I've never been a big fan of lasagnas because it always seems like way too much work for something that is incredibly heavy. Fortunately for me, this cookbook shows me I couldn't be more wrong. The recipes are nice takes on classics, some new creations, and all seem delicious.

Enjoyable cookbook that focuses on lasagnas and lasagna type casseroles. I liked it though this would be something I would check out at the library rather than purchase a copy for my personal collection.

Wow! I loved this lasagna book!
You find all kinds of them there! I did not know that so many versions even existed!

Every type of Lasagna that you can dream of is in this book! While there is pictures in the book, I feel they could have put more finished dishes in place of the pictures of vegetables, only because most of us are visual. That being said, this is still a treasure not to be missed for those that like lasagna and other layered casseroles. The book is perfectly named!

Everyone is always looking for easy and delicious recipes to put on the table—and what’s more comforting than lasagna, the kind of food that satisfies from the moment the casserole is pulled from the oven, all hot and bubbly, with a mouthwatering aroma that fills the kitchen.

101 Lasagnas & Other Layered Casseroles features 100 new takes on the traditional favorite, such as Asian Short Ribs with Wonton Noodles, Green Chile Chicken with Tortilla “Noodles,” Veggie Lasagna Pockets, and Apple Pie Lasagna, as well as basics on different sized pans and the variety of available noodles, including gluten-free. Or skip the pasta altogether and use fresh veggies instead.

There are lots of interesting takes on lasagna in this cookbook. Some seem easy to make and some have many steps, although they seem very forgiving. There are many variations I would never thought of, like the before mentioned Asian Short Ribs with Wonton Noodles.
Recommended.

I thought this was a fun and intriguing cookbook. I admit that I was truly surprised at the variety of recipes here: even with be told up front that there are 101 recipes included. I have to admit that because of the holidays I didn't get the chance to try out quite as many of these recipes as I would have liked but still what I did try I enjoyed. Aside from the recipes the book features some helpful info and some tips & trips to up your game and and add to your knowledge base. My one and only negative thought about this book was its bare minimum of photos. In a perfect world I prefer a 1 recipe:1 photo ratio but I fully understand I'm not always going to get that but I would have liked to see at least a 50/50 ratio. I feel this would have really puffed up and put a slick, shiny feel on this book that in this case it lacked. Still based only on the recipes, I feel this book earns its place on your bookshelf if you are a big fan of lasagna's and layered dishes and are looking for a way to spice things up with new and inspired ideas that might never have occurred to you. The two recipes I tried were: Lasagna Bolognese and the Spicy Meatball Lasagna and both went over very well.

The book covers pans and ingredients including noodles, meat, cheese, and sauces. There are also some preparation/baking hints. Recipes are separated into chapters on meat, poultry, vegetarian, seafood, and dessert. The recipes cover a variety of flavor profiles, some breakfast dishes, and also have a few for cast iron/slow cooker/Instant Pot. For the most part, these are not quick recipes - many include preparation of a sauce and/or meat component before assembling the lasagna. Although, one benefit to this is that if you find a particular sauce you love or other component, you could mix and match parts of different recipes. I liked that the chapters all had a bunch of recipes.
A drawback is that the recipes do not include labels for special dietary needs or any nutritional information. I wanted there to be more photos, and some of those included were disappointingly of an ingredient rather than a dish.

I love the recipes in this book. The step by step instructions were easy to follow. We tried a few of the recipes and my family loved them! I will be going back to this when I am looking for a easy recipe.

It’s that time of year where we crave hearty, savory foods and this cookbook does NOT disappoint. I’ve perfected my lasagnas, baked ziti, and pot pies for my kids but this brings it all to another level!

For most, they think meals like this take a lot to prepare, this helps take the frustration out of cooking for those that prefer not to. You get a home-cooked meal that tasted fabulous without all the blood sweat and tears that might normally accompany your cooking time.

I was amazed to see all the variations of Lasagna and other layered dishes in this cookbook. I loved all the pictures, although I do wish there were more. I'm a visual person, and I love seeing what my finished dish (or even the steps along the way) should look like. That's really the only complaint I have about this cookbook... The recipes look delicious and easy to follow, even for an inexperienced chef. I've bookmarked several recipes and am really looking forward to making them.

Thank you to Tiller Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in return for my honest review.

I had no idea the variations of recipes that could be called “lasagna”. The included pictures were beautiful, but I wish there were more showing the finished product. The recipes themselves seemed pretty much straight-forward, but many had ingredients not available in my area.

101 LASAGNAS & OTHER LAYERED CASSEROLES by Julia Rutland is exactly what the title promises with suggestions for layered casseroles divided into meat, poultry, vegetarian, seafood and dessert categories. I am especially intrigued by recipes like Winter Squash (a superfood) Marinara & Ricotta Lasagna or Spinach & Artichoke Lasagna or even Roasted Fall Veggies and Turkey Lasagna. Seems like the perfect "hunker down and enjoy" meal options! The book itself contains some beautiful pictures, but they are often of ingredients and not of the dishes themselves. Then again, how to differentiate images of lasagnas? That is a potential flaw of this cookbook, too: even though readers are guaranteed to find a recipe using favorite ingredients, is 101 lasagna recipes too much for one cookbook? Nutritional information is not provided.

This cookbook has sections on recipes that feature meat, poultry, seafood or are vegetarian. There is also a section on desserts (in case you are hungry after the filling main course!)

The book begins with helpful sections on topics including the pros and cons of different pans, hints on cooking noodles, types of cheese, sauce varieties and more.

There are loads of enticing recipes, everything from deep dish sausage and spinach lasagna to Asian short rib lasagna, to chicken and artichoke lasagna to many, many more. The directions for all are clear.

If you are looking for some hearty meals this winter, take a look at this book. It certainly made me hungry.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
