One sentence synopsis: As Daniel holds his frail wife, Olivia's hand, he recounts their serendipitous love story, which started while travelling overseas.

The Night We Met is a heartfelt novel made for fans of The Notebook. Switching between the past and present, we follow the pair as they meet, fall in love, separate and find themselves and each other again. I found it easy to follow the alternating timelines and I loved the different settings (from Australia to NZ and England). This book is a heartbreaking and emotional love story that I highly recommend.

The Night We Met is a an unexpected gift of a book; expecting more of a romantic comedy this is a luminous story of how little choices lead to second chances. On a backpacking trip to Australia, Daniel, who is known to be staid and more predictable, heads Down Under solo while his ex takes her new boyfriend on what was supposed to be "their" trip. Daniel spots a free spirited, eye-catching Olivia on a memorable night-for him. Daniel and Olivia keep crossing paths throughout the remainder of his trip and back in England, Daniel can only think of Olivia. How will he find the woman, in a city of millions, without even her last name? For those who question if fate exists, watch as the invisible hands bring together two strangers against all odds.

When the book opens up I did not expect the couple we meet to have taken such a journey to create the life we are given glimpses into. Zoe Folbigg cleverly weaves the most minute details together to create a love, a family, that will leave you cheering, laughing and yes-shedding a few tears. From the clubs in Australia to romantic dinners in Italy to exotic vacations-you will fall in love right along with the main characters.

It was very difficult for me to read this book, considering the moment we're currently living in the world. Every day we hear about so many deaths and we see the people we love struggling with pain and grief. I usually avoid books when I know that a main character is going to die, because that's a tough subject for me. Still, I wanted to read "The Night We Met", because it probably had a beautiful message and maybe somehow I'd be comforted by it too.

Daniel and Olivia were definitely destined to be together. Their love story is crazy, romantic, sad and inspiring at the same time. It's pretty clear since the first chapters that she's going to die, so don't take this as a spoiler. She asks Daniel to write a book, telling their story to their daughters. She wants them to know everything, since the day they met. Even though that's not an easy task, Daniel tries his best to fulfill her request.

For obvious reasons, I prefer the chapters about the past, when they were still getting to know each other and falling in love. If you believe in fate, get ready for some goosebumps. And if don't, you might start seeing second chances with different eyes.

I'm only giving it 3 stars because it was really emotional for me. Not in a way I was ready for. I have no plans of re-reading it so soon. But it's definitely a beautiful story.

You’ll remember Zoë Folbigg from her Amazon number-one bestseller The Note, based on the true story of how she met her husband on her daily commute. If you read The Note you’ll know that Zoe has a real gift for writing about realistic characters with pathos and a good deal of emotion.

Daniel keeps running into Olivia as they backpack across Australia. She is a bright light amid a sea of people but doesn’t appear to even notice Daniel but he is convinced that they should be together. Their paths continue to cross until one night Liv joins Daniel for a drink. That night changes their lives.

It is quite hard to review The Night We Met without giving away a huge chunk of the plot. It isn’t always the easiest read particularly if you have a sensitivity towards drug abuse, alcoholism or are recently bereaved. Despite and because of these caveats it is a fantastic read and one that will make you laugh and cry. We all deal with so much as part of our normal day to day lives and sitting back and following Liv and Daniel is surprisingly therapeutic.

I went into this expecting a rather light romance read but it's much more than that. I loved the flashbacks to when Daniel and Olivia first meet, as dual timelines are some of my favourite stories. It's a very emotional book but with a fantastic story.

The story of Olivia and Daniel, when I read the blurb I thought it was going to be a little more light on the rom-com side but I was very mistaken this is a very emotional journey.

Olivia has very little time left in her life or so that's what she thinks, she discovered she has a terrible tumor that is consuming her life, and that's when things started to change, she wanted to tell her story to let her children know how she met Daniel, how they became in love and form this amazing family, Daniel wasn't ready for this but life has a funny way to change your mind and so the story begins.

The story of Daniel and Olivia two souls that met a long time ago in the most unexpected situation and circumstances.. Olivia kept showing up all around Daniels's life until a drunken night where everything started to change. The Night We Met take us on a roller coaster of emotions laughs and situations they both went through during the period of time they met and now married with a family of their own. switching from past and present Daniel and Olivia show us their story little by little but at the same time making us very emotional and somehow preparing the reader for a sad revelation or conclusion.

The night we met is a second chance novel, a book that will give you hope and faith. that not everything is written, not even if we think that is the case, life always keeps giving us surprises especially at the worst moments of our lives and this book somehow made me feel this way like there is no tomorrow only the present moment to keep fighting for the ones you love, that the last thing you will ever lose is your strength and faith that everything is ok and will be ok.

one of my fav parts of this book was getting to read all the amazing places the main characters were taking us all around, it felt like we were experiencing the same feelings and moments with them.

