Wish I had read this book sooner, was a great thrilling read with good established characters and plot. Will recommend to family and friends.
I loved Parker - what a great protagonist with a fantastic back story. The story itself is strong and has a good balance of technical details and general observations. I recommend this for people who like the Reacher books.
I felt this was overly complicated and the story was jumping from person to person and story to story. Will Parker seems to have done it all. Former prosecutor, military man, and man of adventure. There were a lot of out door scenes that dragged on for me. I give it a 3 because for me it was just ok. I don’t expect a ton of character development in a thriller but some is nice. And when the character you are trying to rescue is plain unsympathetic it makes it even harder..
I was given a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review.
5th book in the Will Parker series but that just means I've been waiting for awhile since I read the 4th one! Each book is really written as a stand alone adventure in the life of Will Parker, so you can easily read this one without first enjoying the other four.....oh well.
Will Parker...or rather DA Will Parker is a former Marine with a special set of skills. When there is a credible threat against the out going US President's daughter, Will somehow finds himself in the middle of the locate and secure/rescue mission to prevent a terrorist's plan for revenge. If you are a fan, you know this terrorist should have stayed home today. But now that he has crossed into US territory, he and his followers will have the worst day of their lives, courtesy of Will Parker and friends. Another great military themed thriller from Anderson Harp.
This is a totally implausible but entertaining read. Elizabeth, code named Mercury, is the daughter of the former President and the target of an assassination attempt in revenge for an airstrike. Retired Marine Will Parker, now a prosecutor in Georgia, is roped in to finding and rescuing her when she goes missing. Harp has wisely written this from multiple perspectives- Will, Elizabeth, the terrorist, and so on- which will keep you turning the pages. Those who like military technology will enjoy it here as will those who like thrillers with a military theme. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This would be a good airplane book.
This is a great read if you like military thrillers. It's the 5th in a series but it didn't matter that I hadn't read the first four, which I appreciated. It's told through several POVs, including that of a terrorist traveling to kill the outgoing president's daughter (secret service code name Mercury), an ex-military guy who's the main character, the daughter and occasionally a few others. The level of detail about things like new military aircrafts and how terrorists work was really impressive and I appreciated that each character's story was told completely through their experiences, so even the terrorist was a completely understandable character even if he was someone you were rooting against. It moves at a fast pace. I was annoyed at the last paragraph, but not enough to deduct a star. Altogether a good read.
I read a digital ARC for the purpose of review.
I enjoyed reading this book, and will likely look for more books with Will Parker in them. I liked the multiple storylines and felt it was easy to follow the different characters.
I am curious if it is actually that easy for former Marines to gain access to things that would generally not be open or available to information and such.
Fifth book in a thrilling series with each book independent of the others and each involving former DA WIll Parker, a Marine colonel with skills, honors, and insight far beyond those of most mortals. In this story, Parker must fight enemies, foreign and domestic who are endangering the life of the former “first daughter”. Well-designed plot and characters keep the story moving at a fast pace.
