This book is told in multiple POVs. It is a very twisty read.
It has short chapters and is well written. It is a compelling read.
The ending was a bit rushed though

A new baby is such a joy, but it's hard work too. Some woman take to motherhood like a fish to water, but for some new moms, it's a lot harder.

Anyway, whether it all goes well or not, each couple should take time off from parenthood from time to time and a night away seems like a good idea to rekindle the connection between Amber and her husband.

Then tragedy strikes and the families world is turned upside down. Not only do they have to deal with that tragedy, but it seems like a few skeletons fall out of the closet as well. This turns some relationships sour and some that were already sour even more sour.

Will this family be divided for ever or is there still any hope left?

Some people want to settle their bills right away. Others can easily lie in waiting for the perfect moment to pounce.

It seems like some families have a well filled washing line with dirty laundry to share.

A very enjoyable story with a few surprising revelations. 5 stars

Thank you

Another cracking read from the author. Gripping and tense and a fascinating cast of characters. Can't wait for the next read!

This was ok, but I felt that the plot and the characters needed a bit more development. I wasn’t surprised by all of the twists apart from one, overall it wasn’t bad but I expected a bit more

Love the premise of this book....the first few chapters are very intriguing.

At first Amber's post natal depression is handled very thoughtfully. However I absolutely hated Amber and everything about her. I wanted to feel sorry for her because of her post natal depression (as I feel for any person who suffers) but this selfish heinous woman was not an advocate for anyone's suffering but just an awful human being.

Its interesting they trusted Ruby until everything goes wrong. They frequently call her scatty and unreliable but then leave their child with her for a night away. Would anyone leave their child with someone they don't trust? And if so, why?

The way the family turned on Ruby was very sad and makes you think about favours and babysitting. It's on Ruby's watch that Mabel goes missing...but babysitting only works if everything goes right. The way the Walkers turned on Ruby is definitely food for thought about the act of doing favours for people who cannot be trusted.

Ruby was in fact the only likeable and sympathetic character. My heart truly went out to her.

There were a few twists but only one truly shocked me...which I enjoyed.

This was an enjoyable and heart wrenching read but as it was very much a character book, the characters needed to be developed much more. As previously mentioned, I absolutely hated Amber but also, George and Lewis's characters needed to be developed more, their personalities needed to be really evaluated and had they been...the overall impact of actions by all throughout the story would have had much bigger repercussions to the reader. As they were very much background characters...their stories were very much lost.

I think it would have worked much better being first person by either Ruby or Amber throughout rather than jumping between first person of the unnamed kidnapper and the family.

The writing was very interesting but having read similar books, think it definitely needed some deeper character analysis and general tightening up.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Amber is suffering from post natal depression so when her sisters babysitting overnight is successful she gets her to babysit for a weekend whilst she goes on a yoga retreat when her husband is away for work.

The unimaginable happens and little Mabel is kidnapped from her home. Is Ruby really to blame?

I liked the ambiguity of the kidnappers gender throughout this novel and it kept their identity secret for longer and made more people suspects.

The relationship between the two sisters was fraught but did help the story development as there was a lot of blame there.

Quite fast paced, I enjoyed learning the characters secrets when they were finally uncovered.

*Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.* Amber and George are new parents to baby Mabel and are finding the strain of new parenthood difficult. Ruby offers to mind baby Mabel for a night so that they can have a mini break to rekindle their romance. All goes well, so Amber asks her sister Ruby to mind Mabel again on another weekend. And this is when the nightmare begins. Ruby wakes to find her niece missing from her cot and the hunt begins for baby Mabel. I really enjoyed the way way Ryder fleshed out the different characters in the book and all of the twists and turns along the way. No spoilers, but I was not 100% sold on the ending, but shall say no more about that. Overall, an enjoyable and intriguing read.

An interesting psychological thriller story with some decent twists. None of the characters really likeable to me and the ending, a little predictable, wasn't great in my opinion. Overall a quick and easy read. Definitely willing to try more from this author. Thanks!

Having read and loved a fair few of this authors books, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I would want to read her latest book The Night Away.

The story plot and characters were very well written, and I really enjoyed getting to know each and every one of the characters especially the two sisters. There were times throughout the story when I liked one sister more than the other sister, but then again this did keep changing throughout.

This was a truly outstanding story, very cleverly done, I was gripped from start to finish and I literally couldn’t turn the pages fast enough for wanting to see what was going to happen next. There were a couple of twists and turns within the story that I think I spent majority of the book sitting on the edge of my seat in anticipation.

So if you love psychological thrillers, then this book is definitely for you. I truly can’t recommend it enough.

Jess Ryder is one of my favorite authors and this book didn't disappoint. I was sucked in immediately and absolutely loved the wild, twisted ride. 5 HUGE stars.

The Night Away started off very strongly with a chapter so creepy, it pulls you right in. The chapters build a sense of foreboding until the kidnapping. Unfortunately for me, the part after this main event that happens somewhat early in the book, held a few surprises & I felt a bit letdown at the end. With psychological thrillers I've come to expect a last twist or even series of twists so mindblowing that takes you by surprise yet is plausible. The ending to this book felt lukewarm in comparison. I did love the characters in this book. They were all fleshed out very well & I liked how "genuine" they felt. The plot seemed intriguing at the start but soon spiralled down for me with no breathtaking twist in sight. I liked how the devious plan was executed with devious genius. However, the rest felt very simple. I held hope till the very last page & maybe there was a "twist" it just didn't take me surprise at the end.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & Jess Ryder for this arc!

Amber and George are parents to a seven month old baby girl Mabel. Amber is struggling to cope and seems to be suffering from post natal depression which is affecting their marriage. George decides to book them a night away which Amber isn’t keen of as she doesn’t want to leave Mabel and Ruby, Amber’s sister offers to stay and babysit. The following weekend George has to attend a conference so Amber asks Ruby to babysit again as she doesn’t want to be at home on her own with Mabel. She books a weekend away at a yoga retreat, little realising the nightmare that would follow. Amber receives a call from Ruby saying that Mabel has been abducted whilst she was asleep but no one can work out how she was taken. Who had been in the flat? We realise at the beginning of the book that a mysterious stalker is watching Amber and Mabel. Did that person take Mabel and for what reason? The storyline twists and turns and it soon becomes apparent that everyone has secrets they are hiding. This is a gripping, dark psychological thriller that will keep you turning the pages until the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