Overall it was a good book, get ready to shed a few tears.

I honestly don’t know how to do this gorgeous tale justice. Zoe Folbigg sure is the queen of romance in the realest ways. When I was asked to be on the tour I jumped at the chance and suggested I would take part on my birthday which is today.

Daniel and Olivia’s paths cross a number of times before fate steps in. The story starts at the latter end of their story and with Olivia wanting Daniel to document their love story for their children. This was heartfelt and this meant that the story went back and forth from the present day to that of the back story of their life. I really enjoyed seeing how they came to be, although in saying that I liked Olivia a lot in the later stages towards the start I felt sorry for Daniel. He had already been through a rough old time with his previous girlfriend.

I loved everything about this novel, the traveling – especially when we can’t it was a multitude of wanderlust for my soul. The journalism – sports journalism is such a love for me. It’s what I studied and I’ve had experience in so it brought back some gorgeous memories and the buzz of a World Cup is just something. I also have to mention how Olivia shows you can be a working mother.

Olivia is such an interesting character and I found myself going through a multitude of emotions for her and about her. Although I can wholeheartedly see why she was the way she was at times. I found her empowering in when she realised that she was struggling – she fought her demons well and I think Zoe wrote this amazingly, I haven’t had those struggles but it would be heartwarming to someone who has.

The Night We Met is a gorgeous tale of love, life and second chances. The sense of family in the terms of blood and of good friends is apparent wholeheartedly in this novel. There are some heart wrenching moments but in knowing how this story feels I can say Zoë has done this with empathy and grace.

The Night We Met will pull you in and take you on an emotional rollercoaster leaving you wanting to hug those you love a little bit harder, and to say yes a little more to those events you may have swerved.

Dying from cancer Olivia asks Daniel to write the story of their love for their daughters. With Daniel recounting the first time they met to the series of missed chances and opportunities along the way. Whilst you know at the beginning that they get together, it still makes for an emotional read.

An emotional tour de force of a book that touches the heart and will tug at the heartstrings, Zoë Folbigg’s The Night We Met is a poignant and uplifting tale about the many twists of fate, the bonds that bind us together and the magic of falling head over heels in love with your soulmate.

When Daniel spots Olivia in a crowded room surrounded by people, he immediately realises that he has found the woman he is meant to be spending the rest of his life with. Olivia is absolutely perfect and although Daniel does not manage to get anywhere close to her on that fateful night when he sees her for the first time, he just knows that she is his destiny. Yet, fate seems keen to tear them asunder whenever they are in close proximity to one another. Daniel might be backpacking through Australia, but serendipity seems to delight in throwing the two of them together and when Olivia finally joins him for a drink one night everything changes…

But when Daniel comes back to London, he finds himself stuck in the same boring old routine. Monotony quickly sets in, but even at his lowest, he finds himself unable to forget the beautiful girl who had captured his heart with her green eyes and fiery hair. Realizing that he cannot let this chance at happiness slip through his fingers, Daniel will make the most of his last shot at finding his one true love. Armed with just a name and a lot of determination, Daniel vows to leave no stone unturned until he finally tracks down his soulmate. But with each passing day, the situation becomes more and more hopeless and desperate. Is Daniel kidding himself? Should he stop daydreaming and resign himself to his fate? Or should he trust his instincts and follow his heart?

Will Daniel and Olivia manage to find their way back to one another? Or is their story only just beginning?

Zoë Folbigg writes the kind of books you simply cannot stop reading and The Night We Met is no exception. A dramatic, heartfelt and magical read sprinkled with pathos and intensity, The Night We Met is a tale full of hope, humour and warmth that completely consumed me and made me fall in love with Daniel and Olivia and kept me turning the pages very late into the night.

A brilliant read that will break your heart and lift your spirits at the same time, Zoë Folbigg’s The Night We Met is an unmissable love story that is hard to put down and impossible to forget.

I have read and enjoyed some of Zoe’s other books so I was really looking forward to reading this one, however the structure of the storyline spoils it for me and as you know in the beginning what’s going to happen at the end and for me personally I then didn’t want to get too invested in the characters and then cry. And yes I did.

The Night We Met tells of the heartbreaking love story of Daniel and Olivia.

During her illness, Olivia asks Daniel to write about their life together for their daughters. As the book moves on, we flash back to their earlier years when they met on their travels and how they settled in to married and family life.

I honestly couldn't put this book down and read it quicker than I normally would read a book.

I will definitely be recommending this to friends and family to read.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book, in exchange for an honest review.

