Wow, simultaneously creepy and intriguing which makes for an interesting read for sure!! Part of me wanted to cringe away from the main character but at the same time I felt a magnetic pull needing to know more about her. And the twist at the end, I love when I don’t see it coming!! Definitely not your average obsession story, I’ll be recommending this one far and wide!!
4.5 stars!!

CRAZY STALKER ALERT!!!

A woman with some serious abandonment issues finds herself spiralling down the rabbit hole of obsession when she comes across e-mails between a top lawyer at the law firm she works at and his wife.

Cassie Woodson is struggling. Recently laid off from her job as a lawyer, she is forced to take a job working as a temp sifting through emails. Her dreary days are suddenly marked with excitement when she comes across emails between Forest Watts, a lawyer at the firm, and his wife Annabelle. Cassie, whose mother abandoned her when she was little, has always struggled with her own sense of self worth and whether true love exists.

As Cassie dives deeper and deeper into the Watts' relationship, she ends up growing more and more obsessed until she decides that she wants Forest for herself.

But not everything is as it seems in this book...

Get ready for a page-turner that's disturbing and extra twisty! My journey through Cassie Woodson's mind was both captivating and frightening, while also gaining my sympathy at times. There was no putting this one down until I had reached the conclusion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ballantine Books for access to this arc.

“Just One Look Couldn’t Hurt.”

This is the perfect read for admirers of “obsession” thrillers. I knew where the story was going (I encountered the same “reveal” in another recent thriller, so it crossed my mind once I was a few pages in), but it was very well-written and might appeal to fans of Caroline Kepnes’ YOU books.

Just because Cassie Woodson spectacularly lost her job, doesn't mean she deserved it. I mean look at Cassie now, using her once-prized law degree as a temporary worker. She has hidden in her apartment for the last six months, but her bank account is low, and how bad could it be reviewing documents for the legal firm of Levy & Strong. It isn't as if her last employer handed her a letter of recommendation when they oh so politely asked her never to return.
The job is mind-numbing and a humiliating step to the bottom of the corporate ladder. But suddenly, it seems like someone is smiling at Cassie. Personal emails from the corporate lawyers upstairs start showing up mixed in with the documents. Forest Watts is a partner and his emails are full of details about his life. His perfect wealthy life and his perfect marriage to the beautiful and well-bred Annabelle.
Cassie is thrilled! The girl who has nothing now has an up-close and personal view of Forest and Annabelle's world. Pretty soon she is obsessed with everything about them until she discovers that she might have the chance to be part of only Forest's world. Could Cassie finally be getting everything she deserves?
Umm, creepy, obsessive, and more than slightly dangerous come to mind when describing Cassie. Details of her life are revealed little by little, and while I felt sorry for her at times, it never lasted. More than once I wanted to yell 'run' at every single person she looked at for more than a split second.
Did I think Just One Look would end well? No, I did not. Did I imagine what life in Cassie's world would become? No, I did not. A sharply written, twisted tale of obsession, and if this doesn't make you think twice about what your emails and social media presence reveal, nothing will. Loved it! Beach read approved! 4.5 stars.

I received an advance copy of, Just One Look, by Lindsay Cameron. I found this book a bit too dark. Others might like it.

Confession: I read this entirely in one sitting.

I loved Just One Look for so many reasons. The summary is intriguing, but only scratches the surface at the real plot. No spoilers here, but there are a lot of other elements at play that really make this story interesting. I read a lot of thrillers, and it's tough to find ones that have a fresh spin on the genre, and this one felt original.

The gripping pace of the book is especially impressive given that there aren't that many characters and the protagonist's job is incredibly dull. Despite all of that, there's a ton of suspense packed in here. I really hope the author continues to write thrillers, as I will definitely read her next one.

Cassie Woodson has some serious mental health issues and she is taking her stalking of a lawyer, who works in her building , and his wife very seriously. She knows a new life awaits her and nothing will get in her way. This is a very easy, fast-paced, and compelling read that kept my attention from beginning to end. Highly recommend!

