Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Kindle ARC of My Sister's Husband. This book was a great surprise, as its not the typical type of book I would choose. Two sets of sisters, one in the recent past and one in the present, harbor secrets from each other, lies to each other and plenty of deception. Loss of life, love, children and trust are the results. It was hard to put the book down once I started and I was eager to get back to it.
How many secrets can one family have? A lot, evidently. Centered around two different sets of sisters, and set in two different periods, it is full of secrets, so many secrets and jealousy and evil. This book is like a train wreck you can’t look away from, and I enjoyed every crazed minute of it.
Diane and Alice are sisters, and Alice hungers for everything Diane has and will do anything to have it. Fast forward nearly thirty years and her nieces Brooke and Freya are in the exact same place. History seems to be repeating itself with a slightly different outcome. If you can suspend disbelief, this is a great mystery/suspense novel with many intriguing twists and turns. I did have an idea where it was heading, although I missed one crucial step, so it still surprised me in the end. A new author for me, so I look forward to reading more by her. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with the opportunity to read it. I gave it four stars.
Ooooh, what a wicked web of secrets and lies Nicola Marsh weaves in her latest suspense-filled book, My Sister's Husband!
From the off, I was pulled in to the story of two pairs of sisters, with lives and experiences that mirror one another, in an uncanny way.
Brooke arrives home, to celebrate the wedding of her sister, Freya, to Ryker, after a lengthy absence, and finds herself reuniting with family, and finding out way more about her own history than she ever imagined,
Just how twisted can a person can be? I was on the edge of my seat, as I read this book, and though I spent most of the time trying to second guess the outcome, I was so off the mark when all was revealed.
Definitely a recommended read!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Based in the US, this is the story of two sisters, Brooke and Freya. After leaving the family home 10 years ago, Brooke is now returning for Freya’s wedding. She has had very little to do with her family for those 10 years, but when she meets Freya’s husband to be Brooke is shocked to find her past coming racing back to her. There is also another storyline running alongside of Aunt Alice, who brought Brooke and Freya up, and her sister Diana. It’s a compelling and gripping read of 2 different sets of sisters, divided by the generations.
The stories of the four women are told through Alice, Brooke and Freya’s individual points of view. The storylines switch across between past and present, with Alice’s story told in the past, and eventually meeting up with the present-day story. Brooke and Freya’s relationships were obviously strained, but it was interesting to see how they reacted with each other after so long. I liked Brooke’s character and felt for her returning after so long away. So much had changed for her and there were things which she didn’t know about, and then there was the shock of who her sister was marrying, which was obviously difficult for her to process. I also liked Freya’s character and was excited for her forthcoming wedding, unaware of how her sister was feeling. As the story moved on though, both sisters’ characters changed and there began to be more mystery and intrigue around them both.
Whilst the storyline does jump back and forward a bit, this was in no way confusing with the author writing in such a way that the crossover between the different time frames was unnoticeable! I loved Alice’s character, both in present day and in the past. Her storyline for me was the most interesting and I loved how she did her best for both the younger and, ultimately the older Brooke and Freya. The relationships between both sets of sisters were filled with resentment and jealousy, and there were many lies and secrets which were threatening to come to the surface. The story began slow, giving you a chance to get to know the characters and their backstories, but quickened dramatically as the stories came to their conclusions.
The author has written the story very well, keeping the suspense high at the right times and the mystery of what was going on was kept hidden until the right moment. Filled with so many secrets this book held my attention throughout, with all of those secrets making sure I kept turning those pages! This was a gripping and thrilling read, filled with suspense and suspicion throughout. Would definitely recommend!
What a great book! About halfway through I thought I had it all figured it, well, I did to a point, but only about 40%. Let me back up. The book is told in 3 different POV. As always, I love this format. It is told in the past with "Aunt Alice and in the present of sisters Freya and Brooke.
Brooke, after being gone from home 10+ years after tragedy strikes returns home for Freya's wedding. There were so many secrets that Alice kept that are unearthed throughout the book. Every family has them, but not every family has "deadly" secrets.
Alice is suffering from early onset dementia and only Freya is allowing herself to care for her. Brooke is seeing red flags with this. Could there be more than meets the eye?
There seems to be a bond with Freya's daughter Hope and Brooke; Freya is not liking this one bit. I did not see the ending coming. I figured out a few things, but not all of it. Happy reading!
This was a pager turner. I highly recommend this and look forward to more by the author!
This book focuses on the story of two sets of sisters. Alice and her sister Diana and then Diana’s daughters Brooke and Freya. When Brooke returns for her sister Freya’s wedding after being away for over a decade she is surprise to realise she knows her sisters fiancé and that he was involved in the night she has spent ten years running away from. Then she finds out her sister also has a daughter she had known nothing about and her beloved Aunt Alice is now in the final stages of Dementia and can now no longer remember her or help her fill in the blanks about her life. As this story takes a dark and dangerous turn I was hooked and could not put it down. This book is a very twisted look at when love even in your family can turn to hate which can end up destroying everything around you.
