I'm always a little scared going into sequels when I loved the first book, but ALL THE TIDES OF FATE was exactly the thrilling, emotional, found family, harrowing adventure I wanted it to be! And while I loved the dynamic between Amora and Bastian, I fell head-first for the side-characters, Vataea and Shanty. Ensambles are so hard to pull off well, and Adalyn writes them to perfection!
I don’t even know where to begin! I absolutely adored this. If you aren’t aware, this is the second novel in the All the Stars & Teeth duology. I don’t want to go much into spoilers, so I will just say what this entails and my feelings.
We have Amora, a Princess turned Queen alongside Bastian, a pirate, and Vataea, a mermaid. While there are other key characters (darling Ferrick!), these are my favorites. We follow them all on an adventure in both books, but the second is much more heart wrenching. There is magic, pining, and secrets. Safe to say I was an emotional wreck.
Amora goes through a great ordeal in the first book, so she is very closed off in the second and has a few panic attacks. I loved how the author, Adalyn, acknowledged these reactions and showed Amora’s mental state. I really felt for Amora and sympathized with her. We have a shared experience, but to avoid spoilers, I won’t clarify what it is.
Bastian. The swoon worthy pirate. I absolutely love him. He says he won’t pine for Amora, but I beg to differ. There was so much angst with them and I ate it up. Seriously, the romance was great in this. I have bookmarked so many scenes of them! We also had a side romance blossoming with Vataea and Ferrick. I just want to say Ferrick is the cutest lovestruck person!
We also have a new member of the crew in this novel named Shanty. We saw her briefly in the first book and I am so happy she got promoted in the second. She is a face/shape shifter who is totally badass. She can swindle anybody and I love to watch her do it.
I just want to quickly mention that the audiobook has a new narrator from the first book. I am so glad they have made that change. The voices for the characters have greatly improved and I really enjoyed it! Just wanted to mention in case people were turned off a bit from the first.
Sorry if this is all over the place, but I am very wary of spoilers. I do want to scream about this, so let me know if you read it! Adalyn Grace really ripped my heart out with the ending.
Thank you to Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for the arc! This title was released February 2, 2021.
Sequels terrify me, especially my most anticipated ones but ADALYN Grace did such an amazing job on all the tides and fate that my heart aches for more at the end. The display of how a person struggles to accept grief was very raw and real. The individual journeys were also very amazing to get to explore.

All The Tides Of Fate continues a few months after the events of All The Stars and Teeth. Amora, the newly crowned queen of Visidia, is pressured with more than the crown, from the aristocratic representatives who are opposing to the changes she brought from the last book to thoughts from her haunting past along with losing her magic, leaving her restless and anxious. In order to restore the kingdom by finding an alliance to secure the throne and with a personal secret agenda, she embarks on a journey again with her amazing crew to travel around her kingdom
I really enjoyed seeing the other islands of Visidia, with an intriguing magic system of their own, but nothing major happens plot-wise for a good part of the book, which made the first half dragging on. As for the characters, I found myself loving the rest of the crew--Bastian, Ferrick, and Vatea. However, I was constantly annoyed with Amora. Her actions were rash and were not thought through. But I enjoyed the relationship between Bastian and Ferrick, and I truly wished they had a bigger part in the story.
The plot picks up in the last quarter of the book, and the twists and turns were quite unexpected. The plot twist was brutal, and I did not see it coming. I enjoyed the duology overall, and definitely recommend it!
Actual rating 3.5 stars.
I really enjoyed All the Stars and Teeth (see my review here), and was really looking forward to this book. When I got approved for this ARC, I was thrilled!
The story picks up a few months after the events of the previous book, and Amora is struggling with grief as she is learning how to rule her kingdom. Her grief is combined with symptoms of trauma, which is completely understandable, after what went down at the end of the last book (which if you haven’t read, why not?) Added to these stressors, Amora also has to hide the fact that she doesn’t have magic anymore.
I loved the connection between the characters, although it felt like Amora consistently set herself apart from them. The quest that they took allowed for a second tour of Visidia, under completely different circumstances, but with no fewer adventures (and danger) of course. I’d honestly expect nothing less. However, while Amora had a goal in mind, she seemed to get thrown more and more off her path over the course of the book. It reminded me of the episode of The Simpsons where Homer is given a choice between two paths to take. One is bright and green, with rainbows and birds, and the other is dark and ominous, with dead trees, and inexplicably, Homer is torn between which path to take. That’s what so much of the book felt like, and it got tiresome. I just wanted to shake Amora and ask what the heck was wrong with her.
