I follow this page on IG and its one of my favorites. This book was quirky and just as funny. Although I did feel like it was rushed at times and it could have had more enjoyable content. But all in all, very enjoyable for any fan.

Thank you Netgalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Meh

"(...) if you take anything away from any part of this book, it's that you need to enjoy the life you have, because tomorrow, as we've seen, isn't guaranteed. Our lives are our own, so make your poor choices, laugh at your misfortune, learn to have fun in even the most ridiculous situations, because when you're looking back on these years later in life, you'll want to be able to say that you did it all, without fear of failure or judgment."

This book is written by the creators of the "My therapist says" instagram account. It is written in first person form in the voice of a girl, giving advice on life, relationships, jobs and friends. Her therapist sometimes chimes in as well. The tone of the book is kept light, sometimes funny or sarcastic.

I know the instagram account, which is mostly memes, and thought this book might be a fun read. The book is an easy, sometimes fun read and did make me laugh from time to time. However, I constantly felt too old for this book or this sort of advice. The book seems to be marketed for women in their early to mid twenties or even late teens. Also, it feels like the authors sometimes tried too hard to be funny. So, even though I was hoping to enjoy this book, it is not my cup of tea!

I was not familiar with the Instagram account, but I will definitely be following it now. This book has advice, sure, but there are also excellent memes, thought-provoking lists, and questions to spark thought in the reader. Plus, commentary on how said therapist rolls their eyes, shakes their head, and practically begs the reader not to take some of the tongue-in-cheek advice.

If you’re a fan of the Instagram account, or just love infusing humor into even he darkest parts of humanity, this book is for you. I have struggled with anxiety and the mental effects of chronic pain for years, and anything that can help me see some of those things in a lighter way is a-ok in my book. Plus, there are gems of wisdom in between the sardonic humor.

It’s out now if you are so inclined, so check it out via your fav, local bookstore or request through your library.

My Therapist Says..
Published 6th October 2020

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group, the author and @netgalley for a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book, I thought it was fun, quirky and took it as very tongue in cheek (I wasn’t aware of the Instagram page beforehand). I thought the checklists were a good addition, however I did find it a little childish in parts and would probably be appreciated by a much younger audience.

Hilarious but also insightful - particularly when it comes to dating. In other words, don´t always take your therapist seriously, and try to make a little bit of fun of everything. There are some good tips and ideas hidden under the comic wraps so you better read this book carefully and without skipping anything. You may realise that sometimes, reading a good book can be better than couple of therapy sessions.

I really enjoyed this book and found myself laughing out loud on several occasions. I felt like I was sitting with a friend sharing advice- often not so great but at the same time we've all been there! I really loved the layout of the book- the checklists and other pictures. Very aesthetically pleasing! Thank you to NetGalley and

📚REVIEW - My Therapist Says by the team at My Therapist Says 📚 I received this eARC from @netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Still on my self-help kick. I have been following My Therapist Says for YEARS. I swear my one group chat with my friends is full of memes bc #relatable so I was so excited when I saw there was a book coming out written by the team. I don’t know if I’ve ever read in a book one star, but this is the one. I literally don’t understand how this was even published, it’s basically like a bunch of drunk women got together to write a fake self-help book and then a fake therapist popped in every once in a while to try to rationalize their advice. It was a train wreck. I literally don’t know what else to say it was that bad. It was a quick read and I didn’t joy some of the illustrations that I included on the next slide, but it by far was a joke of a self-help book and I honestly felt like they were not taking mental health seriously in their writing which is NOT something I’ll endorse. 🤷🏻‍♀️
So yeah maybe just stick to the Insta...

So humorous and made me laugh out loud. I love the Instagram page and I loved this book as well! Very uplifting and thought provoking at the same time.

I am not able to give an actual review of this book - the PDF of the the ARC I received was only viewable on maybe every 27th page or so. Unfortunately, I received no answer to my repeated mails to the publisher, so can only say that I enjoyed what little I was able to read. It's catchy and funny, albeit dark and sarcastic. So not a book on "serious" therapy issues (which is what some apparently expected from the title).

