REVIEW
I would like to start this by saying, thank you so much @thrillerchick for allowing me to volunteer as tribute, and be apart of this book. She is one of my all-time favorite authors, so I am feeling totally blessed right now. That being said, if you want to know more about my part in this book, be sure to check it out in early MARCH 😘 I'll post this review again, closer to the pub-date, but I was just too excited to wait.
.
So, does being in this book make me biased? Is it going to make me give this a higher star rating than what it deserves? Hell no. Ellison is one of my favorite authors, because her writing instantly draws you in. I actually read this book in two sittings because I was absolutely hooked. You know when you're watching a movie, or reading a book, and everytime you somewhat get attached to a character, they happen to die? Yeah, well, I'll give you alittle warning; don't get attached to any characters in this one🤣 Literally, SOO many deaths, but it was absolutely brilliant. If I learned anything from this book, it's that I'm seriously glad I'm not rich. Like seriously, money may be able to buy you your own Island, but is it seriously worth it?
.
This is one of those novels that has A LOT of characters, but you find yourself not being able to trust any of them. Everyone has a massive secret, so when the deaths start occurring, you start questioning everyone and everything. I also loved the idea of this whole book taking place on the remote island, it has some serious locked room vibes about it. The scenery was described so beautifully, that I found myself wishing I could visit this island but a lot of death seems to occur there soo better not🤷♀️

WOW. Her Dark Lies is a page turner that comes at you from every angle. It’s a never-ending game of cat and mouse. I absolutely loved every minute of it from beginning to end. It’s thought provoking, twisty and the setting is jaw dropping. Ellison excels at character development.
I highly recommend reading Her Dark Lies.

Great great great book. One of the best suspense books I have read. Already looking for more by this author.

This book is great! Would definitely recommend. Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

Phenomenal character development. I adored the characters in this book. I also found the atmosphere simply breathtaking. The author really brought the island in Italy to life. I love when I can feel like I can envision the layout of the plot. The story line was also unique and well thought out. I did find it to play out a little slowly and the climax was very short lived. I did however enjoy getting to know the characters and I like that the ending was left with a little wiggle room for a “what if”. Overall a richly told story with a slightly slower momentum than what I prefer.

Another terrific thriller from Ellison, one of my favorite and most dependable mystery and suspense writers. Once again, Ellison writes of a family whose shiny public veneer is easily pierced, and a web of relationships hampered by secrets upon secrets. This book reminded me of Rebecca du Maurier's Rebecca and Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None in all the right ways.

Not my favorite JT Ellison, this one fell a bit short for me.
The setting was beautiful, but at times hard to imagine and a little hard to conceptualize as the story progressed.
Claire is on the beautiful Isle Isola for her wedding to THE Jack Compton. An approaching storm quickly shuts off the only way on and off the island creating a beautiful location for a locked room mystery.
Claire's one of a kind wedding dress gets ruined, She's receiving menacing texts. Dead bodies start surfacing...
While this is a fast paced whodunit and why....it feel a little to heavily into the unbelievable realm for me and the ending didn't help much.
It's an enjoyable read for the beautiful location, but the mystery and suspense falls a bit short.

Interesting setting on an island off the coast of Italy. Claire is marrying Jack, but the shadow of his fire wife’s death looms over them. An idyllic wedding weekend goes horribly wrong. Unexpected twists in this engrossing mystery.

Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of this title in exchange for my honest review. This gothic tale is an obvious modern, retelling of Daphne DuMauier's Rebecca in the best way possible. Young artist Claire is marrying into the very rich Compton family, But she truly loves Jack and doesn't really care about his money, all the attention the money brings only makes her feel self-conscious. Fast-forward to their wedding on a private island in Italy. Very quickly everything starts to fall apart. Claire is seriously bothered by Jack's dead ex-wife that has a very mysterious death, no one will talk about it and Claire becomes more fascinated by the deceased Morgan. This thriller is written in a page-turning fashion with many parallels to the classic, but it also stands on its own merit. A highly enjoyable read. Well done!

Her Dark Lies is a great thriller that is hard to put down.
Claire is getting ready to marry Jack Compton, a devastatingly handsome man who is also rich and philanthropic and madly in love with her (could he be any more perfect?). They are getting married on the Compton family's island in Italy, Isle Isola. Claire's career as an artist is taking off, and she has put her youthful indiscretions behind her.
But what Claire doesn't know is that Jack's supposedly dead ex-wife may not be dead after all, and is obsessed with getting her revenge. She has a lot to learn about the Compton family, who are anxious for the marriage to take place, and the non-disclosure agreements signed, so they can share with Claire all that they do (philanthropy is just a part of their business) and keep her safe. And she and her family have their secrets as well, some of which she hasn't shared with Jack yet.
The tension rackets up after each unsettling incident and/or death. You hear the story from multiple viewpoints, and that adds to tension at times, as people's stories don't match up. Even at the end of the book, you aren't completely clear about what happened.
If you are looking for a quick, easy, exciting read, Her Dark Lies delivers.

I haven’t read a book like this in quite a while. I stopped reading thrillers when they stopped surprising me. But I got an E ARC from Netgalley and decided to try the genre again - I’m glad I did. I didn’t want to put this book down - it starts with a chase and you feel like your trying to stay one step ahead the whole time. Much of the book takes place during a horrible storm, and I swear I could hear the thunder and feel the dampness as I read. Thanks you Netgalley for the early copy!

