Love a good standalone. I can't do books in series anymore my attention just doesn't work for it anymore lol. But the characters were developed and not half done. Love modern mythology with lots of twists! 100% would recommend to my friends.

An interesting take on the world of mythology from a terrifying perspective. This reminds me a bit of reading Gaiman's American Gods, but with a less vague telling of the descendants of the powers.

I LOVED THIS BOOK WITH EVERYTHING IN ME! My top book of 2021 so far! I handsell this one regularly, and I will forever have a special place in my heart for it. Such an interesting and fantastic take on Greek mythology!

DNF @ 40%
I tried....I really did but its just a snooze fest. I don't are about any of these characters and if I read false god, new god, imposter god in one more sentence I might claw my eyes out. We get it! I gave this 184 pages and I just can't turn another one because I do not care to see where this is going or why Lore is so important....not to mention how misogynistic this whole thing is. I just can't with that right now.

Many have loved this....but I just don't get the love. Time to move on

DNF at 192 pages, 40% in. Just not the book for me. It was very heavy with the info dump and in the end I didn’t care about the character at all. So many have loved it so a case of me, not you. Definitely pick this up if it sounds good to you and don’t just trust me.

A great start to summer reading: light, fun, Greek mythology, friendship and rites of passage.

Highly recommended buddy read or book club selection.

To be honest, I was a little confused with all the houses and families when I first started reading, but it quickly became clear who belonged together.

I enjoyed this mix of modern times with ancient gods and goddesses. I was definitely surprised by the twist near the end and wondered how I didn't see it, but If Lore missed it I don't feel as bad. I love the connections between Lore and those she puts her faith in.

Let's see if I can give a synapsis without any reveals. Lore is the last of her family. Her parents and two younger sisters were killed, leaving her all alone to fend for herself. She is part of an ancient line that takes part of a "hunt" every seven years and her only job during the time of the hunt is to stay away and stay safe, she doesn't want to participate. But, as fate determines, she is not only pulled in, she is the focus of the hunt and has several hunters from several "houses" or family-lines. Lore has to decide who to trust, and whether to stay hidden or try to find the person(s) guilty for the deaths of her family.

Being a history buff, and interested in Greek and Roman gods and goddesses, this is the perfect book to read! The author, Alexandra Bracken weaves mythology with modern NY life seamlessly. She ties together stories I have heard and adds the twists necessary to make Lore's ordeal seem believable. I will be recommending this book to my advanced readers. I think it will excite them and make them interested in learning more about traditional mythology.

I was given the opportunity to read this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Ye gods, this book was incredible! Bracken knows how to craft a thrilling adventure and sizzling romantic tension, so she delivers an excellent addition to the YA ranks. If you're looking for something blood thirsty (and maybe a smidgeon thirsty *wink*), look no further!

Every seven years, the Agon begins. As punishment for a past rebellion, nine Greek gods are forced to walk the earth as mortals, hunted by the descendants of ancient bloodlines, all eager to kill a god and seize their divine power and immortality.
Long ago, Lore Perseous fled that brutal world in the wake of her family's sadistic murder by a rival line, turning her back on the hunt's promises of eternal glory. For years she's pushed away any thought of revenge against the man--now a god--responsible for their deaths.
Lore is a novel that takes a very interesting look at retelling Greek Mythology. Set in modern day NYC, the ancient bloodlines of famous Greek heroes are still fighting each other for the powers of gods that Zeus promised them millennia ago. While the story stretches these original myths, it is also very original in its telling.

This book is absolutely perfect for fans of the Percy Jackson series that have grown up a bit! It was fun to delve back into the world of Greek Mythology, and I think that Bracken went about it in a really interesting way. This book was absolutely brutal, and I loved it! I like that Bracken was unafraid to go there with a YA novel. The fast pacing made me unable to put this book down until I was finished, and the characters were just interesting enough to keep me intrigued. I do think Lore could have benefitted from exploring its characters a bit more because I wasn't totally invested in them, but that did not bother me as much as it could have. All in all, I found Lore to be an interesting read, and I can't recommend it enough to those who enjoy mythology retellings!

LORE was nothing I expected, but everything I didn’t know I needed! I loved Alexandra Bracken’s writing, and the story itself was so original and intriguing for the entire length of the book. I’ll definitely look into her other novels!

This book was amazing. I couldn't put it down. If you love mythology then this is the book for you. It brings mythology to the the present day with twists and turns you won't see coming. Alexandra Bracken did an amazing job with this one. Easy young adult novel to read. The ending is well constructed and doesn't end in a cliffhanger. Lore, is an easy-to-root for heroine - she's strong, feisty and works through her flaws as well. Even if you're not super into Greek mythology this is a book you won't be able to put down.

