Teddy bear shop manager Sasha and her sister Maddie are all set to be bridesmaids at the wedding of Cissy Davidson. Nothing goes smoothly in the lead up to the big day. The 6" heels are killing their feet, the wedding itself is during the mayoral election and between other big events, and the best man is killed. It seems there are plenty of suspects - the bride didn't like him and didn't want him to be the best man, the bride's sister is the dead man's jilted ex who keeps mentioning how he'd be better off dead, and he made a few enemies at the bachelor party by cheating at poker.
The main reason I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others in the series is because all of the characters involved with the wedding were annoying. Even the bride's dog (who was the ring bearer) was obnoxious. I sort of didn't care who killed the best man because he was awful.
I did enjoy the family element of Sasha's aunt and uncle visiting, and I always enjoy the teddy bear shop scenes. I do wish there were some likable characters at the wedding.
This is the fourth book in this series and I have read them all. I have to say that I am disappointed in this one. I don't know how much more obvious the author could be about the victim. It was clear from the second chapter who was going to be done in. The victim was made out to be so unpleasant that by the end of the book I wondered why anyone would care that he was dead. Normally I enjoy reading books from a first person perspective, but this time I could not connect with the main character and found her boring. There were so many other characters in the story that it was hard to keep track of who was who and where did they fit in. None of the characters were particularly nice or appealing. This made it difficult to keep reading the book.
I may have missed the last book in this series, I don't remember reading three, however, this is fine as a stand alone. It's an amiable cozy with the characters trying to do the right things for their families and the community. The author does a nice job of tying in the backdrop of the bear store and factory with the events that occur. I particularly liked the first chapter.
The patience that Sasha and Maddie show towards the bridezilla in the book rang a little false. For someone who is an acquaintance and barely one at that for Sasha, Sasha and Maddie put up with an awful lot with little complaining. It's not a story line I'm fond of.
There are a few unexpectedly darker elements as well, all involving children which may put some readers off. The author doesn't delve too deeply or linger long, but they are there.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
Wedding Bear Blues is the fourth installment in the Shamelessly Adorable Teddy Bear Mystery series set in Silver Hollow, Michigan and featuring Sasha Silverman, manager of her families Silver Bear Shop and Factory. Valentine's Day is right around the corner and Sasha has her hands full with working at the bear shop, doing a little last minute campaigning for her mother's bid to become the new town mayor, enjoying her relationship with Jay Kirby and preparing for her bridesmaid role in the upcoming nuptials between Cissy Davison and Gus Antonini.
Cissy Davison is the definition of a bridezilla and Sasha can't believe she let her sister Maddie talk her into taking part in the wedding. The bachelorette party is a sure sign of disaster looming on the horizon when it becomes apparent that the majority of the wedding party don't get along. Nobody likes the Best Man, Dylan Campbell who was once engaged to Cissy's sister Debbie and has a reputation as a playboy.
When Dylan is found stabbed to death in the ladies bathroom at the Rehearsal Dinner there are just too many suspects to choose from. Cissy doesn't really care who killed the man, she's more concerned that her wedding is being postponed and begs Sasha to track down the killer. Things continue on a downward spiral when one of the bridesmaid's is found strangled.
A fast moving plot filled with returning series regulars. In addition to solving the mystery, Sasha and Maddie help to organize a gigantic fundraiser for their young relative recently diagnosed with brain cancer. Laugh out loud moments surround Cissy's ill-behaved pooch Mr. Clooney (ringbearer) and bratty flower girl, Martina will keep you turning the pages.
I received an advanced copy of Wedding Bear Blues from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
I so wish I could visit this shop and the family. I had to laugh at the worst wedding as the main storyline leading to murder, so relatable, the wedding not the murder. Great series with loveable characters and very enjoyable.
I enjoyed this book. I liked the main character Sasha and her family. The fundraiser for the brain cancer was brilliant. I found the multiple people to be confusing especially the guys for the wedding. The mystery was interesting but I was surprised by who the killer was. #WeddingBearBlues #NetGalley
Sasha and Maddie Silverman are bridesmaids in a friend’s wedding. With Bridezilla in full force, the girls do their best to get through the bachelorette party and rehearsal before the big day. The best man shows up and disrupts the bachelorette party, they can only wonder what he will do at the wedding. When he is found dead in the women’s room at the rehearsal dinner, the whole event is pushed out as the police investigate and the maid of honor is the main suspect.
Sasha is strong armed into proving the maid of honor’s innocence, while the police keep telling her to leave the investigating to them. Sasha can’t help but investigate and ask questions, but will it make her another victim of the wedding party and delay the nuptial yet again?
This is the second book I have read in the series and while I struggled with the the flow on first one, I really enjoyed this one! The whodunit kept me guessing right until the reveal. I’m looking forward to the next one, Bear a Wee Grudge”.
What.a great series. Sasha owns a teddy bear factory with her family. When a murder happens. Sasha sets out to investigate. The police are not happy with her involvement. Will they find the killer before they strike again. Read the book to find out.
I’ve been meaning to read thus series since the first book came out but for some reason never got around to it. So, this was my first book in the series and I enjoyed it enough to go back and read the previous books. Sasha runs a teddy bear shop, which was a unique setting for a cozy mystery series. She’s a bridesmaid in an upcoming wedding which has lots of drama and rude, obnoxious people invoked. When the best man is found murdered at the rehearsal dinner and the bride’s sister is his ex and the prime suspect, Sasha starts to do some investigating after being asked by the bride’s family.
I enjoyed Sasha as the protagonist but I feel like I would have had more background if I had read the previous books first. Now that I’ve gotten the first books and read them, I can definitely say this is best if you read the previous books, it works as a standalone but you appreciate the characters and their would better if you read the series. I liked the writing style and I’m looking forward to the next book!
Wedding Bear Blues is an impressive addition to this series.
Sasha and her sister are in the worst wedding imaginable, talk about dysfunctional people!
The bride is a spoiled brat, the groom is borderline rude, and the other participants are just crazy!
The maid of honor has it out for the best man, including immature pranks that are only funny to themselves.
Unfortunately for the best man, the last prank is on him, when he’s found in the ladies bathroom with an ice pick in his neck.
The suspect list is long and Sasha can’t resist getting involved.
I really enjoyed this book and I’m looking forward to reading more.
While this book can be read as a stand alone, I recommend reading the other books, to get the full affect.
