This read more like a YA book to me, and I do not read YA. The story was cleverly done, and I enjoyed the writing style. However, tropes about missing children have been in a lot of books I've been reading lately, and I am worn out with it, honestly. This book had good character development and a good atmospheric feel. I would read more by this author.
Believable characters and plenty of suspense and twists.
A moving and captivating read A real tearjerker
This was such a relatable story. It was emotional & will keep you up all night reading! I recommend if enjoy this genre of books!
In today's age, you can never be too careful with your children. Where they are, where they are going and whom they are with. Most of us can relate to it. Imagine your child disappears after an innocent trip, and then you start discovering the truth about your daughter's real life. Riveting reading.
I found this to be quite slow paced and I found myself feeling slightly bored as I went through. There are quite a few similar books in this genre and I didn’t think this one stood out from the crowd at all.
Amazing..tough storyline but so well told. If you are the mother of a sixteen year old or love one this will pull on your heartstrings all the more. Could not put it down.
The words from the book blurb sum this book up perfectly which I quote herewith "A heartbreaking, redemptive and beautifully crafted novel which brings to life a mother’s worst nightmare, questioning how well we ever really know the people we love the most." . I couldn't have described it any better if I tried.
It was truly well written and the characters all well developed. I was literally captivated by the story from start to finish. The story does deal with some sensitive difficult topics, such as bullying, which some readers may find upsetting but I truly feel that the author has done very well in the telling of such a story as this.
The story is told from the perspective of a number of characters, to include the Mother, sister, teacher and two best friends of Zoe’s, I liked that it was done that way as it bought different things to the story and let’s you get to know each of the characters individually. I truly felt sorry for the teacher Bernadette, as she was out in a difficult situation which was for the most part out of her control, but I’m glad she survived the ordeal and came out the other side come the end. As for character L (I’ll not name her here as I don’t want to risk letting out any spoilers), so I’m probably in the minority here but I truly felt for L, all that she had to go through, yes she made a mistake but she was a victim in a big way to bullying, I was shocked at the end, I personally don’t think she should have got 6 years, especially given her age and the circumstances.
Anyway despite that, I still thoroughly enjoyed this story, was fully entertained and engaged from start to finish.
Nicole Trope is fast becoming one of my favourite go to authors, I will definitely be looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future.
The Girl Who Never Came Home - Nicole Trope.
4.5/5 Stars ⭐️
Lydia, Mother of two, sends her younger daughter, Zoe, off the camp. Zoe is a difficult 16 year old girl with a strong attitude. Lydia receives the dreaded phone call from the school in the missing stating that Zoe was missing. Where could she have gone missing in the middle of the Blue Mountains!? Zoe won’t come home from camp, her body is found at the bottom of a drop. How did she come to this ending?
The story line and narrative is great. Each chapter is the view of her mother, older sister Jessie, the teacher at the camp, or her two bedroom friends. I felt like I knew each character in good detail.
I would say almost half way through, I began to find it a real page turner as more twists and turns in the plot developed. I was not expecting the ending and love the way it developed. The only reason for the 4.5 and not 5 was the slightly slow build up, but it still had me hooked. I would be recommending it and certainly will look at more of her books!
The story is told from several characters points of view which I felt added to the story and gave you a real feel for each of the characters. A lot of them were very unlikeable and I didn’t really care for any of them. The storyline itself was slow paced and a little predictable. I had it worked out from early on. There were a few twists along the way but the final reveal was a bit of a let down. I did like the authors style of writing and the progression through the plot with the text format helped the story along but all in all the storyline itself wasn’t as engaging as I thought it would be.

An emotional story of a girl disappearing from a camp exploring the main pressures on youngsters today from bullying and the internet. Good storyline and well researched book that certainly keeps your interest
This is Suspense/Thriller/Mystery. This book starts off slow, but I have to say the middle picks up. I had trouble getting through the beginning, and the middle and the end was so good. I did not see some of the twist and turns before they came up. Some of the characters I had trouble following, but the other characters I really loved. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Bookouture) or author (Nicole Trope) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review about how I feel about this book, and I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Full of the action-packed suspense and romance that Thorpe is known for. The author grabs your attention at page one and keeps it all the way to the end. This rapid page turner will have you on the edge of your seat from cover to cover.
Wow 😯 what a great read ! I loved this book told from different characters point of view with the storyline flowing through from each character. It also highlighted the terrible consequences of bullying and how social media in today’s society plays such a huge part. A great read full of emotion and beautifully written.
The Girl Who Never Came Home by Nicole Trope is another suspenseful drama that will keep you guessing. As with her other books, Trope writes about life in crisis. This time it is the death of a child, a teenager, only sixteen. Zoe was a beautiful, vivacious, and popular sixteen year old girl. With that, she was also mean and could be a bully. When she is found dead at the bottom of a hill on a school camping trip, nobody can figure out why. What was she doing out in the woods? Why wasn't she in her cabin? Who knows what happened? Her mom and sister are searching for answers, along with the police, and Zoe's best friends. Told from several perspectives, the story is captivating and the answers are not as obvious as you would think. The book will also make you think about people and how we treat others and what that looks like in real life. Very well written, I finished the book in just one day. Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to review this book. All opinions are my own. #thegirlwhonevercamehome #nicoletrope #bullying #bookstagram #all_the_pages
An in depth, powerful story that tackles a variety of issues that are present in most peoples lives in some way.
When a student goes missing whilst on a camping trip with their high school, it quickly becomes apparent that something truly awful had occurred. As they try to get to the bottom of what exactly took place that day and why, it causes a huge ripple effect through the families, students and the school.
This book had me well and truly captivated to the very last page. The author really brings the story to life within your mind and you find yourself on a rollercoaster of emotions along with the characters as the story unfolds and we reach the conclusion.
A page turner that had me reading late in to the night. A definite must read.
The Girl Who Never Came Home by Nicole Trope is an excellent novel that addresses so many issues that happen in our society today. The plot revolves around a group of ;high school students that go on a school sponsored camp outing. A student is missing and it is soon evident that something horrible has happened. The relationship among family members, students, and the teaching faculty of the school are all explored during this novel. What really happened? Why did this happen? I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. A school camping trip.
A girl leaves the cabin in the middle of the night.
After a good search her body is found.
This story is told by numerous people who knew Zoe but all is not what a wonderful person she was.
So many layers in this book
A good read
Thanks NetGalley
