This one just felt too slow and like nothing was happening even as I turned the pages... Wasn't very entertaining as a result
I enjoyed this book so much, everything was just so perfect, it's been ages since I've read a book by this author I'm so excited to read more, it was such a feel book book with the most perfect ending.
Lovely feel good book to read. It was a joy to read. Lovely characters. Great plot. The book was charming. Very well written. I’d definitely recommend this book
I absolutely love all of the books in this series and this one is once of the best. Molly is a great central character although it is great to see some of the characters from previous books popping up. Lovely storyline with a few twists and plenty of humour, a story that leaves you with a lovely warm feeling. Bring on the next one!
Primrose Park by Christie Barlow
Vet Molly Mckendrick is very career focused and when on a course about dogs with behavioural problems she meets a gorgeous man at the hotel and has a one night stand - all she knows about him is his name is Cam and he is a dentist. Molly being a bit of a soft touch, where animals are concerned she gets roped into taking a young small dog with issues who’s owner has gone into a home and Darling enters her life. When Cam appears suddenly in Heartcross and they bump into each other things don’t go as Molly expects.
I do feel Darling has a staring role in this book especially the part where Molly has her friends round and a small Jack Russell terrorises 3 of Molly’s friends I laughed so much I cried.
This book is a bit of a slow starter but do stick with it as there are so many twists and turns and the underlying stories in the book cover unexpected issues and show all is not always as it seems.
4.5/5
Primrose Park is the sixth in the LoveHeart Lane series and I have to say it’s my favourite book of Christie’s so far. I loved it. Molly McKendrick is such a lovely character but boy does she have a lot thrown at her in life. I loved the beginning when she met Cam the hunky guy from the hotel she was staying in. I also loved how her relationship developed with Darling and Dixie who she came to love a lot.
It was lovely seeing the characters from all the other books pop up and the sense of community really shone through.
There are a couple of real nasty characters in the book as well and they literally made my blood boil with their sinister shenanigans. Especially the way one of them was so judgemental of Molly and expressed his misogyny and sexism.
I was absolutely devastated when I found out what happened to Primrose Park as it all sounded so beautiful and I felt it was almost like a character itself but thankfully there was an amazing outcome to that.
Overall I absolutely loved the story and am already looking forward to the next book I’m the series.
Primrose Park is a charming and delightful hug in a book
I adore Christie Barlows writing and this series of books is one of my favorites. Primrose Park revolves around Molly, who is is a vet and she takes in an unruly dog due to its owner not being able to care for it anymore, but it’s a handful and shenanigans with the dog are just brilliant, so funny. I suppose I should mention the romance which we are meant to be here for, the chemistry is great between Molly and Cam, Cam like all Christie’s male leads is just so amazing, this story is full of heartache and surprises, I won’t say more because I don’t want to ruin it, but it’s just so
full of love and friendship, and its so beautifully written.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Primrose Park is one of a series of books set around Love Heart Lane. That place name is enough to help readers to know if this is a title for them. If a reader enjoys British set romance with likeable characters. this one with its appealing cover should go on the summer reading list.
This entry is about a hardworking vet named Molly who one night does something unexpected and out of character. It seems like it was just a good experience until…some repercussions come close to home. Read the book to learn what happens. You will then probably want to go back to read all of the titles in this series.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this light and pleasant read. All opinions are my own.
This is book 6 in the Love Heart Lane series from Christie Barlow. I have read all of the books in this series, set in the Scottish highland village of Heartcross, and have been looking forward to reading this new addition and catching up with some familiar faces. Although there are always recurring characters in these books, each, including this one, can be read as a standalone. As with the rest of the series, this book has a bright, attractive cover that invites the reader into its pages.
This story centres on vet Molly McKendrick, who lives in Glenshiel, the town neighbouring Heartcross. While attending a conference on dog training, she meets a man to whom she has an immediate attraction that proves to be mutual. After a somewhat passionate evening together, she finds that he has suddenly and completely disappeared. All she knows about him is that he is called Cam and he is a dentist; she can find no trace of him. Three months later, when exercising her dog in local Primrose Park, she bumps into Cam, but he pretends not to remember her and is quite disagreeable. As time goes on, Molly continues to meet Cam from time to time, keen to discuss their evening together. She also becomes quite involved in the Heartcross community and Primrose Park in particular. Although she and Cam have shared interests, can she see a future with this man?
I very much enjoyed this book. It was nice to meet up with some familiar characters from previous stories in this series. There are also a few new people in addition to Molly and Cam, but some of them are not at all pleasant. Molly was a lovely person, but Cam was a little unpredictable, although why came to light as the story progressed. In addition to the humans, there is a loveable little dog in the story, loyal but fierce when the situation demands. I’m sure that other readers will enjoy this book as much as I did and be keen to catch up with the rest of the series if they haven’t already done so.
