A man obsessed with the mystery of his sister’s disappearance 20 years ago.
An accidental discovery that time travel is possible.
A chance to save his sister.
I really loved the premise for this book, and the story lived up to my expectations! The time-travel was fun, exciting, and unexpected. I enjoyed the main character’s drive and determination about finding his sister, and I loved how the story wrapped up!
The main character, Joe, is absolutely a wreck from the disappearance of his sister. He’s become a recluse and is about to lose his home. His life and family fell apart after Amy went missing. I enjoyed this distraught behavior in him in the beginning. It created such a character arc as he discovers his ability to time travel. I thought he was a good MC and I enjoyed his story from start to finish. There were a few other side characters that I really enjoyed as well. One, a record store owner, brings some light moments that made me smile a lot.
I liked Joe’s time travel situation. I really enjoy time travel because there are so many ways an author can take the story. This one had some fun rules that made the story really interesting and helped move the plot along.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! It was hard for me to put aside, and when I wasn’t reading, I was wondering what Joe was up to!
I was provided a gifted copy of this book for free. I am leaving my review voluntarily.
A good time travel/mystery story. There were a few spins on it you don't see in every time travel book. There were a few of the discrepancies you see in all time travel books. What it comes down to is that if you like time travel books you will probably like this one. There is a little bit here and there and at the end that give it a little extra something.

And The She Vanished is about the disappearance of Joseph Bridgeman's little sister, Amy. Teenaged Joe accompanies 7 year old Amy to the local fair. While there, she mysteriously disappears. Twenty years later, the family has been torn apart and Joe still blames himself for her disappearance. After seeing a hypnotherapist for his insomnia, he discovers that he can time travel. Using this gift, he makes up his mind to go back and save Amy.
This story was quite good and I loved the surprise twist at the end. I truly did not expect that. The plot moved quickly and I found myself fully immersed in the story.
The character development was done quite well. It was heartbreaking to see how the disappearance affected the family. As a parent of two children with the same age difference as Joe and Amy, it was hard to think about. On the lighter side, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about Vinny, Joe's closest friend.
I enjoyed this author's writing and would definitely try more books by him.
This book can be read by teens and adults. There was a suicide mentioned within this book as well as an accidental death which can be disturbing for younger readers. There was very little sexual content (kissing).
And Then She Vanished is a story about loss after an event from the past. If you could go back in time and change something that altered your life in such an horrific way, would you?

This book begins with teenage Joseph accompanying his 7 year old sister at the town fair. While Joseph is trying to win a prize for his sister, she vanishes in a matter of seconds. Turning his head for one moment, and little Amy was gone. Over the years, Joe blames himself and the disappearance of Amy is something that ripped his family apart. After meeting with a hypnotherapist, something inside of Joe reveals itself and he is left with a gift that he can use to figure out what happened to his sister all those years ago.

This book gave me so many Butterfly Effect vibes. The idea of time travel in order to alter the way an event happened was so intriguing for me. Joe uses these new abilities to travel in time only to be left disappointed as he figures out how to use this new gift. Will be succeed in finding out the truth of what happened to Amy?

The hardest part of this read was the devastation that occurs within a family after a child goes missing. Something that I can not even begin to imagine as a parent. There were many suspenseful parts though, and I loved the idea of a devoted older brother fighting to right the wrong he has felt for years. This book was a little Sci-Fi which is something I’m not used to, so there were times that I felt a bit confused. I do hope this is the beginning of a series though because that cliffhanger at the end left me wanting so much more.

