Cassandra is called back to her family home in Toronto following the death of her cousin Chevy. It takes her back to a home that is crowded with relatives and half remembered memories. And they are all brought to the surface whether they are wanted or not.
For me this book was a slow burner. It wasn’t until about 35% of the way through that I felt as though it was coming to life and I became invested in the story. It could have been the way all speech was written, as it took me a while to tune myself into it. This book explores the different ways of grieving, how keeping everything bottled up doesn’t help, and how grievances get exaggerated if not dealt with. It also highlights how dysfunctional relationships can become if so many secrets are kept. Although I still don’t know if I enjoyed it, it is certainly well written, and a powerful subject tackled really well. 3 1/2 ⭐️
