture your attention. I am so happy that vampire novels are coming back and if you are looking for your next vampire read, you NEED to read Bane's Choice. The romance between Bane and Ryan is special and it shines throughout the entire book.
I received this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave an honest opinion.
Bane is a Vampire. He and his "family" live in Savannah where they have a truce with the Werewolves for peace' They have had problems in the past with "The Chambers", a group of blood drinking, black magic Warlocks but Bane managed to overcome them in their quest to take over Savannah as their territory..
Ryan, a human, is a doctor and a surgeon. In her own words, she is "Reliable Ryan", always there to cover a shift for others or work holidays so others can be home with their families. Her life is about to change...
Bane and Ryan meet when a friend, a human, is badly burned in a fire. It is very serious and it looks as if he won't live so Bane has decided to Turn him. Ryan catches him taking her patient and he tries to "thrall" her into forgetting him but much to his surprise, it doesn't work on her. And her skin glows a bit? What is she? He doesn't know what to do, he may have to kill her. And of course there is an attraction there!
What will happen? Will Ryan have to die? Will Bane's friend survive the Turn? Will the Warlocks cause more problems? Most of all, WHAT is Ryan?
I really liked this story and it grabbed a hold of me pretty quick. None of the Vampires really wanted Ryan around as her being human was a threat to them. Ryan, being a spunky as she is, did manage to win them over slowly but surely. The chemistry between she and Bane seemed to build and build, until they exploded, together of course...
I like the changes that Ryan developes, like she has come to realize she has more to offer.
The Warlocks were nasty and pure evil, only bent on their taking over regardless of the cost. And they want Ryan...or he blood I should say...
Interesting cast of characters: Meara and Edge, Luke. Reynolds, who is the werewolf alpha. I see more stories from these characters and even more from Bane and Ryan! I think this story is a good read!
Ryan is a doctor focused on her work. Bane is a 300 year old gorgeous vampire out to save a life. Ryan and Bane collide in the best way. I loved his attraction to her and how they interact. Ive been swept away in their story which I found to be surprising and unexpected in events and the characters’ humor.
This story was such fun to read, I really enjoyed all of it! Bane comes across angry and very aggressive in the beginning, the type that prefers to fight first and not talk, until you really get to know the real vampire behind the mask he wears. He ends up at the hospital trying to save a friend and in the process Dr. Ryan St. Cloud bursts in attempting to stop him from harming her patient. She is the one person he can not take control of and the attraction to her is huge. She doesn't know who he is or rather what but she is spunky and will do anything to stop him until he disappears with her patient.
These two are so good together and funny its a perfect match. Ryan is hilarious and quirky just what Bane needs and it shakes up his home and friends in a great way. The other vampires that live with him are his family and each one of them have such attitude but it works and you enjoy reading about each and every one of them, even the housekeeper Mrs. C and her husband Tommy. I don't want to give too much away, its such an enjoyable read!
So I really really liked this. I liked the tongue-in-cheek humor, the whole cast of characters with interesting back stories, pretty much everything. This is definitely an insta-love story - but it worked within the background. Vampire stories can be hit or miss for me - the blood stuff is always a little bit queasiness inducing. But I loved how this story acknowledged the 300 year history of the characters. Bane, who was born with a different name but doesn't remember it anymore, is a great character. At the beginning of the story we are set up to understand that he is not a nice vampire. He's angry, cold, and violent. But as we get to know him you can see how that is really just a front for a man who runs drugs (that he pays for, from Canada, for children who can't pay for it themselves) and who supports his bad ass biker club (and helps the human and non-human members alike get what they need to live their best lives). He also supports his chosen family with love - all the while pretending he's a bad guy - the villain of the story.
Ryan is a doctor and a pretty awesome person. She is hilarious and takes the entire vampire and motorcycle club thing pretty much in stride - not to mention the other things she learns along the way. I loved how tough she was. She is assertive and strong - but also gives forgiveness and second chances. She is pretty much the opposite of drama - which is good because Bane's middle name might as well be drama.
This is a great start to a series - I can't wait to read more!
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.
Bane's Choice is a mythical story submerged into normal everyday human life. It has all the making of a magical read with vampires, witches, werewolves and demons. It took me seven to eight chapters to get into this read, but once I did, I enjoyed it.
