This was a cute take on the classic Christmas carol. I loved the illustrations and found this especially appealing to younger kids. But it almost felt like there was something for all ages.
You had the classic carol, some history, a search and find photo, and cute illustrations. This would be great for the whole family to enjoy.
I do wish it seemed a little more festive Christmas but it makes sense give the history and purpose of the song. Very cute.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Such a lovely book, with beautiful illustrations. I particularly enjoyed the last page looking for everything!
A perfect Christmas gift for children and adults alike.
I can’t wait for Christmas!
This is a lovely depiction of the well known Christmas song. The illustrations are a modern interpretation which includes many items found at Christmas in the home. The pictures are clear and of a simple style which helps the spotting of various items. After the first few days not every item mentioned in the song for that day is included, but at the very end of the book there is a large spread which does include all the gifts mentioned in the song for children to spot perhaps with the help of a companion. There is also an interesting section explaining the history of the song.
This would make a very special Christmas gift for a child.
Ah, a classic.
This is a great picture book with colourful illustrations to the tune of The Twelve Days of Christmas. Get your singing voice ready, because this song is gonna be stuck in your head... so you might as well sing it! Who cares if it's not even October yet? SING ON.
I love the pictures in this book! I remember back in my youth I had a picture book with the song in it and it was so dull. It literally showed the exact pictures and I thought it was dumb (I was like... 4? I was already a critical reviewer. What can I say?). This book has more colours, more pictures and keeps you looking around the picture. Every time you will find something new. This may be too busy for some readers, but for me it was a fun outing.
This book does add something "new" to the story: It has some facts at the end about the song! So I was pleasantly surprised AND I learned something new.
Four out of five stars.

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
Hawthorne offers a fresh look at a familiar song for the holiday season. Readers will enjoy finding the gifts on each page as they read through this older Christmas song. The various gifts interact and mingle in the softly colored illustrations. I appreciate the seek and find page spread at the end of the book along with the information text about the song.
A delightful new book to add to family collections.
This book beautifully illustrates the classic Christmas carol '12 days of Christmas'. I loved the calmikg colors used in the pictures and the Christmas details on each page. It was also fun to have the hidden images search at the end of the story.
The illustrations are so cute and festive. A great book for Christmas and for reminiscing the holidays.
Thank you NetGalley for my copy of 12 Days of Christmas by Lara Hawthorne
I adored this sweet picture book about the 12 days of Christmas. It has bright, colorful illustrations on every page. I also enjoyed the spot at the end that gives a bit more history on the origins of the 12 Days of Christmas song. This one is definitely going on our favorite Christmas books shelf!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
I love the 12 Days of Christmas. I have a ton of books that I use in the classroom for students to compare and contrast with. The illustrations in this one are going to be so fun for them to look through. I can already picture students using the various illustrations to play I-spy. A great book for a fun carol.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
The content of the book was the carol the 12 days of Christmas. The illustrations were beautiful though, and it would be great reinforcement for number identification or learning the song.
I received an advance copy of, 12 Days of Christmas, by Lara Hawthorne. I love the song, and I love this book. The pictures are great very bright, but no to Christmasy. You can sing along while you read the book!
Thanks netgally for allowing me to read This book. I think kids of all ages will enjoy this book. The pictures were well done and will put anyone in the holiday spirit.
I absolutely loved this illustrated version of one of my favourite christmas themed poems.
The use of bright colors and coordinating the scenes as the poem progresses looked surreal!
I can't wait for the title to release so I can get a physical copy and have a very Christmas-sy experience!
Probably one of the prettiest copies of The 12 Days Of Christmas. I loved all the illustrations & I how even though the story is one filed with chaos it’s still beautifully depicted in this book. I think this copy would be perfect to keep as a special Christmas book which could be passed down for generations.
Hawthorne's 12 Days of Christmas is filled with lovely illustrations to go along with the Christmas song. There are no additions to the song except a short note in the back telling a little about the song and how it came about. While I found the illustrations lovely, the font leaves something to be desired. If you have a reading impediment, I can see the nonaligned font causing problems. Otherwise, it is a nice picture book that will go well in a child's holiday book collection.
Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the opportunity to read an advance reading copy.
A beautiful book based on the eponymous classic Christmas song. The pictures were beautiful and whimsical with tons of fun details to spot. Children and adults will surely enjoy this one!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
I got this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This is a really nice picturebook, and I love the art on each spread! It really makes the poem come to life and helps contextualize what it is actually saying. I also really like that it had the explanation on one of the final pages!
This was a super fun and cute read. The text is the same as the 12 Days of Christmas song, but the illustrations really added a special something to the story. The colors on the illustrations were beautiful, and made for a very engaging read. The last illustration with all of the hidden objects was a fun and unexpected addition.
Lara Hawthorne's style comes through in these beautiful illustrations. The girl starring in the book begins with a few animal friends -- a dog, a black cat, and a mouse. These animals continue through the story on each page and add another animal (partridge, hens, etc.) as each thing is added in the song.
There are so many details in the images that it would be a fun book to go through as a family and point out the different things you see. "Find the black cat" or "find the mouse" will be popular games with this title! One of my favorite small details is one of the six geese a-laying -- who has made a nest on the toilet and has toilet paper in her mouth! I also loved the mouse wearing a top hat and carrying a cane for ten lords a-leaping and playing a drum with the twelve drummers drumming.
True to the detail of the rest of the book, there is a bonus spread at the end with all of the characters from the carol hidden fo you to find. In this picture, the woman and her "true love" (also a woman) are surrounded by their animals and the gifts from the carol.
Highly recommended for families looking for a fun Christmas activity and story to read.
A delightfully illustrated edition of the traditional Christmas song. The French hens are especially lovely. There's a lot to look at on each page - the depiction of the day's gift, from the partridge in her pear tree to to the twelve drummers drumming, as well as a dog, a cat and a mouse that appear in each spread. It was fun to look for them all and see where they turned up.
