Jealousy, bitterness and resentment!! What more can you ask for from a book! Told from 3 POV I spent my time either picking my jaw up from the floor or desperately trying to guess what was going to happen! Brilliant read.
My Sister's Husband was an enjoyable thriller, but you really have to suspend your disbelief for most of the story to work and especially the ending.
Brooke and Freya are sisters, but Freya is exceedingly jealous of her older sister. Their relationship mirrors the one that their Aunt Alice had with their own mother. who died in a freak accident (along with their father) while they were both babies. They also have an cousin who is just a bit older than them, Lizzie, who returned to her childhood home after school. Brooke hasn't seen or spoken to any of them in ten years, after she left town after her boyfriend killed himself by jumping off the cliffs behind her home, but now Brooke is back to celebrate her sister's upcoming wedding, to a man Brooke seems to recognize. And, since Brooke's been gone, their Aunt Alice has developed early onset dementia and Freya, who is now a nurse, keeps her locked in an upstairs bedroom to "keep her safe."
The premise is interesting. Sister hating sister and continuing that through the generations. But neither Freya nor Alice are all that likeable. We hear part of the story from past Alice, which means that we don't really feel as sorry for present day Alice as I think we're supposed to. Her being locked away in a closet when there's obviously something else going on seems pretty fair, honestly. And Freya is just obnoxious all the way through. She complains all the time about her "perfect" sister, Brooke, but the way it's written, Brooke's a pretty normal person who the reader feels for, and the rest of the characters are just off. For the whole book.
The big twist is definitely a big twist, which I didn't see coming. And I really liked big twist, although I'm not giving it away here.. It was big enough to not make me regret reading this one all the way through. I just wish the good-bad elements/characters weren't quite so clear cut. A bit of gray area here and there might have made for a more interesting read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an e-galley of this book in exchange for my honest review. It has not influenced my opinion.
Nicola Marsh has written a remarkable novel brimming with tension, alongside oodles of drama, evil, lies, infidelity, jealousy secrets, and unsettling moments. I found it absolutely absorbing and compelling from the first until the final page.
Brooke had a complicated relationship with her younger sister, Freya, and they displayed an array of emotions, so well portrayed by the author. Told in dual timelines from a variety of viewpoints there was a lot of back and forth and a great deal going on but I managed to keep occurrences and events straight in my mind for the most part! Throughout My Sister's Husband, I found myself pondering who could and could definitely not be trusted and I think this served to enhance the overall aura and vibe of the story.
The characters, the narration, the twists and the plot were all excellent and this was one of those books where everyone is not particularly personable but this adds enrichment to the story, so you love it anyway. Very highly recommended, I look forward to Nicola Marsh's next novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Bookouture via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.
Wow--I really enjoyed this domestic thriller! The author did a good job of intertwining two parallel stories together, and the pacing of the story was perfect. The secrets and mystery unfolded slowly over the book, but it wasn't slow paced at all! The short chapters and quick action kept the story moving at a face pace. This is one of the better thrillers I've read this year and I plan on reading Nicola Marsh's previous books. Five stars!
Wow, what a wild twisty plot. As soon as you think you know what happened, or is going to happen you learn another bit that changes everything. Niclola manages to create an amazing book with all the feels. Thanks to Net Galley, the author and publisher for chance to read this ARC
I was fortunate to receive a copy of this ARC from NetGalley.
Wow, this book is brilliant!
Weaving between two time lines about sisters, family, death, how all consuming jealousy can be and events and decisions that are still impacting on future generations. Events are revealed gradually and my loyalties changed to different people as I was reading!
My favourite quote:
"All the years we've wasted crashing over me in a sorrowful wave."
Published today!
A good and interesting read!
I would recommend this to everyone who loves a good story with captivating characters! Definitely a good read!
This book drew me in since the beginning! There are many parallels to the stories of both generations, and there’s a sense of history repeating itself and lots of twists and turns. I really enjoyed this. It was full of suspense and tension and I couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
You like a family drama and a good thriller, you should definitely read this book!

