A story of a woman drove to madness while spying on emails of a coworker. It wasn't my favorite read of the year but also not the worst, it was just okay. Just didn't connect with the characters or the plot.

Just One Look grabbed me the moment I read the plot! As soon as I got this book in my hands, I couldn’t put it down. In slightly the same vein as You by Caroline Kepnes, it hooked me from the start. But unlike Joe in You, you weren’t quite sure what was going on with Cassie. There was a deliciously creepy slow-build to this book that kept me invested and dying to know what was going to happen. I felt like a voyeur, getting to read all the juicy bits that Cassie was becoming so obsessed with. There was quite a twist, and one that I didn’t figure out ahead of time - always a great thing! Overall I really enjoyed every aspect of this book. Highly recommend!!

This one was such a great surprise. This ended up being one of my fave of the year so far!

This one completely blew me away. I went into this one expecting an average thriller so it was a complete surprise how much I enjoyed this one. I adored the main character and her crazy out of control antics. I think Joe Goldberg fans will really enjoy this one. A great one to go into blind. I’ve seen a bunch of other amazing reviews for this one so if it’s not on your list, I am asking you to make sure you add it! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

This book is truly about a crazy stalker which is nor my favorite genre. I found it tedious at times. The main premise of this book is Cassie lost her job as an attorney, down on her luck and working as a temp reading emails. She becomes obsessed with emails from a prominent attorney to his wife. She begins to want their life. The problem for me is that there were long periods of time in this book with her going through boring emails. All in all the ending was well executed but I found myself skipping over these other emails. I want to thank net galley and the publisher for the ARC I received for an honest review. If you like stalker crazy women then this book is for you.

**Many thanks to NetGalley, Yewon Son at Random House-Ballantine, and Lindsay Cameron for an ARC of this book!!**

"But if there's one thing I knew about the truth it was this: It is highly overrated."

Cassie Woodson lives by this adage, weaving a narrative that suits her ambitions, muddies her past, and brings her one step closer to the glamorous life she so desperately craves after losing it all at her previous law firm, where she went from high-profile legal mind to YouTube infamy after getting fired and losing her cool. She takes a temp job at a law firm, sifting through email after email like a glorified robot, looking for keywords and trying not to let the mind-numbing boredom keep her captive...

…Until HE catches her eye. The successful, sophisticated, and sexy Forrest Watts and his glamorous wife Annabelle. Cassie has no idea how the personal emails of this power duo have ended up in her queue, but the more she learns about them, the more she is desperate to discover and devotes every second of spare time (and every spare drop of coffee and alcohol) to finding out everything there is to know about these two. Of course, with a little work, she can BECOME the spitting image of Annabelle, put herself right in Forrest's path and let the 'magic' happen.. You see, her future is set: she WILL become Forest's girlfriend and get all that she ever desired. The stars in Cassie's eyes won't dim, even with the discovery of much more than she bargained for...but can she focus long enough to keep her plethora of lies straight, to forgive herself for her past...and even to survive?

Cameron's Just One Look sparks the obvious comparisons to Caroline Kepnes' YOU, but this novel is drastically different in that our protagonist is running from her past and sees Forrest as an escape hatch into the life she feels she still deserves. Where the novels coincide, however, is the level of stalking: I mean, Cassie gets into email passwords, and even has a binder where she keeps every detail she learns about Forrest neatly documented. Because she LOVES him...in her own twisted way. While this obsessive behavior fits the character and her desperate need for approval from the world at large, certain aspects of her stalking require a pretty significant suspension of disbelief. We get glimpses into Cassie's past as the story progresses in the form of old texts and emails from family and other people in Cassie's circle, but we don't get the REAL story until the novel is almost over, where things take a bit of a left turn from thriller territory into drama. This resolves itself neatly by the end of the story, but I personally still had plenty of questions.

First and foremost, how did everyone make it so EASY for Cassie to stalk Forrest at this level? With the type of security protocols in place today pretty much everywhere, even someone as sharp as Cassie needed the compliance of every secondary player to make her schemes work. That's okay: this IS fiction, and lots of fun, but I would strongly recommend keeping suspension of disbelief at the forefront of your mind while reading. Kepnes' Joe Goldberg just was more of a self-made stalker I suppose, relying on no man or woman to make his crimes function, and there is something charming about that (in a bizarre way!) Cassie's self-doubt makes this plot work, however, so to each stalker, his or her own!

