I have been provided with a review copy of Twice Kissed from NetGalley for an impartial review. Oh my gosh this story was just epic. I just couldn’t put this story down and I was just captivated by everything that was taking place. The author truly outdid herself with this story. This story just had my emotions all over the place and I am so sad to see this series end. I just can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.
Thank you to @kensingtonbooks & @readlisajackson for sending me an E-ARC of her latest novel Twice Kissed!
This was my first book by Lisa Jackson and it did not disappoint! I really enjoyed the fact that it was a romance but also a thriller type of book, which i was not exactly expecting, but completely loved. I really enjoyed this book even though there were parts i disliked. I really love a book that makes me cry, scream and smile all at the same time, and I found this book really allowed for that!!! I totally recommends you pick up a copy!!
I’m normally a big fan of Lisa Jackson but I was disappointed in this one. I’m not sure what the problem was but it just didn’t grab and hold me the way her titles normally do. The narrative moves between the “present”, 1998, and nearly twenty years in the past, 1979, and back again, in an attempt to bring the main characters and their relationships into focus. Unfortunately, I had a hard time finding any of the characters very likeable or charismatic and there was much repetition in terms of secrets that were being kept, distrust, etc. Eventually, I found myself just skimming through to get to the big “reveal” near the end. Sadly, I don’t really think I missed anything. I believe this is an older title of Jackson’s that has been republished in light of her recent and current popularity. I don’t really recommend it to any but diehard fans who feel compelled to read everything she’s written. She’s come a long way as a writer and that’s very evident when you read this earlier work.
Always love Lisa Jackson, and always enjoy her books. This one was okay, but definitely not my favorite. I did enjoy reading about Maggie (main character) and found the story moved quickly. The plot kept me interested, but the book didn’t hold my attention quite as much as normal Lisa Jackson books. Also to note...this is a re-release of a book Lisa Jackson wrote years ago.
Thank you to netgalley for the the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Lisa Jackson knows how to write a great romance and mystery! There had been a lot of deaths in Maggie and her twin Mary Theresa’s life; mother, father, brother, and husband. Now Mary Theresa is missing and feared dead. Maggie’s first and only true love, Thane, married her captivating sister. They divorced, and now he shows up at her house years later wanting her to help him find her. He is a suspect along with other ex-husbands, lovers, and show business rivals. It is obvious that Thane and Mary Theresa have been in contact off and on with Mary Theresa showing up at his ranch when she needs to get away. Maggie still resents that Thane left her for her sister. She believes Thane is keeping many secrets, and she does not trust him or herself with him. There is still a strong attraction and she has never fully understood Thane and Mary Theresa’s relationship. As she searches for her twin, she realizes she does not know her sister as well as she thought. Factor in a struggling relationship with Maggie’s daughter, Becca, and a sister-in-law who wants custody of Becca for her inheritance and you have plenty of intrigue.
I have read many Lisa Jackson books over the years and this one did not disappoint. A complicated relationship between two identical twins and their budding romances as they were growing up develops into a missing person mystery This was a fast paced book and the door is open to a follow up if Jackson chooses to write one. Overall a good read!
So excited for a new Lisa Jackson book only to realize it's a re-release from 20 years ago. And while I'm usually not disappointed by Ms Jackson, this one didn't do it for me. Didn't like the characters, felt the story dragged and was dull, just overall not happy. Don't let this one represent Lisa Jackson stories for you!
I hate to give books 2 stars but I just really didn't enjoy reading this one. Maggie is really the only character that I liked, even if she was completely naive when it comes to her sister. Marquise is a completely horrible person and pretty much has been her whole life, but Maggie is surprised to hear the things she has done each and every time. Maggies daughter Becca has that whole teenage I hate everything about my life thing going on and that got old quickly. The tension between Maggie and Thane was believable with what happened between them in the past, but it seemed like they got together really quickly and without reasolving anything between them.
I have read other Lisa Jackson books that I've really liked, this one unfortunately wasn't for me.
Twice Kissed is a fantastic twister! The main characters are filled with electricity that has only grown stronger in the passing years. The addition of a twin scenario adds psychological drama with twists that keep the pages turning. A great novel to study character flaws and personality traits, raising the question if anyone truly really knows what another is thinking—unless, of course, true love reconnects.
Lisa Jackson brings us a story of sisters. Maggie and Mary Theresa are identical sisters who share a bond of communication. Maggie lives a quiet life with her daughter after the death of her husband as her sister has reinvented herself as Marquise and lives her life in the limelight as a TV star. Life changes for them when Marquise's ex=husband and Maggie's former love shows up when her sister goes missing.
Lisa Jackson brings us a story of intrigue as Maggie and Thane go searching for answers. Along the way, Maggie discovers some hard truths about her sister and the conflicting feelings she still has for Thane. Lisa Jackson shares a story with twists that keep you guessing and turning the page.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.
This is not my typical review but an attempt to justify why I wasted 4 hours reading this drivel—again. I got excited when I saw Twice Kissed on NetGalley. A new Lisa Jackson book! I quickly downloaded it. Then I realized that I had read this book when it was originally published in 1998.
I don’t remember my feelings about it then. But while rereading it, I didn’t like it much at all. It may be because I’m an only child, who is the mother of an only child, so I don’t understand the sisterly bond.
However, if my twin sister stole my boyfriend, married him, and then turned up missing, I would have said it’s karma. I wouldn’t have looked for her. Certainly not with my former soulmate. I would have realized that he also betrayed me with my twin. So I wouldn’t have found myself falling for him all over again. Stupid girl! Ugh!
There are much better books out there by Lisa Jackson. She publishes almost as many books as James Patterson in a year. Read those and not Twice Kissed. 2 stars.
Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Some wonderful characters, and a creative storyline! I adored the character Thane in this story, he was so well woven I could just envision this gritty, hard beautiful cowboy. I was not crazy about the character of Maggie her personality seemed to be a bit lacking in depth. The story itself takes us through a search for Maggie’s twin sister who she is mostly estranged from. We learn of a past of lies and deception from her twin resulting in a very distanced life. But when Mary Theresa seems to be in trouble Maggie goes to help.
I adore this author but I found this book to be quite slow for one of her stories. Not much happened till the very end. I did enjoy reading about her reconnecting with Thane. There were also strange tangets like the aunt trying to get custody of Maggie’s daughter which randomly fizzled out.
Overall this was an ok read. I also enjoy the Wyoming imagery woven in. This is worth a read curled up with your Kindle as long as your not expecting fast paced suspense.
Always, I am honored to review a Lisa Jackson book. Lisa draws the reader in yet keeps the suspense going throughout this read.
Maggie, in her mid-30's, and her daughter, Becca' 13 have lived in rural Idaho for about 9 months. Hmmm - quite a change from Los Angeles... Maggie has a twin, Mary Theresa (stage name "Marquise"). Yet, Maggie "hears" her twin's voice asking for help.
Enter Thane, who had been married to.Mary Theresa. He arrives at Maggie's ranch. A total surprise to Maggie. (Maggie still has feelings tucked inside for Thane). She doesn't want to see him -she is afraid of dredging up old memories. Yet, Thane tells Maggie that her sister has disappeared -the police fearing the worst...
Lots of surprises and a truly enjoyable read!
Many Thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for the ability to read and review!
As a fan of Lisa Jackson, I have to say this one was a disappointment. This is a rerelease of a book written many years ago. Almost from the beginning, I found it annoying - the names of the characters alone drove me up the wall - Marquise, Pomeranian ... smh. In addition, the characters were unlikeable. The only one who had any redeeming qualities was Maggie, and even at times, I wish she had a stronger backbone. The first half was okay. I wanted to know what happened but after a while, it just felt long and drawn out. Quite honestly, when I finally got to the ending, my first thought was - this could have been done as a novella instead of a full-length novel. There was no real mystery and the conclusion was a let down. The author chose the obvious solution and the reasoning behind it was trite and uninspiring. With so many books on my tbr list, I can't believe I wasted time reading this one.
It was more of a romance than a mystery/thriller. I wouldn't even classify it as romantice suspense because there wasn't much of that either. Obviously, this one fell flat for me. This is my honest opinion in exchange for the earc.
Thank you #netgalley and #kensingtonbooks for the earc.
I have liked Lisa Jackson books in the past so I was excited to get this one. I didn't realize at the time that it was a rerelease. It's a little dated, but that wasn't really that big of a deal. I was hoping for a page turning mystery but al I really got was a kind of predictable mini mystery wrapped up in a romance novel. It does have a lot going on. Incest, twins who hate each other, twins who marry their sister's boyfriend, people who seem honestly surprised that twins look alike, and, of course, the obligatory brat teenager (I don't know if either of my kids would be adults right now if they had been this obnoxious). I am really glad that Lisa Jackson grew as a writer after this book. I cannot figure out why it is being released again.
I found this book a little unbelievable, and the writing to be uneven.
The book tells the story of twin sisters who stopped speaking but may be able to communicate psychically at times. While this is not a huge part of the story, it does begin the main character, Maggie, on a quest to find her twin, now a famous television star going by a single name.
Joining Maggie on the quest is her and her twin's ex, and her 13 year old daughter. The main characters were kind of flat, and while some of the twists were okay, others seemed ridiculous. I also hated the daughter character.
I wanted to like this book much more than I did.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a solid Lisa Jackson thriller with some romance.
First, this is apparently a re-release of an older book, which I didn't know at the time, but it was fine. The time periods (90s and 70s) are clearly noted. I enjoy books that take place in other time periods, especially the 90s because I lived through them! It's kind of fun to pick out what things could have been avoided if they had the same technology that we have today.
Anyway. Maggie and Mary Theresa (Marquise) are twins who are sometimes able to telepathically speak to each other. Thane Walker, Mary Theresa's ex husband, is also Maggie's ex lover and first love - yikes! When Mary Theresa goes missing, Thane shows up at Maggie's house and asks her to come with him to help clear his name, but there's a problem: Maggie heard Mary Theresa telepathically say that Thane was the reason she was in trouble.
This book definitely kept my interest until the very end.
Another twisted turning mystery from the best in the game. Jackson is a perfectionist in the details of her spellbinding mysteries. Highly recommended
Love triangles are never fun. They are even worse when the other woman is your twin sister. A sister that you have been in the shadow of your entire life, no matter how a like you look.
Maggie is torn when Thane shows up with the news that her sister is missing. Torn between believing him and the feelings that are better left buried. With her sister's life at risk Maggie has now choice but to trust the handsome cowboy who shattered her heart when they were younger.
Lies and secrets start to unravel the closer Maggie and Thane get to the truth behind Marquise's disappearance. The information they leave can ruin lives and endanger everyone that Maggie holds dear.
A deceptive road into family secrets and lovers lies.
Know that this is a re-release of a book originally published in 1998, which means that parts of it will seem quite dated; most notably, some much might have been different were there only cellphones! That said, the basic premise of twins- Maggie and Marquise- who have both a psychic connection and and a shared love of Thane- will pull you though. Marquise has gone missing and Maggie is determined to find her. Why has Marquise run away? Is Thane a good guy or a bad guy? Many questions for sure but no spoilers from me. Jackson's more recent work is better, I think, bit this is entertaining. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a fast read.
