I read this book without a preview as to what the story was about. This story grabs you from the beginning and tugs at your heart. Would be a great book for book clubs. Highly recommend this book.
What would you do if you had to make heart wrenching discussion?
Well, this was a totally surprise to read and completely unexpected. Unexpected because this is a very unusual, different and unique story. It was hard to put down as I kept wondering “where is this going?” Certainly a book you should read.
The story is told by the two main characters, Grace and Heather, points of view. And, what a complicated, wrenching and touching story it is!
Be ready to go on a emotional journey.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book showed both sides of the story so well. I felt for both Heather and Grace. I never felt either was right or wrong in how they felt or how they dealt with the situation. My heart hurt for both of them. The love they had for their child was beautiful. I can't imagine being in either woman's shoes but Kate Hewitt did a fantastic job of telling the story.
Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This is the second book that I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more of hers. The authors ability to weave such an emotional story about love, family, adoption and so much more keeps me wanting to turn the page. The characters in the story feel so real. Another great read!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the copy. The views expressed ate my own!
A Mother’s Goodbye by Kate Hewitt is an extremely emotional book with an excellent story.
Heather is pregnant with her fourth child. Her family is struggling financially and she needs to work. Heather decides putting the baby up for adoption would be the best for everyone. Grace is a workaholic with nobody important in her life after her father’s death. Grace decides she wants a child because she loved the bond she had with her father. Grace has no romantic prospects so decides adoption is the best option.
Heather chooses to give her child to Grace. Heather is not as confident that adoption is the right choice. She goes back and forth between keeping the baby and giving the baby to Grace. What will Heather choose? What is the best option for Heather’s future baby and her family? Will Heather make the choice that is best for everyone or just her?
A Mother’s Goodbye is a tear jerker. Every time I thought it couldn’t get more emotional, I was wrong. The story has so many great twists that I didn’t see coming. A Mother’s Goodbye covers many difficult topics including adoption and teen pregnancy. There are more difficult topics discussed, but I don’t want to ruin any surprises.
I loved reading Heather and Grace’s story. Everything about them I found interesting. There were times I was very annoyed with their decisions, but I really enjoyed them as characters. All of Heather’s kids have different personalities that are described well even though they are only in parts of the book.
Heather and Grace develop an understanding early on. As the story goes on their relationship becomes more difficult. I love reading about complicated situations and A Mother’s Goodbye puts the characters in many difficult situations. Hewitt did a great job showing how Heather and Grace’s decisions affected the whole family.
I highly recommend A Mother’s Goodbye to anyone that likes emotional books.
Thank you NetGalley and Forever Publishing/Grand Central Publishing for A Mother’s Goodbye.
This was an absolutely heartbreaking book. Heather finds herself pregnant with her 4th baby. She has 3 girls and a husband that can't work and money is super tight. She knows they can't afford another child so she chooses adoption for her baby. Grace has put her career first her entire life and now wants a baby. Heather picks Grace to adopt her baby. What makes a mother? Being a birth mother or being an adoptive mother who has raised the child? This story is heartbreaking and emotional. It is told from Heather and Grace's points of view and you get both sides of the story. This was a beautifully written story of 2 mother's love for their child. I received an advanced readers copy and all opinions are my own.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, Bookouture, and the author, Kate Hewitt for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

This book hit on everything that I want to see in a women's fiction book, and especially one that will cause me to cry while reading it. I loved how the author portrayed each of the characters in the book, and how the emotion came through the pages.
I loved the story line, and loved that the author hit on some of the issues that occur with adoption, birth families, and the future.
As always, Kate Hewitt is an author I will always read and watch for her next book.
This is a Woman's Fiction/Chick-Lit. Heather is pregnant and cannot afford another baby. Grace is all about her career, but after the death of her father she decides to contact adoption agency. This book show the ups and downs of Parenting/Adoption. I have to say this book went right to my heart. Heather and Grace is two strong well women that goes through so much during this book. I cannot put into words how much I loved this book, and the ending is so good. This book has heart breaks, drama, love, and so much more. This book is well-written, and it will stay with you long after you finish reading the book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Forever - Grand Central Publishing) or author (Kate Hewitt) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Amazing story, another story about how money can not buy you happiness. When a young women is pregnant, again for the 4th time, she needs to find a way to make it. Her husband does not work due to an injury. The women she meets has more money then she needs. She ends up adopting her unborn child to her, with the condition she gets to visit the child every month. And this goes on for seven years. Then life happens, sicknesses, and people need to take real hard look at their life. Great story, could not put it down. Will recommending this to anyone in a reading funk. Love this story!!!!
