Thoughts of Dog is an incredibly sweet, super short, illustrated book about a dog and his stuffed "fren." I love the dog's personality and they way he interprets life. His fren is just as adorably illustrated as he is. I wanted this to be longer because I was having so much fun.
This is an adorable book. Dog and his stuffed fren will bring a smile to your face. Enjoy their fun adventures as they explore the world around them. This book will make a perfect gift for any dog lover.
A sweet and cute story that made me smile. I loved the style of writing and the drawings. It was great to see the world with the eyes of a dog.
It's strongly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This book was so cute and written from the dogs perspective. It was a nice story about mans best friend and I loved the illustrations!
Fans of the famous Twitter account are sure to love this book. It’s sweet and funny and a great reminder of why dogs are a blessing. I’ll be giving out several copies as gifts.
Matt Nelson’s Thoughts of Dog is a lovely, pure, and sweet picture book detailing the adventures of a good dog. This is a funny, wholesome, and heart-warming book that will be perfect for both the kids and adults in your life.
I absolutely loved this darling collection! This book takes us through several little adventures in the life of a very good dog and his stuffed elephant “fren” Sebastian. This friendly dog shows us that there’s magic and joy to be found in everyday events like building a snowman, having a movie night, going to the beach, and getting a new mailman.
Every little chapter is so happy and warm and filled with such sweet and innocent humour. I couldn’t help but smile and sniffle my way through this book! I just love every cute and moving interaction that Dog has with children, other dogs, and people. I also love the joy and happiness that Dog shares with others. Throughout the book, Nelson nicely manages to evoke warm feelings of friendship, love, and togetherness, without being forced or cheesy.
The writing is simple, easy-to-follow, and very fitting. It will be just lovely to read out loud with kids.
The art style is simple but nicely done and adorable. The full-page pictures are just so fun and sweet. Although there isn’t a lot of detail in the pictures, there’s just something so pure and approachable about the drawings. I love the soft and gentle colours. I especially love how cute and expressive Dog’s face is.
🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶 out of 5 good dogs!
Warning: Wholesome content inside!
I want this book to be non-fiction and firmly believe that Matt Nelson is a modern-day Dr. Doolittle, telling us what our canine companions really think about each day. Spoiler alert - it's you! If you're familiar with the Thoughts of Dog Twitter feed, then you're familiar with the premise. This book takes those little 280-character morsels of dog thoughts and expands on it, making each entry a bit more of a story with illustrations of a Golden Retriever and it's stuffed fren Sebastian.
I was hoping for something a little different than the Twitter feed in terms of content, perhaps a new doggo fren. Overall this is still a great book that made me feel feelings, but they were all a bit more on the sweet/sad side of the spectrum. If there's a sequel, I'd love to see a bit more variety & silliness in the thoughts. My dog has many personalities and I think this little Golden girl does, too.

I’ve decided it would be great to be a dog … especially the blonde Twitter pooch who penned the most charming gift and tabletop book I have ever seen.
Authored by Twitter sensation Matt Nelson and released Oct 27 by Andrews McMeel Publishing, Thought of Dog is a 100-page delight featuring, a very special dog whose favorite thing in life is to live it alongside his owner, “the human” and with Sebastian, his stuffed elephant best friend.
When I began reading this adorable book, I was a bit confused.
Terrible spelling, grammar, and punctuation that distracted me so much I questioned whether this book was edited. I kept thinking this book is written so poorly, it could easily be penned by a dog.
Dah. (Insert V8 head slap here.)
Once I comprehended this first-person text was the story of a dog’s life, written by the dog, I was not only enchanted but knew it was perfect.
Thoughts of Dog was a true page-turner. I couldn’t wait to see what this sweetheart of a pooch was going to say next. It wasn’t long before I started contemplating how fun living a dog’s life would be.
After all, “Everyone should experience the joy of sticking their tongue out of a moving vehicle,” this dog writes in his book.
Thoughts of Dog was an oddly calming reminder that we humans spend too much of our lives in a state of stress and production, when clearly, the innocent loving demeanor of this dog and his faithful “fren” Sebastian is a far better road to follow. Thoughts of Dog makes me want to hug someone – perhaps my own Labrador retriever.
I saw Thoughts of Dog as a message to human readers that while we exist in this world of responsibility and pressure, our dog friends live in a world of love and service.
This is an excellent Christmas or Hanukkah present for the stressed-out reader who needs a reminder that innocence and kindness still exist.
Silly humans. We still think making money and gaining success is the way to go.
Reader, I promise you, after you are finished enjoying Thoughts of Dog, you too will realize that seeking happiness just rose to a whole new level.

