I absolutely adored this book. It had everything I love in a great romance — a gorgeous setting, a swoon-worthy love-interest, humor, depth, heartbreak, self-discovery, and so much more.
If you’re looking for a great read that has the humor of The Unhoneymooners, but the depth of Beach Read, I highly recommend you check this out!
This is a beautiful sisterhood story. I started reading it without knowing anything about the story and loved it. The setting is beautiful and the story is very emotional.
Saba, an island in the Caribbean, serves as the backdrop for this deceptively poignant novel about sisterly love, taking chances, and falling in love. Marin is the overly-cautious sister, a foil to her carefree traveler sister Sadie. When Sadie returns home from one of her global excursions looking a bit drawn, she convinces steadfast Marin to take a sister's trip to the island for some R&R. When Sadie misses the flight, Marin ends up on the island alone, with the help of hotelier Lucas Tsai acting as her tour guide.
While the title and cover seem to suggest to readers that this is a beachy rom-com, the truth is that this moving novel offers much more than meets the eye. The book truly shines in its portrayal of the complicated dynamics and deep love of its sisters, but it might take on a bit more than it can chew (it feels a tad too long, and the ending is oddly rushed). This one will find devoted readers, but it's definitely more of a tear-jerker than a breezy read.
I really enjoyed this book! It was more than your typical romance - it had a lot of emotional layers to it in the subplots. It definitely makes me want to go travel the world. The only thing I didn't enjoy about it was I felt the ending wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked. SPOILER - it gives a "happy for now" and even then it felt extremely rushed with the characters coming together again in the last few pages. Regardless, I am eagerly awaiting Libby Hubscher's next book!
This was a really cute, albeit sad story. I loved how Marin got to come out of her shell, but was still a little sad at the flashes to her sister and her diagnosis. I loved the banter with Marin and the various island locals and I loved how much she had to really get out of her comfort zone. I really liked this story, but it was a little too emotional for me as a rom-com book. And there a few times that I really wanted to slap Marin, but overall I really enjoyed it.
Oh my heart, this book tugged at all my heart strings. I knew going into this book it was not going to be as cheerful as the cover made it seem. I was not prepared for how heart wrenching it was going to be. It was such a beautiful story, and I absolutely loved it.
The writing in this book was so good. I felt like it was so well written, considering the hard topics in the books. All the characters in this book were amazing, and I even enjoyed the side characters as well. It is also set in such a gorgeous place. What more could you ask for? My one advice when reading this book is, make sure you’re prepared for an emotional read. I do highly recommend checking it out!
By turns funny, sweet, romantic, and heartbreaking, this tender story of sisterly love will leave you smiling and sighing. (Warning: Keep tissues handy!)
I really liked this story! The cover was super cute and drew me in, but the story itself was so great. I loved the relationship between Sadie and Marin. They were honestly sister goals. This story went beyond the travel rom com. It was a trip of self discovery and relationships. I can't wait to see what this author does next.
Meet Me in Paradise by Libby Hubscher is more than just a delightful summer romp, though it certainly has an element of that. It's a book about sisterhood, grief, and finding one's passion. Just know there's a deep emotional core with this one that may leave you thinking about it long after the last page is read.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
Ahhh I loved this one so much!
It's definitely a heavier read, but the balance is done really well and most of the time you are smiling at the same time you're blubbering and ugly crying! I have always wanted a sister and I just adore books about sisters and their bonds and I can't imagine what that relationship is like - so stories like these are so sweet to me!
There was plenty of snark and romance and laugh out loud situations, and plenty of heartfelt convos and tearjerking moments. But my most favorite part was the "stepping out of your comfort zone" theme. I love when a character goes through growth and change and it's always fun ride tagging along! Especially on a tropical island!
This story broke my heart, but I adored every page. This book is as beautiful as it is heartbreaking. I loved the relationship between Marin and Sadie and the sister and the rest of the characters felt as real to me as my own family. Libby Hubscher is an incredibly gifted storyteller. I think that calling this a romance, while there is a romance, confines this novel to a box it should not be in. It is so very much more. It’s about love, loss, self-discovery and self-acceptance. It was everything I needed and so so much more.
This book is so much more than just a romance. I’ve never had before radius quickly move that to the top of my bucket list of places to visit. So nice to see Marin do something outside of her comfort zone and get out there after your sister tricks her into this trip. You will laugh, he will cry, and you’ll wanna hug this book when it’s done. Thank you for my advanced reader copy
This book is amazing! It’s heartfelt, emotional, and endearing.
I went into it thinking it was a romcom centered around a vacation and it was SO much more. It was more of a women’s fiction novel mixed in with some closed door romance. And it was great.
𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗠𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲 is the epitome of “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” This book takes place in paradise, on the island of Saba in the lesser Antilles. But it’s a very thoughtful book about sisters and is actually quite sad by the end.