The book started out a little slow for me but picked up about 40% through and then I couldn’t read the rest of the book fast enough. It’s a story about two mothers and what they will do to give their families the best life possible.
The story is told from the viewpoint of Heather, biological mother and Grace, the adoptive mother. Grace wants a child and is chosen by Heather, who due to her family circumstances, cannot mother another child. I absolutely love books written like this because you get more of the story in my opinion. I thought this was a great book once I got past the slower beginning.
Get ready for a box of tissues. What a wonderful read of 2 lives that are brought together with an unexpected pregnancy. Heather, already has 3 healthy girls with her husband Kev, who was injured at work years ago and can no longer provide for his family. Heather works nights cleaning, but still can't make ends meet. She finds out she is pregnant, but knows she can't keep the baby and abortion is out of the question.
Grace, lonely after the passing of her father is lonely and wants to grow her family. She is surprised when Heather, picks her, a single career woman. So begins the awkward relationship. Can Heather really give up her child after birth, after the bond she has?
Kate has a way of writing that just grips you. Wonderfully written once again.
When Heather finds out that she is pregnant, it is not welcome news. With three girls and an unemployed husband, they are already struggling to get by and cover basic needs. She soon contemplates adoption so that this child can be provided with the life that she can't provide.
Grace is a single professional, about to make partner at her firm. After losing her father, and reflecting on the relationship she had with him, she decides to pursue adoption.
This book is heavy on emotion and that emotion deepens as the story goes on. It touches on some hard topics which are addressed gently.
A Mother's Goodbye is a gut wrenching read. It will have you sobbing. Heather and Grace have an awkward relationship. Heather decides to give up her baby for adoption and she picks Grace. Several years later Grace chooses Heather for her son. It's a twisty relationship. I felt the loneliness of Grace and the dilemma of her having no one. I felt the financial hardship of Heather and the tough choices she made. Heather was the strongest character in the entire book. She kept giving and giving even when she didn't want to. Hewitt does a fantastic job of writing this emotionally charged story.
This is a very emotional read so have a box of tissue near you. This is a heartbreaking yet heartwarming story that holds your attention. If you like family drama that's full of emotions you will love this book. Thank you Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book will grab all your emotions without letting go. Thought provoking, emotional, powerful.
I don't usually read emotional family dramas, but this one's blurb really caught my eye. A Mother's Goodbye is a story of Heather, a mother of three struggling to make the ends meet, who can't imagine keeping the child she just found out she is pregnant with. On the other hand, Grace is a career woman without any family who craves someone to love. As the narrative alternates between the two women, the story reveals the connection between them, as well as the importance of the baby in changing their lives entirely.
I never cry in books, but this time I ungly cried so much.
This was such an emotional, heartbreaking yet heartwarming tale of love and motherhood. Sometimes you just need a book like this to feel a strong connection with the characters, and this was it for me. The writing is beautiful, and I highly recommend this book if you need a tear jearker.
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Heather makes one of the hardest decisions a mother can make. She has three girls and is pregnant. Her husband was injured at work and is no longer collecting a paycheck They decide to give the baby up for adoption to grace who is single. The relationship between Heather and Grace was amazing. I cant wait to read Kate Hewitt's next book.
I received an advance copy of, A Mother's Goodbye, by Kate Hewitt. I love Kate Hewitt's books, but I did not care for this book at all. I did not the characters, the swearing. I know its a not a romance like Kate typically writes, but I just did not care for this book.
Being a mother myself I really found this book to be profoundly relatable and exceptionally tender. You could feel the emotion on every page. Heartwarming, touching, honest and raw, these sentiments are believable and compelling. Kate Hewitt really knows how to write a story to pull at your heartstrings.