I enjoyed the slow-burn tension between Amora and Bastian, although the female side characters stole the show hands down. Vataea and Shanty were the real show-stoppers in the book, in my opinion. There was a lot of action in the story, with a found family trope throughout, despite everything Amora did to push away the people who care about her. It kept me reading and intrigued, and I really, truly wanted to believe that Amora would do the right thing. But since this is a spoiler-free review, you’re just going to have to wait and read it for yourself to find out what happens.
I loved this book! I miss all of these characters so much already! I will say I think I enjoyed All the Stars and Teeth more. Amora came off super whiny/bratty in this book and it kind of put me off. I still enjoyed it immensely and everyone needs to read it!
I didn't think it was possible to love this series any more than I already did, and then All the Tides of Fate came out. Amora goes through so much growth throughout this book as she deals with her grief. Her grief causes her to have nervousness and she makes costly mistakes. I love seeing this in a character. Adalyn Grace didn't just brush it off and move on. She made Amora truly work through her issues. I also liked the deeper relationship between Amora and Bastien. Amora is trying to figure out if they have a true connection or if it is because they share a soul. The ending though is really what sold me. I can't believe it. This was an excellent follow up to the first book!
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book. This book take place right after the events in the first book which is ALL THE STARS AND TEETH. I give this book a 2.5/5 stars. This book is more politics then pirates (hoping for more pirates). While reading this book I find it to be boring even though the characters was traveling to different islands. Amora is annoying and did not like her in this book. She is pretty much immature, naive, entitled and has a bad temper. Shanty,Vataea,Bastian, and Ferrick are my favorite characters in this book, even though they took a back sit in this book. Amora refuses to take anyone's help or advice and then blames others for not understanding her. I also felt like this duology should of be a standalone. Overall,
enjoy Adalyn Grace writing and will read more from her.
In the time I’ve reviewed for The Nerd Daily, I think there’s only one other title I’ve ever been mad at the ending of, but no I have a second title! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED this story, but boy did I get some serious feelings about the way the story ended. All the Tides of Fate was everything I could have wanted in a sequel and more, with adventure, romance, and of course, lots of murderous plots afoot. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read All the Stars and Teeth, you need to go read that one first before you pick this one up because it’s definitely the high seas adventure you’ll want to have as you sail into the spring!
Again, before we get too far, this is the review of a sequel, so don’t read on if you want to avoid spoilers of the first book!
We last left Amora Montara in Visidia, where she’s sacrificed much more than she bargained for in order to keep her kingdom safe. She’s managed to take her rightful place as queen, only to face turmoil among the islands who would sooner tear her down than accept her rule. She endeavours to hide the secrets that might undo her. No one can know about her family curse, her loss of powers, or that a young man holds the other half of her soul. She’ll embark on a quest to save herself and her kingdom, looking for a mythic artifact that could fix everything, but comes at a terrible cost. She’ll soon discover that the power to rule comes at a much higher cost than she could have ever imagined.
Phew, what a summary! When I first got hold of this book, I was absolutely petrified of the choices Amora would have to make in this book. Moreover, I was wondering if she’d make the right ones in order to do what needed to be done. Her character development in the first book had been quite a lot, from being a princess who had it all to becoming a fugitive of the kingdom in order to save it. Amora from book 1 was certainly stubborn, but in the sequel, Amora took that to a whole new level. I spent a good portion of this book groaning at her bullishness, and the other worried at what would happen to the relationships between her and her crew. This book didn’t end up feeling like it was Amora’s time to shine, but rather, her crew’s.
To be fair to Amora, she’s going through a lot. She’s struggling with her mental health with a fair bit of grief, anxiety, depression, and from what I gathered, PTSD. These aren’t one-off events either, they are present throughout the whole book. Adalyn Grace does an excellent job exploring these new developments for Amora, and makes her bullish need to protect her crew much more understandable, but does make it hard to connect with her. This was how I personally felt about it, but I think others might be able to make this connection and even love her more for it.
Now, of all of the characters that I wanted to see grow and be blown away by their growth, Vataea was at the top of my list. The way that Grace handled her personality and character growth in this book was more than I could have ever asked for, and I related the most to her throughout the story, and a lot of that was thanks to what Amora was experiencing. The friendship and bond that develops between these two only grows, and expands into something infinitely more complicated by the end. Vataea does a lot of self reflection that ultimately leads to her making some big changes to her life. Some of them are fuelled by the consequences of Amora’s actions.
Of course, we can’t possibly forget Bastian and Ferrick. I ADORED these two boys even past the ending of this book, especially because of the paths their lives took in the story. I wondered how Grace would play out the romance between Amora and Bastian, considering there was a lot of speculation and worry about having the choice of romance taken away (since he has the other half of Amora’s soul), vs. what their real feelings were. It was handled remarkably well in my opinion, and I loved how this storyline ended. I can’t talk too much about Ferrick without spoilers, but this guy holds my heart after the events of this book. His relationship with Amora is also quite special, and their bond is able to change as he tries to help Amora navigate what she’s going through the best way he knows how.
