My Review:

Loved, loved, loved this book!!!!! I am so glad I listened to all the great reviews and decided to pick up this book. I kept hearing about a great ending and boy did this book deliver. I have read other Sue Watson books and they were all great but this one tops the cake. This will make it on my top 10 list for the year, it was just that good.

This book was about a woman who decides to try a dating app to find love since she had had bad luck in finding the perfect man herself. On her first date ever using the app she does find Mr. Right. Is it going to last? Is he really that perfect? What secrets is he hiding? You find this out and so much more by the end.

Ok, so when I first read the description of this book I thought it was just another story about a relationship that turned ugly. I was wrong, dead wrong. This book was so much more than that. Yes, Hannah made me so angry by missing all the red flags that this guy, Alex, was sending out. But I’m telling you her vulnerability made this book. I do believe woman especially at the beginning of a relationship can be so naive. The relationship is new and they will make every excuse just to try and make it work since they are in the love honeymoon phase. I also loved Alex, the guy she fell in love with. One minute I thought he was the sweetest man ever but then the next he would do something creepy that would make you wonder. You never knew what this guy was thinking and if he truly was a psychopath who wanted to murder Hannah. Now let’s get to my favorite part of the book. That ending. Wow, wow, wow!!!!!! I never expected that. Just when I thought the book had ended, boom, a bombshell had been dropped. That ended explained it all. No stone was left unturned. I couldn’t believe it. I’m still in shock!!!!!

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’m soo disappointed. I’ve read Sue Watson’s last book Sister in Law and enjoyed it. I had great expectations from this book. However it does not live up to those expectations at all. The book could do with some heavy editing. The first date for example, goes on and on and on and frankly I couldn’t wait for it to finish. Hannah behaves ridiculously, for somebody who is a social worker you would expect them to have seen a lot of the bad in the world and definitely be more levelheaded because of it. There were times in the book that she genuinely frustrated me to the point that I would want to shake her. Her character was not likable. While there were other characters that you did want to know about or get to know better, overall it felt like 80% of this book was going nowhere. The ending was a redemption to a certain extent, the twist in the tale was not so predictable. And that alone made me bump this up to a 2.5
This is a book I would be OK to miss reading, unfortunate since I really do think the author has great potential.

Hannahs first date with Alex, was perfect.... maybe too perfect!

I didn't warm to Hannah at all, sadly. But that didn't spoil the story. Totally didn’t see the ending coming, what a twist! I do LOVE a book with a good twist.

I couldn't put this book down, and read into the ridiculously early hours of the morning.

I have never read any books by this author before, but will definitely check out her other books.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This story is about social worker Hannah who has recently come out of a relationship. Her best friend/boss suggests she tries using a dating app. She arranges a date with Alex who is a lawyer and seems to be the perfect match. But it seems Alex is a bit too good to be true.

On the whole I did enjoy this book but I got very frustrated with Hannah who is the main character. I gave her the benefit of the doubt at first but after a while her blindness as to what was happening got annoying. I guessed what was happening but enjoyed the twist and turns along the way.

Hannah Weston with a bit of encouragement from her best friend and co-worker Jas signs up to an online dating app. Through the app Hannah meets the gorgeous, attentive and loving Alex. He has a brilliant job and lives in a fabulous house, He is any girls dream man and Hannah is so lucky to be dating him, Or is she ?

Oh flipping hell what an absolutely thrilling and suspenseful domestic thriller this book was, I started this book and honestly couldn’t put it down. It’s a twisty tale and one filled with suspense. At times I was shouting at Hannah to be careful and less trusting, This book is so well written it is like it’s actually happening and that I know the characters. That to me is the sign of a excellent book. I had my suspicions at times of different characters but wasn’t always right, Finishing this book gave me goosebumps it was that good . So this book is a must read for any fans of psychological / domestic thrillers.

This was an enjoyable read with a nice twist at the end. In the current age of social media and internet dating it served as a warning! I marked it down a star as I did spend much of the book feeling like the main character really should know better.

Hannah is looking for her perfect man and tries internet dating thanks to her best friend. She meets Mr Perfect, Alex who appears to be everything she is looking for.

So many red flags that Hannah didn't seem to take enough notice off. I got extremely frustrated with her and was willing her not to be so gullible. It seemed so far fetched at times that a woman could be so stupid but I guess in love you can be blinkered in real life!

A good twist at the end, which had entered my head, but I guess I'm always looking for twists in a psychological thriller. This was a great end to the book.

If this doesn't put you off internet dating, nothing will!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc.

What do we say when something appears too good to be true???? That's right, IT IS!!

With Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes being one of my favourite books ever, I was really intrigued by the premise of First Date by Sue Watson.

Hannah, a 30 something year old, social worker, romantic, dreamer would like to meet that someone special and is convinced by her friend to try online dating. She matches with a handsome man called Alex and their first date is romantic and special. He ticks all of Hannah's boxes, attentive, loving, kind, great job, and he wants all of the same things out of life as she does, with her. She can't believe her luck.

However, Alex has secrets, and Hannah, so in love with Alex, ignores every red flag going. This is the epitomy of a toxic relationship. Hannah is able to explain away so much of Alex's behaviour and time and time again, excuses it as him just being "kind" or "because he loves her and wants her to be safe". When Hannah finds she is subtly being alienated from her friends, and starts receiving hate notes, and feels like she is being followed, is Alex the man he appears to be???

What a brilliantly twisty and sinister psychological thriller. Basically everything I want in a book!! I was almost screaming at Hannah as she ignored red flag after red flag. As I read on, with one hand over my eyes with the dread of what was coming next, I still couldn't put this book down!

Just when I thought Sue had wrapped up the ending, bam, there was a twist in the tale. Definitely had my suspicions about someone, but nope got it completely wrong and I LOVE THAT. It totally took me by surprise I have to say. Reading on some more and yet another surprise turn of events which left me pondering the ending for ages!!

This book is definitely up there in my list of top reads of 2020. Keep your eye out for this book on 16 October, it's not one to be missed. It really makes for compulsive and thrilling reading. An easy 5 stars!!

Wow!!! What a great thriller. The beginning is a slow buildup and then the second half is a fast past thriller. It definitely have me creepy vibes through the whole book. I, also never saw that ending coming. Definitely give this one a read.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and Bookouture in return for my honest review. Thank you for the opportunity.

I’ll admit I scrolled past this book several times. Neither the cover nor the title are especially intriguing. However, I kept seeing people rave about it on the ARC blogs so I gave it a go. So glad I did!

While it’s billed as a “thriller”, the first half of this book is a pretty slow burn. I could feel the intended creepiness, got some “You” type vibes and honestly nearly put it down because the main male character is downright unlikeable and the story seemed to be very predictable. Still, the reviews were compelling so I had to press on.

The back half of the book upped the creep factor and several of the characters were fleshed out, things started to lean in a different direction. By the 60% mark I could not put it down! The ending was a complete shock in several different aspects and I really loved it!

Highly recommended for fans of “You” by Caroline Kepnes, as well as fans of B.A. Paris. This book is for anyone who enjoys creepy characters, quick reads, and surprise endings! I sincerely hope Netflix adapts this for television!

First, WOWZA! I had no idea this ending was coming!

When Hannah meets Alex, it feels like the stars have aligned. He is the ying to her yang. The perfect match! Then slowly, but surely, that perfect facade begins to. crumble and Hannah's not sure what to do. Will she stay on for the ride? Or will she listen to all those around her who think something us up?

Hannah's decision leads to an ending so twisted, I could not put it down!

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this thriller in exchange for an honest review!

Wow, what a thriller! This is a real page-turner that I had a hard time putting down! I love Author Sue Watson's books and this does not disappoint.

Hannah Weston is a social worker who is not dating anyone so co-worker/boss and best friend, Jasmine "Jas" talks her into going on a dating app in order to meet Mr. Right. She meets lawyer, Alex Higham and they begin dating. Alex checks all the boxes to be Mr. Right, but what can possibly go wrong??? Lots of creepy things can start happening that makes Hannah question their relationship.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this super good book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an intense read and I absolutely loved it.

The twists were spectacular and, like Hannah, I had no idea who I could trust.

I love Sue Watson books and so was excited to read First Date. The main character Hannah comes from a difficult background in the social care system, but she has devoted her professional career to making life better for people who have upbringings like her own. She needs to feel safe and doesn’t trust easily but, after signing up to a dating app, she meets her perfect match and they have so much in common. As she finally starts to let her guard down, some unexpected and terrifying events start to unfold but Is she putting her trust in the wrong person?

This was dark and truly gripping! Five stars!!