There is also one fairly major plot hole hanging over my head even after completing this book, but this doesn't keep the finale from being exciting and pulse-pounding, so for my own enjoyment I chose to ignore it. I loved Cameron's ending and though it doesn't necessarily broach uncharted territory, it was a gratifying end and gave the reader plenty of fodder for speculation, which I always personally enjoy. I also loved getting to know Cassie (as crazy as she was!) and I felt like I knew her...a little TOO well!

Just One Look is a fantastic first foray into the world of suspense for author Lindsay Cameron, encapsulating the creepy stalker vibes and taking the reader deep into the mind of an obsessed and unbalanced insecure Single White Female that will slake the thirst of fans of the genre! I'm sure this author has some fabulous ideas brewing in her mind and I am already looking forward to her next book!

Well yes, Cassie is certainly unhinged. Stalker and obsessive to the extreme. She is a lawyer, fired from her previous job after an unnamed incident. Currently working as a law temp doing document review in a basement with a bunch of others. When she comes across some personal emails between Forest, one of the firm's lawyers, and his wife Annabelle. She quickly becomes maniacal about knowing more and more about the couple and spends hours searching for every tidbit of information so she can emulate this ideal romantic relationship. Yet, when she finds out that the couple might no longer be together, Cassie sets out to discover what happened and why.

I started off not liking Cassie at all. She creeped me out with her utter obsession. This book makes Delta Dawn in The Photographer almost seem tame in comparison--Cassie keeps a dossier, stalks both Forest and Anabelle everywhere she can, buys the same products so that she can be just like them. However, as the story progressed, I started rooting for Cassie's success. Not with her stalking, but to pull herself out of the hole she was in and embrace her life and the people in it who wanted to know her. There are a couple of excellent twists, but overall this isn't anything super groundbreaking. I feel like parts of this are super familiar (like the aforementioned The Photographer, but also The Perfect Ruin that I just finished) maybe I'm just burned out on crazy/revenge characters at the moment.

Overall this is a worthwhile, fast-paced read if you're looking for a bit of a thriller with an obsessive stalker vibe.

DNF @ 20%. I signed up for the drama, but what I've gotten so far is a lot of meal time descriptions and interactions about what wine to pick up. :( I'm sure it will pick up towards the end, but I was really hoping for some juicy drama throughout, so I'll go ahead and cut my losses here.

Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron
This debut suspense novel will have you staying up late to read. It will also have you changing your passwords and looking over your shoulder. From zero to stalker just like that.
Great read you won’t want to put down!

When Cassie starts a temp job at a law firm, she inadvertently sees emails from Forest Watts to his wife Annabelle. She soon becomes fixated on the couple, learning everything she can about them. Stalking them, obsessing about their life. Changing hers to be like theirs. Then one day she meets Forest and everything changes! She sees an opening and sets out to make him hers! With a complicated past, Cassie just wants someone to love and to love her in return, but has she taken it a step too far. Will her lies catch up with her, but most importantly, is Forest too good to be true? A fast paced psychological thriller with an unhinged narrator made this a very good read!

It has been a really really long time since I have read a thriller that successfully caught me off guard. Lindsay Cameron was able to actually shock me with a plot twist that I did not see coming and after having read about a million mystery/thriller novels in my lifetime, I didn't think that was still possible.

I went into this thinking I was going to get the female version of Joe Goldberg, and while I can see where there are some DEFINITE similarities between Cassie and Joe, this was definitely still it's own story and did not feel like it was just that. Cassie has her own issues, mostly stemming from abandonment and she is definitely a bit on the crazy side, but I sure did feel for her in the end. I might have even managed to get some secondhand anxiety while reading this.

Overall, this thriller surprised me! I enjoyed it a bit more than I expected to.

As a thriller lover and a lawyer, I loved this book. Seriously, how did Cameron make doc review interesting? Cassie makes poor decisions and you'll probably spend the entire book shaking her head at her but she's an intriguing character and the entire book is so thrilling. The side characters are great also. This is the first book I've read by Cameron but I'm definitely down to read more. Thanks for the advance review copy.

Cassie Woodson was once a rising star in her law firm, until a viral incident ruined her career. Now forced to make ends meet, she takes a job as a temp at another law firm, reviewing documents pertaining to a pending lawsuit. It is here that she develops a disturbing fixation on a top lawyer at the firm and begins stalking him and his wife’s seemingly, perfect life.

