Melinda Leigh has us being a fly on the wall with her character, Bree Taggert as she goes about discovering a death that has been staged as a suicide but is really a homicide. Things get messy when all of the suspects have ties to Bree.

DROWN HER SORROWS.
..#3 in Bree Taggert
.....Melinda..Leigh
Sheriff .Bree getting a call, a woman’s purse and cell phone left in a car, night temperatures were to be freezing, and driver not spotted anywhere.
Below the bridge Bree found her, Holly, a young woman missing for three days. It was carefully planned to look like a suicide.
A chilling plot of greed, unpaid bills, arguments with your spouse, a nursing home bill, all were draining them. A sister who was shy, unmarried, opposed to many of there decisions. It captures you from the beginning. For Bree struggling yet to raise her niece and nephew. The love she has for Matt, she doesn’t want to lose. Given ARC by Net Galley and Montlake for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Drown Her Sorrows is the third books in the Bree Taggert series. It could be read as a standalone novel, but the series is excellent so if you're a new reader, I highly recommend reading it from the beginning.

When Sheriff Bree Taggert goes to investigate an abandoned car, she finds the body of Holly Thorpe partially submerged in the river. The note in the car suggests suicide, but the autopsy reveals that Holly was murdered before she went into the water. As Holly and Matt, a contract investigator and her love interest, investigate Holly's life, they find several people with potential motives to murder Holly. When one of those suspects is murdered, it complicates the entire investigation.

Drown Her Sorrows is a quick, thrilling mystery that will keep you enthralled until the breathtaking ending. I highly recommend Drown Her Sorrows and the entire Bree Taggert series.

Sheriff Bree Taggert finds herself again involved in a major case that hits close to home and will prove a lot more complicated than she ever could have imagined. Her budding romance and family time are hard to juggle with the demands of her job and she will have to learn how to multi task. Exciting, tragic, thrilling and action pact and I loved every minute of this compelling read! Love the characters and dynamics and her back story as so sad. Five star read for me!

Edge of your seat, page-turning suspense! I ADORE this series. It's still romantic suspense but the romance is more in the background although if Matt gets his way that'll change!

Bree is still settling in as the new Sherriff and trying to get the department into shape after the mess her predecessor left. Her part-time investigator is also her very new boyfriend. She wants to keep them on the backburner so no-one thinks she's funnelling money to her boyfriend. But let's face it with her departments budget, Matt wouldn't exactly be rolling in cash!

There is an intricate, well-crafted, and totally gripping storyline. There was a truly WTF moment when I figured out who the #BigBad was. It totally caught me by surprise. I loved the way Dana and Adam have stepped up to keep their little family together. The kids are still dealing with their grief in their own way and this blended family just clicks together and softens the edges of their grief.

Roll on #4.

PS Let's get Dana a date!

I quickly grew to love this detective series and when book 3 landed in my inbox, I immediately dove in! This series is action packed and led by fierce, strong, and intelligent Sheriff Bree Taggert.

In book 3, Sheriff finds the body of a young woman floating near the river. As she begins to unravel the mystery surrounding the death, the tangled web of deceit begins to reveal itself.

This was suspenseful and kept me on my toes! The conclusion was shocking and left me delighted. Reuniting with the characters was an added bonus, as I have quickly become invested in their lives. I love this series and this installment was no exception! 4.5 ⭐️ My thanks to @amazonpublishing for the advance reader!

4.5 hearts

I have loved every book in this Bree Taggert series. I have also enjoyed the author's Morgan Dane and Scarlet Falls series which are very loosely related to this one. They are earlier but do not need to be read first. Drown Her Sorrows focuses on a complex case and Bree's expanding relationships.

I am not going to rehash details of the previous books which are excellent reads. I would read these books in order. The world development and family history is not covered in depth here because it is in the earlier books. Many of the characters, particularly at the sheriff's department, and most of the politics of Bree's position are also not part of the primary story.