I had a difficult time finishing My Therapist Says. I almost set the book aside when reading the long, very long, acknowledgments page and introduction. While I found the writing style of the author funny, I wanted more depth in the advice.

Even though I was not a fan of this book, My Therapist Says probably has a good audience with a younger generation.

The only good thing I got from this book is that there's an eye-pleasing color scheme inside. The rest is just so disappointing. I thought I'm going to read the next Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, but surprise, I just got annoyed while reading this book. The content is totally not what I expected. I expect a lot more insights from the therapist themselves, but what I got is just a bunch of stories I didn't care to know about. I also didn't like the writing at all. Such a waste of potential to become a good book.

My Therapist Says is a fun, humorous look at advice.

Along with the not so great relatable advice you would expect from a friend or co-worker, you get the professional opinion of a therapist. The expert advice and take on a situation.

It is a quick book that doesn’t have to be read in page order. I also really enjoyed the aesthetic of the book. The lists and graphics went well with the theme of the book.

All together I think this would be a great gifting book. It is a mixture of a self help/advice book and entertainment book. It is funny and sarcastic with useful information.

I'm a fan of the Instagram account "My Therapist Says" and was very much looking forward to this book. While outrageous at times, it is hilarious on many sides for its advice. This book is exactly what I was expecting and hoping for.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book delivered bites of wisdom wrapped up in humor. A wonderful blend of advice and delivered like an advice column. I'd be very interested in a podcast if that's in the future.

This is my fault as I was not familiar with the social media account this is based on and just clicked on it as I'm interested in therapy. Suffice it to say that if you are a fan of the account then you will probably love this but it wasn't for me. It's supposed to be a humorous guide to life, love and dating based on insight gleaned from years of therapy but for me it felt like those pop quizes you get in women's magazines. Light, vaguely interesting as a way of filling a few moments and then instantly forgettable.

I have to admit, I never did follow the @MyTherapistSays Instagram account before reading this book. I was just drawn in due to personal experiences with therapy, therefore I did not really know what to expect.

This book covers all types of life advice from relationship's, to jobs, to self-care, and is brutally honest about life and the daily anxieties some of us face. It switches between the perspective of the writer and the opinions of her therapist. Some of the things which are mentioned in the book, I found a bit cringe and some of the things I assume people may see as common sense, but I thought it was very light hearted and a reminder that we all face the same struggles.

I really liked the graphics and the quotes throughout the book. I have to say the mint green writing required me to strain my eyes (and that's with glasses on!) but I am sure that would be fine in print format.

Overall I think this book was aimed at a younger audience than myself. I wasn't overly keen on the whole book (I may have skipped the Astrology section). However, the open nature of this book and the honesty the anecdotes are told with, I believe will really help to destigmatise mental health and hopefully lead to people having more open conversations. Overall, a book all teenagers should read, especially when feeling like you're on your own.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group Rock Point for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A brilliant and relatable read.
Nicely laid out with pages to fill in.
A hilarious guide full of advice you should (not) follow. If you are a fan of their Instagram account then this is the book for you

Not at all what I expected. Very different from what was advertised.

I really did not like this book. I didn't find it funny. I found it to be very flippant, and disrespectful.
After struggling with my own mental health previously, I don't think this book does any good for promoting mental health.

I do not recommend whatsoever, and am surprised this book has even been published!!

I’d not come across @mytherapistsays before kindly being given the e-arc of the upcoming book by @netgalley & but man I’m glad they found me.

This humorous, tongue in cheek ‘self-help’ guide kept me chuckling throughout. With the less than helpful, yet exactly what a friend might say, ‘advice’ interluded with the reactions of a qualified therapist.

In the current climate of decreasing human connection, this was the light relief I didn’t realize I needed.

Hilarious. Definitely a quick read because it keeps you captivated and wondering what crash scene you're coming up to next. Definitely a hilarious take on therapy and a messy life. Laughable, and a book I'd definitely give to my girlfriends when they need a laugh.