I got female Joe Goldberg from “You” vibes from this one and I think the suspense built quite well throughout. I do think the connection between characters that led to the twist ending seemed a bit too convenient, but I think the epilogue wrapped it up nicely overall. Definitely will check out more from this author.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley and Ballantine Books for allowing me to read an ARC of Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron. What a well-written book! When I had to put it down, I couldn't wait to get back to it, It was easy to keep reading.
The story was really good - Cassie was a kind of deranged so I never knew what was going to happen next. The book was a good reminder to keep your social media accounts locked down! And i had no clue how te book was going to end, and when it did. wow!

It was interesting that I usually have to like at least one character to love the book, but in this case I didn't connect to any of the characters, and I still enjoyed the book.

Cassie was so troubled! The amount of OTC drugs she took was astounding and probably contributed to her mental state. Maybe the book showed she took too many pills at at a time. Also who works from 8:30 am to 8 pm with lunch and dinner included as a temp? That was totally unrealistic.

Cassie Woodson lost it all. Her career, her dad, and Landon. She was now working a temporary job at a law firm and has now fixated on the seemingly perfect Lawyer who works there and his wife. What could else could possibly go wrong?

Wow! Well, I was not expecting that! This book was was so much fun. Cassie’s perspective was enjoyable to read. It was so interesting to read a book from the perspective of the crazy person rather than the “sane” person they are stalking! I LOVED it!

At first, the book didn’t feel like a thriller. We have the thoughts of Cassie right there at our finger tips, nothing felt like a surprise. I then came to find out how wrong I was. This book should be in a genre of its own, so beyond unique and entertaining.

You will NOT guess the ending. You should 10/10 read this book. You won’t regret it.

This book has the scariest premise. The idea of a voyeur looking at your life and deciding they want it. In a world full of social media where our lives are becoming more visible the story has never been more timely. A fast paced and realistic thriller!

“Eyes aren’t the windows to the soul. Emails are.”

Cassie Woodson is adrift. After being fired and embarrassed at her previous employer she takes a temp position. The daily struggle reminds her how lacking, lonely and sad she is.
While sorting through a relentless deluge of emails, something catches her eye: the personal emails from a partner at the firm, Forest Watts, and his enchanting wife, Annabelle. Cassie knows she shouldn’t read them. She just takes a peak and becomes hooked.

Unbeknownst to Forest, Cassie is reading his emails between his loving wife daily. Cassie soon has something to focus on and look forward to. She feels like she’s apart of their lives and secrets, well almost. When Cassie orchestrates a “chance” meeting with Forest in the real world and sees something that throws the state of his marriage into question, her fantasy shatters. Suddenly, she doesn’t simply admire Annabelle, she wants to take her place and she knows just the right secrets to do so.

This book is a cross between You and Girl on the Train. At first I thought, oh gosh not another cuckoo for coco puffs, drunk female character and then 💥 BAM! This takes a turn. Lindsay Cameron brings the suspense (and for her debut ..girl!) and the fast paced nail biting feeling you want in a book. Cassie is a multi faced and sympathetic heroine. You can’t help rooting for. As she starts to unravel you can’t help but feel the doom. It really shows the dangers we can face without our knowledge in the digital age. Make sure you are changing passwords regularly people!

Thank you so much Netgalley and Ballantine Books for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

Well! Here’s my story folks: my wish came true: I grabbed my arc, my hands, my mind, my eyes stayed glued to it, I wanted to take coffee, heavy booze, meal, munchies breaks, but I couldn’t! I kept on reading! I also had to finish my writing assignment, cooking ( kidding) I mean ordering take out, cleaning ( kidding again, they’re my husband dearest’s responsibilities) , opening door ( yes, husband dearest forgot his key and I didn’t open the door because the book was way too much interesting to put it down, so eventually husband dearest found a great locksmith, shared a take out with him from my favorite Thai place to punish me!) but as I mentioned before the book was too addictive to leave behind and I finished it at the same day I got!