The importance of friendship
Molly and Cam have a one night stand but Cam runs out straight after leaving no information so imagine Mollys shock when she comes face to face with him in the town she lives in having just found out she is pregnant with his baby!
I loved Molly, she is an intelligent and fun character who is surrounded by friends who love her. She is a vet and struggles when she is told that because her blood pressure is so low that she will need to take time off work but she still follows her doctors advice, and supported by her friends, her maternal instinct kicking in and her baby became her priority. She is liked and respected in her community, able to pull people together when needed. She is an independent and loyal person who stands up for what she believes in and I think that’s a big part of what made me like her so much
There is a big focus in this book on family and friendships with a lot of drama that caught my attention and had me keeping on reading. The support network that most of the characters have makes it feel more real and seeing the community come together following an incident felt like something that would happen in real life which helped me to bond with the other characters in addition to the rest of the community. The only thing I would say is that the story is told from Mollys point of view and although personally I would have loved to have heard from some of the other characters at certain times, it still really worked and had me hooked
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a story full of the love and support of family and friends with a good sprinkle of drama that will keep you reading
Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Suggestion of cheating on a wife
• Assault and attempted rape
• Health concerns during early stages of pregnancy
• Elder abuse
Characters
Molly, who I’d always thought of as a side character in this series, is our main character. We know she’s a kind-hearted, generous vet based in Glensheil who’s single. She’s highly driven and successful in her business and is now looking into offering classes for difficult dogs.
Cam is someone we’ve never met before but quickly learn has history in Heartcross. He’s going through his own difficulties, if I tell you what they are it will ruin the story for you. But it’s definitely juicy!
Some side characters that help make the story what it is are Dixie and her dog Darling. Dixie has recently been put into a care home and so Molly ends up with Darling who isn’t much of a Darling. Let’s just say she makes some of the difficult dogs look well mannered!
Storyline
Molly meets cute guy at a hotel, has a one-night stand and he ditches her before she wakes up in the morning.
Three months later when she’s just had her life turned upside down her mystery man (Cam) rocks up in the most unexpected way possible. He’s nothing like she remembers and is left coming to grips with her sudden change in circumstances, coordinating the village to successfully execute a miracle and figure out what’s happening with Cam.
Overall Thoughts
I think there were a few aspects of this book that missed the mark in a way that I haven’t felt with Christie’s books before. One subject I’m particularly touchy on and I know the vast majority of people would say I’m overreacting while the other one I’d like to hope people would agree with me. Otherwise, the book flows in Christie’s normal balance of comedic moments and the sweet heartfelt connections that you can’t help but gush over. There were even a few times I was tearing up in sadness and happiness, just like you should if you were living those moments. That’s how real Christie made them feel!
The first one is the difficult dog’s stuff. I happen to own a particularly difficult dog and I can assure you; a weekend conference DOES NOT equip you to suddenly be able to say you’re a qualified dog trainer, ESPECIALLY for difficult dogs. There is SO MUCH I could say about this topic because I’ve been living the reality of this for the past 16 months, but this isn’t the time or place to go into those details. My dogs Instagram account is where I talk about that stuff.
The second area that missed the mark was the assault and attempted rape. Why was this not reported to the police? Especially given everything we know about the characters involved; I would have expected that to be reported. Just because the guy had been drinking doesn’t excuse the behaviour. And it did feel like maybe because he had been drinking it was “ok” for him to do that without getting into trouble with the law. We didn’t need to read the actual reporting, just a mention that it had happened would’ve been enough, so I’m quite surprised by that omission.
Another gem by Christie Barlow that reunites loyal readers with familiar characters from the series but can also quite easily be read and very much enjoyed as a stand-alone narrative. When Molly goes on a Work trip and has a one night stand with Cam, she is devastated when she doesn’t hear from him again until her life takes a massive turn. It takes the love of friends and her community to make her realise how lucky she is. And then she runs into Cam again and uncovers some more turmoil and deception. Read it, it’s fantastic!
Another great installment in the Love Heart Lane series. I just love this little village and it’s residents.
This one didn’t start great for me, Molly was a bit strange at first but her character story made sense after a bit. I’m glad she has Isla and others for support.
Once again Christie Barlow has woven a beautiful tale set in Heartcross. Loved reading about Darling and Dixie. It’d be nice to read more about Jan who works in the care home, but I have a feeling a future book will have to feature some of the other mentioned characters.
I look forward to the next installment.