The murder investigation is very tricky and layered. The obvious suspects seem to have alibis, and the more they look at the victim's life the more things they find which don't make sense. Just when you think you know, then there's another murder. So it was not easy to solve this as a reader. Bree and Matt work these cases together. Bree takes on the most dangerous parts and continues to work even when injured to make sure things are handled properly and completely.

Another aspect woven into the story is Bree's personal journey. She has grief from her sister's death, adjusting to her new demanding work, taking care of her sister's two children, her fears and her expanding relationship with Matt, and her brother, Adam. She makes progress in so many ways. I don't know how she deals with everything, with intelligence and poise; I am so impressed with her.

I am thrilled to say it looks like there will be at least three more books in this amazing series. The next release is Right Behind Her in September 2021. I really can't wait!

I received an ARC of Drown Her Sorrows from NetGalley. This book is the third in the Sheriff Bree Taggert series. In Drown Her Sorrows, Bree and her investigator Matt Flynn invstigate the death of a young woman and the woman's employer.

While the mystery is fast-paced and suspenseful, the story also contains an element of romance between Bree and Matt. Bree has also become the guardian of her niece and nephew, and family relationships are also explored. In the end, the mystery is solved, and the murderer is revealed. This is a very satisfying read, and I recommend it.

Sheriff Taggert (Bree) has her hands full after a suicide is determined to actually be murder. Then after a second murder occurs, things get even more confusing. I liked the extra little twists along the way and glimpses of Bree's personal life. Ms. Leigh always does a great job of balancing story and character development in her books and this one was no exception. I know these are categorized as "romance" books but I truly appreciate how well-rounded the stories are and that the romance plays second fiddle to a really good mystery that keeps me engaged! I can't wait to see what is next for Bree and Matt!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Drown Her Sorrows by Melinda Leigh that I read and reviewed.
This is the third book in the Bree Taggert series and it picks up where the others left off. Bree is a kick butt sheriff that is taking care of her town and her niece and nephew after the murder of her sister. I really enjoyed this book because it was fun to see characters from other series by Leigh make brief appearances to help with this case.
This book was an excellent read that shocked me at the end. I am giving it five out of five stars!

Bree Taggert is back in another fast paced mystery. As two interconnected murders hit Grey's Hollow, Bree and her team try to puzzle out who is the culprit.
This is a great series with many twists and turns to keep me guessing. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series to see the continuing developments in Bree's personal life.

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for providing a copy of this book for review.

Aptly named book as the cover and blurb suck you in! Third in a series but easily a stand alone. An excellent thriller and I would definitely read more by this author!

What did I like? I like a decent read that just sucks you in and this one did just that. Bree is pulled to a scene of an abandoned car, keys still in, and personal belongings still there. As she wanders the scene more details come forward. As simple as the scene reads as the days follow more things start to be questioned and more bodies turn up. This was a fun drama filled thriller and a twist in the ending I didn’t see coming! Five stars!

Would I recommend or buy? I’d love to read the full series. Sheriff Bree Taggert makes an excellent foe to criminals and this book was a fantastic read! I’d recommend to anyone who loves a small town thriller mystery!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review! Five stars!

This is the third and best book so far in the Bree Taggert series.
The body of a woman is found at the edge of the river. During the investigation Bree runs into roadblocks from almost everyone involved and things are not adding up.

The romance between Bree and Matt are heating up a little bit. Super slow burn.

“I’ve missed you.” As he said the words, it struck him how true they were. She rose on her toes and kissed him back. “I’ve missed us.”

Their relationship was progressing toward a physical one, but he would not rush a single step, and this was not the time.

I sure didn’t see that shocking ending coming. Grab your copy and dive in now!!