Happy are those who respect the Lord and obey him. You will enjoy what you work for, and you will be blessed with good things. Psalm 128: 1-2
Thoughts of Dog is one of my favorite Instagram accounts. Who wouldn't love the most precious photos matched with an adorable caption? This book did really well to capture that same genuine cuteness of the Instagram account.
I didn't even know that this book is inspired by a twitter account (There are more and more books coming out like this, I'm starting to notice) but I'll be following that account ASAP.
This was such a cute story about a dog and his stuffed elephant and what he gets up to on different occasion with his human, and the writing style is made to resemble how people think dogs would talk/think. It's very cute and put a smile on my face, and I wish there was a similar one for cats.
Suitable for kids and adults wanting a quick heartwarming laugh.
I thank Netgalley for the ARC
Hey folks, daddy Steve here with some talk of a sweet little doggiebook. This time it’s not a novel or a big non fiction book but a nice illustrated Thoughts of Dog book by Matt Nelson.
If you are a dog lover, you have got to know Thoughts of Dog. And if you didn’t know about it yet, look for it either on Facebook, Tweeter or Instagram. A bit like Malcolm, he posts his thoughts (duh!) in a tweet type format. Every time I read one, I can always feel like it’s Malcolm talking to me.
As I said, this book isn’t a big novel but an illustrated book. Like a kids book but just as much for adults. I really loved it, was moved by it. There were moments my heart swelled. Got the feeling this would be a perfect Christmas gift for any dog lover...
Huge thanks to NetGalley who provided a free eBook advanced reader’s copy in exchange for my honest review. This is as honest as it gets...

My daughter introduced me to Thoughts of Dog and We Rate Dogs which I follow on Facebook. (I know it is mainly a Twitter thing but I am still in a FB world.) I enjoy Matt Nelson and look forward to any of his posts. I was so excited to see a Thoughts of Dog book. Designed as a children's book it follows Dog and his Fren Sebastian on adventures throughout a year. Building a snowman, movie night, going to the beach etc. My favorite sections are the 4th of July and the Mailman. Both brought tears to my eyes. The illustrations are cheery and the words are essentially the best of Thoughts of Dog. This is a wonderful children's book or gift for any dog lover. I look forward to adding it to my school library and will keep fingers crossed for future adventures of Dog and Sebastian.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I've been a fan of Matt's Thoughts of Dog Twitter account for a really long time and I'm glad that a book was finally being released, showcasing never before seen stories of our fluffy dog friends.
This book was so wholesome and made my heart burst with joy reading it. I loved following the dog and his stuffed friend, Sebastian. The illustrations were stunning and I loved the dog's thoughts throughout. It was a pleasure reading this book. I definitely recommend this to all dog lovers alike!
Such a fun book! The illustrations are adorable. Perfect for any dog lover in your life! I am recommending to a few of my fellow dog loving friends!
A sweet, lighthearted look at daily life through the eyes of our faithful pets. I'll be honest--I'm more of a cat person, but these charming thoughts are for anyone, regardless of pet preference. If you're stressed out, this book and its simple illustrations are a great way to spend an hour lowering your heart rate and bringing back your smile.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing an ARC for my honest review.
Thoughts of Dog's twitter is the only account that I have set notifications for. It is an instant dose of happy and I love to hear about his adventures.
I am so happy that Matt Nelson wrote a book about some of the adventures that we haven't seen yet.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves thoughts of a dog twitter or just dogs in general.
I've been a fan of WeRateDogs and Thoughts of Dog on Twitter for a few years now and I was really excited to read this cute story by the creator Matt. This story is just so cute and wholesome and it's the perfect little book to warm your heart if you love pups. Its the story of a gooooob dog and his stuffed "fren" Sebastian going on little adventures together. I loved the artwork and the story and would highly recommend to all the dog lovers out there who want to read a cute story that will make them smile!
This is such a cute book! Colorful, simple drawings depicting the thoughts & activities of a beautiful dog/friend! Simple text that sure seems like what a dog seems to be thinking! Everyone who's loved a dog can surely relate to this & will like this book. Recommended for all ages! This was the 1st time I'd read any of Matt Nelson.......now consider myself a fan!
I did receive a complimentary e-ARC of this book from Andrews McMeel Publishing via NetGalley, in return for reading it & posting my own fair & honest review.
I had been a fan of 'Thoughts of Dog' and 'WeRateDogs' on Twitter for a few years now so I was excited to read this cute story by the creator, I really enjoyed seeing life from the POV of a dog and his 'fren' and all the adventure they get up to together. It was a very sweet and fun story with great illustrations.
In times like these, we need some simple warmth, and "Thoughts of Dog" fits the bill. It's always a balancing act for an author to take an animal's point of view, without sounding precious. Nelson succeeds here, by giving Dog a voice that is both pragmatic and kind. The illustrations and text are simple enough for a young reader, while giving this admittedly soft hearted adult a nice lift.
For all but the most cynical, this is a good quick read while cuddling with your "stuffed fren" (words of dog) during social distancing.
