It was like reading a Hallmark Christmas movie put into a book.
There were a few places where things could have been trimmed or eliminated entirely that slowed the pace down just a bit, but it's a nice book.
Overall it's a fast and cute read.
An utterly charming festive read. Grab a hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream, curl into an armchair and enjoy.
Lovely feel good seasonal book. It was just lovely. Romantic book you dream about. Great plot and characters. Perfect for reading over the festive period. Or at any time if the year. Christmas books can be enjoyed anytime anywhere. Very well written and flowed well.
The Little Christmas Shop on Nutcracker Lane is a a sweet read full of Christmas magic, definitely would make a good holiday book club choice!
So this is exactly what I’m looking for when I want to read a cute Christmas book!
Nia has been wanting to work at Nutcracker Lane her whole life, and this year she finally gets the opportunity! But turns out that the owner of the place is not too happy about Nutcracker Lane’s sales from recent years, so he keeps cutting budgets and even makes long time friends compete against each other.
Not everything seems to be bad though, since a new face appears at Nutcracker Lane, and Nia can’t stop asking herself if he’s the Prince Charming she’s been asking for. A real shame that he seems to hate Christmas so much, but it’s nothing that Christmas-loving Nia can’t help with.
Both main characters have been through heartbreak, and are not sure they want to open their hearts to someone and risk getting hurt again, but since pretty much the moment they meet, James and Nia are totally smitten, and try to spend every moment they can together. And they are oh so cute!
First off I want to thank the author and Netgalley for gifting me the ebook. I thought the story was very cute and a perfect Hallmark movie. A very unique story. The author did a great job with the writing also.
Very cute story, perfect feel good book to curl up with in December.
I really liked the characters, I love Nutcracker Lane. I love Christmas and reading this book felt like being there on the lane.
A cozy, Christmas read that is sure to warm the heart! This was a fun, light read and I enjoyed the characters and setting.
A great book to read over the Christmas season, thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you for sending me a copy.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
This book has everything you can possibly want in order to be able to curl up with a fluffy blanket a hot chocolate and zone out for a little while.
Nia is a wonderful character who despite her own losses does everything in her power to save Nutcracker lane. The characters are well thought out, the relationships between them all work wonderfully. It was incredibly easy to lose track of time in this book. The only down side was that I read it far too quickly and didn't want it to end. I can thoroughly recommend this book for anyone wanting a little escapism.
It’s the most magical time of year, and anything can happen…
Nia Maddison has always believed that wishes come true on Nutcracker Lane. So, when she gets the opportunity to run her own Christmas gift shop on the most magical street in town, it feels like her wishes have been finally granted.
But working late one night, Nia discovers yet another boyfriend has cheated on her. As she trudges home – alone, again – she passes the (supposedly) magical nutcracker and half-joking thinks a wish can’t hurt. Cracking a nut in its mouth, she wishes to find Prince Charming.
The next day Nia gets to work to find another decoration shop has opened directly across the lane from her own, and she can’t resist having a nose around.
Whilst there, she accidentally backs into a human-sized Nutcracker, knocking it over and breaking it. Mortified, she flees from the store but when she gathers her resolve to go back and apologise, she stumbles across the gorgeous shop owner James, who looks exactly like Prince Charming…
Could her Christmas wish from the night before really be coming true?
Definitely a feel good Christmas book and super cute! Loved seeing how everything played out for Nia and James in the end!
This was such a cute little book! I recently read Snowflakes at the Little Christmas Tree Farm by the same author and really liked it, so I was super excited when I saw this was available to request. This one was even better! I loved the story. So Christmassy! It was just what I needed to help get me in the Christmas spirit. My only problem with the book is that the author frequently used "I" when she should have used "me." I usually let that kind of thing go, but when you're an experienced author you should know better. I'm looking forward to reading many more books by this author! Thank you to HarperCollins and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Such a perfectly cute Christmas story!
Nia loves Christmas and has a store with her best friend on Nutcracker Lane, a Christmas village of sorts, where they sell their handmade crafts.
Unfortunately, sales are not doing well for them and the other vendors, and the accountant for Nutcracker Lane sends a letter saying there will be changes in the new year, which makes for tensions among them.
