The publisher’s blurb compares this book to Stephen King’s Children of the Corn, but to be honest, this is much creepier. Or maybe it just feel like that because it is set in a what was a small German village many years ago that was off the beaten track.
It is a coming of age story told from the perspective of four different characters who grew up in Hemmersmoor looking back on the events of their childhood. Events that include some really grim happenings - incest, murder, and arson to name a few.
It turns out this is not the kind of book I would review for my blog, but I actually thought the whole thing was very well done. Ironically, I found myself with lots of time on my hands after there was a fire in my building and I have to wait for repair people to come and clean up the water and smoke damage in my apartment, so I thought I would give this a try. I’m sorry it took me so long to read it, and all I can say it that if you are into a good horror story, this is the book for you.
