K.L Slater remains my favourite author at the moment and I read a lot of books. I was eagerly anticipating this book and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
I was hooked from page 1 and couldn’t put it down once I started.
The story is engaging and there are plenty of twists throughout. The ending is great and for once, I didn’t guess it.
I’d strongly recommend this book.

Fantastic book and a proper page-turner, I couldn't stop reading it! Kept me guessing until the end. Have read the author's previous books and this one did not disappoint.

Very well written thriller, but the main character was a real wuss; I kept wanting to tell her to pull herself together. The fact I cared enough for that feeling shows how well the author gets under the skin of the reader. I'm sure it will be a big hit, but I found it a touch predictable and similar to many other books.

Alexa spends her day watching 9ver her baby, Florence. Her husband works out of town and is gone sometimes 2 or 3 weeks. She is so thankful her sister Carrie lives with them. She is a great help with baby Florence as well as good company.
They Carrie is arrested for two murders at the hospital where she works as a nurse.
The murder of a six month old baby and an 82 year old man.
Perry, Alex as husband demands that she kick Carrie out of the house. He says she can't be trusted with their child.
Things aren't always as they seem in this psychological thriller that has you on the edge of your seat, wondering what happens next!

Dr Nathan Mosley at Kings Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire believes there is an angel of death in A and E after two suspicious deaths. He reports it and a police investigation is under way led by DI Adam Partridge. Suspicion falls on Carrie Parsons the A and E manager who after a messy divorce lives with her sister Alexa, her husband Perry and baby Florence. The story is told from multiple perspectives.

This is an enjoyable easy read with the different points of view working well and adding plenty of intrigue. The dynamics in Alexa’s household is really interesting as it goes in several directions with the occupants feelings hardening and with growing suspicion between them. It raises plenty of questions about how well you really know about the people closest to you with much hidden secrecy beneath the surface. I especially like Alexa’s perspective as it’s like she is talking to us and weighing her thoughts up in her head with the reader as a sounding board. I like how she changes throughout the storyline and grows in confidence in every way. The pace is a bit slow initially but it picks up as the storyline builds and there are plenty of good twists. The ending is a bit unexpected and doesn’t entirely chime with earlier events but it is a good twist! I can’t say I entirely understand the title???

Overall, another entertaining read from K L Slater.

With thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc for an honest review.

Move out of the way, everybody because I am reading a new KL Slater book! This was a sentence that was on my tongue the last few days, but strangely enough I never had to say it. Maybe the way I looked at people when they wanted to disturb me said it all…?! 😉
What did I like so much about the book? Maybe I should rather say what I did not like, but that would make this a very short review. 😊 So I decide to give you the longer version.
The characters were great. Some came out a stronger person, some learned from their mistakes and some got exactly what they deserved.
Did I pick the right culprit this time? Of course not. LOL, but that only shows how well hidden the outcome was.
So, in a nutshell: a wonderful book with lots of manipulations, hidden secrets and me feeling a little bit sorry for the killer even though what they did was very, very wrong. It proves, once again, what a trauma can do to you.
I suppose you can already guess how many stars I am going to give? If your guess was 5, you were spot on. 😊

Thank you, KL Slater and Bookouture

My thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for a copy of “The Girl She Wanted “ for an honest review.

I always look forward to a new book by K L Slater , I love her style of writing and her characterisation.
Her books grip you from the start and are hard to put down. The only reason I’m not giving this the full 5 stars is that I think this is a weaker book than her previous ones, and I found some of the plot a little hard to believe , but this is just me nit picking !
I can’t wait for the next book.

Another cracker from KL Slater. This author never disappoints with her twisty psychological thrillers. Once again I was awake late to finish this book - no regrets!

This is the story of 2 sisters - Alexa and Carrie. The 2 are incredibly close and rely on each other for support. Carrie is a ward manager in a very busy A & E department. She lives for her job and her family. But then she is suspended from work after an accusation of wrong doing which resulted in the deaths of 2 patients. She is adamant that she is innocent only her sister Alexa seems to believe her. She currently living with she sister and her husband Perry and one year old niece Florence after her own marriage ended badly. But as more information starts to come to light can her sisters faith in her remain? Can Carrie prove her innocence?

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for my advanced copy of this book to read.

I love this author!! Every book I’ve read of hers have been thrilling, chilling and exciting right from start to finish. This book catches you at the very beginning with the story of two sisters, Alexa and Carrie. Carrie is a ward manager in a busy A & E department, but when a junior doctor whistle-blows, Carrie finds herself accused of a terrible crime. As the story unfolds, lies and secrets come tumbling out which you just don’t expect!