Thank you so much @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for this advanced reader’s copy. Pub date February 2, 2021.
This is a wonderful book. I was so happily surprised and pleased to lose myself in the story and become immersed in the characters and details of the plot that I just did not want it to end. AND THEN SHE VANISHED seemed to be one of the many mystery thrillers written to tax minds with clues about serial killers but, no, this isn’t that kind of book at all. Author Nick Jones has written a wonder of a tale that delights on so many levels. Devoted siblings, lives torn asunder, friendships left undone, and bits of magical connections waiting to be heard all conspire to create a great tale. The author’s website indicates there’s a second in a series and here’s hoping it gets published as well. I can’t wait. I received my copy from the publisher through Netgalley.
When I picked this book up, I had assumed it was going to be a straight mystery story about a female vanishing as lately had been going through a mystery/crime buzz with my reading. The book starts with Joseph watching his 7-year-old sister Amy at the local fair back in 1997. After winning a prize for her and turning his back for a few minutes, Amy vanishes and disappears. People search and scour but there is no sign of her and after a few years, the case becomes cold and Amy is another statistic for the list of missing children. Joseph has never forgotten her and the incident and blames himself. As he is getting older, Joseph has the gift of psychometry but after taking the advice of his best friend, Joseph decides to visit a hypnotherapist and get her to take him back to that day. However, his visit will open him up to other gifts he never knew he had - in particular, time-traveling. At first, he does little jumps to save his family home and his family from going into financial ruin with things like the lottery, etc. Eventually, he will work himself up to trying longer times, as if he can master this then maybe he can go back to that fateful day in 1997 and save his sister Amy from going missing. However, what will he discover when he does meet Amy from 1997 and learns the truth about her vanishing? Can he save Amy and his current reality or will there be a ripple effect/ butterfly effect and his present world has changed? Find out in this Nick Jones's mystery that will be perfect for fans of Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveller's Wife or the Ashton Kutcher movie "The Butterfly Effect".
Wow!!! This book is so intriguing and I found myself unable to stop turning the pages! I was shocked (in a good way) by the time traveling part! “And Then She Vanished” is not your typical book about a child disappearing! This is a 2020 Must Read!
"And Then She Vanished" is a sci-fi novel about a man who begins to time travel in the hopes that he can prevent his sister's disappearance from happening. I've been reading quite a few books about time travel lately, and I think that when that trope is done really well, it can make the book a very captivating read, and that's how I felt about this book. I think that the book put an interesting spin on the time travel trope by adding in a hypnotist and psychological elements to it.
Overall, I thought that it was a great read and I would highly recommend it to fans of the time travel trope.
This book was not what I was expecting, I was surprised with the time travel and the method he used to do it. It wasn’t very believable, and didn’t feel like anything new but that being said it was a somewhat enjoyable read.
Joe Bridgeman finds himself suddenly able to time travel. At first he is freaked out but then realizes he can use this to go back in time and save his little sister who went missing while they were kids.
Sounds like an interesting book right? Well sadly the main character isn’t very likable and throughout the story he comes off as annoying and arrogant at times. It took me a while to get into this book since most of the middle seemed very very repetitive. When the ending finally came together and the rewards of his time travel are laid out, it was unsurprising and fell flat. This is the first book of an upcoming series and I am intrigued to read the next book to see what else Joe Bridgman can get up to in his time travel.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book.
What would you do if you could go back in time and fix ONE thing? Well, Joe Bridgeman gets just the chance when he learns he can time travel back in time.
15 year old Joe takes his 5 year old sister to the county fair for some fun, as he is a great big brother. Trying to impress his crush and win his sister a giant teddy bear, Joe plays a carnival game. When Joe looks away to focus on the game and wins, he is proud of himself and expects his sister to be ecstatic. Except she is no longer standing beside him, and no one knows where she is. She vanished.
Flash forward to present day. Joe is a hermit, never leaves his home except to visit a record store. HIs mother has Vascular Dementia and is in a home. His life since the moment his sister went missing has been difficult and filled with grief. When Joe finds out he can time travel, he is scared and then becomes determined to find out what happened to his sister at the fair. Will he be able to travel that far? Will he succeed?
This novel is surrounded by loss. It shows the devastation a family goes through when a member goes missing. I did like the premise and felt it was a great idea. The character development is strong, and you do feel for Joe. I wanted him to succeed and I wanted to know what happened to his sister. I will say, it definitely needed more details. The whole time travel thing was a bit blurry. I felt like a chunk of the book was missing and was a little confused. I had to go back and re-read it to find out what was going on. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys family dynamic and also some science fiction.
Thank you to Netgalley and Blackstone publishing for the ability to read this novel in exchange for my honest review.
