I’m always so excited when I hear that Christie Barlow has released a new book as she writes THE BEST romcoms; she has her finger on the pulse of small village life and has the ability to instantly transport her readers there, she is adept at creating real characters with emotions who experience the plausible, and she always manages to write engaging stories about friendship and community. Because she writes stories that resonate with so many of us, ones that we can imagine happening, and because they are written with such heart about characters who are so rich and layered, Barlow has an incredible following. She’s an auto-buy author for me, not only because she writes amazing stories, but because she has such an online presence and because she engages with and shares with her fans. Pop over to her Facebook page and see her four girls, her dreamy cottage and her dogs, who no doubt, inspired this story.
Molly, a veterinarian with her own practise as well as an animal hospital, is a strong woman who knows what she wants. She’s staying at a luxurious hotel and attending a conference on dog behaviour. It’s here that she meets a mysterious dentist who changes her life forever. This story resonates with so many of us and that’s why Barlow has such a following! There’s a lovable older woman who’s been put into a nursing home by her cruel relative, a supportive friend who’s only ever a text away, a heartbroken man who has just signed divorce papers, a woman who would love to start a family, a woman who has tried everything to start a family and failed, a derelict bakeshop in need of a new owner, lots of loveable dogs, and an incident that requires the village to pull together.
I remember just after Christmas seeing a post that after 61 days, and 91,000 words, she’d finished this book. I’ve been anxious to get my hands on it since!
Hearing that Book 7 in the series features Grace who lives in Heartcross Castle, a real castle that has inspired Disneyland’s Cinderella will have me watching for a release date.
The author brings us another fabulous heartfelt read in the Love Heart Lane series. Each book is a self contained story that focuses on different characters so can easily be read as a standalone.
We first meet Molly when she attends a conference of which she throws caution to the wind when she meets handsome looking man who she falls for on meeting him. Sparks are definitely flying between these two but the next day Molly comes crashing down to earth. I instantly felt for Molly and I was totally intrigued at how this story was going to play out with such a rocky start.
Molly being a vet, it’s inevitable that animals are going to be part of the story and they come in the form of man’s best friend. There are more than a few humorous moments with one particular dog and it made for lots of light hearted reading. There are some more serious topics involved also of which one particular storyline made my blood boil. I love how even in this particular genre, the author has created some highly unlikable characters which had me jumping up and down at the injustice of what was going on. There are quite a few threads running through the story of which has the reader going through an array of emotions.
Primrose Park is another wonderful story by the author who knows how to pull on my heartstrings and emotions. Overall it is a heart-warming and light hearted read yet covers more serious topics of which the author handles beautifully. The style of writing brought vivid images to my mind and I loved how it was almost brought to life in my head. Never mind the characters falling for the charms of Love Heart Lane, I feel a sense of home every time I pick up a book in this gorgeous series. A compulsive read that will fill your heart full of emotion.
Love Heart Lane – where friends are there for you no matter what!
This was truly a beautiful book! The bok was so well written and captured my attention and held on!
I think I found a new favorite author!!! Now to find her other books!
Wow! I’m a huge fan of the love heart lane books and was thrilled to be able to read primrose park and to be reunited with some familiar characters, so comforting to be surrounded by previous characters and places!
Molly and cams story is a beautiful tale of unexpected pleasure and joy, although their relationship progression is certainly not a smooth one! Molly is such an interesting, kind, genuine person, her caring kindness particularly towards Dixie and her dog Darling restores ones faith in humanity and is like a breath of fresh air, this along with the fantastic sense of community and camaraderie as everyone comes together to restore primrose park back to its former glory and to celebrate Dixies birthday makes for a perfect heartwarming read.
Thank you netgalley for this early read.
For the sixth time already we are invited to spend some time in this lovely and warm little village and I still love it there.
There has been a lot going on in Heartcross in the previous books and the village has been through some changes, but some things will remain the same forever: the friendship and the way the villagers stick together when needs are high.
Vet Molly is the ‘heroin’ in this story. Her own life is in turmoil, but that does not stop her from reaching out to help other people. She decides that nothing will get her down and with the support of her friends she knows she will see it through. Will she also get what she longs for to make her life complete?
