I loved this book! The drama of life & love is well told in this book as in the other books in all the series of Morgan Valley. I kept wondering in the first 2 books who would be a great match for Kaiden, his character was very deep even though he played the part of a joker, peacemaker & carefree guy most of the time. I really liked Julia as his match, she’s strong, intelligent, beautiful & has a heart full of love, worthy of someone like Kaiden. We watched the constant chemistry between Julia & Kaiden bubble over each time they were around one another until it exploded & what a great experience that was. I love how author Kate Pearce keeps us on the edge wondering how long it will be before they realize that they’re meant for each other. I also enjoyed how Kaiden showed up with his evidence to prove his belief in Julia after their big blow up. I’m curious as to what will happen next for them & wonder if her brother will show his face around town again. Definitely recommend. Thank you to Net Galley & the publisher & author Kate Pearce for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.

Loved Kaiden Miller. From what we read about him in the beginning of the book, he is thoughtful, and caring, and as the author says – the family jokester – but there’s more to this cowboy than meets the eye. The story starts out with him helping renovate his neighbor’s ranch (Juan Garcia is ailing and needs some updates to the ranch so he can get around with aid of a wheelchair/cane/walker/whatever he needs. What he finds when he visits Juan is Julia, an old frenemy and Juan’s daughter.

Kaiden never really knew what happened to make Julia dislike him but he doesn’t know that Julia wonders the reverse. She’s now a big city attorney, trying to help her dad, but all her dad talks about is her missing brother.

There is intrigue and betrayal and much going on behind the scenes. These two navigate a new “normal” for the growing feelings between them. They both have family “issues” to deal with, and work thru, along with work and home expectations. The best part was watching Kaiden and Julia deal with their growing feelings for each other. I adored Kaiden and commiserated with Julia. Love going back to Morgantown to visit with these folks!

This is the fourth book in the Millers of Morgan Valley series but it can easily be read as a stand alone romance. I have to say I have mixed feelings about this book only because I didn't always like Julia and Kaiden together as a couple. Julia was obviously dealing with a lot of issues - her father's health, career/workplace issues and more but it was just difficult to see the romance with Kaiden. While Kaiden clearly had feelings for her since childhood. In my opinion, the pair did not fit which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the story. So while I think there was plenty of potential with everything that Julia was going through, I just didn't like the pairing.

I have not read any of the other books in this series. I liked the fire between Julia and Kaiden. Kaiden is a dreamy carpenter who has always wanted Julia. Sparks fly when she returns to Morgan Valley to help out her father. The cabin scene was one of the best parts of the entire book. Jeff Miller is an ass and Miguel a heartless snake. Julia is the personification of a successful woman but it's sweet that she needs Kaiden as much as he needs her. I'd make another journey to Morgan Valley.

This is the 4th book in this series, but the first one I have read. I really enjoyed this book and the many times the other characters ere mentioned makes me want to get back to those other 3 books as well.

Kaiden Miller is the deflect and be silly so I don't show my true feelings type of guy who has been shaped into that type of man by his aggressive father. Kaiden takes care of the other siblings by being the one who is expected to confront the dad.

Julia was the beautiful girl in town who escaped and became a big time lawyer. It's obvious Kaiden has always had something for Julia and didn't feel he was enough, put simply. Besides that, he was best friends with her brother and Miguel made it clear he did not want Kaiden with Julia, especially after he told lies that destroyed both Kaiden and Julia's hopes of one another- I am hoping to see a Miguel book and get this figured out! LOL!

While Julia comes home to help her father deal with the ranch as his MS is flared and looking bleak, Kaiden is the one spearheading the renovations. These two have the best love hate relationship and I enjoyed their interactions.

Kaiden always adored Julia, but her jealous brother put an end to any budding romance. When Julia, now an attorney, came back to town to aid her father, now wheel chair bound. As the carpenter doing the remodel to ease Mr. Garcia's life, he was thrown together often with Julia.
Leading to the discovery that they still were attracted and there were things in their pasts, the other didn't know.
This is a sweet second chance romance that overcomes more than a few obstacles to reignite.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC and offer my opinion freely.

