⭐⭐⭐⭐Thanks to #netgalley and #avonbooksuk for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. This was my first time reading a Fiona Gibson book and it definitely won't be my last. What a delightful, heartwarming read. I was caught up in all of the characters lives from the very beginning. I found myself smiling as I read about Scout and how this bedraggled stray little dog appears at just the right time when Suzy needs to feel the unconditional love of a dog the most. Scout brings the people of this community together in a most disarmingly charming way and helps them all to get out of the life slumps they have found themselves in. A perfect feel good read, it felt like a hug in a book. #thedogshare #fionagibson #netgalley #avonbooksuk #tea_sipping_bookworm #litsy #goodreads #amazonkindle #thestorygraph #bookqueen #bookstagram #chicklit
Always enjoy Fiona Gibson's tales, have to say that I didn't enjoy The Dog Share as much as her previous books. But it was a light hearted easy to read tale
Loved this book. So uplifting and heart warming during this pandemic. Suzy goes to Sganasky to try and undo the terrible awful mess her ex partner has left on the island.
It's no secret that I love a sitting on the edge of my seat, white knuckled psychological thriller. But from time to time I love a wholesome and cosy read. Fiona Gibson's "The Dog Share" was one such treat. The book follows Suzy, our main character who has recently split with partner Paul and their joint business at the whiskey distillery in in real trouble. Not shy of a challenge, Suzy relocates to the Outer Hebrides to save this business and also saves a stray dog. It is true to say that the dog also saves her; helping her solidify friendships and a relationship with the recently dumped Ricky. It was an uplifting read with a lovely cast of characters and a setting of heather strewn hills with walks along the sparkling sea.
Cute premise of two people who meet-cute over a dog and then learn how their lives are interconnected. Enjoyed the story, but felt it was slow to start and then rushed toward the ending.
This was such a cute story but I can't start without asking the question "is misleading covers and synopses becoming a trend with publishers?". The result is that a book gets a lower rating because it is not what is expected.
You would assume that you are getting a romcom about two people who connected because of a dog. Nope, not actually the case. Suzy and Ricky don't actually met until more than half way through the story.
I liked the characters, the setting and the overall premise of the story. I especially enjoyed the banter between Suzy and her kids, I imagine a relationship like this when my kids are older.
It is a nice story and would have gotten a higher rating if I got what I went in expecting.
Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Just like so many of these books, I am swept in by the super cute cover, and The Dog Share was no different.
After reading though, this book is less contemporary romance and more about how healing and needed the love of a dog can be for various people. Scout, a once abandoned dog shows up at Suzy’s rental cottage. It doesn’t take long before she realizes she cannot part with him. Scout brings comfort to Suzy during a time where her life seems to be upside down. He brings happiness to Suzy’s grown children and to Arthur who all have always wanted a dog. Scout also brings love to Cara who recently lost her dog, filling that new void.
So although there is a small love story, it seemed minor to the story about Suzy stepping in to pick of the pieces of the distillery on this small island, and the love of Scout, to all those he came across.
“But already, it almost feels like Scout belongs to all of us. We all love him and he seems to love all of us. I wonder now if, dogs also have the ability to love a whole bunch of people unconditionally, with no limits on numbers.”
This book was very sweet and I loved the pup, but the pacing was a bit off for me. I found that the plot didn’t really pick up until over halfway through the book. I always love a story that is told in duel perspectives, so that part was really intriguing to me. I also liked the second chance story lines that both characters were given,
I really enjoyed this story, which did not go the way I expected, which was a lovely surprise. Who would have thought whisky, cello playing and obituaries would mix together so well, all with a stray called Scout.
This book was just okay. I didn't develop attachments with any of the characters. And the whole premise of the two main characters "sharing" a dog didn't seem to happen until waaaay too far into the book. I went into this book thinking it would be a "stray dog caused a meet-cute situation" romance, but overall the whole plot seemed to fall a little flat.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this book, I was super confused as to what was happening in the book at any given time, The premise of the book sounded super cute but the writing style was not for me.
This is a cute, heartwarming story about how a dog can bring bring people together, even in unexpected ways. Suzy is finding her way again after her partner walks out on her and their failing business he pulled her into. Ricky is a single dad and primary school music teacher trying to move on with his life after his wife dies unexpectedly. The book follows both stories as Suzy and Ricky end up on an remote Scottish island.
I thought the characters were well written and a lot of time is spent on building their backgrounds and lives. This book is written in alternating perspectives and I thought that really added to the character building.
Of course, there are some plot points in this story that are predictable, but it is still so enjoyable! I loved seeing how Scout, the stay dog found wandering the island in the middle of the night, is able to bring people together.
If you love dogs, and you love a heartwarming story, where maybe not everything goes exactly as planned, this is a great book for you!
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon, and Fiona Gibson for the digital arc of this book in return for my honest review.
The Dog Share by Fiona Gibson is a delightful, heartwarming story about Suzy, Cara, Ricky and his son Arthur, Ricky's dad Harry, and the little dog Scout who brings them all together.
Suzy is trying to piece together a business that was nearly driven into the ground by her ex partner. Cara is alone and heartbroken, and in need of a friend and artistic inspiration. Ricky, his son Arthur, and his dad Harry are searching to make sense of some recent changes in their lives.
Along comes little dog Scout, the friend, inspiration, and peace maker they all need.
There are no surprises in this book, and the reader can see where it's heading right from the start. That's okay, though, because the characters are well written and lovable, right down to (and especially) adorable Scout,
Thank you to NetGalley, Ms. Gibson, and publisher Avon Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I'm beginning to realize I don't like women's fiction, I thought this was going to be more of a romance, but it wasn't the case.
My heart! This was the perfectly sweet rom com book I needed in my life. It was a quick read and enjoyable the entire way. I loved seeing this group of strangers be brought together by a lovable and loving dog. Each of these characters was a little bit broken before finding each other and created a family pieced together. This was a super cute read and I would recommend it to anyone who loves Hallmark movies. I’ll definitely be reading more of Fiona Gibson’s books!
Thank you NetGalley and Avon books for the e-arc!
A charming and really enjoyable read. I needed some escapism, and in actual fact this was something more - it really made me want a break to a Scottish island (even more than I had done previously). The environment was as much a character in the book, as Suzy, Ricky or Scout. The dog share arrangement was so sweet, and there was no big will they/won't they moments with the romance. I loved that, things just progressed at a natural pace, and didn't become the main focus of the story. This gave me a welcome break from a heavy work day without too much need to think! #netgalley #thedogshare
A fun read! The shifting points of view let the readers know the principals' backstories. Perfect for Jenny Colgan fans.
This is the first time I've read anything from this author but I loved this book
It’s such a great charming and heartwarming story set on an insland!
I loved Suzy and Ricky alot and Scout was so adorable and loved the plot
As a huge animal lover , lover of Scotland and a lover of romance books I think this might be one of my perfect books. Such a charming read, with even cuter characters, I loved Suzy and Ricky so much , but not as much as Scout, the star I just wish there had been more of him to go round ! It’s such a great heartwarming story, I just didn’t want it to end, the perfect read to escape
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
This was such a charming little story set on an insland! I loved the plot with my whole heart.
I'm not a huge lover of pets/animals, but it was an enjoyable read for me even then. :') Ricky and Suzy were both were charming characters. I loved reading about how their lives changed after their first meet, thanks to Scout 💞 Highly recommend for a cozy, light- hearted read!