Interesting fact about the book is making us sympathize with an anti heroine who reminds us of female version You’s Joe Goldberg. She also suffers from deep family issues, dysfunctional relationship issues, trust issues, feeling unloved, uncared, losing control at the work place: yes, all the problems of hers are similar with dear Joe and the most common thing between them: they’re highly achieved, skillful stalkers! And interestingly as we take a tour on their minds, connecting with their inner turmoils, witnessing their sharp wit, sarcasm, differentiated approach to the events, we start to feel for them and we’d like to see their HEAs!

In the beginning of the book, we’re quickly introduced to Cassie Woodson who is starting her not so desirable new job: making $25 an hour at temporary job reviewing correspondence for a large scale fraud suit.

We understand that something traumatic happened at her last work place, a real scandal which ruins her promising career at a law firm and forces her looking behind her back, laying low not to be recognized by anyone.

Now she’s trapped in an airless, soulless, claustrophobic office place, clicking her mouse, reading hundreds of correspondences, getting closer to find hundreds way of killing herself. That depressive workplace truly worsens her depressed mood. Thankfully she finds a geeky, sarcastic friend Dalton who helps her getting through the day. Maybe this guy is the only real friend of her for years.

As we get snippets from her past, we learn her mother abandoned her after suffering from postpartum depression and her father was the only person she could connect with. We also find out she can be really intense and had a traumatic breakup with her last boyfriend which ended disastrously.

Now her ultra boring, soul sucking job gets interesting when she starts reading one of the corporate associates intimate correspondences with his wife: Forest Watts and his enchanting wife Annabelle’s emails become highlight of her days.

She starts connecting with the happy couple, stalking them on social media, digging up everything about their privileged lives and experiencing things they’ve been doing in their daily lives (ordering same shampoo, perfume with Annabelle, drinking the same experience wine, hanging out the places they go) But one day she finds out maybe their so called perfect couple life is not so great and she can replace Annabelle if she wants. She can be anyone she’d dreamed of, can’t she?

Well, this book is surprisingly intriguing, fast pacing, razor sharp witty, fresh, unique, original!

Sometimes things never like as it seems. An antiheroine can turn into a good hearted but broken heroine as the good guys may turn into a villains in one click!

It’s thought provoking criticism of social media and its destructive effects and invasion of privacy.

Especially last third with its increasing high tension was mind blowing and truly exciting, twisty, extra smart!

No more words! I’m so glad to announce we have a new brilliant debut author at the thriller town and I look forward to read her future works!
She earned five conspiracy, surprising, stalking, obsessed, exciting, addictive five stars with this remarkable work!

Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group/ Ballantine Books for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.

Just One Look had me reading through my fingers because my hands were covering my eyes the whole time! It’s so cringe and uncomfortable to read the creep-factor that is Cassie Woodson. And yet I felt empathetic and protective toward her at the same time. I was so afraid it wouldn’t live up to my hopes and expectations because I was OBSESSED with getting my hands on this book from the first time I read the little blurb. (Maybe I have more in common with Miss Cassie than I thought!) I hope Lindsay Cameron writes more thrillers because I’ll snatch them up every time! I wish I could give more than 5 stars but that’s all they’re letting me give. You NEED to read this book!!!

Huge thanks to Ballantine and NetGalley for allowing me the privilege of reading this book in advance in exchange for my honest review!

Cassie Woodson is stuck in a dead end temp job, a big step down from the high powered corporate job she used to have. Bored and aimless, she decides to take a peek at an email exchange between Forest Watts, a partner at the firm, and his seemingly perfect wife, Annabelle. Now, Cassie is hooked, she loves to read the daily loving exchanges between husband and wife. She can easily see herself in Annabelle’s role. And before long she decides reading about someone else’s life is no longer enough; she arranges a meeting with Forest, intending to claim Annabelle’s place, no matter what the cost