Kate Pearce has brought us back to The Millers of Morgan Valley with Kaiden and Julia. We have the class clown and the beauty of Morgan Valley, California. Kaiden has become a carpenter helping out the community and his family ranch while Julia had gone off and became a lawyer. She returns to help out her father as they try to make the house more wheelchair accessible for him. As it turns out, Kaiden is in charge of these improvements and they have to work together. As they work together, tension rises. Feelings from the past and present collide with miscommunication and family meddling. Will Kaiden and Julia be able to get past all of that and see their way to a future together?

Kate Pearce has brought us another chapter in the lives of the Miller family. You get to catch up with all the other Miller family members and neighbors. It is always nice to visit with them. I enjoyed reading the adventure with Kaiden and Julia as they try to maneuver around family and all the complications that life brings with it. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for this privilege.

Easy to read and informative. I haven't read any of the others in this series but this still does a good job of introducing the community to a newcomer. All their family drama, sibling rivalry and career misjustice are the driving force which, is all shockingly entertaining, I really love how neighborly they all are. Their history adds friction to their fight against their attraction but their "romance" seems secondary and challenging but Kaiden is a determined cowboy once he gets in gear.

Kaiden is a member of the Miller family. Their dad, Jeff, runs the family and their farm with an iron fist and an acid tongue. Kaiden dealt with his father's tirades by being a clown. He tried to deflect the things Jeff did by being funny. He was the jokester growing up too. He is a carpenter and helps out on the family farm.

Julia is an attorney in San Francisco. She comes back home to try and help make her dad's house more accessible now that his MS has gotten worse.

Kaiden helps out on the project on Julia's dad's house. Kaiden has always had a crush on Julia. He was friends with her brother Miguel until they had a falling out. Thanks to her brother, Julia thinks that Kaiden has said some bad things about her. She lies Kaiden but is hurt that he'd said things about her.

As the project goes on, Kaiden and Julia get to know the real versions of each other and they develop feelings for each other. But Julia's life is in San Francisco and Kaiden's is in Morgan Valley.

I liked this story. I felt bad for Kaiden. He had a hard life growing up. His dad was a jerk witb no redeeming qualities. It felt like the characters tried to make reasons why he was like that. That is just because they are good people.

I had really strong feelings about this book. I loved Kaiden - and have really liked him since we first me him in this series. His family is difficult- to say the least - and he is the easy going one. The one who always makes people laugh - but works very hard. Julia is an attorney in San Francisco that grew up in Morgan Valley. Her brother was Kaiden's best friend until they had a major falling out. She is back in town to help her father adjust to the changes of his life due a relapse of MS. Kaiden is using his carpentry skills to help with the changes needed to make Mr. Garcia's home wheelchair accessible.

Kaiden and Julia have a long history - and have a fiery relationship from the start of the book. Kaiden was interested in Julia throughout high school - but never acted on it. He played the class clown to try and downplay his interest - and maybe took that too far. Julia ended up not liking him at all - especially after his brother told her Kaiden didn't like her. They try to start on a new foot- seeming to "get" each other - but at the same time - every interaction they have ends in a fight. With the other trying to deny their feelings or put a time limit on it.

I think in the end - my issues with this book may have stemmed from just not understanding the final conflict well or the resolution. <spoiler>Julia and Kaiden "agree" to be just friends who have had sex once. Kaiden wants more - but with Julia heading back to San Francisco he doesn't see how they can make arelationship work - so why even try. Neither of them is very forthcoming with their feelings. Out of fear? I guess? Neither seems willing to take a risk. There is a lot of discussion about meeting each other half-way and trusting each other and love to find a way. But - neither is willing to do that. And when Kaiden explodes at Julia over a bunch of false assumptions - Julia kicks him to the curb. Kaiden was definitely off the mark - and what he said did indicate a lack of trust- but at the same time Julia had been giving mixed signals and hadn't tried to contact him at all. Kaiden is instructed to grovel and make nice - but Julia doesn't acknowledge her role in things at all, Pretty much all communication and work is left to Kaiden - because she deserves better. Julia does deserve the best - but she also needs to provide it. I guess this just hit on my major pet peeve of some books - where the hero makes a bad choice, but the heroine takes no responsibility towards the relationship. She is a career woman who is strong and shouldn't have to compromise her career for a man. Well - news flash - life is a big compromise. Having a relationship means giving of yourself too - opening up, being willing to share yourself, and being willing to meet the other person halfway. Here Kaiden was willing to give his all - but Julia was willing to come home more often. That kind of power imbalance won't work long term. Julia even says as much at one point - pointing out that a fiery relationship like theirs isn't a great basis for a long term relationship. I guess for this one - I believe the happy for now - but just seen broken hearts in their future. And that is not really my favorite romance to read. </spoiler>