Four solid stars for this thriller with heart and fantastic characters. “Drown her Sorrows” (Bree Taggert, #3), by Melinda Leigh (Montlake), is a wonderful book where suspense mingles with a very slow burn romance, and realistic, relatable, well developed characters keep the reading always enjoyable.
Besides the gripping suspense plot, Leigh writes characters with depth and substance, creating empathy and familiarity (at least with the good guys).
Bree Taggert – sheriff, sister, aunt, girlfriend - is an amazing heroine, strong, smart, confident, yet very vulnerable.
I love how the author takes time to show the deep emotional bonds Bree and Matt are forging with each other and how strong ties, not without problems, are also replicated within their families and with their friends.
The growing intimacy between Bree and Matt and the other social interactions are so engaging to watch, they feel very authentic.
There are some secondary characters who are very likeable and a few sound intriguing and deserve romance, too – Dana, Adam, Nolan, Todd, Cady - and I’d love to see more of them in the next stories.
The role dogs play in the series is great, too, and I enjoyed Bree’s gradual opening to some, despite her trauma.
I loved Lance and Morgan’s (from the Morgan Dane series) appearances, and hope to meet Lincoln Sharp and Olivia again.
I appreciated that even the villains have complex personalities.

Drown Her Sorrows is the third installment in the Bree Taggert series by Melinda Leigh.

Bree Taggert discovers a female body on the banks of a river. Circumstances suggest suicide but the autopsy reveals the truth, it was murder.

Bree investigates the case alongside her boyfriend, and part-time investigative consultant, Matt Flynn. The deceased’s personal life was complicated and too many people have a motive for murder. Then, another murder occurs and the chase to find the killer(s) is on.

I would never intentionally start a series in the middle, I always suggest starting with book 1. However, the romance between Bree and Matt is moving at a glacial pace – and timeline-wise we are only four months out from book 1 – so you wouldn’t be missing out on much starting here rather than book 1.

Bree is a great character, she’s smart and competent at her job but she’s human and struggles with juggling her newfound parental responsibilities and her job. We haven’t really learned too much about the other characters yet. We know the most about Matt, he’s solid and dependable and a little wary of law enforcement after the way he was treated in the past. We learn more about Matt’s sister Cady in this book, plus we meet his parents. Todd is Bree’s solid right-hand man at work but we do not know too much about him. Dana is Bree’s former partner, from Philadelphia, who moved in with her to help her raise her niece and nephew. Other than cooking or helping with the kids, we have not learned much about her.

I definitely hope this series is going to be around for a while because there is still so much to be discovered about the various supporting characters and Bree still has a lot of room for growth.

A lot of the author’s books are set around the same geographical location, so sometimes a character from another series pops-up and that’s always a nice treat.

The books are pretty fast-paced, well written, and always leaving you wanting the next one immediately. I was surprised by the reveal of the killer which is always nice!

I highly recommend this series and suggestion checking out the author’s other works once you’re done.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Drown Her Sorrows' by Melinda Leigh.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Montlake publishers and Melinda Leigh.

Publication date 16th March 2021.

This is the third book I have read by this author. It is also the third book in the 'Bree Taggert' series. I have read the first book in this series 'Cross Her Heart' and the third book in the 'Widow's Island' series 'Whisper Of Bones' and highly recommend both series.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and beautiful cover and its intriguing synopsis. I have also previously read 'Cross her heart' and 'Whisper Of Bones' by Melinda which I loved so am hoping this will be just as good. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Montlake. I have yet to read a book published by Montlake that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of 43 chapters. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in New York, USA🇺🇸.

This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Sheriff Bree Taggert and Matt. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. With there being several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on.

Well, well, well Melinda does it again!!! Another page turning success, well done!! Extremely well written as with all her previous books I have read with vivid descriptions putting you straight in the heart of the action. The synopsis and cover work perfectly with the storyline.

The storyline is absolutely action packed throughout and filled with suspense, tension and red herrings. I would never in a million years have expected thay HUMONGOUS twist at the end, LOVE it!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me with every crime book I read but this one caught me a cracker. The pace of the storyline was perfect and I was absolutely hooked from the start to the finish. Everything was explained at the end so no loose ends leaving you wondering what happened and why, nothing worse than that in my opinion. The storyline was also realistic which helps make it easier to picture everything that is going on.

