Seattle detective Crosswhite has had a bit of a transition recently following maternity leave, expecting to return to her position as part of the Violent Crimes Unit and finding herself instead in Cold Cases. The retiring detective of Cold Cases left a couple of awesome, caring shoes to fill as well as credible stats. Violent Crimes partner Kins, however, taps her for just a bit of help in his active kidnapping case and as Crosswhite begins her journey into Cold Cases finds a thread that might provide a crossover.

Big hook at the beginning gets the ball rolling into her cold case while Kins’ investigation adds dimension to the storyline. Crosswhite still struggles with some of her history and the kidnapping cases heap on the anxiety and apprehension.

The author does an amazing job of gradually upping the tension (the pacing is perfect), slipping into the house as a fly on the wall of three brothers living in their parents old home, persons of interest in the missing person’s case. Dugoni has a way of fleshing the most sinister despots, highlighting all the warts, their character development coursing seamlessly between Crosswhite’s team, her investigations, and the scheming predators.

The well-plotted storyline just flows, grabs and holds attention as it builds toward a pulsing, overwhelming sense of urgency—so close…HURRY!! And the conclusion so satisfying. Should I mention the little red herrings and one devil of a shocker near the end I NEVER saw coming in Kins’ case (while I’d correctly guessed the resolution to Crosswhite’s Cold Case).

I’ve read a number of Dugoni’s books. This one, however, may be my favorite, until another comes out, that is. Highly recommend this thriller and the series, though this could work as a standalone if this one is your introduction to the series. (Trust me, you’ll catch up quickly.)

Another Dugoni book and another 5 star review!

I love Dugoni as an author and the Tracy Crosswhite series is one that goes from strength to strength.

Tracy returns to work after a long break with a mixture of maternity leave and compassionate leave.
Her position in the A team has been filled by another woman and her spiteful boss offers her an opening in cold cases, as the one detective on that department is retiring.

She reluctantly agrees and immediately starts investigating the cases of a missing child and seperately 2 prostitutes also missing.

When one of the A team, Kins, receives a new case on his lap, a female jogger gone missing from a park, with all of the rest of his team tied up on other cases, he asks Tracy to give him a dig out.
Its not long before Tracy sees similarities between the missing jogger and her legacy case of the two prostitutes. If she solves one it should solve the other too. She also has her missing child case to follow up on too.

I flew through this one. The book feels short, which is a great thing. I didnt realize I was so far into the book I was so engrossed.
We know the perpetrator for the missing women from near the start so its a matter of if Tracy can figure it out.

Theres a perfect balance of police work and Tracys personal life in this one and the personal stuff is important to this story arc and the story arc of the series overall.

Its another brilliant read from Robert Dugoni. Will work as a stand alone but there are back reference throughout.

Hugely entertaining. An easy 5 stars from me.

Thanks to Netgalley and Thomas & Mercer for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have heard great reviews of Robert Dugoni books and "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" is on my TBR, but I have never read anything by him. So when I came across this ARC on Netgalley - a book by this bestselling author - I couldn't resist requesting it (even though I was swamped with ARCs). I was so glad when my request was granted!

So, now I get what the hype is all about. The book is about missing children and how Detective Tracy Crosswhite tackles the case. It was a hair-raising, edge-of-the-seat thriller through and through. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

I am herewith adding all Robert Dugoni books to my TBR because that's how much I loved this book.

Thanks to Netgalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Robert Dugoni for the ARC.

The only other book I read by Robert Dugoni was “The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell” which I loved. I received the ARC to read this book from the publisher and NetGalley and I thank them very much because I loved this one too! Unfortunately for me this is book eight in the Tracy Crosswhite detective series, however, it was not difficult to understand what was going on. In fact, I was all in from the very start.

Veteran Seattle homicide detective Tracy Crosswhite returns from a lengthy maternity leave to find her position has been given to another female detective. She is forced to take the position of the retiring cold case detective which she is not convinced she wants. She quickly becomes ensconced in two cold cases and one current case with her former partner. Although the story bounces back and forth between her investigations into the three cases it flows beautifully. I was just floating along for the very enjoyable ride while Detective Crosswhite put two and two together and wrapped up everything in a nice neat bow. She did this while juggling a husband, new baby and jealous back-stabbing supervisor. The shocking ending had a twist I totally did not see coming.

I’m so excited to find a new mystery/thriller series to read and will most definitely be starting to read this series with book one. Dugoni is a master at his craft. I gave this 4.25 stars rounded down to four. #NetGalley #InHerTracks

In Her Tracks caught my attention very, very quickly! First of all, author Robert Dugoni, is a favorite of mine and as soon as I see is name, I know that I'm in for the ride of my life! And most importantly, we can't leave out the main character, Tracy Crosswhite is a detective with the Seattle P.D. and finds that, upon returning to duty after being on a leave of absence, her position with Violent Crimes has been assigned to someone else by her captain and nemesis, Johnny Nolasco. This man irked me to no end!