Just One Looks will appeal to fans of the You series, with the exception that Joe’s humorous wit is missing. Whereas I usually found myself inexplicably rooting for Joe Goldberg, I did not find Cassie in the least bit, a likeable character. This novel is narrated from Cassie's point-of-view and is a long, slow burn, but far from boring and I could not keep from turning the pages. I wouldn’t necessarily categorize Cassie as an unreliable narrator but as the book progresses, the reader uncovers details that shed light on her current situation.

Also, as it is a thriller, you can expect a twist, but it’s not hard to see where the book is heading midway through. I would say I enjoyed the majority of the book but I was expecting the ending to deliver a bigger payout, and a bit of groundwork should have been laid out earlier, as I was in the dark about one of the character’s mindset.

I want to point out one thing that bothered me and it was a reference to Pablo Escober towards the end. As a person of Colombian descent, I found the reference gratuitous and nonsensical.

Cassie Woodson had a great job as an attorney with a prestigious firm until one day she lost her temper resulting in her being fired.

Today, she is reduced to accepting a temp job for a law office where she will be searching for information on a case they are working on which means she will be reviewing both internal and external emails of the company. She works with a group of other temps in a tiny room with two short bathroom breaks allowed per shift and 30 minutes for meals.

Before long, she becomes fascinated with some emails from one of the attorneys to his wife and from there begins an obsession with them that takes over her life. The couple appears to have a good marriage and Cassie wants that for herself. Her fixation results in her finding all she can about them so she can become the woman that he will want instead of his wife.

Whew. This book is intense and I found myself absolutely appalled that anyone would do this. But when you have no other life, I can see why it could occur. Through much of the book I felt like I wanted to distance myself from this nutcase, but I also wanted to finish the book. I’m certainly glad I did. Just remember that when you open a can of worms, you never know what kinds of nasty you may find inside. If you are interested in learning how some lonely people live, and let’s hope it’s a small amount, read this book. Enjoy this debut novel. It’s well done.

I think its human nature to sometimes look at things we shouldn't . How many of us would read e-mails that are not intended for us? I know that I can definitely say that the temptation would definitely cause me to go against my better judgment.

Just One Look, was an easy read. The chapters flowed, the character development was on point and the ending definitely provided closure. I really enjoyed Cassie, and felt like I knew her on a personal level.

This was my first novel by Lindsay Cameron and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I would recommend that this be on everyone's to be read shelf!

Her fall from grace, "the incident", childhood abandonment and a slew of other issues related to Cassie's mental state make her a great lead in a psychological thriller. Fast paced, but at the same time a hard read, when we enter her current life in an airless, windowless, entry level job and the beginning of her stalking for a better life. She is a scary character, but you also have to feel sorry for her.

Happy pub day to Just One Look - thank you to Ballantine Books for granting my NetGalley wish and providing an ARC!

Cassie Woodson has hit rock bottom. Her promising law career went up in flames and now she's a temp doing hours of mindless document review. But it's not all mindless - she gets a window into the inbox of the suave Forest Watts and falls head over heels for him. Can she make his life her reality?

Oh, Cassie. Have you not seen Fatal Attraction? This movie does not end well for anyone. But I have to say, watching Cassie wreck her life kept me entertained, even if I really could not understand why she was so into Forest. The plot had some twists I didn't expect as well as an ending I didn't see coming.

I think this is a solid but not amazing thriller (somewhere around 3.5 stars) - if you like obsession stories like Caroline Kepnes' You, this may be a good fit. It's certainly a quick read that will distract you from everyday life!

Full of wicked twists, Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron is a superb psychological thriller. With a down on her luck and stalkerish female main character, this read will hook you in. #JustOneLook #NetGalley

I have a soft spot for cra-cra crazy women in my books. Cassie Woodson is definitely one of those women, but instead of wanting to hiss at her I felt really sorry for her. A difficult bar for Lindsay Cameron but one she navigates beautifully in this different psychological thriller. Grief and circumstance lead many of us to do unexpected things -fortunately many of us work through our issues until we come out stronger on the other side. Not our Cassie, her demons drive her, they change her, they derange her. And everyone around her, or at least the important ones. She is a stalker. A brilliant one. A dangerous one. Excellent writing here, really good plotting and a five star read.
