This was my first read by Sue Watson. I enjoyed her writing style. The character in this book, Hannah, annoyed me SO MUCH! I wanted to dive into the story and shake her. It ended up being a fairly decent thriller. I will read more by Watson in the future.
Hannah grew up in foster care and now enjoys her role as a social worker. At the urging of her best friend, she explores online dating where she encounters Alex. He seems like the perfect match, sharing her interests and dislikes, but is he truly as flawless as he appears?
First Date by Sue Watson is a gripping psychological thriller. A little repetitive in the middle it still is a mix of anticipated and unforeseen twists, making it an entertaining and engaging read
I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
A great story of twisted love and obsession
This book is sinister and is fast and entertaining
It is well written with the tension building throughout the novel
The final twist was amazing
3 stars
Hannah was so desperate to find love and have the prefect lifelong dream of a dog, children and house that she missed all the red flags flying high around her on her first date with Alex. Her best friend and boss Jas knew exactly what Alex was like but Hannah did not want to hear it and this played right into Alex's hands as he twisted Jas' concern into something more nasty.
I seriously wanted to shake Hannah most of the time and her ignorance and naivety was at times over the top but in saying that I know that this does happen for some.
The plot twist ending was a great addition and I will be reaching for more of Sue Watson's books in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a copy of the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Some people find love very easily and stay together for decades. Others go on one disastrous date after another or have one failed relationship after another resulting in them thinking they will never find someone to love until eternity and almost give up completely.
But then you decide to give it one last attempt... The last first date seems to be the one you have been looking for for ages. Someone you click with and who seems to want everything you dream about too. This one must be a keeper, right? That's what Hannah thinks as well. Finally she has found her prince charming.
Hannah is rather naive on the one hand, but on the other hand she does not fear confrontation. Her only and biggest problem is that when she falls in love, she falls so deeply that even though she can see the mistakes, she always forgives...
The question is how many times can you tell tales and who many times will you be forgiven?
Who is the bad guy in this book or are we looking for a bad girl?
Did I see through the scheming in the end? Yes, partially I did, but I was still shocked by certain revelations. I enjoyed reading this story very much. 5 stars
Thank you
This book took me quite a long time and I am not quite sure. I remember picking it up and telling myself that I could understand why Hannah was falling for Alex after their very first date and then life got in the way and I didn't pick the book back up again until. I wish I had kept it going when I first picked it up because this was a great psychological thriller.
Hannah was a very relatable character to me. She joins a dating app and meets Alex. She quickly falls in love with him but her friends are not too sure about him. I'm sure this has happened more often then not as dating apps have become more and more popular.
Alex's behaviors brought up a ton of red flags for me from the get go, similar to what Hannah's friends were cautioning her. It's easy to see though why Hannah was falling for Alex so quickly when he wants everything that she does.
Sue Watson weaves a very intriguing psychological thriller with the way that she develops her characters to the way that she moves the story at a quick pace. All of Hannah's co-workers are involved in her love life and that adds another element. Then there is Hannah's client that adds another twist to the story.
Rating: 4 out of 5 because of the ending. The ending just felt incomplete in the way it left Hannah's story and her clients story. I want to know what happened and you are just left trying to complete the story on your own.

This author writes thrillers so well and knows how to keep the reader engaged and entertained. The plot of this was gripping and even though I couldn’t stand the main character it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the story
I don’t know if this book was brilliant or terrible..
I spent 90% of the time frustrated to the point of anger and I rolled my eyes so often I gave myself a headache! Hannah was a character I wanted to shake and scream at almost the whole book however I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading and I didn’t see the ending coming* at all.
I honestly don’t know how I feel!
I hated the characters, all of them! Alex threw up so many red flags he may as well of ran around in a red gimp suit shouting I’m going to lock you in the basement and murder you in your sleep and Hannah would have STILL fawned over him and forgiven him. 🙄
I’ll definitely be thinking about this book for awhile.
I think sue writing is so well written and easy to read and she never disappoints in her books, very addictive and lots suspense I will definitely read more from sue
There was a lot of good writing but the content just got so unbelievable! Nice twist at the end but apart from that it was pretty underwhelming.
I really enjoyed this one and will look into this author more. I enjoyed with twists and the flow of the story. The writing was well done and kept my interest throughout. I will be recommending this one to friends.
In this book, we are introduced to Hannah, who in some parts, reminded me of myself. I took an instant like to her
Worried she might never fall in love, despite doing everything in her life “the right way”
Then Hannah meets Alex. Who seems to good to be true. And perhaps he is!!!
The book hooked me from the moment I picked it up. Hannah is such a vulnerable person and I just wanted the best for her.
The book was an enjoyable easy read and I would highly recommend
First Date by Sue Watson was a good read. Hannah was very gullible but a true trait of a lot of people who are being controlled, you can’t always see what’s happening in front of you. Great twist at the end and worth a read.
i adored this book from start to finish, wonderful characters and story, didn't want it to end. i'd give much more than five stars if i could.
Fantastic as usual from the author. I was completely gripped,= and couldn't put it down. So much tension and some good twists. Looking forward to reading more from the author!
Brilliant book! This author just keeps on getting better and better! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read this book. Highly recommend
An easy read but creepy. Stalker alert! I loved it!! Spent the afternoon reading it in the garden. A perfect summer read to pass away the Covid blues! 5/5.
This book started out really slow and I almost gave up. It very much felt like just a basic telling of an infatuation. but I pushed through and it picked up. it ended up being a very interesting ending and it ended up not being what I expected. it just took too long to be anything
The book started really well. I felt a little hooked in by the while ‘not seeing the type of relationship’ etc but unfortunately the rest of the story didn’t follow this page turning pattern