James is temporarily working across from Nia's store and he tells her he hates Christmas. In exchange for helping them with marketing tips, Nia will help him grow a fondness for Christmas.
I really loved this one and how perfect Nia and James are for each other, their friendship, their chemistry, and their kindness to others. Super cute story.
I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Overall this was a pretty good book. I have never read anything by Jaimie Admans before. I will give her another try.
What a delightful book full of the magic of Christmas, kindness and community!
The protagonist’a love of all things Christmas, and especially her beloved Nutcracker Lane and the memories it holds, is enchanting and delightful! The shopkeepers of Nutcracker Lane are an endearing assortment of individuals, and while the “twist” is very obvious from the start, it is no less charming.
If you want a sweet story that truly highlights the joy and magic of the Christmas season, this book is for you!
I loved this book! Everything you can think of to put you in the Christmas spirit is in here from festive films, to delicious Christmas baking, carol singers, decorations, Christmas jumpers, gingerbread houses, hot chocolate, Christmas songs and of course, nutcrackers. There was one particular part of the story about nutcrackers which reminded me of our local mysterious robot maker. For some time now, a mystery person has been leaving handmade wooden robots around the Portobello area which as you can imagine brings great joy to anyone who finds one. I was lucky enough to find one on Christmas Eve and was delighted!
I really enjoyed reading about the growing friendship and attraction between Nia and James. It was so funny how completely opposite they were in regards to Christmas and Nia's attempts to get James to see the magic were quite often very funny. There was also the mystery of just who James was, appearing so suddenly just after Nia made her Christmas wish. He couldn't really be the nutcracker come to life could he? James was such a intriguing character, particularly as Nia began to learn more about him and his family and why Christmas wasn't quite the same for him. I was willing her to work some Christmas magic on him and so hoping that they would find a happy-ever-after but also had some suspicions about him...
The dedication at the beginning of the book says it is for 'anyone who still believes in the magic of Christmas'. Well, if you didn't before you started reading, you just might by the time you've finished! I think you'll be hard pushed to find a more Christmassy book and if this gorgeous romance doesn't fill you with the Christmas spirit then Bah, Humbug - I think you might be Scrooge himself!
Cute story! Perfect for the holidays. Would give it 3.5 stars. I absolutely loved "The Little Bookshop of Love Stories" so I was looking forward to reading this one. I enjoyed it but didn't love it as much as the previous book. I blame it on the characters. I liked them, but didn't love them. At times I found them both annoying. I didn't really buy James's reasons for hating Christmas. Not sure how Nia made any money. She was never actually in her store working and was always running around Nutcracker Lane with James. She left everything to Stacy. At time the story felt a little slow. I LOVED Nutcracker Lane. I want to check out each of the shops and make a wish on the magical nutcracker.
Definitely recommend the book. It's full of Christmas magic. Loved the about the author portion in the beginning of the book. Made me love Jaimie Admans even more. How can you not love someone who admits having the voice of a dying hyena??? I'm with her about not having enough time to read all the books I want to read. Look forward to reading more books by the author. Loved the cover of the book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from HQ Digital through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was fortunate to receive an ARC of the book and what a lovely little find.
This book is a wonderful feel good story about what the real meaning of Christmas is and should be, for get the expensivd presents and perfect day it is snot giving, sharing community anticipation and acceptance that the day itself is not what Christmas is, it is the build up. We'll written, great believable characters with genuine normal flaws. To read something so heart warming in a world gone a bit mad. Was just a joy. Clichés abundant, but helps to make it a brilliant read. 5stars
My top festive read of 2020. In a year that's made people feel miserable, this brings a little bit of joy into our lives.
Was it predictable, yes. Did I see the "big twist" coming, yes.
But were the characters loveable, absolutely. Did I care about Nutcracker Lane, my goodness so much so you would think I lived just down the road. Am I praying for a sequel, more than you could imagine.
Thank you to Netgalley and HQ for providing me with a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Nia gets the opportunity to run her own Christmas shop on Nutcracker Lane. On the way home one night she passes the supposedly magical nutcracker and half-joking she makes a wish to find Prince Charming. The next day she discovers another shop has opened directly across from her so she goes in to look around.. She soon discovers James the shop owner who looks exactly like Prince Charming. His was a fun Christmas romance.
