Fleur Pierets's Love Is Love: The Journey Continues is a heartwarming and beautifully illustrated picture book that boldly explores LGBTQIA+ issues, particularly marriage equality. As someone passionate about stories that celebrate love in all its forms, I was excited to dive into this sequel, even though I hadn’t read its predecessor, Love Around the World.
In this delightful continuation, Fleur and Julian embark on a global adventure to celebrate their love by exploring marriage traditions in 15 countries that recognize same-sex unions. The narrative is both inspiring and educational, highlighting the cultural significance of marriage across diverse landscapes, from Argentina to Taiwan. Pierets masterfully intertwines the couple's personal journey with broader themes of acceptance and equality, making it accessible and relatable for readers of all ages.
The illustrations are vibrant and engaging, perfectly complementing the joyful tone of the story. Each page captures the essence of the countries they visit, immersing readers in the rich tapestry of traditions and celebrations. It’s a visual feast that not only entertains but also educates children about the beauty of diversity in love.
What I particularly appreciated was how the book normalizes same-sex love in a way that is both tender and powerful. It addresses the challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals while celebrating their resilience and the progress made toward marriage equality. This dual focus fosters empathy and understanding, making it an essential read for children and adults alike.
Love Is Love: The Journey Continues is a significant addition to the growing collection of LGBTQIA+ literature for young readers. It’s a sweet exploration of love, commitment, and the importance of recognizing and celebrating all kinds of relationships. Whether you’re familiar with Fleur and Julian’s journey or just discovering it, this book is sure to warm your heart and inspire meaningful conversations about love and acceptance.
In conclusion, this picture book is a joyous celebration of love that resonates deeply in our world today. It’s a must-read for anyone looking to support and promote inclusivity and understanding in children’s literature. I wholeheartedly recommend it to families, educators, and anyone passionate about celebrating love in its many forms.
"Love is Love" by Fleur Pierets is a heartwarming celebration of love, resilience, and the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Pierets' personal journey, beautifully depicted, serves as a testament to the strength found in love's many forms. This memoir is a moving tribute to the universal power of love and a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for acceptance.
I really loved this book! I'm so glad to see a book for the younger ones to be able to read and understand that actually explain more complex topics. There should be more books written like this. It was very beautifully written and very easy to understand. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating for me!
A BEAUTIFUL story about love being LOVE. I can't wait to have children to be able to share this with them, and I would gladly gift this to any kids in my life.
A special story about acceptance and the power of love worldwide. Wonderful art accompanies the words describing acceptance and love.
I genuinely cried so much reading this book, it was so touching and wonderful. If I could magically get a copy into every school, library and bookshelf across the country I would because so many more people should read this lovely book.
Absolutely loved it.
LOVE IS LOVE Is based on the true story of Fleur and her wife Julian. Fleur and Julian decide to be married in over a dozen of the countries that allow same sex marriages, and LOVE IS LOVE follows their journey down the alter in each of those countries.
Great conversation starter book. Super engaging graphics.
I cried. With love. With happiness. We need more books with this. With love. I can’t even do Justice how warm and fuzzy this made me feel.
Love is Love, whether it's between people of the same gender, or people of different genders. This beautiful picture book chronicles the journey of the author and her wife to get married in every country where it is legal to. As a teacher this would be a great book to use in class to link PSHE and Geography charting the places that the couple have married on a world map.
I really liked this book and the teacher in me can instantly think of a geography or map skills lesson to go with this book. (I match books with activities... that's what I do!) I think it would be fun to read Love is Love and plot the couple's travels on a world map and learn about the different countries they get married in. I haven't blogged about Love is Love yet, but it is one I'd like to blog about in the future!
"The worldwide adventure continues as Fleur and Julian celebrate marriage in 15 more countries that allow same-sex unions, completing the journey they started in Love Around the World (2020 Rainbow Book List)."
My favorite element of this is the art. It is absolutely amazing. I love how the artist features the country and culture so well. The story itself is fantastic. I love the idea of traveling to every county to get married (though I hate the reason why that's actually reasonably easy to do for this couple). When I read the "About the Author," I sobbed. This concept is so beautiful and I pray this concept is unreasonable in the very near future. Read the about the author. You won't regret it.
Beautiful children's book about a lesbian couple who decide to travel around the world and get married in all 28 countries where marriage equality is the law. Based on a true story and beautifully illustrated, the simple story of love conquering all will touch your heart.
This graphic novel very appealingly depicts the fasts of how few country has taken the their respective actions for the LGBTQ community and very illustrations were also so bright and attractive.
**I received an ARC from the publisher on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
A beautiful book with colorful pictures.
Love is Love by Fleur Pierets is such an amazing and inspirational illustrated book on LGBTQIA+ representation and courage.
Two women travel around the world to get married in each of the countries they visit - what a wonderful adventure! I appreciated the different facts about each country as well. It really helps see (in a concrete way) how other countries are more accepting of love in all its forms.
I really love the vibrant illustrations but do wish the font size was larger in order to stand out a bit better.
Thanks NetGalley and Six Foot Press for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Love is Love is such a sweet, romantic, "follow the love" style story. It is educational and beautiful.
This is a cute, loving way to present brief information about countries that are LGBTQ+ friendly around the world. I haven't read the first volume, but I did very much enjoy the narration and art style of this picture book!
This is such a lovely, amazing, short and illustrated book!
And did I mention, it's a really wonderful children's book and the brilliant illustrations are absolutely my favourite. They show in a really heartfelt way that love is love and it's okay to love whoever you want to. It lets love be free and allows children to see that there are all different kinds of love in the world and that is such a great aid in the world we they are growing up in, with reference to LGBTQIA.
I'm not sure of the kids fully understood it completely but there was lots of questions and there was lots of talk between us before we had even got throught the first few pages, which I really loved, it's important to educate kids this way and they wanted to read it a few times afterwards! They loved the bit about all the different countries as well as they are really into the world and their surroundings.
This book was so vibrant and colourful and different to anything we've read and they really cherished that.
With thanks to Netgalley, the publishers for sending me this to review in exchange for an honest review and to the author for sharing such a wonderful and touching story and providing it in an educational way.
5/5 stars
Such an adorable children's novel! The art work was so pretty, and it was so heartfelt and full of love! I feel Joy when I think about the kids who will read this and see how much Julian and Fleur love each other - enough to go to all the countries they can to get married (and here's to more countries legalising same gender marriage so Julian and Fleur can continue their journey to marry in more countries!)
This is a great book for all children, it helps them to see that it's okay to love whoever you want, and also teaches them some fun things about countries along the way. There are some lovely illustrations too that are very bright and colourful. And lots of interesting information.