This is an emotive book, with serious and heart-breaking content that may make some readers feel upset or quite sensitive. The Night We Met is a novel about a woman dying from cancer that asks her husband to write their complete love story for their daughters.
Yes the premise of this book is so sad, heart-breaking when we realise there are children who are losing a parent far too young, but it is a book littered with love and the idea that true love will always find a way.
The book is written in the now but also through varying points in the past from multiple locations. It demonstrates the lives the characters have led and how they were always intertwined before they were even together. I quite enjoyed reading things from different perspectives, I think you really get to understand the character this way. It was easy to follow and so well written, you didn’t feel like you were jumping around too much but more like they were snapshots into the past. As our characters travels we are taken from Australia to New Zealand to Milan, London, Switzerland, it’s like we are on our own armchair travels too.
This is a beautiful read, one of those ultimate love stories that show how time and maturity is all that is needed sometimes. Folbigg gives us a read that shows how love can be “at first sight” even if it takes time to realise this.
I loved the characters, Olivia is a sparky, interesting young girl but matures into a passionate woman; Daniel is full of heart and falls completely for her. I loved him and felt so sorry for what they were going through.
This book will hook you in and take you on an emotional rollercoaster, a special tale of love, friendship and of families and the many ways they can be created.

Can a glance make you know that someone is destined for you? Daniel is on a backpacking journey and he sees Olivia , but does she notice him? Sometimes it takes courage and fate or kismet that puts you both in the right place at the right moment for you to meet and actually have a conversation!
However, Daniel & Olivia still face so many obstacles before they meet again.

The author has written a very stirring book that will keep you turning the pages and you wanting to know the characters so much more. The characters are strong and believable which makes this book so tantalizing.

I definitely would recommend this book to anyone looking for a book full of emotion!

I received a free advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

The Blurb :
Daniel and Olivia are destined to be together. At least, Daniel thinks this the night he sees Olivia across a sea of people. As he backpacks through Australia, Daniel and Liv continue to cross paths, yet never speak. Until one night, Liv joins Daniel for a drink. And that night everything changes.
Back in London, stuck in a monotonous routine, Daniel finds himself daydreaming of the woman with green eyes and fiery hair. Armed with only a name he vows to find her, yet with every passing moment, Daniel's hopes begin to disappear. What if it wasn't meant to be?
But then fate steps in, and Daniel and Olivia's story can truly begin...
This is a tale of serendipity, missed chances and the power of love.

My Thoughts :
From her hospital bed, dying of Cancer, Olivia wants husband Daniel to write down how they met and to document their love story for their two daughters Flora and Sofia to read about in the future.
As we travel to many places like New Zealand, Australia, Milan, Japan and London. We learn that fate kept putting them in the same places, and over time we learn of how they met, how they fell in love and then years later, fate again steps in and this time its for keeps.
Having loved Zoe Folbigg’s books before, this was also a great read. Each page will keep you wanting more and I found it hard to put down. The whole relationship between Olivia and Daniel was very refreshing and a delight to follow, jumping backwards and forwards through timelines over the years gave the story great depth. Just be ready for your emotions to be all over the place.
Looking forward to more from this Author.

Daniel and Olivia have spent their lives together and have lived all the experiences life can throw at them. Their lives have taken them all over the world and we share in their ups and downs.

I am now proud to say that I have reviewed all of Zoë Folbigg's novels, and enjoyed every single one of them. They are all heartfelt, realistic well written and gripping.

The Night We Met may sound like a romance, but it is not. It is more like a love story with raw moments, happy and sad parts and everything in between. The way Daniel recounted the story reminded me of one of my favourite books of all time, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. I really felt like I was going through their life with them. It was very immersive.

One of Zoë Folbigg's strengths is attention to detail and this was no exception. I was hooked from beginning to end.

Thanks to Zoë Folbigg and Aria & Aries for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was also asked to take part in the cover reveal for this title.

5 stars

The Night We Met is an emotional novel about a woman dying from cancer that has her husband write their love story for their daughters.

I really enjoyed The Night We Met. I had so many emotions while reading this book. The premise behind the story is very sad. The book has multiple time lines switching between past and present. The switching timelines were done well and made the story more interesting. I really enjoyed Daniel and Olivia. They are both struggling for different reasons when they meet. They were traveling in Australia and New Zealand and kept running into each other. Daniel instantly is attracted to Olivia, but Olivia is grieving so doesn’t feel the same way. Olivia has a unique family situation with two mothers. Daniel and Olivia both have to figure out what they want to do with their life and develop careers. The story spans from their first meeting, time spent apart, an unexpected reunion, marriage, and leading up to the present day. The Night We Met is heartbreaking in the best way.

Thank you Aria and NetGalley for The Night We Met.
