The Age of Innocence won the Pulitzer Prize in 1921. I hadn't read it since high school and was excited to get an ARC of an upcoming edition. It's such a different world than the one we live in, where everything is scandalous and you have to do your duty and toe the line. It's a classic for a reason, and should be read by everyone.
This new edition of the The Age of Innocence has been given a modern make over. This hardcover edition is eye-catching and visually appealing to the reader. A wonderful addition to any collection.
It is clear why The Age of Innocence is a classic. Wharton writes of society people in 1870s New York and a scandalous love triangle in a remarkable way. Will Archer choose his suitable match from a good family or the passionate love he finds with her exotic, scandalized cousin? Wharton’s writing is layered with irony you might not notice the first time around, but you’ll appreciate even more the second. I cannot recommend this classic enough!