Loved seeing a book based on mythology coming out and I'm looking forward to trying it again, but unfortunately, for my first go around, it just didn't hold my attention. I'm hoping it was my mood more than it is the writing. So far, I'm enjoying the world building and how it is all set up and the characters are definitely intriguing.

Now to start off my review like I always do with a huge thank you to the publisher Hyperion-Disney Publishing Worldwide ,the author Alexandra Bracken , and to NetGalley as well as a think once again to Taylor for picking it and for making me finally reading , since she's been telling me to pick it up ever since I told her I had it from NetGalley and still hadn't read it lol. And here's the thing I don't know why it took me this long to read it has everything in that I love which is :

!; Young Adult

2:Greek Mythology

3:Urban Fantasy - one of my go to genres when I want to get lost in a story

4:Romance

And the cover is beautiful which is what made me request it as soon as I saw it. The only 2 things I can thing up for not waiting to pick it is I wasn't in the mood for it at the time and 2nd it also be that while I liked her book The Darkest Minds it took me a while to get into the story , while with this one just after starting it and read like 5 to 6 pages I was hooked , and as soon as I message Taylor that , in my mind I could see her doing a happy dance . As for the story I loved it , I loved how she wrote the story line , how she set up her world so that it was easy to fellow and just get lost in , and the characters were well written, and my absolute favorite was Lore , how she was there for friends no matter what, her love for her family , and her love for her family's history .

Lore is a wonderful story written in present day New York with legends, Gods, and heroes from ancient mythology.

The main character, Lore, is sometimes a little too much for even herself and really doesn't know what she wants even while saying that she does. I really like the development and growth that she shows during the progression through the story. It also gives an air of uncertainty with where the story will go and what she will do next.

The love and friendship between lore and many of the other characters in this book reflects real life relationships and the hardships that sometimes come from real life events and lapses in morel. I really like that the dynamics are shown throughout the book of how true friends exhibit behaviors of forgiveness and guilt.

I really enjoyed the story in this YA fantasy and I would enjoy a sequel if that is what Alexandra has planned.

Lore is brimming with a thrilling take on Greek mythology that many know and love. Following our protagonist, Lore, readers are entrenched in the messiness and brutality of the gods and those meant to hunt them and their descendants down. It is a fast-paced whirlwind of action, mythology and world-building, Lore is hard to put down!

Thank you to the publishers and netgalley for providing me with an e-arc!

Lore was absolutely amazing, and I loved every second of it. The worldbuilding felt very fresh despite the abundance of greek mythology retellings in the market and the premise pulled me in from the start. The characters were well written, and my absolute favorite was Lore, she's completely badass. I'm sad that this is a standalone, but I look forward to whatever the author will be writing next!

The Hunger Games meets The Illiad in this world where Greek gods take forms of human bodies or are reborn within mortal bodies as new gods (if a "hunter" or Agon participant is able to murder a god) and ravage modern cities in a combat to the death. Lore does not want to be a part of the Agon. After the brutal death of her entire family, she does not want to be in the world of Greek gods and hunters. But it is inevitable and she is pulled into the Agon by Castor, who she has not seen in 7 years, by Athena, who shows up bloody on her front porch, and now with the promise to defeat the god who murdered her entire family.

The concept was really interesting in an imagining of Greek gods in a mortal world--especially with all the shenanigans the gods would be up to in the legends. Told in third-person from Lore's perspective, original gods and new gods battle for the aegis, which everyone believes is in Lore's possession. It's a rag-tag group of a reluctant hero, Lore, her mortal bff, Van, a new god, Castor, Castor's messenger, and an original god, Athena, as they race around NYC fighting and fleeing from Artemis and Wrath. They don't know who to trust, or even if they can trust each other.

Now, writing action and fight scenes is difficult and Bracken met the challenge with some success. There were still some points where I couldn't fully imagine the physical combatting. The twists (and untwists...?) were somewhat predictable to the point where I didn't care about fatal wounds. The love interests--Lore & Castor - Iro & Van--was also predictable, which made me try to find the ~why~ behind their attraction and I just...couldn't. For the length of this book, there were many points that could have been better developed, but rather we get a lot of similar scenes, dialogue, and action sequences...to the point where I felt I was experiencing deja vu. A few 100 pages could have been cut out or replaced with more fleshed-out character development. A good book for Greek mythology/hero/adventure fans.

This is truly The Hunger Games + Percy Jackson, and I would recommend it for older teen readers due to the violence and mature content. Lore seems like a normal young woman, but she's actually an outcast from an ancient competition that pits descendants of greek heroes against gods. There's a romance between Lore and her childhood friend who mysteriously has assumed the power of the god Apollo, and a quest to find a mysterious ancient artifact. I struggled with the violence in this book, but I could see the appeal for some older teen readers.
