A gorgeous emotional rollercoaster of a read!
Fabulously written but I'd expect nothing less of Folbigg... Cannot wait to see what she writes next.
This was such an emotional book> I had a hard time with it, but because of where I am at the moment. The writing is good, which is why it drives home the sadness. If you go in knowing this, and not expecting a traditional romance, it's a good book to read.
This was a touching read about a man penning his and his wife's love story, while she is dying from cancer. Switching between past and present, the reader is shown how the two meet and get together, which ultimately has you getting invested into the book. The narration on the audio was great and I loved listening, however the only downside I had was that maybe the book was a little too long. If you aren't in the mood for a sad book, I'd recommend shelving this one for later but when you feel like a good cry, definitely pick this one up.
I couldn't get past the cancer angle... Being dumped right in, it made me super uncomfortable, mainly because I just battled cancer myself, and this required a trigger warning, imo, in the blurb, as it goes right into the heart of that suffering and I was not ready for that
Unfortunately, could not get into this book, although this could be entirely my view because of my health journey
This is a tear jerker which will really move most readers but it is also entertaining and sometimes funny. Not sentimental, it brings to life a real love story in the nicest way.
A brilliant read, I loved every single thing about it. The characters were all so enjoyable, I highly recommend.
This such a lovely, life affirming love story! It’s ultimately very sad, the husband is documenting their love story for their children because she’s got terminal cancer.
Don’t read this one without a box of tissues handy. 3.5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is one fantastic read. I absolutely loved this! Everything was just perfect, the characters, the location, just brilliant!
A beautiful and heartbreaking story of finding and holding onto love. The love story of Daniel and Olivia is wonderfully written and at times made me smile and also have tears running down my face. An inspiring story of life and love.
I enjoyed this book, quite an emotional one, so be prepared with tissues on standby!
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
I had really enjoyed Zoë’s previous novel, The Note so I was looking forward to reading her latest book, The Night We Met and being a part of the blog tour.
A special mention needs to be given to the cover. It’s so dreamy and pretty.
Daniel and Olivia are two people who are very easy to become invested in and attached to.
From the first page, I found their story compelling. It was an emotional rollercoaster. You will need tissues.
It is told from the point of view of both Daniel and Olivia as the former looks back on their lives and love story. It does time jump but it’s easy to keep up with.
Zoë has such a great talent for telling beautiful but realistic stories. This is the kind of novel I’d love to write. She is able to create relatable, likeable characters whilst still including conflict and the twists that life can throw at you.
This is all I am going to say. I don’t want to spoil this novel as I am hoping it’s one you’ll add to your TBR pile.
The Night We Met is a wonderful book about love, destiny and finding that one person. If you’re a fan of David Nichols or Paige Toon or are looking for an epic love story to fall in love with, then I recommend this book.
This is definitely one of my favourite books of the year so far. It’s a perfect escape and another great novel from Zoë Folbigg.
A lovely book that was quite heartbreaking in places - a little reminder that life is precious.
We follow the story of how Olivia and Daniel found each other on several chance encounters on the other side of the world, and now Daniel is writing and telling their story after Olivia is diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Throughout the book, there is an enjoyable mix of light heartedness with tenderness and happiness with sadness.
On the whole, I enjoyed this book and especially liked how the story was broken up with different times, years and places.
I honestly cried my heart out multiple times, and was completely suckered in from page 1. A beautiful and heartfelt story I would read again in a heartbeat.
A heartbreaking, but beautiful and well-written book.
As we can see in the blurb, this book tells us the story of two characters, Daniel and Olivia, as they met, and their lives before and after that moment. This book takes us to travel through different places and cities, in addition to reminding us of different times in history, sometimes from Daniel's perspective, others from Olivia's perspective, and I think that this dynamism was a key point to make of this story something beautiful and unique, that probably speaks to the soul of many.
The Night We Met by Zoë Folbigg is a sweeping novel of love made for fans of The Notebook. We begin at the end with Daniel holding his dying wife Olivia's hand. From there, we hear of a life led together - against all odds. It's a love story that was fated in their eyes that found its way across time and space.
I definitely enjoyed this story of "how they got there," but some readers may find sadness with the known ending of this one.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.
Lovely novel full of emotions like a rollercoaster.
The Night We Met is a gorgeous tale of love, life and second chances, one you will not want to miss
Big thank you to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for exchange of a honest opinion.
True epic love stories, that will stand the test of time, don't come around very often. But when they do, boy do they take your breath away.....this is certainly one of those moments. The Night We Met threw everything and more at me in terms of love and life and I'm still trying to process the effect that this book has had on me.
The story captures your heart from the word go and I instantly knew I was in for an emotional roller coaster that would end only in tissues. The beautiful narrative doesn't reveal its treasures in a linear format instead it is woven together by patchwork memories that create a blanket so rich in emotion that I was moved to tears. You can feel every tiny nuance of detail that the author carefully places to allow Olivia and Daniel's love to burst off the page with fierce strength and I felt myself being pulled further into their story with the turn of each and every page.
I don't want to talk about the story in any detail as that would spoil the way the narrative is played out, which is a big part of the beauty of this book. Everything you need to know is in the book blurb but I urge you to dive in and soak up every last drop that this story has to give. As someone who has come out the other side I can safely say that this is one journey you do not want to miss. The heart and soul laid bare between those pages is raw and ready to be experienced. So grab your tissues, take a deep breath and jump in.
The Night We Met is a stunning love story that traverses the test of time showcasing strength, resilience and hope and I for one am changed for having read it. I'm a huge Zoe fan and this book was everything and more. A true treasure that will capture the hearts and souls of every reader.
On emotional roller coaster from start to finish!
Daniel meets Olivia in Australia and feels an attraction like never before, only for her to disappear!
Serendipity plays a part and they eventually meet again.
The book takes us around the globe, travelling when we weren’t allowed, and is beautifully written making me laugh, feel good and cry in equal measures.
Their journey will stay with me for a long time.
2.5 stars - This is Daniel and Olivia’s story - how they met and what happened to bring them to this juncture. A bitter sweet and sad tale and one I fully expected to love, but didn’t, despite the great start. I didn’t care much for either of them. Olivia was incredibly selfish and Daniel was just a pest until he finally got the girl. There was too much packing and not enough about them. Constant mentions of “The Guardian” was boring and repetitive. It seemed that anything and everything that could happen did to this pair! I did like the way it was written which is why I finished it. Just an ok rating from me on this occasion.
This book begins with the news that the main characters wife is seriously ill - the rest of the book is a series of flashbacks to their relationship over the years - lovely and heartwarming in places - heartbreaking in others.
I'm afraid I found the book a little dull in places, over all it's a good book and I like the idea behind it.
I do love a Zoe Folbigg novel!
It was absolutely heart wrenching from beginning to end. I loved Daniel but I found I just couldn't warm to Olivia. The writing was fantastic though and the depth to the characters was extraordinary. Totally recommended but you will need a box of tissues!