The plot itself moves quickly through the islands and I was riveted by the danger that Amora faces to protect the kingdom. Even better is the storyline with the mythic item she’s so desperate to retrieve. There are a few reveals that add to the suspense and by the end, I honestly had to take a step back from this story and take a few deep breaths. It was an amazing journey, and I don’t think I could imagine it going any other way. HOWEVER, I’m still furious about certain things, but cannot wait to see what Adalyn Grace has instore for us with her next book. I definitely think you should pick this up and add it to your TBR!
i often think some authors are burdened with the addition of that third book. the second book is usually slow and lacks the magic of the first. the third book then is stuffed and sometimes too action packed. the result is a trilogy that is unequally paced and frustrating. this duology is a perfect example in pacing and world building. the first novel beautiful sets the scene while holding it's own internal plot. the second book moves quickly and builds spectacularly-- creating a seamless reading experience.
This is a tricky one. Y’all know I love adventure, that’s what I’ve based my whole blog and Instagram on. But this sequel fell flat. It had adventure but it didn’t grip me. It was honestly a bit boring. Which sucks because I really enjoyed the first book!
Amora and Bastian had a lot of tension which I loved. And I thought it was cute/ funny when they would make each other jealous. But I have no idea why he didn’t give up on her. Amora was a five letter word that starts with a capitol B. Sorry not sorry. I didn’t like her in this book. I did like everyone else though.
I just want to talk about Vataea. LOVE her. She was what made the book honestly. I would love a spin off series of her! She was sass but not the bratty kind like Amora. I want more of her story!
Ferrick. Loved him too. I would like to see him in the spin off if there ever is one. You hear me? I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM THERE. If you read the book, you know.
Bastian. Swoon. Definitely all the swoon. He deserved better. Wow I am really hard on Amora.
To be fair, she was dealing horribly with grief, stress, and loss. She just didn’t handle it well. BUT I appreciate her character growth, even if it happened REALLY quick at the end.
Well, I’ve talked about characters. How about the plot…? It was not as big a plot as the first book. The crew traveled the kingdom in search of an artifact. I liked learning more about the different islands and such, they were super interesting. But the actual plot was a bit lacking. And then it wrapped up super fast at the end.
Listen, I liked this book okay. I really liked the writing, the descriptions, the magic, Bastian. It sounds like an amazing world. One I’d want to visit for sure!
I didn't enjoy this book as much as book 1. I think it was because this book is all about fixing the mess that book 1 left.
I liked seeing different islands and their cultures. I love the crew! The romance aspect fell flat in this book. I wish that there had been more action in this book. It was more character growth and emotional healing.
Initial Thoughts
I was so excited for this sequel. I loved All the Stars and Teeth and I couldn’t wait to read more about this world.
Some Things I Liked
Magic system. I loved the way the magic worked in this world and all of the different types of magic. The first book showed us that each person could only choose one type but this book showed the journey each magic user had while discovering the possibilities of learning more magic.
Romance. I loved the way the romance between Amora and Bastian developed in this story. Amora is incredibly morally grey and even more so now that part of her soul was cursed away. I loved the struggle and journey Amora and Bastian went through to gain her soul back as well as their love for each other.
More politics. Another element I loved from the first book was the set up of the islands and the intricate political system. I loved that we got to see more of that in this book.
One Thing I Wasn’t Crazy About
Ferrick’s storyline. I thought that the resolution Ferrick got was just awful. I didn’t think it was fitting or necessary. I just felt like how it all played out was rushed and poorly conceptualized. I can admit that I understood the significance of his role, but I didn’t think it was executed well.
Series Value
I love this series. I’d absolutely keep reading if Adalyn Grace wants to write more about this world. I’d love spin-offs and sequels. There is so much potential in this world.
Furthermore, I am already ready for Adalyn Grace’s next book, Belladonna. **Wink wink MacMillan and Adalyn, I’m ready when you are!**
Final Thoughts
I enjoyed this book. Ferrick’s storyline was a let down for me, but overall, I was so excited to dive back into this world. I loved the twists and turns of the plot as well as Amora’s morally grey personality.

I LOVED this book so much! I was so intrigued about all of the islands introduced in book one and was so excited about the prospect of seeing more of them. This world building was incredible and I loved every character I met and loved our same characters even more!
Thank you to Imprint and NetGalley for the advanced copy of All the Tides of Fate in exchange for my honest review.
All the Tides of Fate by Adalyn Grace is book two in the All the Stars and Teeth duology, re-immersing readers in the seafaring adventures, magical islands, and unexpected friendships of the first book.
