The title of this book drew me in with the promise of an exciting story to come. The cover also went along that possibility. I was even more excited when I saw that the chapters alternated between the characters. I did not read the first two books in this series.
In the beginning, there were a lot of people tossed in. One of the characters, Maxine, buys a condo, and then breaks up with her boyfriend the minute he finishes helping her move her belongings up 87 steps to her new home. Twenty years later, she’s having an affair with her friend’s husband. Gavin Dean, the college CFO makes unwanted moves on a college student named Barret, when the young man only wants to move to a single room because he doesn’t like his roommates. One couple, Hester and Morgan apparently had an agreement that they would never discuss each others past, after, I don’t know how many years together, Morgan decides to change that, so he drops a small hint while driving about the school he went to years ago in that area, and then keeps trying to change the rules they had made by prodding Hester to find out more and share.
While giving me background information, I can’t say I liked the book by the 25% mark, and even considered making it a do not finish. But it does improve after that point. So if you are feeling rather let down by the first 25% of the book, hang in. It becomes more suspenseful as the book progresses.
Sex, adultery, transgender character.
This is the third novel in the Hester Thursday series, although it's not necessary to have read the others. Hester is a librarian at Harvard, and is skilled at looking for information. She is asked to check a list of students at a family-owned college. The story develops as Hester tries to untangle secrets in the family and at the college, while the suspense rises. Highly recommended.
Keeps the action pulsing with enough intrigue to make it hard to turn the virtual pages fast enough. Thoroughly fleshed-out characters you tend to either like or dislike with enthusiasm. A great bedtime read that'll keep you engaged till the very end. Highly recommended!
*This book was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest review. My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to participate in this program.*
Edwin Hill has created another solid addition to the badass librarian Hester Thursby series. Hester and her detective friend Angela unwittingly become involved in the lives of a family who own and run a college near Boston. When a student is murdered, Hester puts her life in peril in her quest to uncover the shocking truth.
I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series and this was no exception. I feel like Hill and this series have kind of been under the radar. Hill’s writing is similar to that of Julia Keller, Randall Silvis and Allen Eskens and will appeal to a wide range of readers. In particular, I am drawn to Hester’s well-drawn character. Her behavior and personality are quite different from your stereotypical librarian and I love how she take can out drink whiskey with anyone and is not afraid to confront conflict. Hopefully the word will get out about this excellent series.
This was such a great read! I haven't read the others one yet but I want to now!! It can be read as a stand alone but might be better to get more fo the backstories.
This is the third book in the series and it is set in Boston and Hester is following clues to solve the mysteries.
Overall, this was very enjoyable and I liked how well the plot weaved into the stories of the characters.
Thank you Netgalley for this great read.
I love books that have mystery, suspense, and scandal.
This book was a real page Turner and was hard to put down.
I loved the story line and each individual character.
It really left me wanting to read more from this author. I am looking forward to reading more of his books.
I've recommended Watch Her to my book groups and friends.
A twisty mystery that keeps you guessing. Hester Thursby is good at finding people but this time, she' finds more than she bargained for. When Maxine Pawlikowski hires her to look for three students from Prescott University whose tuition been paid but haven't shown up, she becomes involved with the Matson family.who owns the school. As Hester investigates, she discovers each of the students had something to hide. Everything revolves around the family, including the truth behind a' tragedy the Matsons are wiling to protect to their dying days.
A great whodunit novel that hits all the marks for a mystery novel. Edwin Hill offers readers fantastic, down to earth characters that are relatable and have bit of humor floating around. Hill is able to weave a great mystery with plenty of twists and turns. While this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC of #WatchHer which was read and reviewed voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Edwin Hill is a terrific author. Each of his books has been unique and different, but stayed true to a set of fascinating characters. I love watching how Hester has grown, and the fierce love she has for Kate is touching. Her circle of friends is growing, and that’s good because Hester needed a friend. If you haven’t read any of Hill’s work, do yourself a favor and pick up a book. You won’t be able to put it down until you finish it.
This is the third book in the Hester Thursby Mystery series, and I can honestly say each one is better than the last, which is a pretty grand feat considering the preceding titles have also been amazing!
Hester and Angela are a brilliant dynamic duo, whom I hope we'll see more their sleuthing powers working together. I know, I know, Hester isn't supposed to be doing the police work, we should leave it to Angela, but darn it, she's quite good at it!
I enjoyed Morgan's and Hester's game of avoiding the tough questions by asking the simple questions about their past lives and how those answers might help them to move forward with their relationship... I also love how Hester seems to be growing and rather than relying on her own independence, she seeks Morgan's input as she digs into what seems to be a straightforward assignment--which of course is anything but.
As Hester seeks to find the answers she was hired to find, she stumbles across a secret that was buried many years ago, and all the key players never intended for the truth to be revealed.
Edwin Hill's has woven yet another 5-star read featuring Hester Thursby, she may be slight in build, but she is a force to be reckoned with.
Exactly what I needed, a little (LOL) dose of Hester Thursby, the diminutive crime solver who has become one of my favorites. This is the third book in a delightful series set in Boston with Hester the librarian following clues, and danger to solve mysteries.
This book was really enjoyable, with recurring characters that the author gracefully weaves into the plot. This book concerns fraud in a for profit college and the sleaze who is involved in many levels of corruption. Within the book, there are several subplots, but all connected.
This is another great book in this series (hope many more will follow), really enjoyed it. Keep them coming, Mr Hill.
Thank you Netgalley for this delightful read. It really took my mind off our current, very difficult times.
This was my first time reading this author and I wasn't disappointed. This was an edge of your seat suspense-thriller. The ending caught me by surprise.
A cracker of a mystery! A really enjoyable, entertaining story which is well supported by fascinating characters and excellent dialogue. The author paints a vivid picture of the setting and the pace is strong throughout.
Hester Thursby rocks. I love this new series written by Edwin Hill. Eccentric characters, family and chosen family from a growing group of friends. I hope for more and more and more Hester.