What a superb thriller this book is!
It starts off as a really compelling saga of family secrets and relationships, but as the tension builds and the tangled web of secrets begins to unravel, it really ramps up the pace, and transforms into a twisty domestic thriller.
The story is told from three perspectives. Alice, the aunt, tells us about the past, and gives us tantalising glimpses into what has gone before. Then the sisters, Brooke and Freya, take us back to the present day.
There are many parallels to the stories of both generations, and there’s a sense of history repeating itself as we hurtle towards the climactic ending.
This is book that totally drew me in, and I found myself unable to put it down. Totally compelling reading that will leave you reeling by the end. Fabulous.
Families should be a source of comfort and compassion but in My Sister's Husband the family is anything but. There are simmering and longstanding resentments, petty jealousies and secrets galore. When an estranged sister meets her sister's brand new fiancé, they recognize each other having been a fling once upon a time is just the beginning. A good read from a really good author!
My Sister's Husband is a domestic thriller by Nicola Marsh.
I was intrigued with the plot of the story. Although it wasn't groundbreaking in its ending, the author has a way with words to pull you into the life of a family that's in shielded chaos and are told in multiple POVs as well as different time periods. There may be times a reader finds it difficult to keep track of what's going on due to the bomber of changes, (to each their own) but as we dig deeper into the book things become easier to understand.
I cannot stress how many twists are there in this book and the secrets that are uncovered just seem to be popping out of nowhere with no intentions of stopping with uniquely bizzare characters.
Overall, it's a good book if you're into mysteries.
My Sister’s Husband by Nicola Marsh is an intense story of sisters, family secrets and jealousy. The opening line in the prologue states it clearly “family can be toxic” with “secrets, half-truths, mysteries, and outright lies.” The story opens with Brooke coming home to Martino Bay, California for her sister, Freya’s wedding after being gone for 11 years. She is also coming home to see her Aunt Alice the only mother she has ever known and who is in failing health. As soon as she comes home, Brooke realizes there is more going on than she thought. She recognizes Freya’s fiancé, and the decline of Alice’s health doesn’t add up. Brooke decides to figure out what happen to Alice and what led to her rapid decline. Told between three perspectives, Brooke and Freya, and Alice in the past, the reader is taken on a journey with many twists and turns. Will Brooke find out the truth? Will the truth set them free or drive them further apart?
Wow! What a book! From the opening prologue to the last chapter, the story will twist and turn as you try to figure out what happened and what is going on. It is the story of two sets of sisters: Brooke and Freya and Alice and Diana, Brooke, and Freya’s mother. As I read the interactions of the sisters, I am so glad that I do not have that relationship with my own sisters. It was hard to like or relate to these women though I found Brooke more likable especially as the story progressed. There are a few secrets that I guesses at, which turned out to be correct, but just when I thought I had it figured out, Ms. Marsh still had a few twists that I didn’t see coming! My only complaint is with Alice’s perspective, it was hard to determine when the events she talked about happened. Overall, I really enjoyed My Sister’s Husband and I highly recommend it. It is a roller coaster ride that you do not want to miss!
My Sister’s Husband is available in paperback and eBook
Well what can I say? An amazing read. Jealousy and secrets from the past surface as Brooke arrives home for her sister Freya's wedding. I really did not want to put this down. Each chapter revealed yet more information in this complex web of family lies and deceit. There was a reckoning coming, but just how would it happen I had no idea. Brilliantly written and totally gripping. Wish I could give it more than five stars.
My thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of My Sister's Husband in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 1st book by this author that I have read and now I will be looking forward to more! This is definitely a book that will make you think! The author takes you through the relationship of two sisters, Alice and Diana. She intertwines them with two other sisters, Brooke and Freya and while alternating between the two stories, she tells a tale of jealousy and shows how far a sister will go to have what her sister has! Definitely worth reading!! 5 stars!! Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley, Nicola Marsh and Bookouture for the ARC of My Sister’s Husband. This is my personal review.
This book was one that had me saying to myself how many secrets can one family truly have and still be a family.
This book was extremely hard for me to get into and enjoy. I kept thinking what is coming next. It felt forced and did nothing to make me want to read to the end, but I did. I can say that this book is not one I will keep in my column of books to recommend to others I know.
This is a brilliant family drama full of secrets and lies.
Brooke receives an invite to her sister’s wedding and also an email from her cousin saying her Aunt is ill, so makes the decision to go back home.
It’s been eleven years since she’s seen them all and she’s surprised to learn her sister has a daughter.
She’s also shocked when she meets her future brother in law as she was with him in the past.
We also get an insight into their Aunt’s life and learn that she had a difficult relationship with her sister too.
I won’t say any more about the story as it’s one where you need to read it and let it develop and I have to say, it left me speechless.
I’m certainly glad I don’t have a sister if this is how life could be!
This is a great read and one I can highly recommend.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

She will take you on a roller coaster ride filled with secrets......so many secrets....lies, jealousy and deception that you will not be able to get off of!!! Just when you think you have it all figured another unpredictable twist occurs. This is one of the most intense gripping novels read in a long time! I could not put this one down!!!

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of this awesome book in exchange for an honest review!!!
My sister’s Husband is narrated in first person through the eyes of Brooke, Freya and their Aunt Alice. The story focuses on the journey of two generations of sisters. Brooke and Freya’s storyline takes place in the present with flashbacks of past memories, while Alice’s takes place mainly in the past. This book features many twist, turns and family secrets that will tear open the deepest scars.
I found the characters to be interesting especially Alice and Freya who I found to be the mirror image of each other personality wise. I think they both had deep physiological problems with might have been hereditary although this is just my opinion. I found Brooke to be a strong character because she returned home after ten years to face the pain of the events that chased her away.
I would be interested to see if the severe jealousy issues end with Freya and Alice or if they have been passed onto Hope. I was shocked by the ending but at the same time I found it very satisfying. Nicola Marsh has written a suspenseful and thrilling book which will keep you entertained and guessing right till the very end.
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
