Sometimes, books that are picked up on a whim turn out to be pleasant surprises. This was one of them.
The Gremillet sisters are a trio with each individual having strong and distinct characteristics. Sarah, the eldest, is the nurturer. Cassiopeia, the middle sibling is the dreamer, and the youngest Lucille is an animal lover. They have tussles with each other like typical sisters do, but what unites them is their quest to find out about Sarah's Dream.
The whole story goes by in a jiffy. The illustrations are absolutely awesome and the ending is quite unexpected. Overall, a very interesting read. I just wish the eldest had been given some fancier name. Next to Cassiopeia and Lucille, Sarah sounds positively bland. However, that's a minor quibble. The story and the writing definitely make the book appealing.
I received an advance review copy of the book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Lucille, the cat girl, Sarah, the mother hen, and Cassiopeia, the romantic, three unique sisters who wanted to surprise their mom for mother’s day. But Sarah’s question, which stems from her recurring dream, which was driving her nuts, seems to have thrown her for a loop, resulting in their mother abandoning them for the day. Left to their own device, they venture into the Attic on the hunt for answers. The clues they found led them to an unexpected secret. This has been a fun, interesting, and intriguing kids mystery comics, one I quite enjoyed.
Wow wow wow
It's so rare that you get to read a story where you're just stunned. This is a short graphic novel, but it already speaks more volumes than many other books. I checked this out on netgalley and I'm so grateful i did. The art style was stunning. The lines were simple, yet well constructed. The whole scenery and vibe of the graphic novel is just ... magical.
The story itself deals with family and sisterhood. 3 sisters, with distinct personality. I loved the whole sister dynamic, probably my favorite thing about the book.
I really hope their are more volumes of this because it left me wanting more
I received a free copy of this book on NetGalley.
This is a beautifully illustrated middle grade graphic novel. I loved how detailed each panel of the story was. The use of colour was gorgeous and added to the mood and atmosphere of the story telling.
I really liked the characters and their sisterly adventure to find out about their mother’s past. I found the plot intriguing and a wonderful story. Great story telling and brilliant characters. I’m keen to see more of Giovanni Di Gregorio & Alessandro Barbucci’s work.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, I think it is a beautiful book. I’m so happy I got to read this.
I LOVED this comic. Utterly gorgeous art, hints of a interesting universe different than our own, an air of discovery and mystery, an interesting story about secrets and family dynamics, and a fun group of sisters (and a mother, and the mother's friends) each with their own stories and personalities. Well drawn cats too. Highly recommended.
An ARC was provided by NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.
This graphic novel is a very cute, short story. The art is amazing and it was a joy to look at.
The story follows three sisters and their mom as mother’s day is coming up.
The tree sisters could not be any more different, Sarah, the eldest feels a responsibility to lead them, Cassiopeia would much rather talk about boys and Lucille’s whole world is revolving around cats (a girl after my own heart). Sarah has a recurring dream, which spurs the sistets on a mission to learn more abour their Mom’s past. They make plans for mother’s day, investigate their mom’s past and learn more about her and themselves. This was narrated in such a warm, loving way it was a joy to read.
One thing that felt off is that it is never addressed where the Dad is, and their Mom was pretty quick to just leave all kids at home when she felt like she needed a breather.
A short read with gorgeous artwork. I was hooked from the beginning, when the mother would evade Sarah’s questions and when she mentioned her dreams of jellyfish and a mysterious tree. I wanted to know what secret the mother is hiding but the reveal was a bit underwhelming, and the mother’s friends didn’t really serve a purpose in the end. Each sister was great though, and I loved each of their individual personalities.
I really really loved the art in this graphic novel but the story was a bit of a miss for me. I loved all of the sisters and their quirks and their sisterly bond that is in place for parts of the story. I thought Sarah acted a bit unnecessarily snappy towards her sisters at times so I didn’t like her too much. I thought the story would have had a different ending than it did because it had such a magical vibe and such a build-up to the mystery behind the sisters’ mom at the tree. The final reveal was heartwarming but a bit anticlimactic and I read it and realized the book was over. It was a very abrupt ending. I’m curious about what happens in the next volume though so I’ll probably still check it out.
What an adorable little delight!
I decided to check this out for promised amusing sisterhood endeavor where there are 3 sisters who decide to unravel their mother's past- Sarah keeps having a same dream over & over, Cassiopeia lives in her own world of Prince charmings and unicorns and little Lucille has her priorities set—she only likes talking to cats.
