After enjoying “The Fallen Girls” (Detective Clara Jeffries Book 1) I couldn’t wait for Book 2 to be released, and here it is! “Her Final Prayer” begins where “The Fallen Girls” ends. Clara Jeffries is now Chief of Police of her hometown in Alber, Utah. She doesn’t “feel” at home because the town still regards her as an apostate, an outsider. But Jeffries has her own reasons for coming “home” and part of that is to find resolution with her fundamentalist family, while the other part is the unresolved feelings she has for Max. Religion, tradition, and small town dynamics means everyone is watching all the time. Still, no one is willing to talk with Clara to help solve the brutal murder of Jacob’s two wives and two of their young children, while leaving Jacob fighting for his life. It isn’t necessary to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one, but I think you’d find it helpful to start in order. Casey does a wonderful job with character development and has a way of making the reader feel like they are part of the story. An interesting plot involving fundamentalist religion, with well-researched crime scene and police investigative tactics, and a few twists and turns along the way makes for another great Casey read. Start with Book 1, move on to Book 2, and then patiently wait with the rest of us for Book 3! You won’t be disappointed.

Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Kathryn Casey for giving me the opportunity to read and review another wonderful book.

On the one hand I wish I could say I was glad to be back in Alber, because it's not a very friendly and welcoming village. On the other hand it's the ideal background for a thriller and that makes me happy to be back. People are not keen on strangers even though Clara is not really a stranger. They don't collaborate very well and that makes her life as chief of the police a lot harder.

It's not easy when you have to find a killer, but it's so much harder when people don't want to open up and tell you everything they know. Clara would not be Clara if she would let herself be beaten by that behavior. No matter how hard she has to fight the people she has to interview, she does everything in her power to make sure the victims get what they deserve: justice.

Clara still struggles with her past and she has built a sky high wall around her heart. Little by little the wall is crumbling. Is she ready to let someone in again?

The author has shown she knows how to keep her readers captivated before and guess what... She does it again!

Some gruesome events are the base of this incredibly good book. 5 stars

Thank you, Kathryn Casey and Bookouture

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

As Detective Clara tries to rebuild her relationships with her family. Clara is called to a scene where she sees two young children murder right along with their mothers but learns the father Jacob is still breathing and fight for his life while their two months old son wasn’t harm.

As she dives into the investigations she still gets shunned but it doesn’t stop her from trying to learn the truth. As she sees parallel of her life in the victim’s as she learn the details of their lives. This was good mystery that kept me interest the author did well with polygamous. I tend not to like books with religion or cult undertone. I didn’t read the first book but I really enjoy reading about Clara as she is determined but flawed character.

As an agnostic I generally stay away from novels where religion or cults are an intrinsic element to the story. That being said, this was a page turning read that was well paced with interesting characters and a few surprises. I will definitely check out the author's other books.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC

I really enjoyed this book, I think I am intrigued by the whole lifestyle of the characters in the book. It’s a look into a different way of life and it’s really interesting. The storyline was great too, I read this in one sitting, had a very hard job putting it down.. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series and highly recommend both this book and book 1.

"When Detective Clara Jefferies is called to a family ranch just outside of Alber, Utah, she’s horrified to find two innocent young children murdered alongside their mothers. But she arrives at the scene quickly enough to rush their father, Jacob Johansson, to hospital where he begins fighting for his life, and to save his two-month-old son Jeremy, left untouched in his crib". This was the first book I have ever read by Kathryn Casey and I can't wait to read more. It’s absolutely brilliant I was sucked in from page one and couldn’t put it down.

Amazing. Outstanding. WOWZA! None of these adjectives does Her Final Prayer by Kathryn Casey justice. Picking up where she left off, Ms. Casey throws Clara into another devastating murder... two mothers and two children are found dead, along with a barely alive father and newborn son. Complicating her investigation are her relationships with her Mothers and the community at large.... Neatly woven into the book is Clara's relationship with Max as she sees parallels with Laurel (one of the victims) and Myles ( a suspect). You will not want to book this book down... heaven knows, I sure didn't. And don't worry if you haven't read the first book - you can jump right in - but you'll be checking out the first book soon afterwards. I love these characters and how Ms. Casey stays so true to Clara... and her heart. It's simply perfect.
