Another of my ridiculously late reviews, in fact, I believe that I am so late in writing this review that the book has changed with a new cover and title!
So it's about time I got myself in gear and finally wrote a few words about his ever-so-charming book!
This is such a heartwarming story of following your heart and being your true self, there is laughter, joy and deeply compassionate love which made my heart burst. It's a sweet friends-to-lovers story Devon and Jess are adorable and I thoroughly enjoyed their journey.
I loved the story, the writing is so engaging and full of genuine love for the characters and it flowed with ease and kept me captivated until the last page.
An absolute delight!
Really enjoyed this one!
Made me laugh.
I loved the nerdiness of the characters & was invested in them from the start.
I absolutely adored (and devoured) this sweet romance. This is kind of a second chance romance although the "first time" around they were never actually a romantic couple.
For me, an indication of a really, really good second chance romance is how much it can make me wish the first time never ended, if that makes sense? I was absolutely WEEPING for Scarlett, for how much pain she was masking for so many years after Devon left.
The Christmas setting was so cozy and wonderful. Nothing really to complain about! I was able to finish this in one sitting and it got me in such a sweet mood.
Lovely warm uplifting Christmas book. Scarlet and Devon were best friends at school until he moved away and now he is coming back as a Hollywood heartthrob.... surely he won't be interested in Scarlet who has never really moved on in life. Lovely story for curling up in front of a fire and feeling Christmassy
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

Found I could not connect with this book. The heroine seemed so immature and also a little TSTL and it was thus hard to get behind her to root for her. The writing was also clunky (not helped by the paragraphs being so long, they looked like a big chunk of text on my reader) and it was a lot of words to say a few things, and everything, from the story to the character to the dialogue, getting buried inside this huge flow of words. Felt very hard for me to read through, and I did not enjoy the experience, both the story and the words themselves
This is a story of two friends who support each other through thick and thin. but then one of them leaves and moves with his family to America and the one who is left behind becomes a target for the school bullies and loses her sense of self. Eventually he returns to Springhollow for Christmas, now a successful Hollywood actor. They are reunited and all the past returns. Don't you love a happy ending especially at Christmas.
This is a super fun read. I really enjoyed this one!
Many thanks to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Wow, what a great storyline. Everyone needs Super Heroes in their life, and dreams really can come true.
Really enjoyed this wonderful storyline of Scarlett and Devon, whose imaginations as children of being Superheroes get them into many scrapes and escapades, as the best friends reunite after years apart, comes realisations and truths and romance abounds.
Fantastic!!
This book was cozy and heartwarming. It's a second-chance romance that filled me with such a wonderful, nostalgic Christmas feeling. I highly recommend this book.
This book was wonderful. It was a joy to read and I was constantly caught up in the storyline. I really enjoyed the way the journey to the past was mixed in throughout the present day narrative, as if we were in Scarletts mind, reliving the memory along with her. I would definitely recommend this book, as it’s a real mood booster. Especially because it comes along with the underlying message that it is totally ok to be exactly who you are, and you really don’t have to abide by what others expect of you; not when it comes to who you are, what you do or where your career goes.
I am all for cheesy romance novels. However, this one was very hard for me to get through. I found it to be very slow and predictable. I also did not feel a connection with the characters. I found that I had no desire to find out what happened in their lives. I can see why some people enjoyed this book, but this just wasn't for me.
What a wonderful place to grow up, so much freedom to let your imagination run wild and that is exactly what Devon and Scarlet did when playing super heroes. Know to all the villagers so a discreet eye was kept on them. Scarlet has her fair share of accidents but isn't deterred. She doesn't find it easy to make friends so when Devon announces that he is moving to New York with his parents the next day Scarlet is heart broken and vows not to carry on with her superhero passion and comic drawings. Having found a good friend and a job with her that suits them best she is amazed one day to see a film poster advertising Superman in the local bakery and guess who is the actor playing him? Yes Devon. Devon returns home for a week before Christmas and although Scarlet initially tries to avoid him it is inevitable that they meet, soon to resume their old friendship but this time as adults.
With a foreseeable future don't give up do read on to the end.
A delightful read which centres on the close bonds formed in childhood and how you can be true to yourself when other people have different expectations of what you should be like. The superhero theme from Scarlett's young friendship with Devon represents her true interests. For years she has shut down her artistic talents. She has to find out what she actually wants to do with her life beyond settling for the safe life. Through her friendship with Hope and Jess, Scarlett has found acceptance but hidden her true nerdish interests. She has gone along with her mother's views on what she should wear. It is Devon who returns to challenge her view of herself. Through flashback episodes from her childhood, you come to understand her friendships and distrust of the bullies who made her school life a misery. I enjoyed the festive themes with Christmas seemingly the one time Scarlett has been able to let her creative side show. Springhollow is a close-knit village where everyone seems to know everyone else. There is plenty of potential here for a follow up.
Thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book
My thoughts
Narrative and Plot
Before we begin, I requested an e-Arc for this book mainly because of the name Springhollow. I love Gilmore Girls and have passionately conflicting opinions about the characters. But the one thing I love about the show is the small town charm of Stars Hollow. And my gamble actually paid off. Because there is this unmistakable beauty in the small village of Springhollow with its own traditions and landmark. That turned out to be my favorite part of the story. It helps that the main character Scarlett is equally passionate about her village, Springhollow.
The plot is basically a holiday romance with friends to lovers trope at its centre. But it is also more character focused especially on Scarlett. I loved the superhero references. I mean, I almost highlighted the "Avengers Assemble" part. The whole theme made the book endearing.
Characters and Conflicts
Scarlett and Devon are the two main characters in the book. Although , the book is mainly from Scar's perspective. Personally, she is a relatable character to me. She used to be a passionate and wild kid, but growing up she tries to be "sensible" and "be an adult". In that effort to become what she is expected to be, Scarlett gives up who she was and hides her true superhero self. This makes her as real as any adult. As someone who keeps her blogging life mostly separate from her regular life, I can see where she is coming from.
At some point, Scarlett felt like too much of a chicken, particularly the way she felt she needed to be around her best friend in order to keep her life in order. Hope seems like a likeable and well accomplished character and Scarlett's need to be around her was not exactly dealt with the importance it needed to be. At least I felt that way.
The romance between the main character was slow and steady. It makes you root for them as a couple even more as it happens with romance reads. Devon was adorable. He was superhero handsome as well as a nerdy fanboy at the same time.
Another character that I enjoyed is Scar's dad. He made the most impact he could with the screen time he got.
And the entire village of Springhollow definitely takes extra brownie points.
Conclusion
Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was easy and fun to read. I love reading friends to lovers romance. This one with a beautiful village around Christmas time is right up my alley.
So who should read One Snowy Week in Springhollow? If you're that fangirl or boy or whoever you are, who swooned over Peggy and Steve Roger's that one car ride, or who got misty eyed every time Tony Stark blinked and left a message for Pepper or you actually grabbed that tissue box when your heard "I love you three thousand", why are you here, go read the book. It is a superhero holiday romance for god's sake!!!
This is a perfect Christmas frothy read. The season is great setting and the characters believable and amiable. The story is told with skill and affection and it is the equivalent of a duvet day in a book cover. I loved the characters and felt transported to a lovely community.
This wintery second chance love story was sweet and geeky and I devoured it! I couldn’t put this romcom down and loved rooting for both characters. I kept picturing Justin Hartley (Kevin from This Is Us) as Devon!
Scarlett and Devon were childhood besties obsessed with all things superhero and were known in their little village for their singular passion (AKA nerdiness!) and the mischief this duo regularly created. When Devon’s family suddenly moves to NYC, Scarlett is left feeling alone, is treated horribly by peers, and won’t forgive Devon for abandoning her. She eventually gives up on her dream of becoming a comic book artist despite her amazing talent and fast forward many years later, Devon’s unexpected return to Springhollow upends the very guarded and safe space she has managed to create for herself. Will Devon be able to mend their friendship despite the walls Scarlett has up?
.
This is one I would read again next winter because it was so much fun! Given that my family loves Marvel/DC movies, all things Star Wars, and I go to ComicCon every year with a group of friends, “geeky” is a huge draw. Add in a second chance story and I can’t help myself.
Sweet novel perfect for the winter time! Engaging story and heart warming!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for my review!
I thought this was a great novel by Lucy Knott! Knott provided a winter wonderland within the pages with her characters. I thought it was charming and the characters were funny as well! I do wish it didn't drag as long as it did, because it felt like filler at some parts. It would be easier to read if parts were omitted or truncated. Overall, great job by Lucy Knott!
Scarlett and Devon were inseparable: sharing hospital rooms, accidents, adventures and imagination they’d created an “us against the world’ combination that even their parents frequently despaired of. Scarlett wasn’t the typical ‘girly girl’ with her superhero obsession, constant drawing, skateboard and her willingness to try anything. Devon was always there as her friend, partner in crime and protector from the bullies at school. Until he wasn’t - leaving Scarlett angry, alone and depressed.
Fast forward ten years and Scarlett is working with her best friend Hope as her assistant – channeling all her creativity into the Christmas Fair, small crafts and keeping Devon and her obsession with all thing superhero in a box. A closed box. Buried under other boxes. Never to be mentioned again. Strangely enough, Hope and her boyfriend Jesse are huge nerds – but they know nothing of Scarlett’s past life. Until Devon, now starring as a superhero in a new movie returns to town, and Hope is geeking out over an interview.
Devon has always missed Scarlett and tried after he moved to stay in touch. She rebuffed all of his attempts, stuffing down the hurt and anger – and getting stuck in her teenaged self. Angry, repressed and ignoring all that she once loved, things were the same for her all these years later. Knott used the traumas and fears that Scarlett embraced to show her stuck and static – while things moved for Devon, even as he was trying to understand her rebuffs despite their obvious connection. It takes several attempts, plenty of push from both Hope and Jesse, some quiet moments and more than a bit of regret for the two to work out their issues and find themselves where they were meant to be. A lovely and hopeful story of overcoming traumas and hurts, moving forward and growing up and into the life you want and deserve.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
