"A Real Friend" is an age-appropriate story for young kids about friendship, disagreements, and making-up after a fight. Max and Benny are very related little boys who disagree about how to play together. They get in a huge fight and stop being friends. So they build their own ideal robot friend. But, they realize that a robot doesn't replace a true friend. In the spirit of true friendship, they make up and play together again.
This is a great read for kids who are struggling with sharing and playing well with others. A short read with fun pictures and relatable characters makes it the perfect book for schools and at home!
This was a cute book about friendship and how even though it may be hard at times to find a balance in our relationships with others, it’s important to recognize that we can’t always have our way or always agree upon everything, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be friends. I read this to my 5 year old daughter and she loved it! Very cute book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Two friends, Benny and Max, have a fight one day, and have a friend break up. Benny builds himself a new best friend, a robot-looking construction made of stuff he finds around the house. It's fun for a while, but it soon gets boring. After deciding he misses Max, he takes his robot and goes to see if Max will be his friend again, and finds Max made himself a new friend too, and they spend the day playing together. The story shows that sometimes even the best of friends can have problems and get upset with each other, something anyone and everyone can relate to. The art is cute and engaging, and adds a lot to the story. This would make a good book for storytime with a group of kids, with discussion afterward.

An adorably perfect story about the rocky road friendships can take. Benny and Max do everything together but by doing so they get agitated and angry. They part ways but realize after awhile that they really liked their friend even when things weren’t so good.
I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Benny and Max are best friends, but they get into a fight one day because they cannot get along. Benny decides to make a new best friend out of recycled material and names it Jax. Benny decides that it's not as fun with his new friend as it was with his old best friend, so Benny goes to Max's house where Max has also built a new best friend robot. This is a cute little story that has really vibrant illustrations. The storyline is also easy to follow along with.
I liked this! It teaches kids that they can be best friends and still get on each other's nerves sometimes. It shows that always doing the same thing gets boring. It's about having a quarrel and then making up and friendship. Good for school-aged children, I'd say 4-7yo.
A Real Friend is a sweet story about two friends who have a disagreement, stop talking for a while, and come back together as friends. Good story for introducing conflict-resolution skills. Nice illustrations as well. As an elementary school teacher, I think this would be a good addition to a classroom library.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
A Real Friend is a lovely children's picture book about real friendships and how friends can fall out or disagree and still be friends.
The message in this book is simple for children to understand and perceive from the story and will make children feel happy at the end. Children reading this will more often than not be able to relate to the story with experiences of friendships themselves and the book will make a great discussion point for a class or children with friendship problems.
"A Real Friend" had a good lesson about friendship - sometimes you don't always get what you want - and that's what makes the friendship interesting.
I thought that this book was great!
It is a well written story with some lovely illustrations.
The book was easy to read and easy to follow and I think it fits the target age group perfectly too.
It is 5 stars from me for this one – very highly recommended!
This would be a great book for any family to have in their home library when their child inevitably had a disagreement with a friend or sibling. The story was simple, but would easily hold a child’s attention. The illustrations were cute and detailed. I do with the book would have shown the two friends apologizing to each other.
A cute picture book surrounding friendship and what constitutes a real friend. I found this book to be an utter delight.
Cute. Real depiction of impulsive language. Seemed too mature for the young children, and their reconciliation was brief.
A cute book for children in preschool. The story is about a child named Benny and his best friend Max. Benny wants a new best friend because Max has been annoying him lately. After the children get into a fight Benny makes a new best friend, Jax. Benny realizes that he misses Max and they end up making up. This is a cute story that you can introduce compromising to children.
This story is great for preschoolers and kindergarteners. It's perfect for discussing boundaries and what it means to be a good friend.
A Real Friend is an easily understandable quick story I read to my 4 year old granddaughter that is quick to pout with her best friend from preschool.
This put it well for her to understand how after you get to do everything YOUR way, that it’s not as much fun without your best friend and how you can apologize (or just sleep on it and begin again tomorrow) and be friends again.
I feel pretty sure we’ll be reading this book often!
I love the idea of this story and it is executed nicely. I enjoyed the moral of the story as well, especially for my son who is a toddler.
The illustrations are stylized with lots of color and movement. I would buy this book for my sons bookcase.
Thank you .Netgalley for the free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A nice little book that sheds light on how littles sometimes need some space and that's ok. I appreciated that the book made taking a break from screens a focal point by creating robots and being crafty. I also liked how Benny & Max found a way to get back to being best friends along with the homemade robots! Filled with super cute illustrations & overall I think its a good books that kiddos can relate to & that can start up some really great conversations about feelings & how to work through them the right way.
A Real Friend is a story about two friends who are together all the time, and end of taking some space apart. While spending time without each other, they realize they miss each other’s company and reunite as friends again.
I love that this book had some real life examples of why kids get annoyed with each other. The main character is tired of waiting his turn, always playing the same game, and not getting to choose things like what they eat for lunch. When they fight, they are saying things kids actually say to each other, which makes it relatable to young children.
I think the only thing that stuck out to me that I’d like to see in this book is conflict resolution. When the characters come together at the end, there is no “sorry” or discussion I their fight. Maybe that’s a comment on how kids forget and move on easily? It would have been nice to have the story wrapped up in a little bow for readers!
Either way, this story is relatable, interesting, and the illustrations are lovely!
Benny and Max are best friends, but lately, Max has really been bugging Benny. After an argument one day, Max and Benny decide that they aren’t friends anymore. Benny gathers odds and ends and builds a new best friend for himself. His name is Jax, and he always does whatever Benny wants. But after a while, Benny gets bored and misses the things he used to do with Max. He goes to Max’s house and introduces Max to Jax. It turns out that Max also built a new friend for himself named Lenny. The two real boys are best friends again, and they spend the rest of the day playing together with their robots. This is a feel-good story that would work well in a storytime with a robot theme or a generic friendship theme.