Out of the three main characters, Alexa, Carrie and Alexa’s husband, Perry, I didn’t really find any of them particularly likeable at the beginning. Alexa seemed weak, troubled and there was something hidden in her past which made her so reliant on her sister. Carrie is obviously accused of a terrible crime, and this makes her instantly disliked!! She straight away comes across as guilty, shown by her moods and behaviours and all the evidence piling up against her. She was lucky to have the support of her sister, who despite knowing what she was accused of was there for her at every turn, allowing her to stay and helping with legal advice. I didn’t really like Alexa’s husband, he seemed quite controlling but there were fleeting moments where I did feel quite sorry for him – he’d had Carrie staying in his home for months, his job working on the oil rigs in Aberdeen was stressful and meant he was away for weeks at a time and the animosity he suffered from his colleagues was quite saddening.

Obviously as the story continues, my opinions on the characters changed page to page! Some redeemed themselves, some didn’t, but their individual storylines began to pose more questions than answers. I loved how you aren’t given any clue as to what is actually going on until well into the book!! There is a great range of supporting characters who added more intrigue into the storyline, and you are honestly left at one point not really knowing who you can trust!! The pace of the book began quite fast and didn’t really slow down at all! I loved the twists and turns and the part of the storyline which left me genuinely fearful as to what might happen!! It certainly had me questioning throughout the book what would I do if I was in the same situation as Alexa! I would like to think that I would support that person not matter because they were my brother, sister, best friend and I would like to think I knew them better than they knew themselves, but until you are in that situation, I guess you will never truly know how you would react!

I began to pick up on little bits of where the story was heading before the final twists were revealed, but this in no way spoilt the enjoyment of the story!! I definitely didn’t get it completely right either with some parts being impossible to guess!!! The last quarter of the book was a fabulous twisty turn journey, which had me “oohing and aahing” throughout when every piece of the puzzle was revealed! I loved the author’s way of writing and I was so hooked into the storyline I found it difficult to put the book down!! It was full of emotion, mistrust, lies and secrecy! The tension and suspense positively sizzled its way throughout the whole book! Great read by a fabulous author! Recommended!!

The Gril She Wanted has several major twists in the plot. Readers will think one person is at fault for a couple of deaths, but then the circle widens to cast doubt on a couple more suspects. Eventually the chapters peel back the unvarnished truth. It was a decent read with several surprises.

Started in the afternoon, finished in the early hours - totally hooked and I just couldn't wait to find out "whodunit"

Carrie Parsons is the A&E Ward manager at the busy King's Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire.
When a junior doctors raises concerns about two suspicious deaths in the department, Carrie becomes the main suspect and is accused and suspended while enquiries begin.

After a broken marriage, Carrie now lives with her sister Alexa and brother in law Perry. Alexa believes her sister is totally innocent of any wrong doing but not Perry who wants her out of their house.

What a fabulous read- a super mix of characters , great storyline, plenty of twists and red herrings and did I see that ending coming- did I heck- no where near !!!

Another brilliant novel from Kim Slater - Loved it and comes highly recommended.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC for my honest review.

My Review:

I love, love, love this author so much. Every time I see she has a new book coming out I just have to read it. Her books are my weakness and I will drop everything I have planned so I can finish it in just one sitting. If you have read anything by this author you know what I’m saying is true.

This book is about a sisters bond that can not be broken. One sister is accused of a horrendous act. The other sister trying to clear her name at all costs. But is their love enough? Can their bond be broken? Did her sister really do it? Can she trust her sister? These are some of the questions that are answered by the end of the book.

I want to start off by saying you can never go wrong when you pick up a K.L. Slater book. I’ve read many of her books and none of them disappoint. They are like fine wine, they get better and better over time. The characters really did this book justice. At first I hated the main character Alexa. I thought she was passive and very unsure about herself. She did grow on me as the book progressed. By the end of the book I ended up loving her. She turned into a fearless courageous woman who wouldn’t take any slack from no one. Definitely someone I could look up to. The plot was excellent too!!!!! It was a medical murder mystery with a bunch of surprises for the reader. Normally I’m not that into these types of books but the way the author threw all those twists and turns at you made me a fan. Wow, wow, wow on that ending. I would’ve never guessed what really was going on. It definitely was a pleasant surprise just like opening presents on Christmas morning.

