This poetry collection definitely had some gems and the writing was beautiful. It took my breath away a few times.
It wasn’t my favourite collection of all time but it was still super enjoyable and I connected with quite a few of the poems.
Overall, I really liked this poem collection and would recommend it to anyone looking to try or needing a new poetry recommendation.
3.5/5 🌟
I am always happy to read a new Lang Leav poetry collection. And,as always, this newest one,September Love, did not disappoint. There is just something about her writing that hits me like no one else can. Even the small poems that are just a few lines have an impact on me. I feel like there wasn't a poem here that I didn't enjoy, but I especially liked the ones on writing.
Huge thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Love everything she writes. I was so excited to read this and it didn’t disappoint! Always honest and true and something for everyone.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. Unfortunately, I do not have the capability to read this book in the protected pdf format. Thank you.
I definitely took down notes when it came to advice and insights on writing while reading this collection and who knew that you could start off with February and make December but a month and not the end of the world?
My favorite has to be Limbo because it reminded me of who I am, of how much I lose when I lie in wait for another.
Thanks Netgalley for the eARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy.
I have mostly enjoyed Lang Leav's previous collections but the pieces within them can definitely be hit or miss. There are always some pieces I connect with and love and some that just fall incredibly flat. This collection is the same, but I feel that September Love shows growth and development in her skill. Even the simpler pieces are quite lovely. I very much enjoyed this one.
I've been a fan of this author for several years since I first discovered her work on Tumblr. I usually devour her books within one day but I had to force myself to finish this one. This book felt like she was trying to be different from her other work but not too different, and it ends up coming off as just more of the same but it doesn't quite have the emotional impact of her earlier work. That isn't to say that the entire book is a miss, though. "September Love" (the first piece which shares the name of the book) and "Twenty Nineteen" were quite good. But overall I felt very underwhelmed by this book.
This is my first time reading Lang Leav's work. I remembered reading her poem all over the social media, but I never got tolhe opportunity to read her published collection.
I am glad that I am given the opportunity.
September Love is a hope embeds within sadness and darkness that ones feeling. It is strangely comforting to know that the feeling that we had, the choice we have made which might appear as selfish to others — is not an alien feeling. Other people are experiencing it too. It is strange how a few lines of poem could have make me ponder for a long time before digesting them.
September Love feels like a collection that does not only provide comfort, but a stern stance about her view on writing in particular. There are many pieces that addresses, appear to me like a reaction towards people criticism against her style of poetry-writing.
I like it a lot.
I found some of the poems in this book incredibly relatable. Some I stopped and read again or wanted to savor and reflect on. For example, the poem "Only So Much" made me recall personal experiences, used figurative language well, and had a nice buildup to a powerful ending. For the most part, however, I felt that this book left something to be desired. I love a really short poem when done well, when the author packs a lot of meaning or metaphor into a small space and it punches you in the gut, but the really short poems in this book didn't do that for me. I wanted them to be profound--and maybe for some people they are--but they missed the mark for me. With poetry, I like to be able to unpack something, whether it's a hidden meaning or unexpected metaphor or use of figurative language, but I felt like most of these poems were very straightforward, and did less showing than telling. Again, that is probably what a lot of readers like, but just isn't my style.
I like reading poetry books. I will admit that it isn’t my favourite genre but I like trying to dissect and understand poetry. What I find from personal collections is that they can sometimes be a little self indulgent especially if the writer is a little green. Lang Leav’s latest collection September Love shows a writer in her prime, a writer who knows who she is and produces work that is readable, enjoyable and that doesn’t seem like it is just word regurgitation on a page.
September Love is a stunning collection. Personally, I preferred her free verse but the collection as a whole is very accomplished.
September Love by Lang Leav is available now.

Lang Leav's poetry collection can be a hit or miss for me and this one here didn't unfortunately meet my taste. I was expecting a lot more from these poems, but I really could not connect with most of them. Also, I believe that the same themes were used over and over again which is something I didn't particularly enjoy.
I've heard of Lang Leav before, but this is the first time I've read anything by her. I liked this collection but I'll admit that it didn't really stir me in a way some of the other modern poetry volumes have. It's a good book - just not the greatest.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC of the book.

A lot fo these poems were just average for me. Out of all of them, only one of them really resonated with me. I normally like modern poetry, but that was just not the case here. I've liked some of this author's work in the past and am kind of disappointed to not like this one.
I decided to give this book a go despite not being a huge fan of the author's poetry.
Reading the collection was therapeutic - there were some beautiful poetry and proses.
However, the book leaves no lasting impression. There is no wow factor. I was quite disappointed.
Overall, a good read nonetheless.

This was the first book I’ve read by this author, and I didn’t enjoy it much.
The writing style of the poems wasn’t for me and I couldn’t really connect / relate to the themes.
The poems also got repetitive after a while, but I guess you can only read so many poems about the same topic - love - without feeling a little bored.
In my opinion the author‘s self-proclaimed “feminism“ bordered on man hating at some points, which made me a little uncomfortable.
Overall, this was a disappointing read for me that I wouldn’t recommend.
It didn’t live to my expectations. It was okay and it has promising some poetries but couldn’t top the previous works she have.
Still worth a try to read it.
This is my first experience with LL, but definitely not my last.
I appreciate how accessible the poetry style is. It feels very minimalist - modern and simple, yet artistically pleasing.
I will admit I preferred the prose sections more than the verses, but only because it felt like they told a deeper story.
Overall, this a lovely selection of reflections on love, life, and everything in between.
Leav's books are always a pastime for me. They're calming, ecstatic, and always enjoyable. Every time I seem to finish them in one sitting.
And this collection of poems didn't fall far from the tree. It has the Leav magic and serenity all her books have. You will find that you have learned something hidden about yourself.
With one drawback. I didn't feel some of the poems; they didn't make me stop and stare in the abyss and just say "wow". So it was a bummer.
But since different poems speak differently to us, I guess this is on my part.
Still this is a good collection of poems as are her other books. So I would not only recommend you read this book, I recommend read other books by her.
I’ve been reading Lang Leav since 2016 and she is the only one whose poetry I didn’t grow tired of. She has been following me through my own heartbreaks but also the time I fell in love again even though I didn’t know it was possible. She does hold a special place in my heart.
I feel like some of the themes of September Love were themes which are often present in Leav’s previous poetry collection such as love, heartbreak, grief and self-love but she also talks about being a writer or what is it like to be an artist, which wasn’t present in her previous collection.
As soon as I saw that Lang Leav had a new collection on NetGalley I knew I wanted to pick it up, I have enjoyed her poetry in the past and was eager to check out this collection. I have to say that this is probably my favorite of what I've read from her. There was a lot of self exploration and I could feel the rawness in her words. It's a quick read, as most poetry collections can be, but it is full of impact and emotion.