Amora Montara is back on the island of Visidia and has taken the throne as the queen of her kingdom. Yet Amora's ascent to the throne is not at all what she envisioned. She is fighting for answers and her people, all the while they are uncertain if she is the right person to rule. As Amora goes on a desperate mission to find a legendary artifact that could right all the wrongs that her kingdom faces, she finds that to stay in the past is to forfeit her future.
These books are just so epic. I loved being back in the world of Visidia and its five islands. Each one is so rich and unique, and I loved getting to see more of what each island's magic could do! This book picks up right where the last left off and I read furiously to see how Amora and her crew could fix things within the 300ish pages of this book 😂
The Keel Haul crew is also back in all their seafaring glory! While at times I feel like these friends are almost too good to be true, I'm here for it. This book also has awesome and unpredictable female characters, who are both conniving and fierce! If Adalyn Grace ever writes a spin-off of these books, I want it to be ALL about Vataea, or maybe Shanty, or actually BOTH.
I will say that, at times, Amora's thoughts felt incredibly repetitive and melodramatic and there are certain interactions or plot developments that felt cheesy, but overall this was such a solid sequel!
This is a perfect read for anyone craving a YA fantasy full of action, detail, and heartfelt characters you can't help but care about.
Thank you to Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and for having me on the blog tour. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Wow! That was a wild and exciting ride!
Adalyn Grace's long awaited book All the Tides of Fate, sequel to All the Stars and Teeth, is finally here! This new adventure brings us back to our old crew with all new exciting adventures and the same exquisite writing we have come to expect from Adalyn Grace. The adventures are bigger, the stakes are higher and the execution couldn't be more delicious.
Once again, Amora proved to be an amazing main character. I loved watching her grow yet again as she fought to break her curse and make life better for her kingdom. Seeing her vulnerable human side and her powerful magic side clashing and struggling during her trials made her come to life as a dimensional character that you can't help but adore.
The ending could not have been more perfect. It was not the ending I saw coming but it was absolutely amazing and better than I could have imagined. This entire duology has been wonderful, but that ending really made it one of the best fantasy stories I've ever read.
Unfortunately, the deadline passed before I could download the ebook correctly. The ranking was given so as not to affect the ratings of the book.
All the Tides of Fate is the highly anticipated sequel to All the Stars and Teeth -- and is 100% the conclusion readers have been waiting for! This second in the duology continues to build emotional depth within and between characters, while effortless braiding in the action and adventure expected from Grace, Readers will absolutely hit "all the feels" as they continue following Amora's journey -- learning what sacrifice really means.

After Amora’s powers are cursed away, her Kingdom begins to question her ability to be their queen. Amora sets out with her crew and some new faces to find a mythological artifact that can break the curse on her soul and the curse on her bloodline.
All the Stars and Teeth was a solid read for me when it came out last year. It felt a bit overhyped, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. My main complaint was that the pacing was a little slow throughout and then there was too much crammed into the last few chapters. I didn’t feel like that was as much of an issue in All the Tides of Fate. I was hooked from page one all the way through the epilogue.
I feel like the plot flowed well. The reveals and twists were able to surprise me most of the time without feeling like they came completely out of left field. The end did definitely have some sudden twists that felt a little rushed, but it was so much improved from the first book.
I still love Amora, Vataea, Ferrick, and Bastian as characters. I think that Adalyn Grace excels at writing characters and their relationships. I also loved the addition of Shanty to the crew. I feel like her storyline didn’t resolve and was left a little awkwardly open ended, but she was such a fun, spunky character.
I highly recommend picking up this book even if you aren’t sure if you would. I probably wouldn’t have bothered to read it if I hadn’t gotten the arc, but I’m glad I did.

All The Tides Of Fate picks up a few months after the events of All The Stars and The Teeth, Amora the newly crowned queen of Visidia is burdened with more than the crown, from the aristocratic representatives who are opposing to the changes she brought about from the last season to her haunting PTSD from the trauma she faced in the past along with the losing her magic leaves her restless and unnerved. I honestly enjoyed seeing the rest of the islands of Visidia with intriguing magic system of their own but nothing major happens plot wise for a good part of the book which made the first half little dragged out. As per the characters I really liked the rest of the crew- Bastian, Ferrick, Vattea including Shanty, however I found myself constantly being annoyed with Amora, as much as we understand her unfortunate plight, for me her actions seemed devoid of logic most of the time. I enjoyed the bromance between Bastian and Ferric and I truly wished they had more presence in the plot than they were offered with
The plot picks up in the last quarter of the book, the twists and turns were quite unexpected. The climax twist especially was brutal, I did not see that coming. I enjoyed the duology overall, definitely pick it up if you like a unique magic system, seafaring adventures and duologies