Between the plot, characters and all the twists in this book it made it an easy and fast read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow, Wow, Wow!

This was a story that grabbed me by the throat from the get go and didn't let go.

Alexa is a character whose personality and strength grows throughout the story. Ever since an incident, which isn't revealed to us until further into the story, Alexa has been quite withdrawn and has become dependent on her older sister who is living with her since the break up of her marriage. Alexa believes her sister is innocent of any wrong doing, which causes friction between her and her husband.

The author had me constantly questioning whether to believe, like Alexa, that her sister is innocent of any wrong doing. The more I got to know of Carrie, the less uncertain I was. There is definitely more than meets the eye going on and the author does a stellar job of hoodwinking her reader, so much so that when certain revelations come out, you could have knocked me over with a feather!

I seriously couldn't get enough of this book. No one could have prised my Kindle out of my hands until I knew the truth. And boy oh boy, those twists! K.L. Slater knows how to mess with her readers head and there are some proper jaw dropping moments where I had to go back and re read as I had not seen certain things coming.

The Girl She Wanted is an enthralling, edge of your seat read with some twists that will knock your socks off. K.L. Slater has hit another home run with her latest psychological thriller. Brilliant!

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and
K. L. Slater for allowing me to read this Arc.
What a roller coaster of a read! But then I wouldn't expect anything less from K. L. Slater!! I was gripped and kept on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I certainly didn't expect the twists at the end. I would highly recommend it.

I've read all of K L Slater's thrillers and have always enjoyed them. Every one so far I have rated 3 or 4 stars but they've never quite been exceptional... until this one! Definitely my favourite of hers so far.

The book had me emotional from the first chapter! At that point I didn't know who was responsible but I knew I hated them and wanted to see justice served. I loved how we had multiple viewpoints so we could see the story from the perspectives of all the main players, including the detective and social services.

I can't really think of any negatives apart from that one of the viewpoints was a bit misleading, but I suppose it kind of had to be.

I would definitely recommend this book.

A sharp and ‘ you think you know but you dont’ psychological thriller
A busy A and E Dept and a junior Dr is suspicious of 2 separate unexpected and unexplained deaths, they shouldn’t have happened...so why have they?, he ‘whistleblows’ which of course causes a local and National outcry and the investigation starts
Meet Alexa and Carrie, sisters, one with a burden she carries and one who is Ward Manager at the A and E involved, when Carrie is under suspicion for the deaths Alexa has some troubling events and evidence to consider and confront
The book then takes us through the investigation and the various players reactions to it and how accusations and gossip and misconceptions can affect people caught up in a terrible situation
A fantatsic read, very sensitively done ( where needed, to say more would be to give some of the story away ) and full, really full of twists and turns and red herrings for the reader
The characters were great, especially the onlbnoxious Carrie Parsons, not sure why but the name totally suited her!
The book will fascinate, thrill and it really did give me a ‘AHAAAAA’ out loud moment when the truth was known
I loved the part in the acknowledgements where the author says we readers are getting smarter and each time it’s more difficult to write a twisty thriller, well as with her previous 11 books she has managed it
A perfect psychological thriller

10/10
5 Stars

Every book by this author just gets better and better! Believable plots with well rounded and characters with flaws you can relate to. This was another brilliant read that took me less than 24 hours to read.

Wow another fantastic book from this author as usual. So well written, brilliantly addictive and it had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page until the end.

All the characters were good and had their own story to tell with a superb ending.

I have nothing negative to say about this book and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this brilliant book.

Wow what a great read. I have to be honest I flipped between believe it all to be true and thinking the woman was being set up all the way through this book, I just had no idea who or what to believe so I guess that proves how well this book is written. I love this author anyway but in the latest novel we meet Alexa who is struggling with her daughter Florence and is grateful for the help and support of her sister Carrie who is currently livening with her and her husband. When Carrie is suspended from work and arrested under suspicion of a terrible crime Alexa doesn’t know who to believe and then when people start questioning the safety of her own daughter with her sister Alexa struggles to find out the truth about what’s going on and if her sister really is capable of such a horrible crime.

Carrie is a nurse accused of a crime. Carrie is close with her sister Alexa and lives with her and her family. However, Alexa’s husband doesn’t like it at all. After her niece, Florence, is injured in her care, how will she convince her family that she is not the bad guy? This thriller is full of twists and turns and suspense. It is a great psychological thriller that gives the reader a reason to keep turning the pages. I would highly recommend this book to any fans of thrillers!