It surprised me! I loved it so much, I couldn’t stop grinning after I finished.
The art is absolute gorgeous and I kept going back to admire it more. Those 3 sisters and their interaction is so relatable and funny, anyone who has a sister will definitely love it. The book is short & sweet but has an interesting little twist that’ll sweep you off your feet.
All cute things aside, it also brings to attention the burden of constant reminder of the responsibilities an eldest child bears, how a middle child sometimes feel stuck between being a grown up and being a little one and how hard can it be for the youngest to be able to communicate with their siblings comfortably.
Bless that little Grémillet family (and the jellyfish!)
Thanks to NetGalley and Europe Comics for this eARC in exchange for an honest review!
The art in this book is beautiful. The colours, the lighting, the character designs, the cats (so many cats!).. all of it is just beautiful. I could not stop taking screenshots.
Three sisters live with their mother in a small town - a town for which the word 'picturesque' seems invented. One of the girls has a recurring dream, about a small, crying jellyfish (with big googly eyes - don't worry, everything in this book is devastatingly cute). She wants to find out what it could mean, and slowly makes the discovery that it has something to do with their mother's past.
It's a really sweet story, and its resolution is a perfect combination of heartwarming and sad. I was really surprised by how much it moved me.
I'd love to read more in this series, and I think you will too.

Sarah's Dream is such a cute graphic novel. It follows the Grémillet Sisters, Sarah, Cassiopeia and Lucille, who are very different from each other but have something in common: they love her mother very much. Lately, Sarah have been dreaming about jellyfishes and trees, and while searching her mother's past, they discover a photo that makes no sense.
Well, now to the graphic novel per se. As I said, it's really cute. The art is amazing (I just discovered the artist worked in W.I.T.C.H. and it makes so much sense!), and the color is really warm and gives the pages an almost familiar sensation, as if you were inside them. And even though I liked the story greatly, I think that maybe it could have been explored more. It was really short and the pace of the story very fast, and I wish to know more about... everything. Yes, we see how the sisters are, but the only one who is really explored is Cassiopeia. Sarah and Lucille are not that developed, their mother less. I know that some things are shown on the pictures, but some more dialogues (or maybe a narration) would be awesome.
Anyway, I really liked it and I wish to continue reading about these sisters!
Oof, from just looking at the cover I really thought that I would end up liking The Grémillet Sisters: Sarah's Story by Giovanni Di Gregorio. With some of the most gorgeous illustrations I've ever seen by Alessandro Barbucci, I really thought that this book was going to head in a rather fascinating direction. I mean, honestly, just by looking at it you really find yourself expecting a fantasy story. Well, aside from some weird dreams...there's nothing magical about this one.
The Story
This is something I really chock up to personal preference. I honestly just did not care one iota about the story. It's definitely intriguing, at first. But I think I built up in my head some fantastical plot and was seriously let down when it turned out to be something well, ordinary.
For a book with such extraordinary artwork, this was such a letdown.
The premise is, more or less, mom has a secret. The girls want to know the secret. After a few strange dreams, the eldest leads her siblings in a raid of their attic under the guise of making a mother's day present. Before you know it, they find a strange picture that doesn't quite make sense. Thus, they set out to find out what it really means.
Illustrations
This is one of those graphic novels that I really expected to love. It all comes down to the art. Quite frankly, I've rarely seen artwork in graphic novels that's as beautiful as the imagery in this book. Barbucci really outshines just about everything I've read. You can tell just from looking at the cover.
Each of the sisters have shining and individual personalities. Barbucci expertly captures all three. The setting pulls you right in. It's incredibly easy to fall in love with. As a result, I kind of feel that the biggest problem with this graphic novel really lies in the fact that the fantastical nature of the artwork just doesn't match the story being told.
I wanted something exceptional, exciting. I wanted magic. But that's not what I got.
In Conclusion
Unfortunately, I was rather disappointed by The Grémillet Sisters. As much as I wanted to love it, the story clearly wasn't one I'd like. I went in expecting a specific tale and ended up with something entirely different. It's not bad, per se, but it's definitely not what I wanted. So, just keep in mind that if you're looking for something ordinary and non-magical, maybe this book is for you. If not? Well, you should probably pass.

5/5 stars.
What a cute, beautiful read.