Claire seems to have it all - she has beauty, artistic talent, and a loving fiance who also happens to be part of the extremely wealthy and exclusive Compton family. As they embark for the Compton's Villa on a private Italian island for the wedding of her dreams, strange things begin to happen: a break-in at Claire's home, hidden cameras, strange text messages, and a threat written in blood on her wedding dress. The remote and stormy setting of a centuries old villa sets the tone, and there are dark secrets aplenty on all sides in this dark and twisty thriller, and plenty of questions and cliffhangers to keep the reader turning the pages. While the focus is on suspense over character development, this has plenty of appeal. A good follow-up for fans of The Guest List by Lucy Foley.

Reading Her Dark LIes the plot and characters take me back to the days of devouring Holt and Whitney novels. A wedding is to take place on a beautiful Italian island in the groom's family villa. (As you read you try to picture the scene almost wishing there were photos to view along with your read.) The story is heightened by how much the bride and groom still have to learn about each other, mystery of the groom's first wife, strange events and findings, deaths, storms, dark nights, secrets and havoc. Keep track of the characters, which lives are on the line and what truths may not be told.

A wedding on a secluded island off the coast of Italy, everything should be perfect, but there are too many secrets. Strange and threatening things start to happen. I could not get into this book. It dwelled too much on the setting for me and took away from the story. I found myself skimming reading a lot. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Good premise but confusing narrative. Easy reading but I did want it to end. Still not sure of who did what, when.

In Her Dark Lies by J.T. Ellison, the author sets the scene for a romantic wedding in a villa on an island off the coast of Italy. Claire Hunter, an artist who is scarred by the death of her father, and Jackson Compton, a man with many secrets including one about the death of his first wife, are getting married…unless a killer is successful in spoiling their plans.
Just as they are to depart Nashville, Tennessee, for their nuptials in Europe, Claire and Jackson are attacked in their home. The official story to the police is revised to keep them out of the limelight as one of Jack’s bodyguards claims to have killed the intruder. Once they hit the island, Claire and Jack are bombarded with incidents that cause them to question what they are about to do: skeletal remains on their path from the yacht to the villa, vexing texts, a bloodied wedding gown, just to name a few.
The thriller takes on an Agatha Christie turn as a raging storm descends, knocking the power out and setting up a Ten Little Indians plot as one by one, people are murdered. Who is the mastermind who crashed the Compton’s servers, spied on Claire and Jack with mini cameras everywhere, and conspires to destroy the wedding and its guests?
J.T. Ellison was once a presidential appointee where she worked on travel itineraries. Discouraged by the political scene, she turned to her first love of writing, having completed more than 20 novels including All the Pretty Girls and Good Girls Lie. She lives in Nashville with her husband.
My review will be posted on Goodreads starting January 8, 2021.
I would like to thank MIRA and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in return for an objective opinion.

Let's start off with saying that #thrillerchick is one of my must read authors!! Once again she did not disappoint. This story had me enthralled from page one. I loved that it took place in Italy! This story keeps you guessing until the last page!
Thanks to @netgalley, @harlequinbooks and @thrillerchick for the opportunity to read and review Her Dark Lies.

It's the event of the year. Artist Claire Hunter is marrying wealthy Jack Compton in a luxurious ceremony by the sea in Italy. It's supposed to be a magical day surrounded by close family and friends. However, as soon as Claire and Jack arrive on the island, trouble seems to start. It begins with ominous hints...a mystery woman spotted in white, as well as a sense of someone intruding in Claire and Jack's room. However, it quickly escalates to harassment, when Claire begins receiving blatant messages that someone is out to get her. And then the dead bodies begin piling up, one after another. At first, the deaths appear accidental. It soon becomes apparent that someone has set out not only to ruin Claire and Jack's day, but potentially their lives as well.
And there is a skeleton in the closet, one that has been haunting Claire for a while. Jack's first wife, Morgan. Dead for ten years, from a horrible accident. Or was it an accident? And did Morgan really die? The signs soon point otherwise.
As the storms roll in and the body count rises, Claire begins to realize that nothing is as it seems. It becomes impossible to know who to trust. And the real fear begins to rise...if Claire marries Jack, will she be next in line in the murderer's rampage?
J.T. Ellison is always a solid read. While this book definitely had a "been there, read that" , Agatha-Christie-esque feeling, it was still enjoyable. A solid who-dunit mystery, I was eager to keep reading to see the various twists and turns. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this riveting ARC.

r Dark Lies is my first book by J.T. Ellison but definitely won't be my last. This book is beautifully atmospheric. The setting is a wedding weekend in an old gothic mansion on a secluded Italian island during a massive storm. Don't you have delicious chills already?
Claire is an upcoming artist who somehow becomes engaged to Jackson Compton. The Comptons are an incredibly wealthy, incredibly powerful family and that are a lot of mob-family allusions that help add to the dark, intense atmosphere. On top of that there is also a mysterious narrative that seems to belong to Jackson's first wife--who is dead. So is there a ghost? A sicko stalker? A random psychopath? And then the storm comes in and the lights go out.
Secrets, lies, seclusion, isolation...and a wedding, oh my.
This book was so, so fun and my inner detective was in heaven. There were also a lot of Rebecca vibes happening and Rebecca happens to be one of my most favorite books ever. All in all, Her Dark Lies kicked off 2021 in an extremely promising way.