I loved meeting Bree and Matt again, and of course Brody!!! They are such strong, well deigned and realistic characters who work perfectly together. I really hope that their relationship continues to grow. However, it wasn't only the main characters that I enjoyed meeting again but the "side" characters also have such strong and unique personalities that they also feel like "part of the family" now, Dana, Todd, the rescue gang and Cady plus more. Bree is such a kick a** warrior and even with her injuries she just keeps on going, she really is a force to be reckoned with. Matt is just absolutely scummy and a perfect gent. As for Brody, well who doesn't love a hero dog!!! I cannot wait to meet the fan in the next installment of this immense series!!!

If you haven't read any of this amazing and extremely successful authors books yet you really are missing out. Each of her books that I have read so far are packed with intricate twists, heart stopping storylines and whoop butt women and I would love to see each one made into a movie. She is one of my favourite authors and I wait with baited breathe for the next adventure.

Although this book is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone although if you want more detailed information on each of the characters and where their relationships started I would read in order. In fact, I've read the first and this one and need to go back to read the second ASAP.

Overall a true page turning, gripping and addictive series with a mind blowing ending that must be read!!!

Genres covered in this novel include
Mystery, Suspense and Crime Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as anyone, especially thise interested in crime, murder, mystery and fans of Melinda Leigh and of books with strong female roles.

312 pages.

This book is just £3.49 to purchase on kindle via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5/5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

The third book in the Bree Taggert series. Bree discovers a body of a woman in the river. The note in the woman's car suggests a suicide but pretty soon the investigation determines that she was murdered. The victim, Holly, had a bad marriage, a strained relationship with her sister and a possible affair with her boss. Bree and Matt have a lot of suspects to choose from.
I think this is my favorite book in this series so far. I loved how much relationship development we got. Bree's brother Adam moved close so he could help out with the kids. Him and Bree were never that close but now they become proper siblings. It was so lovely to see Bree open up to people more and leg them in. Not only her brother but also her Chief deputy Todd, he was in this book a lot and I hope it continues to be a trend in the next books. We also get to see Matt's family, especially his sister Cady. Cady is such a sweetheart I just can't, that woman has a heart too big for this world.
Bree and Matt's relationship is gets further developed here as well. But it is still a slow burn despite them being a couple.
The plot was also really good. I had a vague idea of who the killer might be. In a small way I was correct but also not correct at all lol. Can't explain that without going into spoilers.
This was a great installment of a great series and I can't wait for more.
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another solid installment in the Bree Taggert series! I really enjoy Melinda Leigh's books - great page turners with well-rounded characters. Fast paced, suspenseful, and full of twists I didn't see coming!

Another great addition to the series. When Sherriff Bree Tagart discovers the body of a woman in the Scarlet River it is first thought to be a suicide. But the autopsy suggests murder so Bree and her team investigate in this intriguing mystery. As with all Melinda Leigh’s books it is a real page turner full of twists and turns. Bree is fast becoming one of my favourite characters, cant wait for the next instalment.

I love Melinda Leigh books because and pardon the pun she kills the police procedural stuff from the crime scene to the investigation to the autopsy every detail is meticulous and sucks me in, and on top of that the storylines always keeps me guessing.

And book three in the Bree Taggert series is no different, even if it did get off to a bit of a slow start. Yet, it soon picked up and after a couple of chapters, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, and the mystery as to who murdered Holly Thorpe and why was top-notch.

Additionally, the characters and Bree's personal situation as she navigates caring for her niece and nephew, reconnecting with her brother Adam, mourning her sister Erin and starting a relationship with former deputy Matt, all added another layer to what was a confounding and enthralling story. And I'm really excited for what comes next and would happily recommend DROWN HER SORROWS to others.