This is a children’s book but somehow it deals with adult problems and daily life. We follow these three sisters and they are really different from each other. We have Sarah, the eldest. She always feels like she is responsible for her sisters and she has to take care of them. She has weird dreams involving a mystery tree, a greenhouse and a jellyfish. She always wakes up in the same moment and she is determined to find out what the dream means.
We have Lucille who is the youngest one and she is in love with animals and obsessed with cats. She believes animals are better than humans and she is sad bc her sisters fight a lot.
And then we have Cassiopeia who is always dreaming and in her own world full of unicorns, princess and rainbows. She is cute but she fights with Sarah sometimes.
The book is basically the 3 sisters trying to find out what happened to her mom when she was younger and what Sarah’s dream means while they try to make a present for her mom for Mother’s Day.
The art is amazing. I want to be inside that world and find out if the city is real so I can visit it. The story is really quick and cute. I loved the lesson in the end. Her mom had a miscarriage when she was pregnant for the first time and she is still grieving. She broke up with her boyfriend back then and she still thinks about her first daughter, the one she lost. She can’t handle Mother’s Day bc of that reason and now the sisters know about the little jellyfish that tried to do anything to meet them and be a part of the sisters club. It was really powerful and I got really emotional by the end. I highly recommend you this book.
I have to start by saying this is the most visually stunning graphic novel I've ever read. The illustration style, the colours, the whimsical feel.. It was absolutely beautiful! The story was equally lovely, depicting the ups and downs of sisterhood. What begins as a fun and adventurous tale leads to a moving and poignant ending. The family dynamics were so heartwarming, and I was truely captured from start to finish.
OMG the art in this one is absolutely gorgeous! The story of these three sisters is beautifully done. It starts off with fantastical elements in dreams and the imagination of these three girls. I did not guess the direction it was going and while it wasn't quite as whimsical as the girls might think, it was emotionally powerful. I love that the girls were spirited and sassy with so much love for each other and their mother. I would definitely pick up another edition with these girls.
Thank you netgalley and the author for the book!
It was such a pretty book and with a beautiful message, blood is stronger than everything else.
Sure this is a child book and I would've loved if we had more depth in it but overall it was a good warm reading

Stunning illustrations in this first story with the Greillet Sisters. The story itself was good but focused more on the mothers past than the sisters but since it is the first book I hope there will be more with the sisters in the future.
I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This is such a cute story about three sisters, and I enjoyed the cameo toys in the first pages. Seeing this is volume 1, I'm eager for the next installment. :)
Hello, how are you? Are we all doing okay?
The other day I picked up the first volume of the Golden Sheep finally and I do not know but it feels like it suddenly made me want to read more graphic novels and manga. This resulted in me spending several hours on my Netgalley and Hoopla last night reading like five or so graphic novels, and I had the best most relaxing time. Just picking up random graphic novels, getting immersed in beautiful stories for a time and having time to read the whole thing or more than one before having to go to sleep! The Gremillet Sisters caught my eye and I just dove right in and honestly I loved it so much I am really hoping there is another volume and sometime soon.
SPOILERS AHEAD
Three sisters Cassiopeia, Lucille, and Sarah used to be the best of friends. But now they are getting a little older, developing their own interests, and having more arguments but when the oldest sister Sarah has an idea for the best mother’s day gift ever they decide to work together to make it happen! The three girls spend time trying to learn all they can about their mother, and for Sarah this means learning about her dream. Every night she has a dream where there are jellyfish, a big tree, and something to do with her mother. When the girls begin to find pictures of their mother for the present they are making, they find one that looks like it would be right out of Sarah’s dream. Sarah knows she must investigate but her sisters are not as interested in investigating as they are in making the gift! Can the girls make the perfect mother’s day gift and figure out what their mother is hiding from them?
I absolutely loved this graphic novel. Like I went to Amazon as soon as I finished reading to see if this would be made into physical copies or something I could purchase. The art is stunning inside, the colors, the lines, everything about it is just so beautiful. I love each and every character in this story and I really enjoy how they each have their own personality that shows through. (Also, as a cat lover, I thought the little sister was adorable)! The story is amazing as well. I love the plot line of the sisters, of each girl having their own things but trying to come together, and their big mystery/present situation. I am hoping (like fingers crossed) that there will be another volume.

**Thank you so much to the publisher for the E-ARC
Absolutely loved this. Firstly it’s so beautifully illustrated and the story is so lovely about the three sisters. I hope there will be more!
The story was filled with so much love and surprise and I cannot get enough of this! Can we get the second one RIGHT NOW? <3