This was a steady burner with the stories of the sisters of the mothers in the past and the present sisters . Not many surprises at the end as I’d guessed the ending to a certain extent, maybe I’ve just read too many of this type of book. Having said that it was a good read and I would read more from this author
Marsh is an excellent writer. I couldn't put this book down. It has layers of lies and two Generations of deceit, jealousy, hatred, and deaths. Alice and Diana, sisters, but rivals. Freda and Brooke the next generation. One sister covets what the other has. Will she get it? At what cost? Is the price too high? As I began to unravel the snarled tale I figured out some things, but the final deceit made even my mouth drop and nothing much surprises me. I couldn't warm up to one particular character and wasn't surposred at her fate Or what she had been to. I love books like this that make you want to read faster to get to the next page to see what occurs next.
Really enjoyed this, in essence it was two parallel stories of sisters who were jealous of their siblings, interwoven with secrets and lies.
Alice is the sister in the earlier part of the story who is envious of her sister Di and believes she got everything that she should've had.
Freya is Alice's niece and believes her sister Brooke was the lucky more beautiful sister, until an accident changed her life.
Alice sees Freya in herself, but can genetics be changed or was the path always destined to be that way?
Great read with a surprising twist, I suspected there was a huge secret behind the birth of Freya's daughter, Hope, but the twist was fairly earth shattering!
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book, this was my honest opinion.
What an amazing novel! The characters were well drawn and the storyline flowed seamlessly. The mystery kept me guessing until the very end. Highly recommended!
My sister's husband gives the reader the storyline in the blurb. Since the underlying jealousy between the sisters is similar in the past and present events, the narrative becomes repetitive and boring. After all blood is thicker than water, this might skip one generation, but two consecutive ones? The part I liked was the conclusion where there are a few suspenses. Otherwise so many pages on jealousy makes reading laborious. The characters don't seem to be mature for their age.

I was very excited to read this book because the subject seemed so compelling. I wasn't a big fan of how it was written however each chapter being a different person's point of view and the fact that one of the main characters went by two different names. It made it very difficult as a reader to try to keep track of everything that was going on and I felt a bit lost at times. Combine the above with the fact that there were two different story lines taking place I felt like a fish out of water trying to breath. I did like the characters in this story however all of the jumping took away any interest I felt. The one story line was about two sisters, jealousy and resentment. The second story line was about the same thing however now there is a man involved, who is married to the one, which the single sister wants. What does this man do to their relationship? And what happens to the sisters when things once hidden suddenly start coming to the surface. I loved all of the characters in this story I was either rooting for them to win or I was appalled by their behaviors but still loved how they were presented. This thriller
will keep everyone on their toes. Thank you Nicola Marsh as well as Bookouture for allowing me the chance to read this novel.
I had a real like- hate relationship with this novel. I wanted to stop reading but felt compelled to continue through to the end. I found the plot very predictable, and the writing extremely repetitive. How many times, and in how many ways did we need to hear about the sisters jealousies, past and present. It felt like the sentences were being repeated over and over with the same idea only the words were in a different order. It became very monotonous. There were a couple of surprises but the entire book felt too unrealistic with too many secrets.
I enjoyed this book by Nicola March and I thank Bookouture who are as always so kind in approving my request to read and review. This book, a family tale full of secret, mystery and lies. It makes a dysfunctional, mysterious read. Alice, Freya and Brooke get to tell their story throughout this tale. Not all characters are likeable throwing a different nuance to the book. A tale that span across times. What really happened those years ago and can they forgive.
Wow! I’m sure you've heard the phrase “jealousy is the root of all evil?” That is basically the theme of this book along with sisterhood, secrets, suspense and lies. What a page turner! So many twists and so many secrets I had to keep reading to find out more. The story.goes back and forth in time between 3 main characters, Alice, Brooke and Freya. So you better keep up and be paying attention. However, the author does an amazing job of managing the flow and tying everything together so well that I totally enjoyed this story.
This is my first book by Nicola Marsh, but I plan to read more. Thank you netgalley, Bookouture and Nicola Marsh for an advanced readers copy in exchange for my review.
Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The two storylines in the story were so similar and had so much parallel elements, therefore I was able to get the ending 3/4 of the book through.
The story was fine, the writing style made it quite easy to read. I just have one question as an only child, is that what sisterhood is really like? There's so much jealousy , resentment and malice that lies between the sisters, including others in the family over such little things. Haha, is that that scary to have a sister?
Another good thriller by Nicola Marsh! I sped through this book while on my elliptical and couldn't wait to give publisher feedback for it. My review will be posted to the links below on my assigned tour date. This book was about a group of sisters and the secrets they keep. The characters were all so flawed and it was such a quick read. I loved the justice of the ending, and can't wait to share this on my social media for the book tour date.
Wow just Wow!! Nicola Marsh you've outdone yourself with this one!!
From start to finish this one had me spinning!! It was so fast paced. It's the most exciting book I've read in a long time. The highs and lows were brilliant. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc. It was absolutely fantastic!!
This was a fantastic read , I thoroughly enjoyed it . The book is told from 3 perspectives , Alice in the past and Freya and Brook in the present . Freya and Brook were brought up by their Aunt after their parents both died , though Alice has dementia and is kept locked away in her bedroom by Freya the sister who is taking care of her along with Alice's daughter Lizzie .
Brooke who has been estranged from the family comes home for her sisters wedding , and is horrified when she meets Riker and realizes they shared a one night stand several years previously . There is lot's of secrets and resentments and the life of the sisters now mirrors the relationship that Alice and her sister had .With Brooke curious as to why Aunt Alice's dementia is progressing so fast she starts to investigate and finds that all is not what it seems
Great 5 stars