Marin and Sadie are sisters who dealt with tragedy at a young age when their journalist mother is killed on assignment. Since then older sis, Marin feels she needs to the rock in the family for Sadie, the adventurous sister who travels the world. When Sadie is home for a few weeks, she convinces Marin to take a sisters we with her to Saba. But Sadie misses her flight and Marin goes on her own. She meets handsome Lucas who owns the resort she’s staying and he definitely makes this solo trip more interesting.
This book was very emotional for the sisters for the right reasons (I don’t want to give too much away!) But I often struggle with sisters or family who feel they have act a certain way because their sibling is one way. If Sadie was off living her life away from Marin, why couldn’t Marin be her own person? I also had a hard time with how Sadie had to trick Marin to even going on a vacation. I like this book, but I didn’t love it. If you are looking for a excellent, but emotional story, I would suggest Float Plan by Trish Doller instead.
Thank you to @berkleypub and @netgalley for my copy of the book. Meet Me in Paradise is on sale now.

I so badly wanted to love Meet Me in Paradise. So many friends adored this book, unfortunately I had to DNF due to the cancer plot line. I think it was a mistake for Berkley to market this as a rom-com when it is clearly a heavy women's fiction with emotional topics.
I've been struggling to review this book - not because I didn't like it, but because I haven't been able to quite grasp the words I want and not spoil the story.
Marin has played it safe all her life, for good reason, and her adventure loving little sister pitches the idea of a sisters trip to Saba. MEET ME IN PARADISE thus starts out with all the feels of a light-hearted rom com - the plane ride and all the zany disasters Marin endures on the way to Saba is the perfect set up.
However, her sister Sadie has the other plans for her - plans to push cautious Marin out of her comfort zone and get her to experience life again. And THAT part of the story is a pure delight! But when Sadie finally arrives in Saba, Marin learns that she's been hiding a secret, and that part of the story just ripped my heart out.
The main characters are really well drawn, and the side characters are so interesting - I hope we haven't seen the last of them.
Alternately laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, and heartbreakingly sad, Libby Hubscher's debut novel is wonderful and will stay with you long after the last page is turned. This is a story about sisters, the sacrifices we make for those we care about, grief and hope. Grab some tissues - you're going to need them, and you'll be glad you read this book.
TYSM to Berkley and NetGalley for my copy of this novel.
Wow. What a heartbreakingly beautiful story about love, loss, adventure, family, and what happens when you finally start living.
This magical story will transport you to the island of Saba with Marin and have you itching to want to join her (and Lucas) on every adventure. While this was often a fun and sweet story, it was also deeply heartbreaking. The characters in this story have all had to deal with great amounts of loss and as they work through their grief in different ways, we all learn along the way. We laugh with them, we cry with them, we celebrate with them, and we're hopeful with them.
Meet Me In Paradise was unlike anything I ever expected (in the best way possible). This beautiful tropical book cover instantly swept me up and I knew I had to read it. What I didn’t know was the emotional mess I would become by the end of it.
Meet Me In Paradise was the perfect soul searching read I needed right now. When I was reading the book through Marins POV it felt like I was reading about myself.
This bittersweet read is about love, loss, love again and self discovery all tied with a bow. After the death of their mother, Marin becomes over protective of her younger free spirited sister Sadie. Marin and Sadie have such a beautiful sibling relationship and I just wanted to jump right in and have a conversation with them.
I found myself googling the beautiful island of Saba and picturing myself hiking in the tall mountains or sailing on a boat with Lucas Tsai (Marins adoring love interest).
I highly recommend if you’re looking for that perfect escape with a lot of heart wrenching moments.
**Thank you to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for a fair and honest review**
Marin Cole plays it safe, which is at extreme opposites of her sister, Sadie. While Sadie is off traveling the world as a photographer, seeking her latest adrenaline rush, Marin is at home working her 9-5 job with no thought to adventure. But things change when Sadie offers Marin a sisters’ trip to the tropical paradise that is the island of Saba. Sadie, however, fails to make the flight and poor Marin is stuck traveling with the mysterious (not to mention smoking hot) Lucas Tsai. Forced out of her comfort zone for the first time in years, Marin must confront her fears and, possibly, find love at the same time.
Meet Me in Paradise is a book that sits with you for awhile. You go into it thinking that you’re going to get a lighthearted romcom with all the feel good fuzzies you expect from a romance book. However, you would only be partially right. What Libby Hubscher has done in her debut novel, is given readers a look into what it means to confront loss head on. While also giving us something to root for, a chance at love and happiness after heartache.
I loved Meet Me in Paradise. It had me laughing and crying and generally flying through the pages to see what happened next. The book was slightly predictable in parts (what romance isn’t?) and I had to suspend belief a time or two at the events that transpired (again, what romance doesn’t have moments like that?). But, I still loved every minute of it. Marin is a wonderful character who I saw a lot of myself in, and I enjoyed the fact that she had the guts to make the decisions that she did in the end.
My biggest complaint about the book, though, was that the side characters could have used a bit more fleshing out. There were a lot of people popping into Marin’s world, people who I would have loved to know more about. Hopefully the author will give them their own books soon (fingers crossed and puppy dog eyes).