The writing - as always is lovely and I like visiting this world. I just didn't love the story here. I still couldn't stop reading it - so I would give it a solid 3.5 stars - if for nothing else other than raising really strong emotions in me.

I really enjoyed this story.

I loved the character of Kaiden. He was such a complex character once you got to know him. On the surface, he was the fun-loving charming funny man. However, he used that to mask a lot of pain and confrontation. I loved how hard of a worker he is and how willing he is to help out a neighbor.

Julia was an interesting character. She was a ranchers daughter turned high power attorney who needed to help get her dad situated. I loved that she pushes Kaiden and was willing to lower her walls to accept the friendship that Silver was trying to give.

These two complex characters were fun to read since they both had their issues but yet in many ways, the issues were the same. I loved that they became each other's confidants even if it was by yelling at each other.

ARC received for review

2.5 stars

There was no chemistry between Kaiden and Julia, but there was a whole lot of fighting and snipping at each other. When they hooked up, meh. The drama with her brother, meh. Finding out why her brother and Kaiden stopped being friends, meh. I did love the drama with her work bosses and their ultimate demise. Overall, it was just meh.

I found it very difficult to warm up to Julia. She always assumed the worst and came lashing out only to apologize later. That is not a sympathetic character. Later it felt the the roles reversed and that still wasn’t appealing. I did not read a convincing spark between the two of them. There seemed to be no reason for them to kiss, no plausible motivation.
I would not recommend this book to my patrons.

Kate Pearce never disappoints with her books. I have been waiting for Kaidens book to see how she could spin his story. He is the jokester of the family and hiding his sense of not belonging behind humor. Never really going after what he wants to keep the peace. Many can relate to that. Julia sees behind all the humor and joking and digs deep into his psyche as well as her own.

A sweet contemporary Western romance - not a huge amount of sex, but the scenes are steamy. The cute cowboy who stayed in his hometown and became a carpenter faces his high school crush as she comes to town to take care of her father. It's definitely possible to just jump into the series here, as the other characters and relationships are nicely synopsized, although fans of the series will probably enjoy the cameos and continuing stories of the rest of the MiIller family. Sometimes contemporary romances will have to force a conflict or add a thriller element of violence - this is a standout in that there's a reasonable conflict and no violence. The perfect book to escape into for a few hours when the world is a bit too aggressive.

Julia Garcia is a hot-shot San Francisco lawyer who has just been passed over for a promotion which has been given to an incompetent man, Blaine. Her father Juan has MS and has suddenly taken a turn for the worst so she has taken some annual leave to look after him, something Blaine bitterly resents.

Kaiden Miller was friends with Julia's older brother Miguel at school, he has stayed at home in Morgantown, working on his Dad's ranch and working as a carpenter helping to repurpose some of the historical buildings for housing. When Juan's doctor asks Kaiden to stop over to see what alterations Juan needs to make his home more wheelchair-friendly Kaiden is happy to help, that's what people do in small towns, he doesn't bank on meeting Julia Garcia fancy-schmancy, stick-up-her-butt, lawyer Julia who has always looked down on him. For her part Julia has never forgiven the class clown Kaiden for ridiculing her and bad-mouthing her behind her back at school.

Kaiden is the perpetual funny-man, the peacemaker, the one with the even temper who can coax his bad-tempered father out of a strop, but with Julia his equanimity deserts him and he takes delight in needling her.

This started promisingly but I felt the reasons for the enmity between Julia and Kaiden didn't really have much justification and there was a lot of unexplained backstory with Julia's brother Miguel which didn't go anywhere. Overall there wasn't enough tension between Julia and Kaiden which was compensated by lots of family angst and manufactured drama.

An easy read, with engaging characters but not enough character development for my taste.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in return for an honest review.