Six books in and I am loving Christie Barlow’s Love Heart Lane series more than ever. There has not been one book in the series that I have not enjoyed and I always eagerly await my return visits to the village of Heartcross in the Scottish Highlands. Primrose Park is the new story that features local vet Molly McKendrick and I think she is the character so far that I have really felt such empathy for. Not that I have been in the situation she found herself in but it was the way that Christie conveyed Molly’s story that really got to me on an emotional level. That’s not to say I didn’t love reading about the previous characters that have predominantly featured, of course I did, but there was that special something that made Molly really get under my skin and I was filled with sadness thinking she would have to go it alone when really she deserved happiness and someone in her life who would value and love her for the incredible person she was.
Molly is a career driven person but in a good way. She runs her own veterinary practice and boarding kennels and is now taking on the role of running dog behavioural classes. No one can say that she doesn’t always want to enhance her knowledge and provide the best service she can. Her love for animals always shines through and her ambition is not shoved in your face. Rather it is celebrated and this is a young woman who knows what she wants in life and is determined to achieve it but not in a ruthless manner like some characters you read about. Instead Molly has such a fantastic personality. She is driven and hardworking, giving it 100% working long hours and always striving to be the best in her field. She has so much going for her but perhaps the one area lacking is her personal life.
She admits she has been happy working away on her career but is now feeling that special someone is missing in her life but so far she has never met him. Molly doesn’t go searching for love, it’s not her ultimate goal in life but suffice to say if Mr. Right came along she wouldn’t be turning him away in a hurry. These feelings of loneliness are starting to creep in and she is becoming jealous of her friends who have all found romance. Molly has so much love to give she now feels ready to let someone in and share this love with them but the clock is ticking. Will she find who she is looking for?
Whilst away at a hotel on a training course in order to run her dog behavioural classes she bumps into a man in the car park and is literally love struck. It’s instant love at first sight for her and she would have previously laughed when she heard people saying this had happened to them. But it seems the stars have aligned for her and a night of passion ensues with Molly feeling things are clicking into place. That is until she wakes up and the man has left her alone. What did she do wrong? Did he not feel the same way? Was she just another notch on his bedpost? Several months pass and Molly continues with her work. She finds herself the temporary owner of a little dog called Darling who certainly doesn’t live up to his name. Rather he is fierce and an ankle biter. His owner Dixie, long term resident of Bumblebee Cottage, located next to the Old Bakehouse, has moved into a nursing home. Birdie, Dixie’s daughter, seemed to foist the dog upon Molly and with her good nature she couldn’t refuse. Darling causes havoc at the dog classes and as he flees he leads Molly to someone she thought she would never see again, Cam, the man she spent the night with and never saw again. But his reaction is far from welcoming, it’s like he doesn’t know her and Molly couldn’t have been more hurt.
I thought Molly really was pinning her everything on one day seeing Cam again and when this wish did become a reality she was just utterly heartbroken that he could be so cruel and callous and act as if he had never set eyes on her before. Molly had believed their emotional and physical connection was off the scale so to be so cruelly rejected like that must have been a harsh blow to take. The story once Cam makes a reappearance moved along at just the right pace and I loved how all the various strands were developed. There was lots going on but at no point did the plot become difficult to keep track off. I thought everything flowed so beautiful and yet at the same time all the little subplots connected back to Molly in some shape or form. She has a lot to deal with and she is very surprised when something unexpected crops up in her life. But I thought how she dealt with it was so admirable given the circumstances. She never put pressure on anyone despite feeling so hurt and being treated as if she was a time waster.
I loved how Molly’s friends rallied around her as she really was going through the mill in more ways than one, Isla, Felicity and Allie have all featured before and I am glad they still get to make an appearance again even though it is Molly’s story to share. They were the ultimate support system to her and the bonds of friendship really shone through in such a lovely way. But at the same time Molly is her own woman and she is determined to dig deeper behind the frosty exterior of Cam and find out just what is going on with him? She wasn't letting him go without a fight yet she wasn’t pushy or demanding of him and as the story developed and things became a little clearer as to why it came across the way he did. I thought Molly showed great patience and it was like she was biding her time.
Molly really did need Cam, the reason for which will become clear when you read this wonderful story, but she knew to go full pelt at him would make him run even further. Cam is a complex character, who when reading this book you will think what’s with all the attitude? Can’t you just be nice to Molly who is such a darling and the most wonderful of people. He just seemed to have so many mood swings and came across as being so abrupt and rude when it was totally unnecessary. I questioned if Molly had truly opened up to him would he have changed his demeanour?