The recurring protagonists were a bit less on the forefront this time, but the author introduced us to a few new characters. Some were very likeable, others not so much. 😊
A great story filled with love and friendship, but also sprinkled with a bit of mystery which makes it a very entertaining read.
I was sad to have to pack my bags and go home again and cannot wait to come back for a new adventure. 5 stars
Thank you
I loved this story!! There was romance, mystery, humour, and even an element of crime drama to it; it has everything! The characters were all so lovable, and the location sounded so idyllic, it just made you wish it was a real place you could visit. I would heartedly recommend this book and will definitely be looking out for others by the author. The only thing that could've made this story better was an epilogue, as it would've been nice to see more from after the baby was born
Primrose Park is Christie Barlow’s latest novel in the Love Heart Lane series and it’s another fabulous five star read where we welcome back some of our favourite characters but also some new faces.
Molly McKendrick is the local vet. She’s got a successful business, owns her home and has some fabulous friends but feels she might be missing a significant other in her life and would truly love to be a mum.
At a conference Molly meets a gorgeous man and one thing leads to another but the next morning he’s disappeared without a trace. All Molly knows is his first name. Three months later whilst walking through Primrose Park, Molly and the handsome stranger meet again but it seems their night together meant absolutely nothing to him. Heartbroken Molly turns to her friends but it seems that there’s a surprise in store for her.
I absolutely loved this book and devoured each page. It’s a beautiful story of love, family, friendship and hope. I enjoyed the complexity of the main characters and felt you got a real sense of who they were. The plot flowed along at a steady speed and whilst I couldn’t put the book down I also wanted to savour every page.
Brilliantly written, I can’t recommend it enough and look forward to the next book.
Thank you to NetGalley, One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.
I am a huge fan of the author and especially this book series. It is the sixth book in the Love Heart Lane Series although written so it can be a standalone as they all are. I would recommend reading the others, just because they are such great stories, but that isn’t necessary to follow the storyline or get to know these main characters (I did love hearing a little about one’s we’ve already heard from though!)
Molly is the successful, confident, and popular local vet. She has almost everything she wants in life but feels there may be one thing missing and it might be time to do something about it. She’s known locally as the dog whisperer and wants to put these talents to use by setting up dog behaviour classes in Primrose Park. As she is always determined to be the best at whatever she does, she goes on a course at a local hotel. There she literally bumps into the man of her dreams and after one amazing night they part ways and Molly goes back to work on her business.
When Molly bumps into this mystery man again her world changes in the most unexpected ways, the problem? The man isn’t exactly how she remembers him, in fact she barely recognises him. Getting the community together to help her cause Molly isn’t afraid of standing up for herself or others, but does she really want to do everything alone or is she hoping to get him involved.
I really liked Molly, she’s not shy and not one for mixing her words. She’s capable and puts other peoples’ feelings before her own, to her detriment sometimes. She’s not necessarily good at following advice though as she is headstrong and determined once she gets an idea in her head. I was hoping she would be the one to help poor Dixie – whose own daughter was truly awful beyond words- they had a lovely relationship.
Cam is a difficult leading man, I wanted to really love him, but I have to admit at first I didn’t really warm to him, especially with how badly he acted toward Molly. I was 100% on her side and felt that she deserved better but as his story came to light, I saw the type of person he could be and I changed my mind. They did have a great chemistry and testament to Christie Barlow’s writing, Cam won me over by the end.
A quick shout out for Darling. I absolutely loved this crazy dog although I’d be wearing my wellies around him. Darling added some funny moments but turned into quite the hero too!
Always great to be back in this community setting, I feel like I could visit and know all the locals and each book uncovers more. Christie has created a wonderful, caring community that I love returning to time and time again.
The writing flows nicely and the story moves a long at a great pace. I found this visit to be dramatic and yet still able to make me laugh and smile whilst reading. It only took me a few hours to sit and read this in one glorious sitting, I can’t recommend highly enough – a wonderful bit of escapism. Jump into Primrose Park if you want a nice summer read.
Christie Barlow goes from strength to strength; I always look forward to her next read. Primrose Park is brilliant, and I highly recommend.