Tracy finds herself assigned to the Cold Case unit and her first case involves a child who's been missing for a year. She's immediately drawn to this case and finds herself in a maelstrom of emotions. Are the parents lying about the disappearance? Then, just as fast, she finds herself involved in ongoing missing person's case, a case that's both confusing and challenging to her. Tracy is a never give up kind of gal!

And that's all I can say. Don't want to spoil your reading fun! Thank you #NetGalley for providing me with AC!

4.25 STARS

In this 8th addition to his Tracy Crosswhite series, Robert Dugoni delivers yet another enthralling, suspenseful installment to one of my all-time favorite series! Back from maternity leave, Tracy finds herself delving into cold cases while simultaneously working a missing person’s case with her former partner, Kins. Deep in the trenches of investigating these cases, life-work balance comes into play, as Tracy adjusts to her new role as a working mom.

Boasting an intriguing storyline with complex, well-developed characters, “In Her Tracks” is a character-driven mystery that serves up a surprise or two along the way. Whether you are a long-time fan of this series as I am, or you are discovering it for the very first time, this story doesn’t disappoint!

Thank you to #NetGalley, the publisher #Thomas&Mercer and the author for the opportunity to read and review the latest instalment of the "Tracy Crosswhite" series, "In Her Tracks".
Tracy is back from leave after the harrowing time she had which culminated in a very personal case solution. But she's back to find her place on the A Team has been taken and she's been relegated to Cold Case Files after the retirement of the current officer. Knowing that the main reason for this is the animosity of her Captain, Johnny Nolasco (who has had in in for her for years, dating back to the Academy), she decides to make the best of the situation, as two of her Cold Case files are recent, and one hits close to home - the disappearance of the 5-year-old daughter of a former Cop.
Elle Chin went missing on a night out with her father, when they were playing hide-and-go-seek in a corn maze. And to this day, nothing has been found to solve her disappearance. Both parents blamed each other at the time, and apparently still do.
Her other Cold Cases are the disappearances of two known prostitutes - similar to her previous "Cowboy" case - but he's been put away for good.
No sooner has she gotten started on these cases, when her old partner Kinsington asks for her help on a current case, as no one else is available.
A young woman has gone missing while out jogging in an unfamiliar part of town and her family and friends fear that there has been foul play involved.
What unfolds is a multi-generational horror story which puts Tracy deep into the search for the missing woman, while at the same time she's still looking for Elle Chin and the two missing prostitutes.
Mr. Dugoni tells a tightly-woven tale from start to finish, and I was kept guessing through most of the book, even when all of the loose ends seem to have been tied up - but Tracy, through a remarkable bit of insight, has one last solution up her sleeve.
As I said at the end of 'A Cold Trail', the previous book in the series, this is a series well worth your time and highly recommended.

This is the first book I read in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I am totally impressed! I love that there were two mysteries in one. First the missing little girl Elle Chin, who went missing on an outing with her dad. Elle's mom and dad blamed each other for her abduction. I wont say who was to blame, but i was quite surprised when I found out! The second mystery is a young woman that went jogging in a park and was abducted. Surprisingly, she was not the only young lady that was missing from the area. Two other women are also missing. But are they related? The only similarities are the vicinity of where they came up missing. Tracy Crosswhite has her work cut out for her. Will she find the jogger alive? Time is not on her side, but she is determined.
This book is a fast read and keeps you interested. You wont be disappointed!

Eighth in the Tracy Crosswhite series. It can be read as a standalone, but character and thematic development may make more sense if you are familiar with the earlier books.

Excellent police procedural, with a complex, evolving heroine and a cast of intriguing supporting characters.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In Her Tracks – Robert Dugoni

After a medical leave for some PTSD following her last case, Tracy Crosswhite is finally cleared to return to work. As she arrives for her first day, she’s promptly called to Capt. Nolasco’s office, only to learn that her Violent Crimes Squad team position was given to another detective while she was away. Her only choice is to assume to role of cold case investigator, whose present detective happens to be retiring today. Feeling cornered, Traci stops by the cold case office to get the lay of the land.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Cole is planning on running a new jogging path at an out of the way park, before heading to a Halloween party. As she finally locates the park and sets out, she’s surprised to find that the running trail dead ends. She turns around to run back, but never makes it out of the woods.

As Tracy gets settled and reviews some of the cold cases, a couple in particular catch her eye. One is that of the disappearance of a Seattle police officer’s daughter, 5 years ago, after playing hide and seek in a corn maze. The child was never found. More than a bit intrigued, Tracy digs into the file. Then a knock on the door brings her former partner Kins, who has just picked up the missing jogger case, and asks her to take a ride, as he lays out the situation. Together they start some interviews as they attempt to discover the whereabouts of Stephanie Cole. Tracy then recalls two of the case files in her office – also those of missing women from the same general area – and wonders if they might be related.