Thanks NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for an ARC to review.
Be Careful what you wish for, and if something looks too good to be true maybe because it is!
Hannah has just came out of a bad breakup looking for a fresh start and her dream guy, with a yellow Labrador raising three kids in the white picket fenced cozy house. Meeting her dream on a first date through a dating app she couldn't be happier.
Hannah is a social worker who is supposed to be smart and immune to any sort of deceit and manipulation to enable her to do her job efficiently but seriously she couldn't have been more naive, I yelled at her many times. She was easily swayed by everyone around her, I can understand where she's coming from as an insecure foster kid but she should have changed and grown up especially in her line of work.
Alex had the classic psycho boyfriend from every single psychological thriller I have ever read before, did she never read one?! Go read couple of books girl, maybe next time you'll recognize the signs!!
As a whole it was good, the last third way better than the rest of the book.
I will try other books by #SueWatson

I really wanted to like this book, but I kept on getting frustrated. There were so many red flags throughout the whole book and the main character, Hannah didn't seem worried enough by any of them. I love psychological/domestic thrillers, but there were too many ignored warning signs. I think it would have been more believable and less frustrating without all of them as well as the ending. Thank you, NetGalley!

This is the first ever book by Sue Watson that I am reading and after having read it, she definitely goes on my list for authors whose works I have read and liked.

How would it be if the first date you went with the guy, everything just seems so picture perfect and he just IS the guy of your dreams right to the very minute details you ever dreamt of? Exciting right?

Hannah, 36 year old social worker who works with troubled children and teens in the foster care system is very anxious that she has not yet found a person she can share her life with. Just when she is worrying, she gives online dating a chance when forced by her boss and best friend Jas. What enfolds is the perfect date and a promise of a perfect life with Alex. So does everything just unfold perfectly? Why are her colleagues not very fond of Alex her boyfriend. What is it that they are seeing that she is not.

This journey of Hannah from her first date on is the story and this story starts off very engaging and exciting, takes a dip or gets bit slack in the middle and unfold with the most unpredictable twist towards the end. So the journey through the story is real good. The plot is well executed. As reader I also started getting irritated by Hannah's choice and obsession with Alex and felt why is she not seeing what we are seeing. Also the self talk that Hannah justifies Alex is very convincing. kudos to the author for bringing out how our inner dialogue sometimes sabotages our outer life.
What I didnt like was the way the ending was executed. It was a very unpredictable twist no doubt but the manner is what did not vibe with me. I still would not take away from the experience of this story.

If you love to read psychological thrillers with unpredictable endings then this one will be yours to enjoy.
I thank Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for accepting my request to review this book and the opinions expressed are entirely mine.

My star rating is about 3.75

Have you been on a first date where you start planning your whole future? Yes, that's what Hannah did. Hannah knew Alex was perfect from the very first date. They both wanted a yellow labrador, three kids and weekends in Devon. Then why does her best friend not like Alex, wasn't Alex her soul mate? They both even liked the same drink.

First date is an astonishing book which keeps you hooked till the last page. The book is well written, from it’s writing style to editorial quality. The characters are developed wonderfully. The thing I disliked in the book was that the climax was a bit disappointing and left the reader hanging on cliff, Instead of that the story was amazing. It was full of twist and turns. I hated the protagonist, Hannah for her stupidity and ignorance but I guess due to her stupidity the story got more interesting. Alex was handsome, with him trying so hard he was also loveable and had a complicated personality.

An interesting read which would appeal to anyone looking for a quick, light story with a few twist and turn.

As soon as I started reading this book I knew it was going to be a train wreck......the kind you can't look away from.

When you meet someone on a First Date and everything seems to be perfect you should realize that it just might be too good to be true. For every red flag that pops up, Hannah (our questionable heroine) comes up with a justification.

My initial thought was that I wasn't crazy about Hannah (I’m yelling at her in my mind). Then I thought I didn't like the book. But, when I realize that perhaps this is the author's intention, she is succeeding because I cannot turn the pages fast enough. That doesn't happen if you don't like the book. I keep hoping that Hannah smartens up.

Every time you think things can't get worse with her boyfriend, it does. And, I’m still mentally yelling at Hannah! Alex (the boyfriend) gives a whole new meaning to passive aggressive. Two flawed characters in a dysfunctional relationship.

And then there is the ending.......totally Hitchcock-ish! (is that even a word?)

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the Advance Readers Copy.

This book had a very simple plot, though I should have seen that coming from the synopsis. The equation for this plot went something like this - girl meets boy. girl falls in love with boy at a rapid pace. boy turns out to not be mister perfect. girl is afraid for her life.

However, even though I did guess how this book was going to end, I did find it quite entertaining! I lost some sleep last night because I didn't want to put the book down. It was suspenseful and fast-paced and while I guessed what the "twist" might be, I did not see certain elements of the twist coming! The only part that really rubbed me the wrong way was Hannah's toxic friendship with Jas. I could not for the life of me see why they were friends and I desperately wanted Hannah to dump every toxic person in her life (Tom, Alex, Jas, etc).

All in all, while this book wasn't "mind-blowing", it was really entertaining and I did enjoy the story. I would rate this one a 3.25/5.
