I’ve loved this whole series...and this one didn’t disappoint! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Such a fun, intriguing, whodunit book...kept me engaged from beginning to end!
Piece of My Heart is the last book in the Under Suspicion series. I found the plot to move very slowly and at times seemed repetitive. There were some unexpected twists to the plot and as always with a Mary Higgins Clark book the relationships were interesting.
This is the first Under Suspicion book I have read. While there was clearly history I was missing, the authors gave me enough information so I did not feel lost. Piece of My Heart is an emotional story with a couple of twists and turns you would expect from MHC. I did not love the ending, but did enjoy the book.
Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the advanced copy of Piece of My Heart..
Mary Higgins Clark is one of my favorite authors. This book was a suspenseful story with many twists and turns . The characters from her previous books were very likeable . The story line about a missing child tugged at your heartstrings and the prcocess of solving this mystery was very complicated but a worthwhile ending !
I am so sad about the passing of Mary Higgins Clark and will miss her writing. I am a huge fan of Laurie Moran and her fiancée, Alex Buckley. The two of them are a few days away from their wedding. As the family gathers for the wedding, Alex’s seven-year-old nephew, Johnny, vanishes from the beach. There are search parties and witnesses recall Johnny playing but he has just disappeared. Laurie works to find out what happened to Johnny and to bring him back to his family. This is a classic Higgins books.
This collaboration created great characters and a fast read. Laurie is ready to marry a newly appointed federal judge Alex, when his nephew disappears. The stage is set. Laurie’s father is a retired NYPD detective who suspects a kidnapping. The story is full of twists and turns and will keep you turning the pages and update at night. This will give you hours of reading pleasure.
Although I’ve read several books by Mary Higgins Clark I had not read anything by Alafair Burke so I wasn’t sure what to expect but I did enjoy this book and will be looking for more books in the series
This was the first book I’ve read on this series. I decided to read it because I’ve enjoyed books both authors and was interested in reading the collaboration. I found the plot to be fast-paced and intriguing. Although this is number 7 in the series and there was a lot of backstory, it successfully works as a stand-alone too. I look forward to reading more by these two authors.
A destination wedding between famous people is approaching. The closest family members arrive early and a child is kidnapped. People separate as they try to locate who kidnapped the child and then unite to rescue said child and tie the story up with a bow.
Once upon a time, my go-to writer for outstanding mystery and suspense books were written by MHC. A master of her craft with ‘Where Are the Children’ and ‘A Stranger is Watching’, I couldn’t get my hands on her new books fast enough. Somewhere along the way, they became too formulaic. Alafair Burke has done an admirable job of collaborating with MHC on the "Under Suspicion Series", but it has come time for me to reread MHC’s classics and move on.
A life held in the balance. A tangle of conflicts whose stories come to the surface after the kidnapping of a seven year led nephew from a family gathered to celebrate a wedding. This is the premise from the last offering of Ms Clark and her longtime collaborator. It is taut , it grips you not only as a parent but as anyone left to supervise a small child. It’s is primal and all the adults take turns on the “what if” stage. Throughout you hope for the sun to appear and all be right with the world. Well readers buckle up because it doesn’t let up till the end.
Loved this, and reminded me so much why I first fell in love with Mary Higgins Clark's books in HS. The formula is pretty much the same: compelling characters, plot twists, red herrings, but the writing remains spot on.
I have also enjoyed Burke's novels, so loved it when they paired up. MHC will be truly missed, but it is nice to know there will be similar novels in our future.
I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed are actually my mother's, who was delighted to get to read this early! Happy birthday, Mom!
This is another classic Mary Higgins Clark title! Suspense, romance, and whodunnit, in true Mary Higgins Clark Style. It was an easy, enjoyable read!
Another good edition to the Under Suspicion series. Mary Higgins Clark really knew how to spin a tale. I wonder if "Piece of My Heart" will be the final book or if Alafair Burke will continue writing them solo now that Clark has passed.
The families of Laurie Moran and Alex Buckley are gathering in the Hamptons to celebrate Laurie and Alex’s wedding. But, instead, they find themselves racing against the clock to locate the missing son of Alex’s brother and his wife.
Piece of My Heart is the latest book in a series that has been written by the “Queen of Suspense” Mary Higgins Clark and in collaboration with Alafair Burke. Pieces of My Heart is a typical Clark book, with multiple characters and several storylines. In some instances the story moved a bit slowly and some portions became a bit repetitive. But, it is also well-crafted and all the moving parts are resolved in the end. This book would be a good, easy read for a day at the beach or on a long trip.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.
Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke have written an engaging and hard to put down book that catches us up with Laurie, Timmy, and their family. Masterfully presented and a pleasure to read.
I received an advance, complimentary copy of Piece of My Heart from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was interesting enough. It was slow, however. There were some great parts and the storyline really was well planned out, but there was a lot to weed through to get to those parts. (This was the first Mary Higgins Clark book I had read and if this book is any indication of what the others are like, I think I will pass. It just didn't really draw me in--took me much longer to read than most books.)
Piece of My Heart is by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke and their sixth collaboration. Laurie Moran's husband had been killed and she and her son, Timmy lived in fear for years, but all that was past now. Alex Buckley, a former defense attorney and now a judge, had stolen her heart and they were about to be married. His brother and family were coming, and her dad, Leo, to celebrate Alex's 40th birthday and then the wedding. All was well. The two couples were golfing; Leo and Timmy were out shopping for a gift for Alex; Kara, Laurie's long-time babysitter had the twins; and Kara's friend, Ashley had Johnny at the ice cream stand. All of a sudden, Johnny was gone. The nightmare had begun.
Laurie, being the produce of a true crime series for television had resources. Leo, her dad, was a semi-retired cop who was the brunt of an investigation regarding malfeasance in a twenty-year-old case. Were they connected? Laurie could use the show to find out. See if she could help find Johnny. Days went by. Clues came together. Everyone knew the longer it took to find Johnny, the chance of him being found alive, or at all, lessened.
This was a gripping story of lives gone bad, innocently. Kidnapping a child was a gruesome crime, but it was not the only crime that happened to these people. It is the story of the search for a missing child, of the heartbreak involved. It is masterfully told. It is also the story of naïveté, of desperation, of love. Stories like this happen in this country every day. Many are never resolved at all. Many are never resolved happily. These were powerful people. That didn't help. They were still at the mercy of a kidnapper. Day by day. Step by step. Never certain they would find Johnny. And poor Johnny, in the hands of a crazy person. He did not understand what was happening to him but her clung to the things he knew. This book is an amazing piece of work. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of Piece of My Heart by Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #pieceofmyheart
Everyone is ready to celebrate a weekend beach wedding until the worst happens. A young boy disappears. There is no trace of the boy and no apparent motive. I enjoyed this story and trying to figure out who kidnapped the young boy. The trail to the kidnapper led us on a wild goose chase several times. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
A family gathers for a weekend at the beach for a big wedding, but instead of joy, the worst happens. A little boy is kidnapped, and his family must race against the clock to save him.
As the investigation progresses, old secrets and demons come to light. Old vendettas are examined, and unimaginable twists lead the characters in a variety of directions. Some of these are unexpected and seem to send the characters on wild goose chases.
The book is fast paced and smart. I couldn't stop reading.
I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke, who likes crime novels and psychological thrillers, and who just plain old enjoys a good book.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
Piece of My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke is the seventh book in the Under Suspicion series, but it is the first book I've read in the series. Laurie Moran is supposed to get married in just a few days, but her fiancee's nephew goes missing. This suspense/thriller kept me interested, so much so that I've already gone back to read more books in this series. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.