As Tracy, Kins and the rest of the VCS team race against time to find a missing woman, the missing child from years ago is not ever far from Tracy’s mind. As DNA evidence mounts, the team zeroes in on a suspect, desperately hoping to find Stephanie alive, but there’s still a piece of the puzzle missing…and time is running out…

This is another series I’ve discovered, thanks to Netgalley & Thomas & Mercer Publishers, and it does not disappoint. A first-rate protagonist, and a fast-paced thriller make for another fantastic read from Robert Dugoni! As always, I cannot wait for Tracy’s next adventure!

In Her Tracks is another thrilling read in the Detective Tracy Crosswhite series. Back from an extended maternity leave, Tracy finds herself replaced in her department and facing a placement in the cold case department. Replacing the only detective in Cold Cases, Tracy dives in to the cases until her former partner Kins draws her into his case. With Tracy's hardball determination, the cases quickly escalate as Tracy finds a way to work cold cases and solve the current missing persons case. Killing two birds with one stone, Tracy proves why she is one of the best detectives to grace the pages of a mystery series ever. Suspenseful and action packed, the story is unputdownable for another addicting addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Another Tracy Crosswhite 5 star winner. The story revolves around a cold case file of the disappearance of a little 5 year old girl, and the recent disappearance of a jogger in a local park. Two different scenarios, both bringing in a range of characters that you can actually picture in your minds eye. You are not going to believe the ending. Wow! The one thing I love about Robert Dugoni’s books is he tells a good story, and each character is well thought out. I really enjoyed this read and I will be recommending this book to all my book clubs, and I’ll make sure we have plenty of copies for our library patrons. Thank you NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Robert Dugoni for allowing me this advanced digital copy for a honest review. Well Done Mr. Dugoni on your latest work. I can’t wait for more.

Great read! In Her Tracks is the eighth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. You don’t have to read the other books to enjoy this one. Tracy returns to work from a leave of absence and takes on all the cold cases. Tracy starts out investigating a missing little girl and then getting thrown into several missing persons. The abduction of one young women becomes the main focus. There are some surprises, great book. Thank you net galley for the art

My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for an ARC of In Her Tracks In exchange for an honest review.

Robert Dugoni has done it again- written an exciting and suspenseful installment in the Tracy Crosswhite series, While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend to read the entire series in order to gain full understanding of the enigmatic protagonist, Detective Crosswhite’s character is multi dimensional and engaging. To Mr, Dugani’s credit, the rich character development of all the principles endears them to the reader and successfully propels these stories. Another mark of such dynamic and round characters is their authentic dialogue.

In addition to the characterization, the story arc is intriguing with plenty of twists and mystery. The pacing is fast. It is a suspenseful and totally satisfying police procedural crime story! I also appreciate the thematic messages that underscore Mr. Dugoni’s stories: family bonds and loss, guilt and forgiveness, the meaning faces of loyalty and love. to name a few.

I always look forward to reading the next installment!

A good solid read with Detective Tracy Crosswhite solving a couple of cold cases involving a missing child and two prostitutes . Also she helps out in a recent case involving a missing female jogger. The action moves quickly and you finish the book feeling that good sometimes wins over evil.

BIG thanks to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and Robert Dugoni for sending me a free copy of this book to read and review. It's my first NetGalley book and it just happens to have been written by one of my very favorite authors!

I love this series and it keeps getting better and better. In "In her Tracks," Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself reassigned to the Seattle PD’s cold case unit. It feels like a slap in the face at first but becomes something she is intrigued by. Then her former partner, Kinsington “Kins” Rowe asks for Tracy's help in his own missing person case. From there it's a wild ride and I absolutely did NOT want to put the book down! Mr. Dugoni is brilliant at developing characters and plots.

This book can be read as a stand-alone but I feel it will be most appreciated by the reader who has read the entire series.

I. Can't. Wait. for the next book in the series to be written!!

I've read several books by Robert Dugoni and have enjoyed them all. His books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that he's written.

Robert Dugoni keeps getting better and better. He paints a picture with few words, making us turn the pages to see what happens next. As the latest installment in the Tracy Crosswhite series, this thriller can be read independently. The day Tracy returns from maternity and medical leave, she learns she’s been re-assigned to the Cold Case Unit from Violent Crimes, where she had a 100% success rate. Cold cases have gotten under her skin in the past. Can she adjust to her new position and solve cold cases that may break her heart and bring her too close to her past? Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Super cop Tracy Crosswhite returns to work following an extended leave only to find the her revengeful boss has moved her out of her violent crimes position and into cold cases. But it turns into a good thing for us, her ardent fans. Robert Dugoni, the author, expertly merges Tracy’s new role with her old in two well-developed cases. In one case a five-year old case involving a child abduction haunts her, while a cold series of missing prostitutes and a current case of a missing jogger seem too similar to ignore. The Medal of Valor recipient and her band of friends work together in a well-paced novel that includes excellent twists.
