I thought the first half of the book was a bit slow and it took me a while to really get into it. Then I hit the last 200 or so pages and I absolutely flew through the book!
I do agree with a lot of the comments from people saying that a lot of things could be solved by the main characters actually talking to one another and that’s getting to be a very overdone trope. A lot of the ending may have been different had people just talked to each other throughout the book.
Otherwise the ending was crazy and so so good and I cannot wait to read Furysong to find out what’s going to happen next!

Fireborne was good, but Flamefall was amazing! Griff was my favorite character, and the addition of his POV added a lot to the story. I loved getting to see his perspective in New Pythos and how his treatment there contrasted with how people were treated in Callipolis.

Annie and Lee continue to have big will they won’t they energy in this, but I enjoyed how their desires for the future diverged in this book. They both fit into their roles well, and I’m interested to see how they use them in the next book.

The cliffhanger shook me, and I cannot wait to read the last book in the series. I truly can’t believe I waited so long to read these books, but I would highly recommend them for people who love dragons and immersive fantasy.

This book was just sadly not for me! I was hoping for something different but it turned out to be something I was not expecting, which is okay and I'm sure someone else would love it!

I loved the story, the world building and meeting the different characters. I felt completely immersed in the story and couldn't stop reading it.

This book definitely doesn’t suffer from the second book symptom! We still got a lot of action and all of it was very purposeful! You get dragons, betrayals, revolution and so much more. I love a childhood friends to lovers and this develops so well. We also got a new POV which only added an extra layer to this story! I can’t wait to see where this series takes us next, I can only imagine it’s going to be wild!

This series is a work of art. I am a huge sucker for dragons so I was definitely drawn in by that aspect but I stayed for the feelings and goodness gracious are there an abundance of them.

I’m literally writing and rewriting this review because my brain will not function to make coherent thoughts.

I’m speechless, go read this

I started this book, but was just too confused to complete it. It is the second book in the series, so I feel it is necessary to read the first book prior to get a better understanding of the characters and plot. I didn’t realize this was a sequel when I originally got the book.

This! This is how a sequel should be written! Most authors tend to fall a little flat with the second book in a series/duology, but this was amazing.

Picking up where Fireborne left off, food supplies are dwindling. Hunger, rationing, and withheld information make things worse. To remedy the situation , rebels are rising up against the government again. This leaves , Antigone sur Aela and her best rider, Lee sur Pallor, suffering from flameshock, to balance serving the people and keeping order. Many riders, including Lee, howevver, are starting to wonder if the rebels are right. Meanwhile, in New Pythos, the old regime’s dragons have sparked and are ready for war. Can the Guardians and humble-riders work together to build something new? Or will the dragonlords get their war? The characters are compelling and complex. The plot is well-written, thought-provoking, and has a good pace. With lots of dragon battles, clandestine missions, and secret meetings, readers will keep wanting to turn the pages. Readers who enjoy complex, interesting fantasies with romance will want to pick this one up. You will, however, need to read the others in the series

Fast paced sequel. Worldbuilding was awesome, the characters kept the plot going. Definitely something that will keep you hooked. I loved the dynamic between the main characters and the evolution of their character as well!

I’m really enjoying this series! It’s been a lot of disappointing reads so i’m relieved this one had me intrigued and hooked! This is a fantastic middle book in a series and highly recommend the series.

These are the type of books that attracted me to this genre of which I’m fairly new. This story consumed me. It’s intense and dark and so absorbing in the best possible way .

This eARC was gifted to me by Penguin Teen in exchange for an honest review! This is the sequel to Fireborne, and it was honestly a letdown because I loved the first book so much. The beginning of Flamefall seemed like a repeat of the first in terms of relationship dynamics and certain scenarios. It wasn't until the halfway point that the different plot threads came together and I was hooked in the way I've come to expect from Munda. There was also so much conflict in this book that could have been solved by communication (like, literally a single conversation) and I just didn't find that to be compelling.

Some characters were still great and some characters still sucked, and that's all I'm going say about that. The action scenes were still amazing, as was the political climate (although I found some part of this repetitive as well). I'm still looking forward to the conclusion of the trilogy but this one definitely suffered from second book syndrome!

Filled with tremendous world building, this story centers on classism and revolution. Well written, this sequel does justice to its predecessor, Fireborne. I was kept wanting more and look forward to revisiting Annie and Lee in the third installment of The Aurelian Cycle series!

I feel very thankful and fortunate to have had the opportunity to read this book before it coming out. But on the flip side, I was itching and aching so badly to geek and freak out over it with other people. There is… so much to unpack and to experience in this sequel.

The cover was great but couldn’t get into the story. I do think others might connect to this one more. Three stars.

I have come to the realization that this is a sequel and not the first book, and therefore, since I have not read the first one yet I am not able to review this book the way it deserves. I will say, however, that I have heard great things and I am very excited for this series. I am hoping to read these soon so that I can update my review.

Flamefall just wasn’t the book for me! I liked Fireborne, but struggled to reconnect with the story in Flamefall. I thought that the world-building was intriguing and Munda did a great job expanding on what she set up in the first book. I’m not quite sure why but I felt disconnected from the characters. At first, I though I just wasn’t in the right mood. But after picking this one up three different times, I’m conceding defeat and admitting that this isn’t the book for me.

Flamefall is the sequel to Fireborne that picks up a month or so where its predecessor left off and also sets up for the eventual finale to the Aurelian Cycle trilogy. Flamefall details the dramatic aftermath of Lee killing his cousin Julia in a duel to prove his loyalty to the Callipolans, in particular the impact that a low-born dragonrider named Griff, whom Julia protected, has on Lee and Annie's lives.

Griff is also a new POV character in this sequel (Fireborne was told from the alternating first-person perspectives of Lee and Annie, who also help tell the story in Flamefall, of course). I've only seen the mid-series addition of a new POV character a handful of times (the only one that comes to mind, actually, is An Ember in the Ashes), but I think that Munda did it really well. Griff's point of view adds to the story, and doesn't distract from Lee's or Annie's character development or narratives. In fact, there were a ton of new characters in Flamefall, but I still felt like they were the stars of the show. The inclusion of the new characters was not gratuitous--even if they did not undergo major character development, each one had something to contribute.

Speaking of Lee and Annie, their romance remains rather tentative in Flamefall, and while I was hoping to see it flesh out into something more serious, there are a bunch of external circumstances that get between them so I guess it's justifiable. Annie is struggling to fulfill her hard-earned leadership duties because she has become the target of collective distrust, and Lee ends up having some rather conflicted loyalties. Maybe their romance will finally become something more serious in the finale.

Overall, this was a great sequel, and I'm curious to see what the third book holds!