As for the title of this brilliant, heart-warming story, Primrose Park, it became the focal point towards the end for a very good reason which was just so sweet and sentimental. I loved how Molly became deeply invested in the life of Dixie and became determined to right a wrong when she senses something isn’t quite right. Molly is the driving force behind a community effort when the park is vandalised and bringing it back to its former glory, well the reason behind this was just so inspiring, heartening and encouraging. I loved how Molly ploughed on with it despite not feeling at the top of her game. It showed her genuine caring nature and once again highlighted how once Heartcross gets its teeth into you there is no getting away.
Primrose Park is another fabulous addition to the Love Heart Lane series and it’s an utter joy to read. These stories give you the feel good feeling in spades and at a time when we need to feel uplifted and see that good things can happen in the world. The community of Heartcross and its residents highlight this more than ever. I found myself paying close attention to new place names mentioned in the book and also several new background characters and I hope these will form the basis of future books. I really hope this series will continue for as long as possible because without doubt it has been the best thing that Christie Barlow has ever written. You can tell how much she loves writing it and how deeply invested she is in every aspect of it. Heartcross Castle is the next instalment due for publication in October and I can’t wait for it. But in the meantime enjoy every minute of your time spent reading Primrose Park. It’s an uplifting, cosy read with an idyllic setting with just the right dollop of romance.
Loved this latest story in the series - I am hoping that there will be even more tales to come about this great little community.
If you’ve read this series, you’ve heard of Primrose Park – the place that everyone in these two connected little villages seems to come for events, walking, fishing – you name it. But the park is also atmospheric and full of memories, particularly for long-term residents. This is where Molly’s story comes in. The local vet for the town next to Heartcross, she’s independent, driven, well-liked and well known, and wholly her own person. On a rare weekend conference away, she meets a man – after years of never really finding anyone who struck her senseless, this one did. A series of flirtations, some serious sparks and a night were capped off by his disappearing into the night, leaving Molly wondering why and what if.
But weeks later when it’s obvious that she’s never going to see this Cam again, and she’s got decisions to make, along with meeting an elderly long-term resident of the town – after taking in her dog – the difficult Darling. And Darling is difficult, mostly due to what Molly determines is separation anxiety – as her owner Dixie is in a care home, claims not to understand why and the stories that surround her placement are conflicting. Of course, Molly’s friends (particularly Isla with her own llama/sheep/cattle farm, children, husband and camper business) is forefront in the support stakes as she, more than any of the others, is able to provide some guidance and advice as Molly’s one night with the man she’s unable to forget leaves her with more than memories.
Here is where Barlow excels – she brings us back to the picturesque village group, returns friends that are familiar and new, and gives us some family upheaval and a bit of mystery (along with a cute if frustrating dog) and the lovely memories of the park shared by Dixie. The first place she met George – the love of her life, the centerpiece of their family outings, housing memories and more. But vandals have done their utmost to destroy the park and nearly destroyed Dixie’s 80th birthday party plans. Both George and Dixie shared the same birthday – and met on that night several years before – never to separate. It’s up to Molly, the community and a bit of coincidences, some serendipity and the friendship between Molly and Dixie to bring all the threads together and give everyone here a chance at a better, more fulfilling day (and years to come) full of love. Just go with it – the story transports you to a place that is familiar, happy, welcoming and hopeful – and will leave you with a smile. One of my favorite series and this is a stellar installment to fill out the villages, the hope and the need to know more.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Another wonderful read from Christie Barlow. This is part of the Love Heart Lane series and if you haven't started this series yet, you are in for a real treat. It can be read as a stand alone book but you will enjoy the building feel of community throughout. The characters are all so warm and the setting is vividly drawn in your mind.
When vet Molly meets an amazing man at a conference, she falls head over heels with a total stranger. When he leaves without sharing his contact details, she's very sad. A chance meeting at home reveals a totally different character to the dream man she met before.
I loved the way that she drew the community together on a special project and the sparks in the air with her mystery man.
Man, I love a good love story. This one has the added elements of family drama, marriage drama and more. These characters were either love or hate. no in between. I really loved this story line
This is my first book by Christie, a new author to add to my list
A lovely book to sit and relax with, imagining you live in the village and getting to know everyone
I hadn't realised that there were other books before this one but it didn't make any difference to the story
Primrose Park is book number 6 in the Love Heart Lane series and this time it’s all about the local vet - Molly. Each of these books are a self-contained story so can also be read as a stand alone.
I absolutely love the setting of this series, it sounds such a wonderful place to live with great community spirit and I honestly wish it was a real place so that I can go and live there!!
This was an amazing, heartfelt story, I loved all the characters and the author wrote the story really well. It definitely made my heart happy.....
